Midnight Breed #12

Crave the Night

Rate this book
With the acclaimed Midnight Breed series, New York Times bestselling author Lara Adrian has written thrilling novels of electrifying romance and heart-pounding suspense—page-turners in which humans and vampires live tenuously side by side. In Crave the Night, Adrian brings the Breed and its world to the brink of war, where even the deepest passion can shatter into violence.

Born and raised to be an emotionless killing machine, Nathan is one of the most lethal Breed vampires in existence. A key member of the Order—an elite group of warriors charged with protecting both mortals and vampires—Nathan executes each mission with flawless precision and a total lack of mercy. Now he must pursue a powerful, hidden enemy. But Nathan’s hard discipline and training are no match for the fierce pull he feels toward a young woman he has no right to desire—a woman of wealth and high social standing who has long been promised to another Breed male, and who may also prove to be the key to rooting out Nathan’s elusive quarry.

Jordana lives a life of glittering privilege as a member of a prominent Breed family in Boston. Surrounded by fine things and fawning admirers, Jordana wants for nothing—until she crosses paths with a dark, intense warrior from the Order and finds herself swept into an impulsive, sizzling kiss that neither of them will forget. As much as she tries to deny her deep feelings for Nathan, Jordana cannot resist the craving to be near him, to break through his forbidding walls and see the man he truly is. But getting close to Nathan will thrust Jordana into a treacherous new world, forcing her to risk all she has and all she knows about herself and her past. And loving this seductive man could be the most dangerous temptation of all.

I am so a Midnight breed fan girl. This book is one of my 4 favorites in this series! Nathan takes his place along side Lucan and Gabrielle, Tegan and Elise, and Hunter and Corinne. (I just realized all my favs are gen ones!) In this book we get to see an all grown up sexy Nathan (Corinne's son and Hunter's step son). Stolen from his mother as a baby and turned into a emotionless killing machine. He was saved by his mother and her mate when he was a young teen but he never truly healed. He was a cold detached person who didn't like to be touched, but his whole world was turned upside down when he got a surprise kiss from Jordana.

 photo nathan2_zps84fc138a.jpg

Nathan: was the sexy Damaged bad boy. A total alpha male and 100% bad ass! I love that you get to see him begin to heal. To see him learn to love and trust and learn to enjoy being touched.

 photo jordana_zpsd6abce4a.jpg

Jordana: was a young woman coming into her own learning what and who she wants to be. She had a quite strength. She was sweet and loving but brave and fought for what was important to her. She didn't just roll over and die.

 photo nathanandjordana_zps80c87e33.jpg

I really enjoyed their relationship. How they strengthen each other. There was also lots of steamy sex. New plot twist that I am sure we will hear more about in the next book.

Here is a few of my fav quotes:

"You're a dark, dangerous storm, Nathan," She tilted her head back, her glacial blue eyes arresting, even in the darkness of the club. "If i'm not careful I'm going to leap off a cliff with you."

"yeah, maybe I should make you scream for me," he uttered against her skin. "I want every male in this building to know that you belong to me. Only me."

"Until I say otherwise, we're still on my terms, Miss Gates," he warned her, his voice rough and thick with promise. "Don't think I'm finished with you yet."

"I shouldn't be your first. Then again, I don't think I've got honor enough to stand aside and let you give yourself to anyone else. Not now." "I want this," she whispered resolutely. "I want you."

"Jordana, I don't matter. I want you to go- "Dammit, Nathan, don't you realize that I love you?"

"Don't think I'm offering this out of duty or anything half as noble. You know I'm a selfish bastard who demands things go his way. I don't settle for anything less than what I want. And what I want right now, forever, is you." His eyes glowed bright with tender emotion. He held her face in his hands, searching her gaze with an intensity that made her blood heat beneath her skin. "I'm offering my bond because I love you. Because I need you, Jordana, and I don't want to know what life without you will feel like ever again."

I can't wait for the next book !!!!!!!

Nathan finally found love, and it was wonderful!!!

His greenish blue eyes were steady and unblinking beneath the military-short cut of his jet black hair.

This book moved the series forward in ways that I felt were lacking in the last few installments. It did for the series what I thought Edge of Dawn would do...it introduced a lot of characters more in depth and really delved into the gist of this new direction for the Midnight Breed series.

Nathan is a Gen One male, and I've always had a soft spot for those poor boys since we met Hunter a few books back. Nathan has been with the Order for awhile now, so he has a few social skills but at his core, he's still a little standoffish and somewhat of a loner. Jordana is a pampered rich girl with a good heart and despite the spontaneous (and smoking hot) kiss she laid on him, Nathan disregards her very existence. Until he continues to run into her in the most unlikely places.

The chemistry between these two is palpable, and their futile fight against their feelings hardly worth the effort. For me, it was the last half of the book that was really fast paced and exciting. I thought that the little twist might be a possibility, but it was great that it played out like I assumed it would. Boy, is the next book wide open for all kinds of new characters and settings, not to mention new villains.

