There is seriously a vampire named Humble John. Felix sucks (no pun intended). The kissing noises made me want to die. I believe that is all. Idk what I just listened to tbh. 90% of the voice acting sounded like breathy whispers. 4/10. Would not recommend. 8/10 ending though 👀👀. Wild smh. Unfortunately I will be listening to the next one. Bc I am weak 🥲
This season felt a little “middle book syndrome-y”. I don’t know that there will only be three seasons to complete this story but based off where things are at this stage it seems like there will be a third and final act to this story. I don’t think this was bad, it was still extremely entertaining, I just liked season one a touch more than this season.
We got lots of really great information. Several juicy plot twists were thrown in as well. The audio production quality was still top notch with great music and sound effects. The folks who put this together are experts at creating a perfectly flowing visual in your mind to go along with the production. If you liked season one of Impact Winter you definitely can’t sleep on this one!
My review for this would be the same as for the first season, where I describe it as The Walking Dead with vampires, seen here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
The third installment just released a couple of weeks ago, Impact Winter Season 3. I am off on an adventure!
The first impact winter was a surprisingly good time with great performances, well written characters, and good clean voice acting. This one is not. A bland meandering story which fails to go anywhere or summon even the most basic enthusiasm for it's own story and only exists to set up the third book, too many similar sounding characters, and writing which refuses to make the basic conceits of a purely audio format, meaning listeners will struggle with defining and understanding time, location, and even who's speaking and what they're doing, make this a massive misfire. Throw in sudden 11th hour (or in this case 11th chapter) BS twist and a terribly written and absolutely out of nowhere unearned final revelation to set up the third book and it makes the previous problems seem like nothing in comparison. Maybe the third book can save this series but as it stands I couldn't be more disappointed. Read the first one but give this a miss.
I'm just cruising through this cool post-apocalyptic vampire audio movie series and having a blast! Every new actor is great, the music fits perfectly, the story is engaging and unpredictable, the relationships feel genuine, the action thrilling, the atmosphere dark and dangerous.
I'm generally a huge fan of old and ancient vampires, and I think both the actors and writer has done a terrific job with making them feel authentic. What the vampires say, what they do and how they articulate themselves - from the less than 100 years old vampires, to 800 year old ones to the 1 600 year old ones. There are nuances in their tone and word choices befitting their level of experience and stature, and I appreciate that. It's a level of psychological craftmanship that can remind me of the vampires in one of my favorite vampire novels, Interview with the Vampire and my favorite TV show about vampires - "The Originals". It's slightly inferior simply due to the format, but still excellent.
Highly recommend! I've already started listening to season 3, so let's go!
🤣 I should have looked at my review for the 1st book. 🤣
- Great voice acting. - Sound effects were toned down. That was nice. Better balance on that. - But there's barely a plot and not enough character growth.
For an audiobook that's over 4 hours long, not much happens.
I've really been enjoying this series. I wish I had more time to devote to audiobooks. I will once school starts again but until then I can only listen to things here and there. But this series is great so on to book 3.
I liked the first one. I did. There was nothing wrong with it. It was just lacking for me in performances with some of the episodes and tough to hang on with.
BUT THIS SEASON! THIS SEASON WAS AMAZING!!! I LOVED IT!!!! The plot, the continuation of the growing relationships. The performances continued to become better and better.
The cliff hangers between episodes were so cruel, though!!! and then the deaths! The plot twist I never expected but should have!!!
Man, what a bummer. I quite enjoyed the first story—both because I’m a sucker for an audio drama and because it was genre comfort food—but the sequel barely did anything for me. It’s not even that long of a listen, but I had to force myself back to it because the storytelling was so inert. I like Beacham’s ideas and think he has a really solid grasp of genre, but I also think his imagination isn’t deep or original enough to sustain a trilogy. I get it; the middle of a story is challenging, and I want to be forgiving of how much meandering, idle place-setting this does for what I imagine will be the proper finale. But come on, you gotta give me something! There’s no real character growth, no sense of tension, and even the character deaths that should’ve been notable—because they were cool characters in the last one!—lack any bite because of how nonchalant and borderline disinterested the execution was.
The production quality remains solid, even if there are some questionable choices made (i.e., for the love of god do not make me listen to kissing sounds), and the voice cast is decent to actually quite good. Special shoutout to Ralph Ineson, who chews through every line with more gusto and tonal self-awareness than the character deserves. I’ll probably show up for Chapter 3, despite it all, because the “twist” at the end—which was so obvious for so long I was just glad to have it over with, honestly—is cool enough in theory that I want to see if they’ll actually commit to it.
Lydia kinda ruined this one for me. First, she sounds just like Hope, so when they flirt and make out, it's a bit weird. Second, she's just awful -- way worse than a teenager with PTSD in a post-apocalyptic world has the right to be.
I enjoyed season 1 more, but this was still very entertaining! The production was again top-notch and made it feel like I was right there with the characters. Looking forward to season 3!!
