Alex McCord isn't sure who to trust after she stumbles on a dead body and then that body disappears. David Denham, her ex-husband, shows up and his presence isn't comforting at all. In fact, she's not sure she can trust him any more than the other man who wants to court her, an ex-Navy SEAL.
When yet another dead body shows up and then a hurricane descends on the middle portion of the Florida Keys, it's anyone's guess who is going to survive the killer and/or the hurricane.
I've read books by Heather Graham in the past and enjoyed them so I thought I'd give this one a shot. I'm only on chapter 4 and already I'm having major issues with this book.
Firstly, too many characters were introduced to quickly, and I still can't keep them straight. And of those characters, the most important ones (the hero and the heroine) are both detestable (the hero) and flaky (the heroine).
Secondly, I truly despise stupid characters, or characters doing stupid things, inserted into the plot in order to force a plot narrative or plot twist. This book has it in spades.
Thirdly, the format the book follows is just plain bad. When it come to this kind of book, the rule of thumb is start where the action starts. Ok, technically it DOES that, but then the next 10 (out of 12) chapters then become flashback scenes as they occur BEFORE the prologue chronologically. This is just clunky, plain and simple, and does absolutely nothing to improve the overall effect of the story.
In The Dark was a bonus story that came along with my copy of Suspicious, which I couldn't finish. So, I was really, REALLY hoping to like this one. The first page was an editing disaster, and I very nearly put it down. However, the story pulled me back in. I didn't look for editing problems after that. However, the relationship between the hero & heroine was annoying, in that they are divorced, because he didn't seem to have any interest in her needs, and when they get back together in the end, that isn't resolved. So, she's getting back together with him purely because they are good together in bed, even though she specifically says in the text, "Sex doesn't make a marriage" Having said that, the story was entertaining, you didn't know who the baddie was until the end, and there was enough suspense to keep me interested, so an OK book for a light read.
I like Heather Graham’s Krewe of Hunters series but wasn’t sure I would like this one. I did. This has no paranormal like Krewe of Hunters. It’s just straight up suspense but it’s good suspense. Wasn’t sure who the killer was until the very end. A resort paradise in the Florida Keys, a body on the beach found by Alex. A body that has disappeared by the time Alex can bring others to see it.
This story kept me guessing.Alex send her husband divorce papers than left to work with dolphins when her husband shows up and dead bobies start to show up shes not sure who she can or cannot trust. Then a storm comes to the island and everyone is sent away there are 6 people left there but whos the killer and why.
Really good book. Didn't realize it had two stories in this book. I was happily surprised. I love Heather Graham she is a great author. Makes me wish life happened this way. We have the tragedy but just not the happily ever after. A man loving you so much they would die for you.
If I could give this book a 3.5 rating I would. for me it was just an ok book. it moved along kinda nice and you were trying to figure who did it till the end but that was about it for me.