By far my favorite Breeds series probably since Jenna and Brock's book, Taken by Midnight. I think hardcore fans will continue to be pleased, and those like me that have become a little skeptical of the direction will have a renewed interest after reading this book.

4.5 Hot Alpha Male Stars

She was stepping off that ledge tonight, falling too fast.
Falling too hard for a lethal, untouchable Breed male who'd promised her nothing.
She knew this, the same way she understood that if reality waited for her at the bottom of this mad leap, it was certain to break her.

12 books into a series, and Lara Adrian is still going strong. This was another fantastic addition in the Midnight Breed series and seems to just get better for me. If you've been following the series, than just like me you have been itching to finally get the story for Nathan who we first meet as the long lost son of Corinne who was raised as a Hunter until his rescue at 13 in Deeper Than Midnight.
He was the fighting dog, rescued from the squalor and violence of the betting puts and brought into a kind, loving home to live a better life.

Knowing what his childhood was like and seeing his seemingly cold and hard exterior, you just knew that the man's book will be good. And the best part? It wasn't just good. It was better.
He chased.
He conquered.
He destroyed.

This is man that's been honed to be a killer. He was bred to be unfeeling and cold, feeling never even coming into the mix for him...until a beautiful blonde changed everything with a simple kiss...
He fed and fucked because he had to, but he did it on his terms. Always under his strict control, in order to retain the edge of the honed, unfeeling weapon he'd been born and raised, mercilessly trained to be.
Jordana Gates had broken all of his rules.

Even though Jordana first comes off like a very demure heroine, she's not at all what she seems to be. I love that every heroine in this series is fierce in their own right, and this definitely comes out in the story in one hell of a twist.
Among the action and twists and turns that are on constant in this book, in the center is the love story between a man that's been bred not to feel and a woman that's determined to bring out his lost humanity.
Jordana Gates was off limits for many reasons, but most of all this: Because she was pure. She was innocent.
He wouldn't be the one to take that from her.
He couldn't take that from anyone, not the way his hungers ran.

There was never a dull moment throughout the entire story and I couldn't bring myself to put it down. While all the old characters are back, we also get a little bit more on the new ones. While I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the series being taken into the future and the previous characters' kids coming into the mix, I'm certainly sold on it now. It was a super smooth transition and I'm just as interested in the new characters as I was in the old....especially Rune and Carys who I'm hoping will get a book next.

But of course, my favorite part of this book was the building romance between Nathan and Jordana.
When I'm near him, it's as though I'm standing naked in the middle of a raging storm. He makes me feel as if I'm on the steepest cliff, about to lose my footing. That if I step too close to him, I might never get back on solid ground.

And then there was the scorching hot sex...

This book had everything. I love the twist and the new additions of The Atlanteans into the mix. This was and continues to be one of my favorite PNR series, and I cannot wait to see what Lara Adrian has in store for us next.
She'd captivated him with a kiss. She'd challenged him, gentled him. Now she owned him.

NOOOOOOO. It's the "Phury" book of the series. I knew there was going to have to be one, but why did it have to be Nathan's book? *cry*

Back to that in a minute. First : an apology for lying to you all. I actually did mean it when I thought I was going to put the series on hold for a minute. But every time I tried to read something else, a nagging feeling kept coming back to remind me that I was almost done with the currently in-print books of this series. So I came returned to finish these off.

Alright, back to the Phury-ness of Nathan's book. For those not familiar with Black Dagger Brotherhood...Phury is a well-loved character from that series whose book was highly anticipated. When his book came out, fans got a little pissy after reading it, mainly because they felt like his character kind of got the shaft in his own book.

THIS is how I felt about Nathan's book. There was so much focus on Jordana's new place in this series that Nathan's entire story was pushed to the wayside. This is a character who was raised from a baby to be a killer. He was given virtually no affection or contact with loving people until he was a teenager. On top of this, his book came after a 20 year gap between the time he was found and the present day, yet we'd gotten to learn absolutely NOTHING about how he'd adjusted to the world after being released from his prison.

Instead, the story was mainly about Jordana learning how she was different from the rest of the breedmates. We hadn't even known much about Jordana prior to the most recent book, so the emotional investment was not there for me the way that it was for Nathan. I yearned (yes, yearned. Don't judge me.) to know how "the real world" shaped Nathan into becoming the man he was today. I was surprised to see him being so functional. Sure, he had more years of love than Hunter (his stepfather - also raised the same way) had. Maybe the love of his mom, Corinne, helped him grow into a functional man. BUT, I honestly believe that a person like Nathan would have to be dealing with PTSD or serious anxiety issues which might make him shut down. He was far too well-adjusted to normalcy, imo.

Also...where were best friends Kellan and Mira? Nathan is hanging out with Jordana's bestie Carys, but Kellan and Mira were pushed to the background?

