Accidents happen for a reason...

Journalist Ambrosia Pellerin accepts an assignment involving the legendary phoenix, expecting, if nothing else, a little entertainment. Instead, she winds up pregnant—by a surprisingly human-looking firebird, Reece Bennu.

As the Phoenix prince, Reece is next in line to the throne and expected to marry a purebred royal. A common human such as

I have come to the conclusion that author Sarah Gilman has a gift. Her unique storylines alone can capture a reader's attention. Add to that, well developed characters and wings and you just can't miss. Yes, you read that correctly, I said wings. Sarah seems to have a true affection for creatures with wings.

Oh wow.
So this would have to be a 3.5 star read.

When I saw this, I really thought it'd be sorta fluff and basically cliché.
Surprise, surprise. It wasn't and boy did I have a grand old time reading this.

I can count the number of Phoenix books I've read on one hand. Completely novel a concept, yet it's not explored much. The couple I have read, have always followed the typical shifter plot base. That being said this wasn't much different in that sense. Except this read more like a contemporary

3 Stars!

The book was too short.
I never read a paranormal book about phoenixes. That’s why I was really interested in this book and the concept sounded intriguing. The world of phoenix shifters is very interesting. They might be immortal however they need warmth and sun to survive as well as different kinds of food / spices on a regular basis or they’ll die.

I had the feeling the synopsis was a bit misleading. I expected much more from the story. There is actually

Ambrosia is a journalist and her job is to find the truth. On assignment after the legendary phoenix she is sure she will just find a story that isn't true. When she is attacked, she gets saved by a strange man and sees him die. Later on she finds out she is pregnant. If that wasn't a shock enough she finds the man she thought had died is alive and the father of her child. He is also a phoenix and wants to help her with the baby. Reece never wanted to be father to a half phoenix child. He has al ...more

I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review!

I absolutely loved Ashes by Sarah Gilman. The storyline was unique, you don't come across many books from the paranormal genre that feature a phoenix. I loved the idea of a phoenix that can shift at will to human from the minute I read the synopsis.

Ambrosia and Reece are incredible characters that were beautifully written. They have been thrown together in the most extreme of circumstances, and have to figure out a way to make it

I was given an ARC by Entangled Covet in exchange for an honest review. This was the first book by Sarah Gilman for me, and I'll definitely check out her books in the future. I'm the type that when I like I book, I tend to finish it one sitting. I did that with Ashes. I really liked the fact that she wrote about something different. It made getting sucked in so much easier since you don't read about a phoenix everyday. I think it's harder to take something new like a phoenix and buil everything ...more

This was a great easy read. The fact that our hero is a phoenix made for a refreshing and different paranormal romance and because of the associated elements of sun, heat and fire it wasn't by any means 'dark'. I just wish it had been longer as I was left wanting more.

Having discovered they are to be parents following a fairly unique conception, Reece and Ambrosia are scared and fearful of the future - as are most parents-to-be. But when Daddy is a thousand year old phoenix of regal stature, it

The imaginations authors have will never cease to amaze me. Meet hot pheonix guy...he burst into flames and the next thing you know you're now pregnant without the actual enjoyment of the act. As you can imagine there are sure to be many obstacles along the way. This was definitely a new concept for me with characters that surprised me and left me wanting more.
There is so much that goes into writing a book and the author has the knowledge that they will be unable to please everyone. cat

When Ambrosia Pellerin is attacked and left for dead, she seeks help at an isolated farm house in the desert of New Mexico. She didn't know this would change the course of her life. The man who helped her was Reece Bennu. He is a Phoenix and royalty to his community of shapeshifters. Now she is pregnant with his child. She has to leave her family and everything she loves. Can she find happiness with Reece? Will his family accept her and her child? I love this book. The sexy and caring Phoenix is ...more

I received an arc of this book and I'm glad I requested it. This was my first time reading about Phoenix's and I really enjoyed the story and characters.

Reece is a Phoenix about to rebirth, when ambrosia knocks on his door in distress, talk about bad timing!

Reece is lovely, but his honest almost too honest, I'd have told him to do one! Unfortunately circumstances mean Ambrosia can't. Amtrosia is very strong lead woman, but Reece's good looks and his damn smile do something to her. What could po

My heart is on fire right now. It's 2:30 in the morning. I couldn't sleep after this book grabbed me by the throat and pulled me in. Phoenix's, fire, trees, flying, romance, heat, family, and discovery are racing through my brain. Of all the stories Gilman has written, this is my favorite...which I didn't thinks was possible after lusting over the chemistry she created between the characters in her first book "Out in Blue". The story is well paced, addicting, and unbelievably imaginative and cre ...more

This was a short, sexy, and sweet read. I quite enjoyed it! I love the paranormal aspect of it, and would definitely read more of this book. I know it's a novella, but I would have liked a bit more interaction between the two characters. I also loved the plot twist of the book, which is revealed pretty early on, and it just brings this book full circle by the end!

Overall, I'd recommend it if you want a quick paranormal with a HEA!

I really liked this book from beginning to end. There was no part that seemed slow or uninteresting. IT is not often that I find a book that has a new twist and when I do they are usually a let down. This book was so far from that!!!! A phoenix, a girl impregnated by ashes from his rebirth and a psycho grandmother. Good STUFF! I will definitely be watching for more books from Sarah Gilman.

I was given an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
This book is not a bad read but the story is very simplistic. Nothing really happens the drama never evolves into suspense. There are token scenes with bad guys, who are an immediate threat one moment and then never talked about for the rest of the book. I liked the firebird shape shifting story line and the characters were well written and interesting; but in future books the author needs to include more drama and suspense.

