Accidents happen for a reason...

Journalist Ambrosia Pellerin accepts an assignment involving the legendary phoenix, expecting, if nothing else, a little entertainment. Instead, she winds up pregnant—by a surprisingly human-looking firebird, Reece Bennu.

As the Phoenix prince, Reece is next in line to the throne and expected to marry a purebred royal. A common human such as

I have come to the conclusion that author Sarah Gilman has a gift. Her unique storylines alone can capture a reader's attention. Add to that, well developed characters and wings and you just can't miss. Yes, you read that correctly, I said wings. Sarah seems to have a true affection for creatures with wings.

This was a great easy read. The fact that our hero is a phoenix made for a refreshing and different paranormal romance and because of the associated elements of sun, heat and fire it wasn't by any means 'dark'. I just wish it had been longer as I was left wanting more.

Having discovered they are to be parents following a fairly unique conception, Reece and Ambrosia are scared and fearful of the future - as are most parents-to-be. But when Daddy is a thousand year old phoenix of regal stature, it

I absolutely loved Ashes by Sarah Gilman. The storyline was unique, you don't come across many books from the paranormal genre that feature a phoenix. I loved the idea of a phoenix that can shift at will to human from the minute I read the synopsis.

Ambrosia and Reece are incredible characters that were beautifully written. They have been thrown together in the most extreme of circumstances, and have to figure out a way to make it
Ambrosia is a journalist and her job is to find the truth. On assignment after the legendary phoenix she is sure she will just find a story that isn't true. When she is attacked, she gets saved by a strange man and sees him die. Later on she finds out she is pregnant. If that wasn't a shock enough she finds the man she thought had died is alive and the father of her child. He is also a phoenix and wants to help her with the baby. Reece never wanted to be father to a half phoenix child. He has al ...more
My heart is on fire right now. It's 2:30 in the morning. I couldn't sleep after this book grabbed me by the throat and pulled me in. Phoenix's, fire, trees, flying, romance, heat, family, and discovery are racing through my brain. Of all the stories Gilman has written, this is my favorite...which I didn't thinks was possible after lusting over the chemistry she created between the characters in her first book "Out in Blue". The story is well paced, addicting, and unbelievably imaginative and cre ...more

When Ambrosia Pellerin is attacked and left for dead, she seeks help at an isolated farm house in the desert of New Mexico. She didn't know this would change the course of her life. The man who helped her was Reece Bennu. He is a Phoenix and royalty to his community of shapeshifters. Now she is pregnant with his child. She has to leave her family and everything she loves. Can she find happiness with Reece? Will his family accept her and her child? I love this book. The sexy and caring Phoenix is ...more

3 Stars!

The book was too short.
I never read a paranormal book about phoenixes. That’s why I was really interested in this book and the concept sounded intriguing. The world of phoenix shifters is very interesting. They might be immortal however they need warmth and sun to survive as well as different kinds of food / spices on a regular basis or they’ll die.

I had the feeling the synopsis was a bit misleading. I expected much more from the story. There is actually

I was given an ARC by Entangled Covet in exchange for an honest review. This was the first book by Sarah Gilman for me, and I'll definitely check out her books in the future. I'm the type that when I like I book, I tend to finish it one sitting. I did that with Ashes. I really liked the fact that she wrote about something different. It made getting sucked in so much easier since you don't read about a phoenix everyday. I think it's harder to take something new like a phoenix and buil everything ...more
The imaginations authors have will never cease to amaze me. Meet hot pheonix guy...he burst into flames and the next thing you know you're now pregnant without the actual enjoyment of the act. As you can imagine there are sure to be many obstacles along the way. This was definitely a new concept for me with characters that surprised me and left me wanting more.
There is so much that goes into writing a book and the author has the knowledge that they will be unable to please everyone. cat
I received an arc of this book and I'm glad I requested it. This was my first time reading about Phoenix's and I really enjoyed the story and characters.