My feelings about how badly the ball was dropped on showing Nathan's character development make me want to 1 star this book. But I liked the story itself, so I can't do it.

And we got to meet Zael, who I'm already a teensy, tiny bit in love with. So there's that.

(preview for book 13 : All is not lost. I haven't reviewed it yet, but I REALLY liked book 13. So yay for that, at least. additional note : you might see some additional shelvings as the series continue, now that some new characters and timelines are coming into play.)

I enjoy coming back to this series and getting a dose of paranormal through the Midnight Breed. I really like that I was able to get the audiobook for this story because reading time has been cut down lately, so listening still allows me to get my reading fix. With that said, this is going to be a short review.

Nathan was taken as a baby and brought up as a Hunter, a cold hearted killer taught not to feel mercy or compassion. He was later rescued when he was thirteen. Now all grown up he still appears to not have any feelings. He does only what he was trained for, but that quickly changes when he meets Jordana Gates. A single kiss starts the slow crumbling of those walls he built and feelings begin to seep in the more he is around her.

Jordana is a breedmate raised as part of the aristocratic society. Even though Jordana has been promised to her father's friend, she can't deny her feelings for Nathan nor can he deny his feelings for her. A kiss from her sparks the chemistry between them and begins their story. As Nathan and Jordana keep crossing paths it becomes impossible to deny their attraction turned into craving for one another.

I loved watching Jordana slowly break down Nathan's walls. With impending trouble heading for Jordana, it's up to Nathan go keep her safe. I didn't see the big reveal about Jordana coming. There is lots of new information about her and her last that is revealed and we get to meet Zael, an Atlantean warrior. I hope we see him again in the future.

For the fans of the Midnight Breed series who haven't read this book yet, it was another fantastic read. I worry sometimes that a series that goes on for more than ten books can become boring, but that's not the case with this one. It leaves me wanting to pick up the next book in the series right away. If you like PNR, give this series a chance.

This is book #12 in the Midnight Breed series and I still love this series! It has been awhile since I have visited the paranormal genre but dang it...I sure have missed parts of it! I forgot how passionate and erotic vampires can be! LOL The fireworks between Nathan and Jordana was nothing short of amazingly hot and I got butterflies reading their encounters! I love that Lara Adrian has taken this series to a new level with the new generation of Breed Males and new villians as well. It has a freshness to it; and yet we still get to see glimpses of our beloved characters from the first several books. Some authors take a huge risk in carrying on a series too long and it becomes stale and blah...That is so not the case with this series, and I am for sure hooked on seeing where Ms. Adrian will take us next! I am very happy that I chose this as my Halloween-ish themed read to be festive! LOL I enjoyed it so much I am going to read the next story in this exciting series!!

5 Huge Gen One Warrior Stars!!!!

This series gets better and better with each new Breed book!! And this next generation is FABULOUS ! I really loved Mira & Kellan's book "Edge of Dawn" but this book was even better!!!!!!

Nathan is the son of Corinne and step son of Hunter. Nathan was created by Dragos as an assassin (as was Hunter) but was found & saved by Corinne and Hunter when he was 13 yrs old, he grew up in The Orders compound and is now one of The Orders most deadly warriors and as a Gen One Warrior he is lethal.

Nathan is a killing machine. He's dark, cold, and unfeeling.....until Jordana kisses him. He does all he can to avoid her as he feels unworthy and unloveable. He's a killer not the least bit civilized, which he's positive Jordana needs and deserves.

"She was innocent. He wouldn't be the one to take that from her. He couldn't take that from anyone, not the way his hungers ran."

 photo PicsArt_1406069905493_zpsoz8thbrd.jpg

Jordana is a Breedmate, she's had a privileged upbringing and is betrothed to a civilian chosen and approved by her father, too bad she only feels a platonic friendship towards him. Nathan on the other hand.....ever since that first impulsive kiss she surprised both of them with, he's under her skin and she cannot get him out of her thoughts. As Jordana approaches her 25th birthday, she feels different and sort of disconnected as she has yet to discover her Breedmate gift, she is feeling separated and just off…...

As Nathan finally gives into his impulses and takes Jordana...and let me just say "WOW" ....holy smokes Nathan is friggin smokin' HOT!!!! He immediately feels regret and attempts to distance himself....Until Jordana is kidnapped, then all his formidable fury is unleashed and he won't be stopped till he finds HIS Breedmate.

What a fantastic addition to the series, there a few surprises and an interesting addition to the storyline directly involving Jordana. I'm not sure which Warrior will be featured in the next book but it doesn't matter....I CAN'T WAIT FOR MORE!!!!

That’s me….so excited that this series continues to be more than just enjoyable. Having doubts how the author would take the Midnight Breed world next….but I needn’t worry…because…
 photo it-gets-better_zpsid5847sc.gif
This is book #12 in the Midnight Breed series and it’s now time for Nathan’s story.

