Good resource

I’ve used this book 2 years in a row to assist with my employees’ performance reviews. I’ve used it as a starting point. I’m surprised Interpersonal skills, Participation, and Achieves Business Results were not part of the Core Competencies. None of the job titles and roles apply to what my employees do so I pull portions out of various places and then do additional research on websites and other books.

Effective and plentiful

There are lots of examples of effective statements and bullet points to make as a roster or evaluator. Easily digestible and well organized. Came in useful for some of my more difficult people who had sub-par evaluations. Found some gems for the top performers that generated good ideas and quantifiable and qualitative appraisals.

Excellent starter resource

Loved the categorization of Phrases related to meets/exceeds/fails expectations which is exactly what managers need. The book could use more chapters on IT/digital related roles. It's an excellent resource to start a draft and/or augment reviews, both self assessment and as a people manager.

This is a really good book to have on hand, especially when working on performance appraisals and coaching plans. This is one of my go-to references a few times a year. Therefore, it remains a standard on my bookshelf.

I think the opening chapter establishes a good baseline for the purpose of performance reviews, and the appendices of verbs and adverbs is helpful, like a thesaurus for reviews.

Friends, laugh at me if you want, but words are hard and professional words are harder. This is a book for a very specific need, but if you have that need, it is amazing.

Probably could use some updating. I really like this list. It's given me ideas of where I need to improve as well as ideas as to what I should be looking for in others.

Really helpful! I listened on Audible, but I think this would be better to own as a physical book so you can tab and refer back to different sections.

So useful! Don’t tell anyone I work with I read this, LOL! JK, I think if you need to write reviews, even just your own, this book is a gem. It’s not just like you copy stuff out. It just gives you a good template of how to construct sentences. Like I’ve always avoided adverbs but they’re pretty useful in reviews eg “reliably demonstrates”, “consistently focuses on”. But not only that it actually helps you think about the people you work with. Also you can easily invert the strengths and weaknesses as needed. REALLY useful book, surprised I didn’t give it five stars! I wonder why not....lol.

Not very impressed there are better books

I have used these types of books in the past. This one is mediocre. The one part of this book I may revisit will be the phrases related to lower performance as I have to complete any at risk evaluations.

Good HR book that is not only easy read but easy to implement. There is even a section of prewritten goals for specific jobs. Can't get any easier than that!
