Haven House

If The Fates Allow

Rate this book
Welcome to Haven House - 1887

Life is extraordinarily dull for Wilhelmina Fairweather. With her days spent reading in the conservatory, she secretly longs for an adventure.

Unfortunately, adventures do not come easily for someone like Willa. Afflicted with bouts of asthma since childhood, an exciting life far from home is a hope she dares not entertain. For as every Fairweather knows, hope has no place at Haven House.

That is until the holiday season heralds the arrival of a new doctor to the area.

Dashingly handsome and with a quick wit to rival her own, Dr. Noah Anderson refuses to give in to his patient's stubborn nature. Prepared for a battle of wills, he won't take no for an answer, and as Willa allows him past her defenses, she and Noah come to realize that the lies and secrets long haunting the halls of Haven House are much more sinister than they could ever imagine.

No one is safe at Haven House.
Not even a Fairweather.

If The Fates Allow is a historical holiday romance novella set under the Haven House series, but can be read as a standalone.

ARC-read review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars!!

Book: If The Fates Allow by Chloe I. Miller

I was so excited to be headed back to Haven House! And it did not disappoint. This book was absolutely amazing!!

“𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘴𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘐’𝘮 𝘨𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘢𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘮𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘰𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶,” 𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥. “𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨. 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶’𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘨𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘢𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘨𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘰.”

This novella took me back in time and told me all about the Fairweathers legacy. I loved reading about these characters, and that includes the spirits that haunt the grounds!! Nothing ever comes easy at Haven House, trust nothing and question everything!

“𝘐’𝘷𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮... 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘮𝘺 𝘣𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘴, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘐’𝘮 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘐’𝘭𝘭 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘪𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘮𝘺𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧.”

I was so immersed in this book and love how this story is written. I instantly connected with these characters! Wilhelmina and Noah are just wonderful, I was totally invested in their story!
And as always, Chloe I. Miller does not disappoint!! These dark twists and turns kept me at the edge of my seat, it was perfect!

“𝘔𝘺 𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺. 𝘔𝘺 𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘭. 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘺’𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘯’𝘵 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘪𝘵. 𝘐 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴, 𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘢.”

I want to thank the author for sending me an eARC-copy to read and review. Know that I loved your book 🖤

What a great historical look into the lives of the Fairweathers generations ago! I loved Willa’s character so much because she was innocent but bright, headstrong, and courageous. I loved to hate her father and I loved to love Noah! I can’t wait to read more of the books in this story and felt the author did a wonderful job setting up the history of the family. Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and author for this advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

This was the perfect book to get me out of my reading slump! Thrilling, paranormal, romantic, spicy, & lots of family drama. This book checks all my boxes! I really enjoyed learning more about the origin of the Fairweather family, and becoming a part of the lore 😉
This novella is the perfect spooky read for the holiday season! It made me extra excited for the last Haven House book, although it will be painful to be finished with this series.

This was my second beta/ARC read for Chloe and a new type of read for me. I don’t typically read many historical books(aside from Bridgerton) but this one had me drawn in, especially since it was about my favorite family, The Fairweathers! This can be read as a standalone or apart of the Haven House Series (I strongly recommend reading the series first so you can cannot dots, bc there are PLENTY!) Mystery, romance, suspense, spooky, gothic holiday vibes - this novella has it all! I loved to get this glimpse into Haven House’s history and let me tell you, history repeats itself. Chloe’s a genius at setting the stage for readers and developing her characters…even the ones you love to hate. So much foreshadowing AND she weaves it in so effortlessly! I don’t know how her mind holds all these family tree lines, but it’s magnificent!

Oh, Chloe.
This beautifully gothic novella has my heart at the moment, and I WILL read it again for Christmas.
Learning the beginning of the Haven House curse after having fallen in love with this series was absolutely divine. Those twists? You have done it again.

Cursed land.
Gothic house.
Family secrets.
Deadly trees.
Buried bodies.
Mysterious lullabies in the dead of night.
A rich man maintaining his wealth at the expense of his family.
Unlikely romance.
A family at their wits end.

Get ready for holidays with the Fairweathers, 1887 edition,

Not gonna lie, I had a few moments of panic where I was saying “Chloe I. Miller, I swear to all things that if you kill……..” And I absolutely fell apart, a few times. She has a way of doing this to me, yet I keep coming back for more.

Don’t skip this one! And if you haven’t read the Haven House series yet, GO GET IT NOW. My all time favorite series.

Thank you so much, Chloe, for this ARC. My review is 100% voluntary and honest.

***ARC Reader***

With a heart brimming with gratitude, I find myself reflecting on the extraordinary opportunity to immerse myself in an advanced copy of "If the Fates Allow," a captivating novella by the immensely talented Chloe I. Miller.

As a newcomer to the Haven House series, I initially felt a flicker of uncertainty, but that fleeting doubt soon ignited into an intense fascination. Each turn of the page unfolds a profound exploration of familial bonds, rich storytelling, and vividly crafted characters. The delicate threads of romance entwined within the story adds to the beautiful messiness of human connections.