A Gen One first generation Breed, bred and raised as a hunter and trained to be a killer without emotions or feelings from birth by the now deceased Dragos, he was rescued by his mother and her mate, Hunter and has since been living with his family and with the Order
 photo nathan-lara-adrian_zpssmbtwydp.jpg

Now leader of one of the Order squads whose duty is to protect breeds and humans alike, he’s a cold and emotionless and dangerous killer, who has kept his feelings buried deep inside him.
But having Jordana Gates, a beautiful Darkhaven socialite
 photo hair-color-ideas-pinterest_zpsgepjh49q.jpg
and friend of Carys Chase, daughter of Tavia and Sterling Chase, and sharing an unforgettable and passion kiss, makes him feel and wanting things he never thought possible.

They have nothing in common except for the sexual chemistry that draws them to each other. She’s feeling unsure where her life is going….her father keeps pushing her to marry a suitable male of his choosing but there’s something lacking in her life.
 photo 944358_zpsdx1rvyjt.jpg

Nathan believes that she’s too good a person for someone like him and tries to keep his feelings for her to go any further.
But Jordana sees the real person inside of Nathan….
 photo 10725235_zpsxlezitd7.jpg

I liked the way their relationship develops over a period of time and it was lovely seeing Nathan’s emotional walls slowly eroding as they get to know each other. It felt real and believable that they were meant to be together.

Beneath Jordana’s innocence and warmth, lies a strength that was able to understand the control Nathan needed in their relationship.

New revelations, new threats like the Atlantiens ….new characters and of course known characters we have grown to love through the series.

I can’t wait for the next installment!!!!!

Breed warrior Nathan
Special ability: Sonokinetic, Using sounds as weapons, Gen one breed
Age: 33 years old

Breed mate Jordana
Special ability: Not known
Occupation: Collections curator in Arts museum
Mark place: Inside of left wrist

Settings: Boston, Amalfi, coast of Italy

Everything started with a kiss. When Jordana and Nathan kissed for first time, their worlds collided. The logical, unemotional Nathan's world was demolished. At the same time, Jordana's perfect life took a turn to the wild side of reality and she started realising what she really wanted.

In this book we discover that Nathan is not as innocent as we thought and Jordana is more innocent than we imagined.

We learned about Nathan in "Deeper than midnight". He was created by Dragos to be an assassin and he was saved at the tender age of 13 by his mother Corrine and Hunter. He never had a normal childhood and that made him remorse and without feelings. Nathan, Kellan and Mira were best friends, they trained together and later they joined the order.

Jordana is a wealthy, cultural and beautiful beyond compare young woman. She is also almost engaged.

You could not find two more different people and this is what makes their pairing so right.

There are also a great number of things happening in the book besides the love story.
Towards the end we realise:
Jordana is not what we think
Jordana's father is not what we think
The world is not what we think
....And the breed world becomes more complicated.

We meet also Zael and the Atlanteans and they will make a number of full force, dynamic appearences.

I just finished my ReRead 2/24/21 and enjoyed it more than my 1st read.

Crave The Night (Midnight Breed, #12) by Lara Adrian is a Paranormal Suspense Adult Romance. The action and suspense could have been more intense. The search for Cassian Gray and any leads on Opus Nostrum seemed to lack urgency. There are some exciting scenes in the suspense, but they could have been more convincing.
The interactions between Nathan and Jordana are fierce. You can feel their attraction to each other vibrate off the pages. Their romantic encounters are spicy, sensual and very erotic. Jordana's true identity is a nice twist.
The writing is smooth and flows well and I did enjoy it.

So the series is going on after all. Well, seeing how the previus book is going, the children are all grown up and ready to have their books. But let me say this. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?! Now this is my huge vote on the series should have stopped at Chase's book. Then if we are going to start reading the future and the kids come into play, a new series should start. It is like a whole new ball game here people. I will most likely read the books (won't be to much in a hurry to get it from the library), but I will not like how it's being continued from the same series only 20 years into the future. A star has just been knocked down for the future books to come becuase this is a new game but not a new series. If there are those that is cool with this, that is fine, but not by me.

As a long standing fan of the Midnight Breed series, I was disappointed by Crave The Night. Not, because it’s not action packed and sexy, because it is. But, because it’s too predictable.

It’s an instalove story. There is no scene or conversation between Nathan or Jordana that made me feel as if they were falling in love. It’s all lust and animal magnetism. It’s all long looks across rooms and heated eyes. These two characters don’t know each other. Sure, they want sex, but they don’t actually know if they like each other. All of a sudden there’s talk of dying to save the other and it’s like, huh? What has happened to meld this intense bond of emotion? Nothing that I read.

Another reason it’s predictable is that Nathan is just another damaged hero. I have to admit that I’m a little ticked by this. Because, I read a Deeper than Midnight. I saw all of what Corinne went through to get her son back. Ok, he was 12 or 13 when he was saved from Dragos’ lair, but if this book is to believed the next 20 years meant nothing. Nathan doesn’t like to be touched. There’s a scene where Jordana tends his injuries and he’s all never has anyone done this for me….You mean to tell me that Corinne never hugged her boy, never healed his injuries, never wiped his sweat or tears?!

