Zombies- as if that wasn’t enough to ruin any girl’s dream of a happily ever after.
A vaccination gone oh so wrong and a huge portion of the world’s population was turned into Zombies. Reagan Willow is forced out of her home when her parents become casualties of the horrid Zombie Apocalypse. With the help of her best friend Haley, they’ve become somewhat of experts on surviving the dangers of a world thrust into chaos and decay.
Reagan and Haley are on a vague mission to find somewhere safe to live out the remainders of their terrifying life when they stumble upon the Parkers, a pack of brothers that seem to have the survival thing down in a much more efficient and successful way than Reagan could ever have imagined. They are also protecting their eight year old sister, Page, and will do anything to keep her safe.
The brothers decide that Reagan and Haley need help with being kept safe as well, and as a group they set off to find the Zombie-free utopia Reagan is dreaming of.
Zombies are a daily problem, constantly threatening the lives of their group, but they’re not the only peril on the journey ahead. Militia groups of power hungry men are also a constant concern. And settlements of paranoid, suspicious people turn out to be just as hazardous.
Danger looms over every inch of the way, but Reagan, Haley and the Parkers are determined to get to their goal and remain together. Soon the Parkers become more to Reagan than just traveling companions and more than friendship starts to develop between her and Hendrix, the second oldest brother.
But at the end of the world, nothing can be as simple as life and death. Now, Reagan is going to have to schedule falling in love between hunting and surviving. Hopefully she can last long enough to find out if true love can still exist when everything else has started to fall apart.

Rachel Higginson is the best-selling author of The Five Stages of Falling in Love, Every Wrong Reason, Bet on Us and The Star-Crossed Series.
She was born and raised in Nebraska, and spent her college years traveling the world. She fell in love with Eastern Europe, Paris, Indian Food and the beautiful beaches of Sri Lanka, but came back home to marry her high school sweetheart. Now she spends her days writing stories and raising five amazing kids.
I think this is my first proper zombie book and I have to say I enjoyed it.
Yes it's a bit childish but it's YA so it's expected.
This is six books in one so easy to pick up and put down.
This is the story of Reagan and Haley. Two teenagers who before the world ended were cheerleaders and now they have to fight every single day for survival from the feeders.
I will read the rest of the series.
Four stars.
At time of posting this series is available on Kindle Unlimited.
I had already fallen in love with Rachel Higginson, by reading her adult romance. When I saw that she had a zombie series out as well, I jumped on it immediately! First, I love all things zombies. (Except The Walking Dead T.V. series—go figure.) The start of the outbreak was a slight twist on an already used plot, but it was done cleverly, and with the perfect opportunity for snark and a little fun, so I didn't mind.
You're thrown into the world of Reagan and Haley, who are just so easy to relate to! From shooting zombies to snagging pretty undies when they get the chance. They understand the rarity of a well fitting pair of shoes, but then don't hesitate to snag some new eyeliner when it comes their way. Two young adults who have taken the life that has been forced on them, adapted, and to some extent, thrived under pressure. They fight their own battles and royally kick ass in the process.
When the girls run in to the Parker family, life just gets even more complicated. Here we have every girl's dream. Strong, sexy, kind brothers, who would move heaven and earth to protect those they love, and who are fiercely devoted to their little sister. Obviously, romance begins to blossom, but that is not the key plot in this story of survival, and I appreciated that. A slight triangle is handled maturely and realistically, without all the angst that so many writers like to throw in. Survival is the main focus, as it should be. There are plenty of slow burn, tense moments, but nothing gratuitous and that keeps a little innocence in a very impure world.
I devoured this book, and because I couldn't possibly get enough, I jumped immediately into Volume Two. Yes, that's right. The best part of this series for me is that it goes on and on. I hate leaving characters, and there is nothing I like better than to stay with them book after book, especially when it's as well written as this one. ~ George, 5 stars
Love and Decay is an exceptional zombie apocalypse story. I believe it's unique in its genre. It feels believable, it feels real. And it was easy to connect with these characters, on an emotional level.