Chloe’s exquisite talent shines with her chosen words, and I can't help but feel this is just the beginning her writing odyssey.

For those who savor stories that perfectly blend nostalgia with a hint of suspense, "If the Fates Allow" emerges as the gem that offers a thoughtful and insightful exploration of the human experience, leading us to a conclusion that lingers in the heart and mind long after the final page is turned and one you won't expect.

I wholeheartedly urge readers to take on the journey through the Haven House series and to embrace Chloe's artistry and heartfelt storytelling. She is beyond capable of taking you on the entire journey of emotions, and we as her readers are graced by taking the trip with her. Thank you, Chloe.

The perfect addition to the Haven House series. Loved every second of this! The Fairweathers prove once again they can’t all be trusted. Dr. Noah Anderson is my new favorite of the Haven House guests. After learning the back story, it’s time for another series reread to check for clues for book 4.

I absolutely adored this book.
Its giving??? Bridgerton but darker, murder mystery vibes and I couldn’t predict a single thing! I was in awe from beginning to end and I had to pause reading it because I did not want it to end. I couldn’t put it down at first until I realized how much I had left I put it down. (Audhd so I took alot of breaks before waiting a whole day to pick it up again.)

Our FMC Willa is relatable, a bit naive but I loved that about her, going through her story with her was exciting and hot for the same reason.
Our MMC Noah is a dream. I enjoyed the character immensely and the way he lifted Willa up rather than cage her? Absolutely delightful. Noah is a very well written character and complimented Willa greatly.

I have no complaints about this book. I enjoyed it from beginning to end. The setting, the angst, the spice, the twist? All of it was well done.

This was another arc read and I absolutely love doing arc reads.

Honestly I didn’t think I was going to like this one as much as I did. I definitely jumped out of my comfort zone and I never thought I was going to like historical fictions, but this one wasn’t bad. The last 5-7 chapters definitely changed my view on this book and all the plot twists and turns I didn’t see coming, but I definitely enjoyed them.

I think in the future I definitely want to read more in the series and even other books by this author.

The perfect palate cleanser!

This book was exactly what I needed after coming off of high fantasy. This little historical romance had me cackling while I anxiously awaited the twist

And I was not disappointed. This little novella is jammed packed with all the feelings. I do not know how Chloe was able to pack all these feelings into one little book BUT SHE DID

This is a prequel to the Haven House series, but can be read as a standalone. As someone who has not read any of the series, (but will be remedying that very soon), I never felt as if I was missing something or details were lacking.

The plot building that goes into The Haven House series and then this Novella is utterly astounding. It’s truly a work of art. I am so shook to my core over Willa and the generations that are to come. I cannot say much more than you have GOT to get into The Haven House trauma circle. I am not okay! This is by far the best series I have read since ACTOAR by SJM. Enough said.

If I could give it more then 5 stars i would. I absolutely loved this book. Now I am a huge fan of Chloes anyway and adore the other books in the Haven House series but this one was something i didnt know i needed. Being able to be taken back to a different time to experience the house and the people in it before the current residence. And to see where something started (the cats, lol) and how some came to be. It was such a well told story. Willa and Noah are so perfect together.
10 out of 10 highly recommend this and the other books by Chloe.

This is my first ever ARC & book from Chloe I. Miller. I went in not knowing anything about the book and I still enjoyed it and the storyline was easy to follow seeing that I haven’t read any of the Haven House Books. This was a very interesting read for me seeing that it took place in 1887 which definitely gave Bridgerton vibes without the smiles, colorfulness and happy parties. This book was quite interesting which I thought was just a regular love story but to my surprise it took a dark turn where the secrets of the Fairweather’s start to unravel and it wasn’t just one. This book seemed a little slow to me in the beginning because it gave romance vibes and I’m a heavy fantasy reader but in the change of events I was thoroughly pleased and would recommend this book as it’s a quick and quite intriguing read and can possibly get you out of a reading slump.

*** SPOILERS ***

My first read into the world of Haven House and you bet they are now all on my TBR!

❤️‍🔥 So thankful that I was given this Novella as an ARC to review!

18th century period drama, instead of taking place in England, like many of today's popular writings, we get a glimpse of the era here in America. The Florida panhandle is where Haven House resides. Courting, parties, and more! Arranged marriage, estates indeed of inheritance, behind closed door drama, and secrets galore.

"Because, what women wouldn't want a life or no marital duties but of napping and reading books." I wouldn't go as far as no marital duties because I'm blessed to have an incredible husband. Who at the time has drawn me a bath and is preparing my favorite margaritas so I can sit in the tub and read!

The book is sprikled with interesting descriptions and analogies.

The heat between Wilma and Noah is tantalizing and leaves you wanting more in the early chapters! The way Noah teases Will has me constantly grinning.

Something scandalous, something dark looms in the memories at Haven House, on the grounds. "There are things more dangerous than animals, men."

The love story starts slow and then escalates incredibly quickly! The heat, the romance, the spice WHEW!

