Cute and fun, as usual for a Disney Channel novelization...but the writing style was a bit annoying.
EDIT: I've been trying to read short books to get ahead on my reading goal, and I figured Disney Channel novelizations were a perfect fit. Unfortunately, likely due to the fact that Lizzie McGuire aired its last episode over a decade and a half ago, my local library system didn't have much literature based on the series; they had this book and two Cine-Manga volumes. Worse yet, the episode the latter half of this book is based on--about Lizzie and Miranda buying their first bras--has always been among my least favorite of the series, though I've liked for a while the appearance by actor Robert Carradine's real-life brother, David, especially now that he has passed away. So, yes, it's Lizzie McGuire, my most influential show ever...but this isn't the best it has to offer. You may feel differently if these episodes were among your top five.
(This is a review of the audiobook version, which is part of My Very First Way Cool Boxed Set! I purchased it on the Apple Books store.)
For a while in high school, I watched Lizzie McGuire almost every night, except when I had church services or was grounded. I think I saw some episodes umpteen times. In recent years, I've read all of the print novels--several more than once--and even watched the entire series on iTunes. So...what else is left? Imagine my surprise when I saw audiobook versions of some of the prose adaptations on the Apple Books store. While that Hilary Duff sitcom wasn't the best show ever--even other Disney Channel sitcoms, such as That's So Raven or Suite Life, are much more humorous and have vastly superior production values--it is still the one with the most influence on me; it did to me what Super Mario Bros. did to video games.
So, how was the audiobook? Well, the narrator has a great voice, and she did the characters--especially snooty cheerleader Kate--very well. While the episodes adapted here may only take twenty to twenty-five minutes to watch--well, without commercials, anyway--the extra details added make the audio version take a bit longer.
However, this production wasn't perfect. For one, where Lizzie's animated alter ego is shown voicing her thoughts in the print version, the narrator says them in third person. Why couldn't they just say, "Lizzie thought..."? Also, the last episode adapted here has never been among my favorites; as a guy, I'm not too keen on a story about girls buying their first bras in any form. Female listeners may be able to identify with that story; it just makes me feel creepy. From what I remember, most of the other episodes that this production is based on weren't among my least favorites, except for the one about bad girl Angel, which was so terrible Disney even omitted it from their "Volume One" DVD release.
So, how you feel about this audiobook will depend on your feelings not only about Lizzie's show, but also the episodes featured here.
2,5 ⭐️ i read this to get out of my reading slump, it was cute and warm and a quick read. i’ve never watched / read lizzie mcguire media and this was okay.
I found a collection of Lizzie Acquires books from 2002-3 at my building libraries, and oh my god, what a gem!! There is a name on the cover, and this book belonged to someone named Joyce in 2003. Thank you, Joyce. I promise to cherish this and pass it along through generations. I can't believe this is a two-year-old book; this is wild.
4/5 stars - Super cute read! There were actually two "episodes" within one book, something I did not know considering the back of the book only had the Science Camp description. Either way, brought me right back to my childhood and enjoyed a light read.
These are two cute stories focused on Lizzie's mom, both of which deal with Lizzie being embarrassed but later realizing that her mom is actually doing her best to support her.
being reminded of these books was like unlocking childhood memories. especially the comics! such distinct memories of owning these. anyways, lizzie mcguire was a fav of mine, and even though it’s been agessss since i watched it, i could still picture the episode playing out in my head as i read. it’s a very short book with two episodes novelized, one of which is probably one of my (and everyone else’s) more remembered ones (the bra episode), and it’s just fun, silly, very tween, and most of all, nostalgic.
(novelizations of 1x03 “when moms attack” and 1x12 “between a rock and a bra place”)
The first story is about a class fieldtrip overnight into the woods. One of the teachers is unable to go so Lizzie's mother ends up going with them, causing Lizzie no end of embarrassment which tends to go up some when her mother leads a toilet-papering attack on the boy's section of the camp.
This story is pretty funny and does show that mothers and daughters can still have a good relationship even when the daughter is in junior high.
This story is based on episode 5 of the series, "When Moms Attack."
This part of the story concerns Lizzie and her friend Miranda wanting to buy their first bras, a somewhat embarrassing undertaking for them made no easier when Lizzie's mother wants to come along with them and help the girls find the proper bras.
It's a really cute story and at the same time does give the reader a good idea of the importance of physical image to young girls of Lizzie's age especially when they are just starting to "bloom," as the saying goes.
This story is based on episode 11 of the series, "Between a Rock and a Bra Place"
Dis book iz poppin i lik how the discribe the action on there events and i think lizza iz a cool person nd she just need space from her mother nd dat shehad no space to breathe with her mother nd need to leave so dat she can get space a way from everyone nd dats alll heheh dis book iz for kids dat feel space nd trap nd need space i read dis book to my mom iz every good for kids hehehehehe luv ya
It was a fun reading this book. This is the first import novel that I got by winning a quiz from Donal Bebek magazine when I was in elementary school. The story was interesting and I could not stop laughing while reading about Lizzie and her friends wanted to go to the mall and buy some bras. It is recommended for the children I think.
So the girls told me the other Lizzie McGuire book I read wasn't that great and I should read this one.
They were right. This one was much better. The first half was a nice mother daughter thing. The girls forgot that the second part was very girly - about buying a first bra! I can imagine that would be a daunting prospect. I'm sure this story is very relatable.
This book is funny but acts out the moral that no matter how annoying your parents might seem, they will always want the best for you, so if your mad at your parents, then you should read this book :)
This book was actually pretty well written andinteresting! I loved watching the show and this was just like one of the shows. I can understand when mom's attck.