Having been completely captivated by the first season of Impact Winter, I approached season 2 with sky-high expectations. While it doesn't quite reach the dizzying heights of its predecessor, it still delivers a compelling continuation of the vampire apocalypse saga.
The story picks up after a modest time jump, finding our core characters in dramatically different positions. Hope and Penelope have stepped into enforcement roles at their sanctuary, whilst Darcy and Felix have carved out a life within an abandoned blood harvesting colony. The narrative follows familiar beats from season one – perhaps a bit too familiar at times – with relationship drama taking centre stage early on. Though this emotional groundwork eventually pays dividends, it does temporarily stall the momentum built up by season one's explosive finale. Where this season truly shines is in its latter half, delivering some genuinely shocking twists that left me reeling. That said, the biggest revelation raises some thorny questions about the timeline of the comet's impact that I'm hoping future instalments will address. The season ends on a massive cliffhanger – which I typically find frustrating – but the clear setup for the next season helps soften that blow.
The worldbuilding continues to impress, with fascinating new details about vampirism and the post-apocalyptic society emerging throughout the season. These additions to the lore hint at even richer storytelling possibilities ahead.
The production values remain top-notch, though I found myself slightly less enthused about some of the new voice performances. Still, the full cast delivers solid work across the board, and the audio drama format continues to prove itself as an incredibly effective medium for this story. The sound design feels more balanced this time around – whilst action sequences retain their visceral impact, the overall mix seems more even-handed than in season one. I found it perfect for listening to it while working on other things , though the intricate sound design still demands more attention than your average audiobook.
For those new to the series, this isn't an audiobook in the traditional sense, but rather a fully-produced audio drama with episodes running 20-25 minutes each. It's a format that works wonderfully for this material, though listeners who favour traditional narration might need some time to adjust. Despite some minor pacing issues and a somewhat frustrating cliffhanger, Impact Winter Season 2 remains a gripping addition to the series. Whilst it may not quite match the revelatory impact of season one, it successfully expands the world and deepens its characters while setting up what promises to be an explosive next chapter. Fans of the original will find plenty to love here, and the high production values continue to set a standard for what's possible in audio drama.
Verdict: A strong 4 out of 5 stars – Impact Winter Season 2 proves this series still has plenty of bite
3.75⭐️🎧 I initially liked this instalment more than the first, but the ending was a choice haha, not sure how I feel about it and where the story is supposed to go from here. I didn't really feel like the characters developed much. I was pleasantly surprised by the sapphic romance though! And the audiobook is still very well done. I learned that the 4th and final season isn't out yet so I'll probably pause here and revisit later.
Still a really great audio production!! I feel like I’m sitting in the same room with everyone and listening to them talk. Some of the sounds in here are creepy AF! I didn’t like the direction they went with Darcy in this book but I’m anxious to see what comes about in the third book that was just released! Also is there hope!? Or is it Hope!?🤔
Not as gripping as season 1, but a few interesting character developments and twists and turns. Definitely looking forward to listening to the concluding season.
Again, I loved this. Only thing to point out is that there’s more narration in this one. I’m already half way through the third season, as I’m binge listening 😄

Wirklich sehr toll gemacht. Es macht definitiv Lust auf mehr. :)
I wasn't sure how much I really remembered the first installment of this series - it's been over a year since I first listened. I gave it a relisten and was glad I did, as while it was familiar, I wasn't sure how much was in my mind without the refresher.
I'll admit, I was listening here while I was a bit distracted. I had no kindle text to turn to, which I try to do when I'm struggling at all with an audiobook. It's a little harder than normal audio, trying to determine who is speaking - you have to memorize the voices. In the first book, Hope and Whisper were the only young girls (and their voices were easy to tell apart). This one adds Lydia, and I sometimes lost track of if it was Hope or Lydia (and there were times it was the two of them talking).
While the story kept me interested enough - I'm not sure if I could actually give a summary. What all happened? I got a little lost.
I was rushing to get this in, included in AudiblePlus, before my annual plan was ending.
Finally! I've been waiting to listen to season 2 of Impact Winter since I originally finished season 1. My husband and daughter loved season 1 as well and told me I couldn't listen to season 2 without them. Well, I've been waiting, and waiting, and waiting for them to make time to listen to me, and I gave up. I finished it in just 4 days, just listening to it in the mornings before starting work. I wasn't disappointed with the performance in season 2, but I will say that season 1 was much, much better. I didn't like the ending very much, but I won't spoil that for you. Just know that it was worth listening to Darcy and Hope again, picking up where they left off in season 1. I loved listening to both seasons in Dolby Atmos with my Soundcore 3 Pro earbuds, I could close my eyes and feel like I was really there, hovering over them, seeing, and feeling, everything going on. This is for mature audiences, but it's not overly explicit, in my opinion. I've read some reviews where they mention "the kiss" and to be honest, it didn't bother me at all, although I did chuckle a bit over the sound effects. Enjoy the performance, you won't regret it!
