Read a Scottish or Medieval Historical Romance book by Kara Griffin and transport yourself to the mystical enchanting realms of the Scottish Highlands and Medieval Britain. Stories of noble swoon-worthy warriors and strong but sweet heroines will have you rooting for them as they encounter dastardly villains, political upheaval, and family dysfunction. Be romanced with sweeping tales of love and honor.
Kara Griffin has always had a vivid imagination and has been an avid romance reader since her early years. Inspired by her grandfather’s heritage, she loves all things Scottish. From the captivating land to the ancient mysticism, all inspire her to write tales that make you sigh. With heroes, heroines, villains, and romance, there’s always a Happily-Ever-After in her stories.
When Kara is not writing, she enjoys family life with her husband of 34 years, daughters, and five grandchildren. Living in the Pinelands of New Jersey, she spends a lot of time at a nearby lake, the Jersey Shore, and wooded areas of the Pine Barrons. She and her family are huge sports fans and cheer on the teams of the city of Philadelphia.
Honestly, I was a little disappointed with this one. I love guys in kilts. I love medieval romances. I love heroes who are tortured by guilt from their past. This book had all of that. Sadly, our hero, Kenneth, just didn't work for me. He was immediately smitten with our heroine, Elisa, and even stepped up to marry her for her protection. That was great! But then, Kenneth continuously forgot about her. He commanded her to stay in their cottage (she was in danger), and he'd go off to get her some food and he wouldn't come back. He forgot about her when they made it back to his clan's land. He forgot about her when readying for war....to the point where she had been gone for several days before he thought to see where she was. He was just plain old inconsiderate. I didn't get that he loved her.
Elisa on the other hand, was a good heroine. She was strong and kind and followed through with what she felt she had to do. Her bravery astounded me.
My disappointment in this won't stop me from trying something else by this author. In fact, I'd love to read the next book, which is Sean's. He was an interesting guy in here.
Domhnall raided the home of Elisa MacQuarrie, killed her family and took her. King Alexander request Laird Grey Gonna and his guardsmen to go to Domhnall keep and retrieve the lass. Upon seeing her and learning her identity Laird Gunna takes her back to his home to protect her and seems she must wed a Gunna guardsman. Kenneth McInnish refuses to be Laird to his clan and has Meade himself a Gunna clansman even if not by blood when Grey decides she must wed he is to happy that it Sean who was picked but the lass and Sean don't get along and he decides to wed her. Haunted by the death of his brother and hate by his father he has no choice but to face his home and duty in order to protect his wife. Good book
ON A HIGHLAND HILL by Kara Griffin is an exciting Scottish Medieval Historical Romance set in 1215 Scotland. WOW! Holly Highlander! Those Highland Hills will capture your heart and soul not to mention the men. Fast paced and passion filled. Meet Kenneth McInnish, guardsman for the powerful Gunn Clan and Elisa. Reluctantly Kenneth marries Elisa, who was stolen by his clan from the King. A very tender albeit passionate story of grief, the powerful need of a Scotsman to protect what is his, a bit of danger, facing your demons, and finding happiness. From the first kiss to the last, Kenneth knows he is lost, for Elisa is his soul and the savior of his heart. Elisa will do anything to protect Kenneth and his clan, but things go awry. Oh yeah a bit of trickery was involved in Kenneth's marriage to the sly, but sweet Elisa. A must read story with engaging characters and an intriguing storyline. This was my first read by this author and my first in this series, but I do plan to go back and read the....rest of the story or the beginning of the Gunn Guardsmen story! Well done indeed! There is not a lot of guts and gore in this Highland story but lots of love, passion, a bit of trickery, and a bit of danger. Received for an honest review from the publisher and Net Galley.

I received an ARC from NetGally of On a Highland Hill.
I thoroughly enjoyed On a Highland Hill by Kara Griffin and look forward to more of her books. On a Highland Hill had me laughing, ready to smack a few of the characters at times and ready to cry along with them. I loved Kara's two main characters, Elisa and Kenneth. They had an instant connection and their bantering had me laughing throughout the book. Elisa is a strong willed, stubborn and feisty lass who was taken from her family at a young age. She believed she was betrothed to the man who took her but later learns all that truly unfolded that day. Kenneth is a strong, fierce and handsome Highland warrior who carries the burden of the past with him at all times. He will not allow anyone close and quickly learns that he must let go of his burdens in order to truly love and let himself be loved by the woman who stole his heart. On a Highland Hill is full of love, action and adventure. It is humorous and will pull at your heart strings. I loved Kara's writing and all of her characters. I truly hope there will be more books following this one and we learn more about the lives of the Gunn and McInnish clans. Thank you Ms. Griffin for a wonderful highland adventure.