While the first 12 chapters lay the general foundation of the story and are filled with character development Chapters 12-20 will leave you gripping your seat and reading at top speed to eat up every juicy detail of the story.

There are so many incredible twists and turns that will leave your jaw agape.

The only reason I leave 4 stars is because, as much as I loved the twists and shocks in the last chapters, it all felt so rushed. This book easily could have been twice as long to allow for more build up to the love story and do much more. But alas, it is a Novella, so I should have known better!

I'm a huge fan of the Haven House series, and as I impatiently wait for the fourth book, I decided to sign up for an ARC of the novella. I'm a historical romance addict, and knowing we were going back in time to visit the Fairweathers made me unbelievably excited.

I was not prepared. This novella is a twistedly gothic holiday treat that will remind you of a darker version of the Bridgerton books. It's a short, easy read with romance, scandal, ghosts, and the dysfunctional Fairweathers at their finest. I enjoyed it so much I

I'm a long time reader of the series, and I know how twisted these Haven House books can get. Hints and clues are always laid out just the right way, but sometimes you're still left standing there with your mouth hanging open when the big reveal comes. This novella is no different. I guessed a little about the ending and was right about one character, but that last part left me gasping. I don't think I can walk through the forest right now without expecting to see something poking up at me.

I'll be rereading this closer to the holidays and can't wait to add it to my collection.

Trigger warnings: Manipulation, abuse, strong sexual content, profanity and murder. Willa has been sick a majority of her life. She has asthma but in 1887 not a lot could be done. Noah Anderson, Doctor Anderson, came into Willa’s life with the intentions of healing her. This is a beautiful love story, love at first sight, and for the first time in her life, she felt safe. Haven House, was anything but a haven. Willa and her siblings felt unloved, unwanted and were abused, by their parents. As young children they made a promise with each other, to get out from the grip of their parents as soon as possible. It’s a story full of deceit, hatred, greed, revenge, and murder, but best of all love, learning and strength. Just when you think you have it figured out, the author, Chloe Miller, takes you down the road less traveled. Full of twists and turns you don’t see coming. This book had all the feels, hatred, disbelief, understanding, and happiness. It’s a quick, thrilling read, that leaves you wanting more. I highly recommend, but pay attention to the triggers.

I was hooked from the very first page of If the Fates Allow and stayed completely engaged until the very last sentence. While the story carries a dark undertone, the love between Noah and Willa shines so brightly that I never wanted their journey to end. Chloe I. Miller's writing is truly captivating, and she can craft some of the most delectable spicy scenes I've ever read!

As an avid romance reader, I can confidently say the chemistry between Willa and Noah will leave you absolutely salivating. The spicy scenes may be sparse, but when they do appear, they are undeniably HOT!

And let me tell you—the ending was absolutely not anything I expected! It was crazy, dark, and twisted, and I LOVED it! The epilogue left me both elated and heartbroken at once, a perfect emotional crescendo to the story. I honestly wish I could experience reading this for the first time all over again.

Chloe Miller is an incredibly gifted writer, and I can't wait to dive into the rest of her works!

If The Fates Allow is a gripping blend of romance, mystery, and family drama. The story follows Willa, a young woman suffering from asthma who finds herself falling for her enigmatic doctor. But what begins as a love story quickly evolves into something much darker when disturbing secrets about her family’s past come to light.

Chloe Miller weaves an intriguing narrative, balancing emotional vulnerability with suspenseful twists. The romance is intense, but the tension that builds with each revelation makes this book difficult to put down. The novella's concise length works in its favor, keeping the pace brisk while still developing the characters and their relationships. Miller’s writing is evocative, painting a vivid picture of the Fairweathers and their haunting family legacy.

Overall, If The Fates Allow is a compelling read for fans of psychological thrillers and romantic mysteries, offering just the right mix of intrigue and heart.

4.5⭐
1.5🌶️
Tropes: Historical, Christmas, Virgin FMC, Protector MMC,
Single POV 3rd person

Set in the late 1800’s, If The Fates Allow is a short story that essentially gives the backstory of the Fairweather family and Haven House, focusing specifically on Wilhelmina (Willa) Fairweather. Willa is the emotionally and physically abused middle daughter in the family, who has recurring asthma attacks and is treated like she’s “sickly”. When her brother returns home, he brings with him his doctor friend, Noah, to see if he can help treat Willa’s breathing issues. What follows is a sweet love story wrapped in a murder mystery and exposed family secrets.

The author described this story as “deliciously Gothic” and I have to agree! This was such a satisfying read, and the love story between Willa and Noah is just so sweet. Along with that, even though it was written after the first 3 books in the series, I’m glad I read this first because I think it will be a good backstory/reference for when I read the other books. (I pretty much ran to Amazon to add The Secrets You Keep to my TBR as soon as I finished If The Fates Allow).

My only complaint is that I wish there’d been more explanation/a resolution about Grace’s song, but I still highly recommend you add this to your reading list.
