Something strange is going on at Stephanie's house. Her parents never keep secrets from her, but lately they've been whispering behind her back. Kate thinks the Greens are planning a asuprise for Stephanie - Maybe they're getting a swimming pool.
I have vague memories of this one. Stephanie notices her parents are keeping a secret from her and thinks her dad lost his job. She has the girls follow him to see if he goes to work. He goes to the bank for a loan and that causes the girls to believe it's true and also gets them lunch in the principal's office which was weird since they just sat there and I'm not even sure if they ate anything which I wouldn't think a school official would do, refuse food. Anyway the girls clip contest entries out of magazines hoping to win money and hold a yard sale where Stephanie sells a lot of her clothes including new stuff and Mrs. Green finally announces she's pregnant and the loan was to build a new addition onto the house so the baby can have their own room. Stephanie also gets some of her clothes back. Not as funny as the BSC yard sale where the kids took random sometimes valuable things without their parents knowledge that was a classic. The b plot involves a talent show where the girls go pure 80s and lip sync to a pop song and Jenny Carlin attempts to sabotage but all works out in the end. As I said I think I read this one pretty sure I made it through all of them as it was much shorter a series than BSC was but some are more memorable than others.
I read this series as a kid and thoroughly loved them. With my daughter getting close to the same age as I was when I read them, I started looking for them recently. Unfortunately, I had not found any. Then on Christmas morning, I opened a gift from my brother and there were three of them! I cannot wait for my daughter to read them and hopefully, cherish them as much as I do.
Stephanie’s Family Secret Plot: Stephanie is convinced her dad has lost his job. He and Mrs. Green seem to be keeping something from her. So, she convinces the rest of the SF to follow her Dad one morning to see if he’s going to work or just going to the library to make it look like he’s at work during the day. They follow him to a bank and jump to the conclusion they’re about to be broke. And he’s going in to get a loan. Patti, Kate, and Lauren decide to throw a yard sale to help Stephanie out. But her mom finds out and reveals that she’s expecting. I think the loan was for an extension on the house. The SF also enter a talent contest. They do a dance routine off a pop song, but their music messes up. It’s Jenny of course. They use her music. Then I think there’s get’s fixed and they finish the routine.
My Thoughts: The most interesting part of this book was when they ride past the school and miss a good chunk of the morning when they’re supposed to be in school following Mr. Green. Its just something exciting about cutting school. The only other thing was they win a donkey from filling out a entry to win money. That was just odd. Didn’t have any thoughts on Stephanie about to be a big sister. Babies are cute but they don’t make me wanna jump up and down.
I can't wait until the baby is born. (Also I'm excited for Stephanie's apartment to be built, knowing that it's coming. I was always so envious reading about it!)
