Triumph in the Ashes

Rate this book
Led by power-hungry lunatic Bruno Bottger, germ warfare strategy has turned African civilians into killing machines with no conscience and no mercy. With millions already wreaking havoc, it's up to Ben Raines and his Rebels to bravely defend a country under siege. Now, Ben and his men are outnumbered ten to one by Bottger's heavily-armed troops. But Raines has a weapon nobody counted on: his own vision for the future--and a do-or-die determination to see it come true.

I really like the Ashes series, and this is my second read through although the first read through only covered the first 12 or 13 books (I read them in the late 80s.). In this one Ben is once again pulling rabbits out of his hat in tactics. But I think Johnstone was starting to slip a little in this book. I believe I notice several times when Col Marsh was referred to as her and woman. Also, Johnstone is usually really good about his weapons systems but in one or two cases refers to PUFFs as jets. Either way it is a great read and it is no wonder the FBI and other government branches were on Johnstone’s case. The government just cannot take it when someone calls it like it is in Washington! One side note is that in several of his other series he takes the same political positions and is almost prophetic in his writing as to what takes place years after his death.

While the pot continues to boil in the SUSA and an assination is attempted on Cecil Jeffries, Ben continues the Africa Campaign.

Very good adventure series. Basically the forming of a new United States after WW3 and the story of the man who leads and forms it. If you like men's adventure stories you will enjoy it. Recommended

Love the action.

I love Johnstone's brand of action. Quick and easy reading. If you like a book light on fluff that cuts to the chase... this series is for you.