Reagan and Haley have been in survival mode for the last two years. Ex-cheerleaders and able to find humor, even in the apocalypse. They've been together but a chance meeting with some boys and a little sister. They are brought in like family. There's danger all around them. Being the zombies are evolving, to the survivors trying to save themselves.
This is such an intense story. I didn't want to stop reading, I needed to know what was going to happen to them. Reagan and Haley are by far the best characters. Their strong but also have their real moments, where all they want is to survive. They don't want to be eaten or taken as a prisoner. They'll fight to the end. But it does beg the question, is there room for love in the Zombie Apocalypse?
“Love is the strongest motivator of all, Reagan. Stronger than fear, stronger than hate, stronger than whatever else is out there. Love is more than enough to survive with; it’s enough to live with.”
I’ve never read a book, where the layout was episodes. But I actually loved it. Episodes 1-6 were included in Vol 1. This is also my first Higginson book and I’m going to continue on with Love and Decay. It has the perfect mix of humor, danger, love and action. (I'm actually afraid that someone I like is going to kick the bucket and I really don't want that to happen)
I'm not usually a Zombie apocalypse fan except for the movie Zombieland but I actually enjoyed this series so far. I liked how good a team Reagan and Haley seemed. They were strong yet still acted like young girls/women. Reagan might seem a little too flawless at times so I hope she makes some mistakes in the future. I wasn't sure how I felt about Haley's POV at first but then I was super curious about her. I hope we see more of her POV in the future. I loved the Parker family a lot and their dynamics. I'm glad Rachel added in a little girl because I like reading series with characters with a variety of ages and see how they act and everything. Sometimes all teens/early 20s characters can get monotonous. The boys do seem a little good to be true though but I mean how can you not secretly like reading that? There were a lot of spelling and grammar mistakes which could have been fixed easily. I know that this was a free download and it might seem pointless to put the effort in but that can put some readers off from reading the rest of the series. I'm definitely continuing on with the series with high hopes.
This is like The Walking Dead for the CW crowd. Zombie gore with a dash of college age behavior. Fun. This series is written as a series of episodes. Each episode contains a complete story. However, the overall story continues on to the next one much like in a tv show.
The main character Reagan is 20 but was an 18 year old in high school when the zombie apocalypse happened. Incidentally, the cause of the apocalypse? The cure for Herpes. Priceless. In some ways Reagan still acts like an immature 18 year old. But it's refreshing to see a strong female protagonist who is also conscious of life without a razor or make-up. Why is it that strong females in books have to be cold and clinical? Reagan is strong but also exudes warmth and fun.
The editing in this series is not so good. At times it was frustrating. The wrong words can really screw up a sentence.
If you are reading this review you are probably trying to decide if you should pick up this volume of books by Higginson. The answer is absolutely! With each episode you get zombies, suspense and romance. The perfect recipe for total awesomeness. You will be following the lives of Reagan, Haley and the Parker family as they travel across the desolate U S of A in search of a better life away from the hordes of zombies and those out to cause evil since the government no longer exists. Once you are done with the first episode you will be calling these characters family and will care about their wellbeing. Settle in and kick back...this is one hell of a journey you are about to partake in.
At first, I wasn't sure what to think about this book. A zombie apocalypse where the zombie virus is contracted through herpes... However, the further I got into the book, the more I loved it. I fell in love with the characters, and all of their story lines. I'm not sure what to think about Tyler. I have a feeling that she's going to stab them in the back at some point. I'm so excited to read the next volume in the series.
So this one has been in my kindle for ages. Truthfully I don't know why I hadn't picked it up sooner. This is a fabulously written, uper YA, Zompoc Romance. Though there really isn't anything new or unique about the author's take on zombies, it is well told with interesting characters and a story line that keeps you invested.