When Nathan becomes all obsessed with Jordana and they notice, Lucan asks Hunter his advice and Hunter is all, “he’s our son, but he’s already a man when he came to us…” So, I wasted all my time with Deeper than Midnight, because they never actually saved him. He was physically free and that was enough for his parents cuz at 12 he was already a man and after risking their lives for him they just let him skulk alone without touch or affection? Bull! Consider the fact that every member of the Order has physical, emotional or mental trauma of their own. Consider the fact that his own adoptive father, Hunter, went through the same exact thing and for much longer! Why would Nathan be that damaged! Why did they not help him? Why didn’t he speak to a shrink, etc? Nathan’s state of being in this book is disrespectful to fans of Deeper than Midnight.

One thing that Crave the Night does really well is tease about what’s to come. We learn about the Orders new enemies and their power. We now know why the Atlantean’s hate the Breed and their long history of war. Still, this book could have used a bit more. In the other series we knew Dragos. We were in his head and understood his plans. This installment basically has a faceless villain and I feel this was the authors chance to really introduce us to the bad guys.

As a fan of the series, I will always enjoy glimpses of the old couples and seeing their children as adults who live in the world we experienced their parents work so hard to build. I also think that Ms. Adrian is a fun writer who makes her books entertaining no matter what. Still, I found myself disappointed by this book.

This was one of the best Midnight Breed books so far for me. I admit that I don't remember much of the series so that's telling all of each own.

We have...

-A badass male lead.
-A protected but badass-to-be female protagonist.
-Immortal baddies with a grudge.
-A group of Immortal warrior vampires(which we all know is sexy as hell).
-We also have insta-love but I blame some kind of fate shit and get over it.

Disclosure time: This used to be one of my favourite series back in the day, when I used to love reading paranormal romance.

Unfortunately lately I've become a little tired of the characters and plots' predictability. Truth is, we more or less know what is going to happen by the end of this type of story. And there's nothing wrong with that: I have numerous bookshelves filled with such books to prove it!

It is just that some books we love, others not so much...

You may even say that it's a case of: It's not you, book. It's me.

I'm afraid that I still haven't become captivated by this new Breed generation.

So far I'm finding them boring. All these guys _minus some different colouring _could be clones of one another...

I can't help but remember that while I was reading Chase's book the plot seemed to be taking a more urban fantasy orientation. Which I loved!

Unfortunately with these last two books (in this new series) things have returned to the "normal" paranormal romance... path.

For me, I have to say that since the book leans so heavily on the romantic component, I am afraid but I didn't find the relationship between Nathan and Jordana very exciting.

She kisses him, the guy gets obsessed with her...

She becomes obsessed with him.

.yada..yada..yada

....

LOVE!

The mystery was okay, I guess. Towards the end, with mentions of Queen Selene and Endymion, and missing crystals, I couldn't help thinking about:

SAILOR MOON!

Which probably wasn't the intended idea... but have I told you guys HOW MUCH I LOVE Sailor Moon??

Then there was the whole Atlantean thing *sigh* that made me think about Acheron and all the other Sherrilyn Kenyon characters... o_O

At least Acheron has Simi!!
Simi, barbecue sauce and demon hoofs ;)

The whole abused/tortured hero is also quite overdone in our time and age, along with the mate and "mine" thing.

So I am sorry to say this, but not all that remarkable, I'm afraid.

On the other hand it made me want to read some of the previous books! Like Dante and Tess's book! :)

That's a good thing, right?

If I don't count a novella Marked by Midnight, the last full length book I've read from this series was Edge of Dawn and it was four years ago! So, the occasional info dump here was appreciated. That has to be the first time.

I still find the world of Midnight Breed interesting. Crave the Night was an okay story with a solid story and some very annoying things. It takes place only three days after the events in Edge of Dawn, where a new enemy of the Breeds and humans is introduced. That plays a very important role here.
The Order is looking for a man who is believed to know more about that new threat. Despite him being placed at odds with the Order, you get this feeling that he isn't as bad.

Even though I can't distinguish Nathan from any other male character of his type (brooding, tortured, dangerous and so on), I still liked him. What? I don't have to have a reason! Jordana Gates couldn't be more perfect even if she tried. I lost count how many times we are told how perfect, pure, beautiful, special she is. Did I say she is pure? What about beautiful? These two act like teenagers.

The things that messed up this story for me the most are a couple of unintentionally hilarious descriptions (scents swamping one's nose, heroine's roar and such), the constant reminders how pure Jordana is and the soap opera cheese-fest in the end. Everyone and their mother was present! The only moment I liked there was between Nathan and his mother.