Reece is a Phoenix about to rebirth, when ambrosia knocks on his door in distress, talk about bad timing!

Reece is lovely, but his honest almost too honest, I'd have told him to do one! Unfortunately circumstances mean Ambrosia can't. Amtrosia is very strong lead woman, but Reece's good looks and his damn smile do something to her. What could po

I really liked this book from beginning to end. There was no part that seemed slow or uninteresting. IT is not often that I find a book that has a new twist and when I do they are usually a let down. This book was so far from that!!!! A phoenix, a girl impregnated by ashes from his rebirth and a psycho grandmother. Good STUFF! I will definitely be watching for more books from Sarah Gilman.

I was given an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

This was a short, sexy, and sweet read. I quite enjoyed it! I love the paranormal aspect of it, and would definitely read more of this book. I know it's a novella, but I would have liked a bit more interaction between the two characters. I also loved the plot twist of the book, which is revealed pretty early on, and it just brings this book full circle by the end!

Overall, I'd recommend it if you want a quick paranormal with a HEA!
Reading the blurb for this raised some doubts for me about whether I was going to like this, but I was willing to take a chance anyway. You never know where an author is going to go with a plot.

Stating right up front that the main female character gets pregnant left the door wide open, but I really didn’t expect it to go the route of immaculate conception via ashes. That was a bit odd, but this is a fantasy novel, I’ll play along.

The story was okay and I think I would have liked it better, but t

I always savour a book that gives us something new. Vampires, zombies, shifters and witches are all well known troupes that we know and love, but sometimes you want a palate cleanser and this book certainly does the job.

The idea of a Phoenix was very inventive, and although a relatively short read, Ashes really opens up a whole new world to explore with this legend…..wait for it…..dary creature. Putting in that you can get pregnant by being around an exploding phoenix was genius, although I’m be
Ashes was very a pleasing surprise for me. I found it to be a sweet and exciting PNR with a new kind of shifter for me - a phoenix. With PNRs being my preferred genre, it’s not often I come across new and unique shifter so when the opportunity is offered, I jump. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and the plot twists were fairly unique. The ending was more than satisfying. Over-all I fantastic read.

Ambrosia is a journalist who is trying to interview a man who claims he knows where there a true and live phoenix. At the interview with the insider, he leaves her stranded in the woods. Ambrosia almost gets killed in the desert where she briefly meets a stranger who helps her with tenderness. The encounter ends in tragedy. Suddenly, she finds herself alone and pregnant. The worst thing of all is that she's never had sex with this gorgeous man blubbering about firebirds that burst in flames and sing like dying swans. Would she anyway considering he's crazy and threatens to turn her world upside down? Nevertheless, the pregnancy raises all kinds of ugly questions. Do they want to ...more

I'll admit I was intrigued by this because while I do love a shifter book, I have never read one about a phoenix shifter. In that respect I was very interested in the background the author created for Reece and getting pregnant just from ashes was, again, an interesting addition to the lore. That being said, where was the detail in the development of feelings between the two main characters? There was only one love scene which was heavily skimmed over, and all the other scenes suffered from a Ho ...more

Review from Jeannie Zelos Book reviews.
I hadn't realised this book was so short, I tend to avoid those, feeling they don't really allow the reader time to get deep into the story, and I like to be fully immersed in the plot and characters. What attracted me and made me miss the length constraints though was the Phoenix slant. I love paranormal but can't ever remember reading one with this in it. I'm glad I did as it was an enjoyable read.

I was drawn to this book by the story line that you do not find alot. In the paranormal genre you have alot of vampires and shifters and demons but not many contain mythical creatures from long ago. The phoenix story alone is interesting and to have someone write a romance with it is again what caught my eye. Ambrosia is journalist and following a fruitcake who is trying to reveal the phoenix is here and where is sent by her employer ti do a story and ends up at the door of Reece who tries to he ...more
This is the first book that I have read involving Phoenix. I really love the whole mythos behind these unusual creatures and it was a nice break from the standard fare of wolf and big cat shifters.