Ashes is a great paranormal story that features a non-traditional creature....the Phoenix.

The story starts out in New Mexico. Ambrosia Pellerin is hot on the trail of an explorer who claims to have proof of the existence of the mythological creature knows as the phoenix. After approaching the man, named Lucas Wade, in the desert, he goes berzerk, beating her up, stealing her cell phone and car, and leaving her for dead in the harsh terrain. After awakening, Ambrosia stumbles around trying to fi

Ashes is my second try to Sarah Gilman's book. I'd read her novella, Ghost in the Fall and liked it. So, when Entangled offer me this, I read the blurb and request it. The story is about phoenix shapeshifter, a breed that rarely told in paranormal romance world (usually it's about wolf, lion, etc).

Ambrosia Pellerin is a journalist, and when she dragged out by crazy man in the middle of nowhere, hurt and battered, she meet Reece Bennu. Reece tend her wound but then something happen to him
I received an ARC through NetGalley.

I fully expected to not like Ashes. It's one of those cases where I just got excited based on the cover, PHOENIX, but didn't read the blurb. Then I did and was like...oh. Pregnancy is sooo not my thing, especially in a romance, but luckily it is not the focus of the story. It's just what gets the love interests together. Ambrosia (awful name!) is sent to interview some guy who claims to have found a phoenix. Well, he's crazy, thinks she's there to steal his st

I was drawn to this book by the story line that you do not find alot. In the paranormal genre you have alot of vampires and shifters and demons but not many contain mythical creatures from long ago. The phoenix story alone is interesting and to have someone write a romance with it is again what caught my eye. Ambrosia is journalist and following a fruitcake who is trying to reveal the phoenix is here and where is sent by her employer ti do a story and ends up at the door of Reece who tries to he ...more

Ambrosia almost gets killed in the desert where she briefly meets a stranger who helps her with tenderness. The encounter ends in tragedy. Suddenly, she finds herself alone and pregnant. The worst thing of all is that she's never had sex with this gorgeous man blubbering about firebirds that burst in flames and sing like dying swans. Would she anyway considering he's crazy and threatens to turn her world upside down? Nevertheless, the pregnancy raises all kinds of ugly questions. Do they want to ...more

Wow what a unique book from this new to me author. I have read quite a few shifter type books but I don't recall reading about a Phoenix before well unless you count Fawkes from the Harry Potter books! So this book was an irresistible one for me and I'm really pleased that I gave it a go.
This story starts with a young journalist Ambrosia being left stranded in the middle of no where by the guy she as supposed to interview. The fact that he was probably completely insane as he believed he had dis

This is the first book that I have read involving Phoenix. I really love the whole mythos behind these unusual creatures and it was a nice break from the standard fare of wolf and big cat shifters.

The story starts out with our heroine Ambrosia showing up at the hero's house after an attack by a man she was sent to interview who believes he has proof of the existence of a Phoenix. He helps tend to her wounds but quickly tries to send her on her way. Reece is about to go through his "rebirth" som

We have so many great books that came out in December of this year and ASHES is right there at the top with many others. I wanted to read ASHES because it sounded unique and it was that and more.

Ambrosia stumbles upon the house that Reece is in as she is searching for help after she was attacked. She's surprised by Reece's sudden need for her to leave after he was so tender and caring taking care of her injuries and when the house Reece is in blows up as she is getting in his borrowed car she's

Review from Jeannie Zelos Book reviews.
I hadn't realised this book was so short, I tend to avoid those, feeling they don't really allow the reader time to get deep into the story, and I like to be fully immersed in the plot and characters. What attracted me and made me miss the length constraints though was the Phoenix slant. I love paranormal but can't ever remember reading one with this in it. I'm glad I did as it was an enjoyable read.

Ashes was very a pleasing surprise for me. I found it to be a sweet and exciting PNR with a new kind of shifter for me - a phoenix. With PNRs being my preferred genre, it’s not often I come across new and unique shifter so when the opportunity is offered, I jump. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and the plot twists were fairly unique. The ending was more than satisfying. Over-all I fantastic read.

Reece is a phoenix. Not any old phoenix, he’s royalty. Ambrosia is a journalist and a human. Now

Review: Four stars for Sarah Gilman’s Ashes, a flaming HOT, fascinating read!

ASHES by Sarah Gilman is the first book by this author that I’ve read, but certainly not the last.

The story of the Phoenix, the bird that is reborn time and again from fire, is one that is both fascinating and also the premise of Sarah Gilman’s book. A journalist unknowingly steps into the home of a phoenix who is about to expire. As she leaves, the home explodes and there are some very interesting consequences to her i

The only fault I could find with this book was that I wish it had been seemed to go way too fast! This is the first book I've read of a phoenix shifter and yeah, I'm gonna go there, it was hot!

When a journalist checking out a story gets attacked and left for dead and manages to walk to a somewhat safe haven in the middle of nowhere, nobody would have gotten her to believe what would have happened next. I really liked this book in the beginning, it catches your attention and keeps you engaged. I would have like more detail on what happened to Ambrosia with Wade, show it don't tell it after. That would have been an even better start for this book. Still, it is a great hook in the start.

The book jumps ahead a month later and still has a nice flow. You get to learn about phoenixes and then Ambrosia and Reece are reunited. I thought the whole side plot here sort of fell off, way too easy a resolve.