Though most of the characters are in there early 20's, I would definitely classify this as upper YA rather than NA. Unfortunately, I have left my YA reading days behind. I do try to go back every now and again and in this case I'm glad I did. My only gripe is that I needed a character with an actual flaw. These main characters were all well rounded and well adjusted people. Sure they had some quirks but no real flaws to overcome. For me, an apocalypse should bring out both the best and the worst in people and all we got, thus far, was the best.....well, except for the zombies and the occasional bad-guy cameo.
While I enjoyed the story, I was left wanting a bit more umph. If you're more of hero than anti-hero reader and enjoy ya romance (with a bit extra spice), this story is made for you.
I'm hooked so glad I read this !!! I'm thoroughly enjoying the character buildup! There are a few I'm not so sure about but we will have to see what happens!!!
This is an interesting series. It has humour so things don't get too heavy but at the same time they do loose people and there is violence and killing.
The series is a long one and these main characters stories continue for 3 seasons. There is also a spin off series that deals with the sister later.
There is little intimacy. There is touching, hugging and a few kisses but no sex until much later in the last season. The main 2 characters have love interests but due to the nature of the start of the virus and the constant threat there are no intimate scenes until the end of season 3.
Each season ends on a HFN with an enemy thread running through the whole series. Each episode either ends as HFN with a goal set for the next or at times an immediate threat will run across several episodes. At the time I read these the whole series was on Amazon KU so it was possible to read one after the other or complete in a box set. If you start reading and want to get to a HEA you will need to read the entire 3 seasons. There is the immediate zombie threat which is constant but also the series deals with humanities reaction to survival. Often a bigger threat is the desire for power between the surviving groups and these at times use lack of resources and scientific experimentation to control the main threats. Later in the series there is a love triangle situation of sorts for the heroine. It's not exactly a love triangle but there is a dividing force between the main couple due to the interest from another man. There are no intimate details but there is a kissing scene with the other man, but at the time the main couple are not together. The characters are all very different, they have their flaws but they are college age so when they make mistakes and sometimes they are stupid ones I put it down to youth and although they have learnt survival through experience the threat is constant so it's not easy for them to be sensible all the time. There is a good bit of banter between the group and a great deal of humour. There are some serious issues dealt with too and the main human enemy threat is pretty evil.

This review is for season one and two. I haven't read the third season yet. So I'm sure I'll edit this review once I have.
Great read! Highly recommended and addictive!
Starts with two girls surviving in a world full of.......you guessed it Zombies!!! After a couple of years on their own, (V cards intact) they run into a family of HOT guys and their adorable little sister. They decide to travel and survive together. Making their way downtown, walking fast, faces pas....wait what? *clears throat* I ment making their way down SOUTH they run into people. Bad guys who say they're good guys, then run into people they thought were bad guys but are actually good guys. And zombies!.....the dead guys!. Yay! I get excited when they show up, you know when you least expect it. Like around corners, in the dark right behind you, or when they get their friends and family together and try to convince you to come join their gang. Granted you pass initiation (everyone gets to bite you)
Nutshell: Throughout the books the group find themselves bonding, fighting, laughing, starving, stranded, captured, escaping, starting relationships, breaking up, adding new people to their group, getting separated, reuniting, getting bitten! Dying! Pregnant!? dun dun DUN! All the while being chased by insatiable flesh eaters!
Side note: Romance blossoms and a love triangle is......forced?. Its probably just me but I might be developing a little stockholm-ish syndrome coming on. *feels forehead* yup I knew it, a little feverish.
Fast pace. Lots of action, drama, horror and of course laugh out loud humor. E.g. Quote: ""Aren't you going to rape me?" I demanded a little put out that the thought hadn't even crossed his mind. "What? Do you want me to rape you?" He asked sounding more appalled then before. Good for him; this was a single guy at the end of the world with standards." Rachel Higginson Love and decay - volume one Ha! Hilarious.
Great plot, great writing, great characters. Throw in a little bit of romance, and I'm all in!
I fell in love with the wrong love interest. Oops.