Still, I have to appreciate this book for what it does - Edge of Dawn introduced the new enemy, this one moves the main plot forward and introduces some new, interesting characters.
Overall, I did like it in a way, flaws and all.

Crave The Night is the twelfth installment in Lara Adrian's paranormal romance series titled: Midnight Breed. This is the first time I have read a book by Ms. Adrian and it is the first book I have read in this particular series. As noted on a fellow goodreads member's review, each book in this series can apparently be read as a standalone novel despite its series setup, so that's what I did. This new release was available at my library and I grabbed it. Plus, it was recommended on a literary map for fans of Karen Marie Moning (FYI: I am in fact an enthusiastic fan!).

After reading, I have to agree and disagree with the "each installment can be read as a standalone" assessment. I agree because it was evident that the main characters' personal romance was new and fresh; however, it was also evident that there was some overall backstory I was unaware of that left me feeling a bit uninvolved in the first approximate thirty percent of the book. Obviously, when the romance began, it felt like a fresh experience so that was good. Once finishing the book, I felt knowledgable about the world and rules this series is based on, so that also was a plus and may support the "standalone" recommendation.

Overall, I liked this book. It was far from a Karen Marie Moning experience in my opinion, but it was a good paranormal romance. I felt connected to the characters and even felt my heartstrings tug a little at their personal struggles. However, I did have some eyeroll moments at the writing within the heavy romance scenes and how the romance flowed in general. I mean, how many times can the story of the damaged, control-hungry man and the fragile virgin be told? And "sexy" phrases like, "Your petals are so swollen and ripe" weren't sexy to me...they just distracted me from the moment (however, I have to admit I've read scenes in other books that had me busting out laughing so this really wasn't bad at all LOL).

There are positives and negatives in all books depending on the reader's perspective, and despite any negatives written in this review, I am in fact interested in checking out other books in this series and would recommend this series to fellow fans of vampire romances. Please note that my rating may very well have been higher if I had read this series in order as my excitement would likely have grown for the characters and the world in general, and I may have felt more invested overall. So with that in mind (and based only on my personal reading experience), I would encourage new readers to read this series in order.

Looking back on these books, my favourite characters were Dante and Hunter, I loved their stories just a bit more than the rest and now... well now I'm looking at Rafe and Nathan, Rafe is Dante's son and Nathan is Hunter's step-son and so far, Nathan has renewed my faith in this series, a series I loved above all others and it eventually settled alongside a few other series that I adore... Having said that, when Lucan and the Order settled back so to speak and the children came forward, I didn't like the change and I worried that the series would end for me - and along comes Nathan...

Nathan, a Gen One with a sordid past that was rescued by his mother with the help of Hunter, also a Gen One. Nathan is the Captain of his team and as rigid as his past moulded him to be until Jordanna throws him a ruthless kiss and storms into his life...

What I love LOVE LOVE about this story is the unexpected twist that shocked me and then carried on shocking me until the end... Something I never prepared myself for...

It's a story of grappling with feelings, coming together and living through what is left to be. A Breed book to the core with as much excitement as previous books and I absolutely loved it. The storyline is obviously building up towards something really bad and I can imagine an all out war is on the cards...

Jordanna, she has a past that she doesn't know about and is the adopted daughter of a very rich Darkhaven Vampire, but there is more to her story than what anyone knows... She could be the key to something big in future books!

I am so happy to have my faith renewed in this series, I love Nathan and Jordanna, their story has left me needing so much more and I can't wait to read about Rath and the rest of the team.

From Netgalley

I hate giving a book in this series anything less than 5 stars but for me Crave The Night wasn't an amazing book. It had a few of my pet-peeves .
Although it wasn't my favorite in the series , still it was an interesting and enjoyable read .

I really enjoyed the first half of the book unfortunately it went downhill for me from there.

BDSM didn't have any place in this book it felt forced and just page filler or maybe just to follow the trend?!Not sure . Nathan problems with being touched didn't make sense to me. Why would the hardship he suffered during the first 13 years of his life result in his condition ?! I couldn't get it. For a few chapters I thought I was reading Fifty shades ,it had all the elements , BDSM, the virgin , touch sensitive guy...

And then there was the tidbit about how he was tortured .

Now to the good parts , I really enjoyed the twists and turns in this book , I couldn't guess what's going to happen which is always a plus for me.
We got know more about Atlanteans and I was really looking forward to knowing more .

I hope this is not the end of this series ,I'd love to see where Lara Adrian is taking this series.

It took me a while to warm up to this book. I have made no secret of the fact that I am not a fan of D/s themes; in fact, I actively avoid them. Unless, of course, there is no indication in the blurb that it’s going to be in the book. Guess what? All that tortured hero angst I was looking forward to from our steely Nathan, manifests itself –wait for it– by an overwhelming need to dominate and an inability to accept a loving touch. (*Le sigh*)

Nathan has no plans to ever surrender to tender emotion. But when Jordanna laid a kiss on him back in the last book, she created a tie between them that neither can ignore. She is the perfect daughter of a nearby Darkhaven; practically engaged to a clean-cut male of high social standing. But nothing can keep her and Nathan from acting on the desire they have for one another.

