Very simplistic plot and the characters were nothing special, they felt sort of hollow. This one had a rushed ending that was not only cheesy, but almost annoying with how she chose to wrap up the whole plot in less than 4 pages. I can't stand when a book has a nice flow, things take their course, it's super detailed throughout every scene and chapter.... and then BAM! End of book that lacks any depth and feels insincere with it's closure. It had such potential but never got there, kind of disappointed considering some of the content that I find enjoyable (i.e. Greek mythology).

At the hotel where I recently spent a holiday, this book was in the library. On a whim I decided to return to a writer that I had enjoyed greatly when I was 12 years old. Bad bad decision!
Even for a seriously light romantic writer, this was a disaster. i remember Mz Cartland with at least pretensions to a story line. Generally virginal heroine meets strong assertive rich hero, they hate each other, he has a dalliance with some rich haughty unworthy female but the heroine is saved by him and they fall in love. Than there is an incendiary consummation, by means of a kiss. The latter generally reads as follows "For a moment Larina felt her lips cold against his then something wild and ecstatic ran through her like forked lightning"!
Except for the kiss, which wasn't even at the end of the story, this was feeble and forgettable.
I was lead astray Gentle Reader by the rather sweet illustration on the paperback that has been the trademark of all Cartland novels.
As someone once said, the past is a country that you cannot revisit. I should have listened.

With the exception of being dumb enough to fall for the evildoer's plot...fun read. I Ioved the Roman and Greek references. "Read again" pile.