The story starts out with our heroine Ambrosia showing up at the hero's house after an attack by a man she was sent to interview who believes he has proof of the existence of a Phoenix. He helps tend to her wounds but quickly tries to send her on her way. Reece is about to go through his "rebirth" som
Sarah Gilman tells a beautiful love story. A Phoenix is a refreshing change from the normal pararomance species :)
The story line pulls you in from the moment you begin to read. Poor investgative reporter, Ambrosia, just can't seem to catch a break. Running from a psychotic paranormal investigator, she finds salvation in a run down shanty in the desert of New Mexico. Safe? Not quite. The gorgeous, caring stranger tends to her wounds, then suddenly makes her leave. She exits the shack just in time

This book is a fascinating and intriguing paranormal romance with refreshing and entertaining shifters.

Accepting an assignment the legendary phoenix, Ambrosia expects to get a little entertainment if nothing else but what she gets is pregnant a surprisingly human looking firebird. A powerful pureblood phoenix, Reece is surprised when Ambrosia is accidentally impregnated and finds himself caring for the human. But with a dangerous human out to prove his existence and his relatives out to keep the
When a journalist checking out a story gets attacked and left for dead and manages to walk to a somewhat safe haven in the middle of nowhere, nobody would have gotten her to believe what would have happened next. And she’s a journalist! Well the next thing she knows is that the guy who attacked her, attacked her because she might know something of the existence of a legendary bird called the Phoenix. Well she didn’t know and was just checking out a story by someone who may or may not have been ...more
Finally, the woman in the story doesn't take the news lying down that the man she is attracted to is different! Ambrosia doesn't get all goofy and say ok, you're a Phoenix, great. No, she stops and questions and holds back until she truly believes Reece, her phoenix lover is real and not crazy.

I would have loved to see more of this story fleshed out. It starts like a good mystery novel, with Ambrosia, a journalist, sent to interview the man who believes he has found proof of the existence of the
I really liked this book in the beginning, it catches your attention and keeps you engaged. I would have like more detail on what happened to Ambrosia with Wade, show it don't tell it after. That would have been an even better start for this book. Still, it is a great hook in the start.

The book jumps ahead a month later and still has a nice flow. You get to learn about phoenixes and then Ambrosia and Reece are reunited. I thought the whole side plot here sort of fell off, way too easy a resolve.

A paranormal book that doesn't revolve around Vampires, Werewolves or Fae.

This is book really runs well with the Phoenix idea and shows that the author has a good imagination. Ambrosia is a feisty woman and shows plenty of pluck when there is so much going on. Reece is a warm (no pun intended) character even if at first he does not know Ambrosia.

Both find themselves challenged and both have changes to make in their l

Even though I enjoyed the story I would not buy it. The story is way to short for what the author is trying to convey. It left me feeling like I missed out on a lot and I didn't get wrapped up with the characters. the story is unique and a Phoenix is definitely new as a romance spin off. Reece is a Pheonix a mythical bird that rises from ashes and is in New Mexico to shed his old self and rise again, he has to do this change away from populated areas because it can be pretty bright and fire is i ...more
The only fault I could find with this book was that I wish it had been seemed to go way too fast! This is the first book I've read of a phoenix shifter and yeah, I'm gonna go there, it was hot!

Ambrosia Pellerin stumbles across what looks like a dilapidated cabin and a really hunky looking guy named Reece Bennu in the middle of the desert after having been accosted by a crazy man she was sent to interview. The crazy man swears he found a true phoenix, straight from mythology. After b
I was excited to read this book-- Phoenix Shifter, new paranormal world, unplanned pregnancy. Awesome!

It did not disappoint. The mythical based world building is good. The writing is crisp and pleasurable. The romance is well paced and endearing.

I can't compliment Sarah Gilman enough for being able to build such a fleshed out paranormal world in the space and genre tropes of a category romance. It is really hard to do and many fail.

We have a hero and a heroine facing an unplanned child and wo