Kenneth is Laird of the McInnish Clan due to his brothers death. His guilt is ruining his life and his ability to return home to take charge of his clan. That is until he rescues and marries Elisa from the clutches of a man who is bent on having his brother become King. The battle not only wages on the field but in the bedroom when Kenneth must learn to give his wife his heart and soul.
Excellent writing and plot. I loved the characters in this book. Even the antagonists! The way the author twisted the personalities and spun them into likable characters was fantastic. I also love a book that is easy to follow. When a reader goes from one chapter to the next they want to be able to know exactly where they are in the book and this one did just that.
The plot was well done but very predictable. When it comes to love stories we all need and want a happy ending but the in-between needs some unexpected challenges. This did not take away from me enjoying this novel.
I really enjoyed this little book, I couldn't put it down, I'd finished it in a day. On a Highland Hill is a medieval romance set in 1215 Scotland. Kenneth McInnish is a guardsman for the a very powerful clan called Gunn, and there is Elsa, a beautiful young woman, stubborn, compassionate and feisty, she disappeared from her clan at a young age. When she is discovered living with a another clan, she is abducted by Kenneth and then forced to marry him for her own protection. Kenneth is strong and handsome, but not really ready to be a husband, It doesn't take Elsa long however to become apart off his life, and passion flairs between them. This book had a great storyline, with humour, action, intrigue and of cause a tender romance. I will be reading more work by Kara Griffin for sure.
A complimentary copy was provided by the publisher for an honest review.
In the thirteenth century, life is harsh in the Scottish Highlands. Both peasants and those of exalted birth believe in witchcraft and clairvoyance. Clain raids leave entire families dead.
Elisa of Clan MacQuarrie isn't sure if she's being rescued or landing into deeper trouble. The only way to save herself is to marry a member of the Gunn Clan.
Kenneth McInnish is a guardsman for the powerful Gunn Clan. Elisa becomes his responsibility. With vying factions scrabbling for a parchment known to Elisa's family, can he keep her safe?
Kara Griffin's On A Highland Hill (Gunn Guardsmen) is a wonderful historical romance. The book reflects a depth of research and insight into a long ago time and land.
I liked this book. As Highlander books go this was a rather tame read. That's good as blood and guts wears one out after awhile. Poor Kenneth. He is still mourning his dead brother. He is now Laird of their clan but as his father always put him down he refuses to claim the title. Elisa has lost her family and is held captive until her captor gets the letter that accuses him of treason. Kenneth is part of the group to recapture her and take her to Clan Gunn. The only way to save her is to marry her to the clan. Neither wants to marry. The King gets involved and the bad guys come to take her back. There were enough side stories to keep the attention level high for reading. Well done Kara!
I received this from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I so wanted to love this but I just couldn't fall in love with the characters. The story was pretty good but the characters just about drove me crazy. Kenneth, just did not make any sense to me. He was second in command for a long time but yet he did not know how to stand up and be a Laird? He was really wishy washy and that just did not mesh with him getting into fights all the time. The heroine was a weakly at some point but strong at others. I do not know how to describe it other than to say the author contradicted herself a lot during the book.
I'm glad I finished this book. I have to admit, the first couple of chapters didn't impress me. I found it a little hard to get into the book, the characters, and the story. I decided to stick with it, because I hate not finishing a book.
I'm glad I did. The story picked up pace, the characters started making sense and I got pulled in. I finished this book in one go (except making a couple cups of tea). This is one of the better highland books I read, and I look forward to reading more by this author.
I just didn't see this as others did. Maybe I have different standards but I found it dull, almost to the point of boring. No good battles, a good amount of incorrect speech for the time period and too many unbelievable situations. The many spelling errors and misuse of words was off putting. Some were funny, like 'rouges' roaming the territory instead of rogues, but most were annoying. This is the second book I've read in the series and from this author and probably won't be reading more. I need my stories to have more substance and development.
I enjoyed this more than most Highland romances. The plot was better thought out with fewer holes and stupid stuff than is often found in this genre. I found the characters rather likeable. One thing that made me nuts was that the heroine needed to be kept hidden in an isolated cottage, forbidden for her safety to leave without escort, but then everybody kept forgetting about feeding her. Couldn't they have left her some supplies? Reading this book left me feeling very hungry.
This was such a page turner for me. Kenneth "Gibb" McInnish has such a tormented soul because of all that has happened in his past. Elisa McQuairre has such a big heart even though she has been dealt such a difficult hand. Of course Destiny works its magic and their story takes place. I recommend this book, and hope to read the next book in this series.
Its been a long time since I've read a Scottish Medieval Historical Romance, remembering great reads, I thought to give tjis one a go but unfortunately this was not one of them - quite disappointing actually.
I enjoyed this lovely highland romance. I loved Kenneth and Elisa. They were both very good people who were caught up in a web of treachery and deceit. This story had a strong plot with plenty of romance and excitement. Just an enjoyable read.
