I absolutely LOVED book one, Behind the Plaid by Eliza Knight so when I had a chance to read and review book two, Bared To The Laird I was bouncing for joy.
This is the perfect type of Scottish romance for me and I loved every moment. This story took place right were Behind The Plaid left off. In this book we saw Logan and Emma fall more deeply in love. They each held secrets of their own and I have to say Emma especially had a struggle when trying to tell Logan that she was from another time. Emma also was very curious wanting to know more about Logan and his secrets. At one point, Emma put herself in grave danger trying to get more information. Lucky for her, Logan found her and saved the day. There was also several villains running around causing dangerous things to occur. This worried Emma but drove Logan crazy trying to figure out just who was doing these things and doing his best to protect Emma and his clan from danger.
Logan is my favorite character of the series. I certainly love reading about a sexy and lusty kilt wearing alpha warrior who is very protective of what is his. As Logan's and Emma's feelings for each other grew, the loves scenes got hotter with each encounter. Logan was so tender yet very wicked when these two got together. They had a really hard time keeping their hands to themselves so If you like your romances to be erotic, then look no further because Eliza sure knows how to write a SCORCHING love scene.
As for the secrets these two were keeping from each other, I'm happy to say that they both finally opened up to each other. You could really feel the trust and love they shared for each other while they excepted and understood just what these secrets were. No misunderstandings here, I loved how honest they were with each other.
Near the end something happened that threaten to tear these two apart. We are left hanging as to how this will all play out, which left me desperately wanting more. Once again I'm happy to know that book three, Dark Side of the Laird will be released in December 2013 so I don't have too long of a wait. I will definitely be continuing this series and I HIGHLY recommend it to all of you who love to read an erotic Scottish romance series.
Special note - you must read the Highland Bound series in order: Book One ~ Behind The Plaid Book two ~ Bared To The Laird Book three and soon to be released ~ Dark Side of the Laird
* A copy of this book was gifted by the author for an honest review*
I'm not sure what I was expecting from this book, because honestly, the first one wasn't so great.
I guess I was thinking that it might get better. But in my own defense I have a nasty little habit of needinggggg to finish series once I start them. And I like to keep hope alive that maybe, just maybe, the point that the author was trying to make will become clear to me.
But, yeah...
First off, the sexy times, were not that sexy. But remember how Emma spent a good chunk of the last book having a bunch of maids remove her pubic hair with strategically dripped wax, so these are the characters that we're dealing with. There wasn't anything as uncomfortable as that in this volume, but nothing really happened here either.
Emma and Logan spend every free moment together, getting it on, but Logan is adamant that no one in the castle finds out, and is disturbed when several items of her clothing are shredded and left out for him to find.
Later Emma is personally threatened by these goons and is told to leave - she attempts to flee through a bunch of standing circle stones but Logan finds her first.
After that the king tells Logan that he has to marry Lady Isabella and Emma is, naturally, devastated, but that plot fizzles out pretty quickly when Emma confides to her that Logan has a sexual obsession with pigs.
The book ended with Emma and Logan attempting to flee together.
Maybe its just not my cup of tea, or maybe it felt a bit too much like Outlander fanfiction...
This is great continuation of the first book. Usually I don't like a book with no real ending but I love these book and can't wait to find out what happens and if the get HEA. This series did get a lot of negative ratings saying it was too erotic sensual with a lot of sex scenes but I'v found it a great story the first book had a lot of sexual tension but they didn't actually to anything till a lot later in book.
Note to Tantor Audio: Teach Arika Rapson the difference between a Scottish burr and an Irish brogue, and if you can't do that, let the male narrator do the male parts!
How many times can you read "my sex clenched"? This is the same problem the first book has. Too much repetitive, and gratuitous, sex. It could be a good story without them "dropping the kilt" (which wasn't invented in the 16th century) every chapter.
There is no such thing as a Scottish brogue! Irish brogue; Scottish burr. Huge difference.
This is the second book in the series. I like the charactors, but I felt the plot of this story needed more work. There were a few scenes that were actually cheesy. Emma did a few stupid things and I felt the author wasn't consistent with her personality. There seemed to be more sex than story at times. I will continue with next book because I do like Emma and Logan and want to see how their journey ends.
The 2nd part of Emma and Logan's story. I wonder why they try to keep their relationship quiet. It seems even the spies know they are in a relationship. I am wondering through all the trials they are going through, why don't they just get married already?
Good story, but got sick of the sex that Logan and Emma were constantly having. It overpowered the interesting story. I didn't see an "erotic" label on this, but I would make readers aware that it is.
tremendous sequel to the first book and Emma really comes to life and finds strength and faith in herself. waiting for book three to come in my queue from the library.
Emm and Logan continue their romance and Emma struggles with her situation. There are HOT scenes between them. I love the secondary characters as well!
I enjoy Highlander books and these are good, just not the greatest I’ve read. I’ll continue the series because I’m a sucker for a series of books and because I don’t hate these books.
I've been in a slump when it comes to my time-traveling romance choices. I have found the stories just seem silly to me. I am so glad I found the exception. I feel the author does a great at job in sucking the reader emotionally into the story. It is filled with well thought out characters, including a great alpha male lead, and a heroine trying to find herself as well as fit in with a foreign land and time. Sex scenes are not what I consider "over the top", but very well done. I usually stay away from series that revolve around one couple--but this is one of the few series I have enjoyed throughout both books I have read so far. It is very suspenseful--I can't wait to read the next and final installment to see what happens!
BARED TO THE LAIRD didn’t live up to the synopsis on the back, nor did it out perform book 1 and book 1 didn’t inspire great expectations.
For some reason the Laird is keeping his ‘tryst’ with Emma a secret so they aren’t together as much in this book as they were.
Emma for some reason wants to go home and she begins receiving threats which makes Logan continue to distance himself. When she receives a threat on Logan’s life if she doesn’t leave she in a circle trying to go home when Logan rescues her and a battle is fought amidst their reunion.
The big reveal of her being a time traveler goes down as the lamest yet as Logan isn’t even surprised.
Emma is settling into everyday life 500 years in the past at Gealach castle. Every day she is being drawn further and further under Logan's spell. Unfortunately for Logan, he doesn't get a say in who he marries, it's the Kings choice. What will happen when the king arrives for a visit and brings a betrothed with him? What will Logan do? Go with what he desires or what the king desires? This is the second book in the Highland Bound Trilogy. This story draws you in and you won't be able to put it down!!
Bared to the Laird was far improved over the first edition. Far more meat to the story in the 2nd book. Emma and Logan's relationship evolves beyond just passion into something more. The second half of the story actually starts getting good and then... it leaves the reader hanging, hooking us for the final book.
The audio is narrated similarly to the first book... Ferguson does an impeccable job speaking for the male characters and struggles with Emma's voice whilst Rapson does fairly well with both male and female voices. Enjoyable.
Congrats to Eliza Knight, what a wonderful job on the next part of the series about Emma and Logan erotic, heart stopping adventures. I can't wait for the final book to come out in December. I know I will be diving into that one as well
I loved this story and the mystery around the characters. Can not wait to read book three yet sorry to say goodbye to them as the story concludes in book three. Loved the history and romance.
