In this irresistible picture book, the exceptionally adorable global sensation Maxine the Fluffy Corgi teaches your littlest reader the importance of figuring out what they love to do and doing it with their whole hearts!
Maxine needs a job. Well, maybe she doesn’t need a job, but she’d very much like one. Her talented dog friends all have jobs, and as a talented dog herself, she should have one too . . . right?
From working as a lifeguard at the beach to pulling a sled in the snow, Maxine tries (and fails at) her friends’ jobs until she realizes the key to finding the perfect doing what she loves.
From the humans behind one of the most famous and fluffiest corgis in the world comes a tail-wagging tale about a small but mighty dog named Maxine.
Readers in search of an amusing animal-themed read aloud might consider this one [3.5 for me!]. There's something adorably amusing and appealing about corgis and their fluffy backsides, and the dog in this picture book, Maxine, is depicted perfectly in the large illustrations, created with Photoshop and a Wacom tablet. She certainly doesn't suffer from low self-esteem, and as she pursues various jobs, including lifeguarding, chicken protector, truffle hunter, and even a sled dog, among others, she either fails miserably or quickly discards them from consideration. The images of her attempts and failures are quite humorous. But the irrepressible dog has one talent that she hasn't consider, and all those quirky things about her that she takes for granted just might add up to the perfect job--that of a comedian. The endpapers even feature dog biscuits, and a dog paw scrolling through Instagram, proof that Maxine has found her niche.
I received a copy of this book for my honest opinion.
Maxine feels unfulfilled and wants to be a working dog, but what job would work for her? I liked this book by more importantly, my kids loved this book. Maxine is adorable and her adventures into doggie employment are cute. I appreciate that it highlights that not all dogs are made to do all jobs, whether it is because of morphology or just lack of interest. Before this book, I didn’t know that Maxine was an actual dog celebrity but once I did, her ultimate job makes perfect sense. A great book for dog lovers, especially if you like corgis.
I bought this because I’m a huge fan of Maxine the fluffy corgi and have a corgi of our own. I’m also a voracious reader and hope to someday have grandchildren or great nieces/nephews to whom I can read this book. I think it is a super cute book that will allow for a conversation that not everyone is good at the same things and you may need to try lots of different tasks before you find the perfect fit for you. It would work well to explain an adult’s job change or older sibling/cousin internship or job shadow.
👧🏻reviews: I love love corgis and seeing them, it makes me happy to see them. This book about Maxine and her fascination to get a job is such a cute book. It is so funny that German Shepherds and bloodhounds usually have important roles and jobs, and Maxine simply wanted to be recognized as an important dog makes this book cute and funny read. The adorable graphics and the storyline are perfect for little ones to read and enjoy. Have fun reading this book because it is such a fun read for me.
Authors Gryn and Reisberg have made their dog Maxine an Instagram sensation and now have featured her in this new book. Maxine has decided that she needs a job like other dogs she knows. She tries doing what some of her friends do, but each of those efforts has complications. He finally discovers she has a natural talent to make other dogs laugh and decides comedy is the best job for her. Batori's illustrations capture the fun of Maxine's attempts at other careers.
A laugh out loud humorous picture book about Maxine, an adorable corgi, who wants to get a job like the other talented dogs she has seen on social media. She makes sincere attempts at being a life guard, a guard dog, etc. but they all hilariously don't work out. Fortunately, once Maxine decides to be true to her own talent, she is a huge success. The illustrations are terrific and the message for all ages of following your own, unique path is truly wonderful. This will be a fun book to share!
Incredibly cute illustrations, and of course an on target message of "you don't have to try to be someone you're not" (or at least, that's what I took away from it). Charming even if you're not a dog fan, or if you don't know Maxine from the internet. The situations she finds herself in are silly enough that I can see it getting a lot of giggles from your little ones.
I've been following Maxine on social media for a while, and was really excited when I found out her parents were writing a book about her. It was definitely as adorable as expected, and I loved the message that we all have different interests and strengths and that you don't need to be the exact same as even someone you admire to make a difference in the world.
If the reader loves corgis or dogs in general, this will be a cute book for them. It does showcase a few "dog jobs" (most of which a corgi isn't suited for). The ending to me was lackluster. It won't blow your socks off, but its cute. The illustrations are really what make this book stand out. (Diamond 25-26)
Maxine the fluffy corgi, decides to get a job. She doesn't really need one, but goes on the hunt for one that suits her, and her personality. After seeking and discovering that she's not suited for just any job, Maxine finds the perfect job.
Maxine wants to find what she's good at and looks to her friends for help. She finds her unique talent after trying several different things (with hilarious results). This book has a great message about celebrating our differences and embracing what makes us unique!
Maxine tries out several of the jobs that her friends have but discovers that she wouldn't be good at any of them. Follow her silly adventures as she tries to find what she is good at. Corgi lovers will be super entertained with this story and it would make a great storytime book.
Cute book about a dog looking for a job. She tries lots of things based on what her friends do but none of them work out for her. Once she realizes she has to do what she likes, then she finds the perfect job.