I love a good forbidden romance, but the first half of this book was tough for me to push through. I did not enjoy the way Nathan treated Jordanna at all. I didn’t like the way he talked to her. I didn’t like the ultimatums. I didn’t like the fact that he restrained her and refused to let her touch him. These were all big turnoffs. Add to that, the fact that I didn’t feel emotion from these two. There was a sexual attraction, to be sure, but love just kind of appeared. I kept reading, though, hoping it would get better.

Thankfully, it really did, but not until about the last third of the book. That is when the larger story arc started kicking in. In the background of the romance, we had some interesting Order business surrounding the La Notte club and its mysterious owner, Cassian. When this storyline came to the foreground and became incorporated with the romantic leads, the book rallied. I can’t say that Cass’s identity was a surprise, but that didn’t take away from my enjoyment of how it played out. Jordanna’s secret WAS a surprise, however. That Lara Adrian can still shake things up this way makes me want to give the next book a go. This, despite the fact that the last two romances thoroughly disappointed me.

I actually want to read a Carys/ Rune book. But I want it to start in flashback, so I can see how they got together. Can this please happen? I think that would be super hot. I need this series to return to the kind of romances that made me swoon for the heroes, not make me want to punch them in the ‘nads. Remember Rio? Those were good times. The new main story arc is set up to be as good as the Dragos one was. Now the romances just need to get in line.

Rating: C/C+

I am going to admit I have never read a book from Lara Adrian and I am sorry that I have missed out on her books. But no more- I plan to devour the books in this series and anything else Ms. Adrian writes. Jordana and Nathan are from completely different sides of society. She is privileged and from a prominent Breed family and he is one of the most lethal Breed vampires in existence, he is from an elite group of warriors charged with protecting both mortals and vampires.

Nathan is a super hot, sexy alpha male that does his best to fight his attraction toward Jordana. The more he fights the hotter their attraction becomes. Jordana is capable of taking care of herself but keeps finding herself in danger. Of course, Nathan is always around because of his warrior job.

Jordana has been attracted to Nathan for a long time. She would do just about anything to get him to notice her. When he finally does, the sheets are set on fire (and the elevator, desk, couch, etc..) and he does the typical alpha male claiming routine. Super hot!!!

Nathan is not an easy sell, he has some major issues from the past that he has not worked through and is carrying around with him. He is forced to acknowledge them when the relationship and danger heat up.

I absolutely loved how the suspense unfolded in the story. There were some deep dark secrets that were discovered that threatened to cause disastrous consequences. The storyline kept me on the edge of my seat.

Crave the Night was another enjoyable read in this long running series. I loved Nathan. Although it has been over 20 years since his rescue the coldness and not allowing himself emotional closeness has never left him, until Jordana. I thought she was perfect for him, her innocence and her caring ways are exactly what he needed. I'm also loving the direction of this series with the Atlanteans.

Crave the Night
4 Stars

Crave the Night continues the reboot of the series with the focus shifting to the second generation of Breed warriors. In the aftermath of the thwarted attack against the peace summit, the Order searches for information on their newest enemy, the Atlanteans. Squad leader, Nathan (son of Corinne in book #9) finds himself in an unthinkable position as his attraction to beautiful yet innocent Jordana Gates threatens his ability to concentrate on his mission.

This installment hits all of the marks that the previous book fizzled on. In addition to the compelling developments in the story arc with its surprising twists and turns, Jordana and Nathan's forbidden romance has all of the chemistry and intensity missing from Mira and Kellen's story.

The traumas of his past have turned Nathan into a cold and emotionless warrior determined to keep his distance from a woman he perceives as delicate and unattainable. But beneath Jordana's seemingly fragile facade lies a woman with a core of solid steel who is more than a match for Nathan's stoicism. There interactions of sizzling hot and their emotional intimacy is reminiscent of the pairings from some of the earlier books.

Details are also provided on several secondary characters, including the enigmatic cage fighter, Rune, and his feisty lover, Carys, whose romance is far from acceptable to her twin. It will be interesting to see where Adrian takes this in the next book - should be exciting to say the least.

Nothing beats good writing and that is what ultimately makes Lara Adrian stand out amongst her peers. In the twelfth book of the Midnight Breed series, Adrian takes an emotionless Breed warrior named Nathan and pairs him with a kind-hearted socialite named Jordana Gates. As a warrior, Nathan wishes to keep his distance from Jordana’s delicate world. However, when a fiery kiss ignites a consuming passion he has never felt for anyone before, Nathan finds resisting Jordana to be a losing battle.