Btw, I'm a HUGE zombie fan. I'm one of the people who loves things about the Z apocalypse. As the World Dies is my favorite series so far. I also like TWD. I pretty much love everything with zombies but not the necromancy type (whoever brings back the dead and controls them) or the zombie who can talk and live like a human (except Warm Bodies).
I stumbled upon Love and Decay a long time ago but only got to reading it just last month. It was good! The main character, Reagan, and her best friend, Haley, is trying to survive during the ZA. The beginning of them "shopping" and them kicking as was awesome. And then they meet the Parkers with this comical scene. The story behind the brothers were so cool and how hey handle themselves. Vaughan's my fave. ;)
One thing i disliked was the "piss-on-territory" attitude of the boys. Well, it is the end of the world but women are not things and I would rather they do the falling in love while things move along.
I read these episodes so quickly I didn't have the chance to write a review for each one. I really love the characters. Reagan is so freakin cool and Bad Ace!! I really wish I could see a little more flaws in Hendrix and Reagan. They both seem a little post-apocalyptic perfect. BUT, It is such a good girl alternative to the Zombie craze. I am totally down with it!
I was greatly surprised with how much I really enjoyed this!! It was funny, sweet, sad and kept me reading wanting to find out what happens next! This story has definitely kept me intrigued! Now off to read the next installment...
This compilation started out pretty good. But then things got a bit repetitive, and not just at the start of each new episode. I got tired of hearing about how the heroines are virgins and the boys are possessive cave men. I kind of skim read the last few episodes as my enjoyment level dropped.
Trashy romance set in a zombie apocalypse. The men are too perfect and the females stereotypical high schoolers. Reminds me a lot of Twilight but slightly better morales and a much better lead character. Easy read and I'll continue the series to see where it goes.
I got this ebook from Bookbub and it was definitely $0.99 well spent! Equal parts hilarious and serious, action packed and full of twists and turns. I found Reagan to be super relatable and likable. I can't wait to finish season 1 and see what happens next!
Love me some Zombies!!! Love and Decay sort of reminded me of The Walking Dead and Zombieland mixed together. I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical of reading this because some of the reviews were pretty harsh because of the character’s likeability. You have two young adult females that were best friends from before the zombie apocalypse that started with a vaccine (the vaccine piece is being played out). The girls have been going good for a couple years relying solely on each other. One fateful night, they find MASCARA! I know that this doesn’t seem like a big deal but sometimes, you miss those little things. Well, things don’t go as planned and while running from a zombie horde they get help from the Parker brothers. Some things are a bit predictable as the two groups join and work together. But while on their journey, we learn a ton about each character which gives all of them some depth. The author lets the characters still be “normal” people who haven’t lost their sense of humor or their passion for protecting the ones they love. Each episode is wrapped up nicely and kept me entertained. I would recommend this for teens and young adults.
I wouldn't think I would get into a zombie boo as much as I did with this one. It was very entertaining and kept you at the edge of your seat. Rachel put a lot of thought into her characters especially since they were all young adults with a sprinkling of children in between. I enjoyed reading about budding romances with some dangerous excursions thrown in. This made the book more appealing with all the different versions of communities being foisted upon our young adults. I can't wait to read volume two.
Another fun series, new to me author. Series starts out 2 years into Zompoc. Reagan and Haley have somehow managed to survive alone. But struggling daily. A chance meeting with the Parker family sets the rest of the story. They all go through stages of getting to know each other, protecting and saving each other. Haley and Reagan both have strong attraction to a brother. Reagan and Hendrix are a SLOOOOOW burn. Zombie action is well written, “realistic “ lol, and gritty. Little Parker sister Paige steals all the hearts. Liked this book a lot.
I never thought I'd be completely hooked on a book series about Zombies, but I can't get enough! I actually realized I was reading them out of order when I finished Revolution when I was looking for the continuation of the series and stumbled about this book. It was nice to go back and get to know some of the other characters better and to see how they all met up. I can't wait to rad Volume 2 next!