Adrian doesn’t hold back with the intensity or the passion. The sexual tension between Nathan and Jordana is off the charts and sizzles each of the pages. While slow-burning in its intensity at the beginning, Adrian really shows off her writing skill in a series of twists that will surely make reader’s head spin. I was baffled and pleasantly surprised to see such detail and planning work out in the end. It’s clear that Adrian had a formulated plan going into this book and seeing it unravel effortlessly and flawlessly really showcases her talent as a writer and storyteller. It reminds me of why I started reading Lara Adrian’s books in the first place. Even twelve books into the series, there is still a clear path in which the author wishes to go and as a reader, I’m definitely on board with that ride!

CRAVE THE NIGHT is stunning in its flawless execution. Lara Adrian has the rare ability to lure readers right into her books, taking them on a ride they will never forget.

The Midnight Breed books are by far my favorite vampire paranormal romance series. With Adrian flashing forward twenty years with the events at the end of Darker After Midnight she has allowed her readers to keep up with their favorite past couples by now reading their adult children. Nathan is the grown child we first met in Deeper Than Midnight. He is a grown man now and a squad captain within the Order.
Knowing Nathan’s origins you know he is going to have some damage. Yes he did some growing up within the loving home of Corinne and Hunter, but he came to them after he was trained to be a Hunter. I’m sure spending twenty years within the family of the Order has helped him heal some, he still has some rough edges and those made him all the more sexy. All of this made him an even better match for Jordana. She has been raised among the elite with all of its fineries. She is the polar opposite of Nathan in every single way possible.
Sadly I guessed where some of Crave the Night was going. There were not any indicators that the events would go this way. I guess I just drew a logical conclusion that the tie in had to come from somewhere. That being said Jordana turned out to be a far more fascinating character than she could have been. That girl has got a mess of secrets that she doesn’t even know about. Secrets that put her in harms way. These secrets will keep Nathan in her life protecting what he has deemed his. Sexy stuff there!
Everything about this series is just made of all that is awesome. I love the spin that Adrian has put on her brand of vampires. I like their origins and the complexities of their world. I’m beyond intrigued by where she is going with the Atlantean’s. As always with this series I absolutely cannot wait to get my hands on the next book.

Like some of my friends that have read this book, I enjoyed the story and agree that the couple did the smouldering look across a crowded room but didn't actually interact. It was a shame really, could of been a 5 star book but it lacked a connection between the H/h, other than the sexual one.

Enjoyed the little cameos of previous H/h couples.

Will continue reading the series.

Ok I have to start by saying I love this series about the Breed and their breed mates and have followed all these stories avidly. It's a series that has seen vampires living amongst humans secretly but these are truly otherworldly creatures as these vampires are descended from ancient alien warriors. It's been an incredible journey as the Warriors of the breed have fought with those amongst their own race who seek to achieve world domination and finally humans are aware of their existence. Events twenty years ago thrust the breed into the spotlight and now they work alongside humans to protect both Breed and Human alike but there will always be those who seek to annihilate that which they fear and there's none so fearsome as these tough Warriors!
Nathan is first generation Breed and as such has immense power and strength. His life has been filled with pain as he was abused as a child in an effort to make him the perfect killing machine. Saved by his mother Corinne and her mate Hunter now Nathan has taken his place as a bringer of justice but will still deliver death when it's called for. Dragos may have been defeated but there's still those that seek to cause civil unrest and it would appear that the owner of an underground fight club might know more than he's telling but he has gone missing and with him the answers that Nathan and the rest of the Breed need .
Jordana recently met the sexy but aloof Nathan and to distract him gave him a kiss but it was a kiss that rocked her world . Now he's all she can think about but as he is connected to her best friend things are a bit tricky. Nathan is clearly interested in Jordana but he keeps pushing her away. This hard male may be a trained assassin but he is no match for a determined woman and Jordana is very determined to explore what's between them! The attraction between them is off the charts but Nathan has a job to do and cannot afford the distraction that Jordana brings. The world of the Breed is a dangerous place though and soon Jordana is slap bang in the middle of it!
I was very concerned that this book might feel a little too new adult for my tastes as it features the children of those I have previously read about. I really enjoy the passionate encounters that this author puts her characters through so you can well understand my feelings of unease . There is one scene where the guys horse around but that's the only thing that didn't feel as mature as previous stories and indeed this is a very sexy grown up read indeed. What elevates this story is the very dominant Nathan, sigh! . He is most definitely all man and will have you licking your lips! This is not BDSM but his need to control sets the page alight and it's a hot steamy ride! The heroine Jordana is no wimpy character either and when she decides to go for it then she really does. I liked that she was decisive and I loved that she could show Nathan that tenderness is not to be feared. I do like a strong woman in these books.
The storyline is being expanded with this book and I've always thought the alien angle worked very well to explain the existence of the Breed so be prepared to embrace even more of that idea as this story progresses . More secrets are revealed with this book although I think one was quite easy to guess but nevertheless I'm so relieved that this series will continue and can't wait to read what happens next.
