So, what's a girl to do? Without her mom to go to relationship advice, Liza turns to the only person she can truly trust with matters of the heart via her mother's copy of COMPLETED WORKS OF JANE AUSTEN.

What Would Jane Austen Do? That is what dreamer, Eliza Johnson asks herself when she's in the middle of high school life and first love angst. I thought the story was fresh and cute, loads of teenage angsty, but had some good depth as well.

At first, I was under the mistaken impression that Finding Mr. Darcy was a modern young adult P&P retelling, but its not. Oh, it is a whole lot of Austen loving and particularly P&P since that's Eliza's favorite. However, really, its a coming of age story for an awkward, confused, and average teenager who still struggles with the death of her mother, girlfriends, high school bullies, and figuring out who she is.

Because she hasn't quite figured out herself, Eliza also can't figure out guys. She is drawn to Ryan Wick, but no matter that he gets her, likes her as she is, and makes her feel comfortable, he's her BFF's ex so is taboo. Then there is Will Drake, the handsome, popular, and wealthy new kid at school that her best friend Janie wants her to like and she does. How could she help, but not fall a little for this Darcy incarnate? Oh, but then there is devilish Ben with his British accent...

I enjoyed the book, but also struggled with it. My one niggle is that at times the transitions were rough and the plot felt a little loose- maybe like an early writing effort would? Also, I had a hard time with Eliza and Janey's 'I am the center of the world' typical for that age attitudes. Eliza hurt her dad with her words and behavior several times just like Janey did with her mom. Neither girl actually apologized for this even when they seemed to realize what they were doing. And the switching around of guys and gals there at the end gave me whiplash. I know, I know... they're teens, but still...

Side note, this book has been revised and retitled as Jane Austen is My BFF so its possible things I noticed as bothersome have been tightened and smoothed in the new edition.

So, in summary, this was fun, a little bittersweet at times, but in the end a heartwarming story. Definitely one for Jane Austen fans who can handle the teen scene and like coming of age stories.

Opening Lines

"The phone rang again and I immediately thought of Janie. My heart popped up through my throat and caught on a breath. She was here though, right next to me. Safe Her face still red and covered in dried, crusty tears."

I'm a huge Pride & Prejudice fan, actually I'm a huge fan of Jane Austen and Pride & Prejudice is my favourite novels by her! So when I caught sight of this blog tour I just HAD to sign up, a modern-day spin on her work? Genius! I think my overall take on Finding Mr. Darcy would have been different if I went into this realizing that it wouldn't be focused on just P&P. With the characters names, synopsis, and title I wasn't expecting it to pull different aspects from her other works. This added a unique take but I found it at times to be a little confusing to follow where the plot was going.

Finding Mr. Darcy is told through from a dual-narration from Liza and Janie. This was a great idea since it allows readers to see the overall story from two different perspectives. However, at times I felt there were too many different things happening that for me personally it took away from the romance. Janie's chapters seemed to of focused on a different plot which was really interesting but I felt was too short and slightly rushed. I would have liked to have seen her story really develop a bit more since I had a hard time trying to connect to her character.

Now the romance itself didn't really play out the way I thought it would. As in, once I realized this wouldn't turn out like P&P I was able to pick up on how this would end. I won't spoil it for anyone, but personally I'm not a huge fan of who Liza and Janie ended up with. I was rooting for certain characters to be together and it just didn't happen!!

Overall, Finding Mr. Darcy was well written, a rather cute and humorous read! Erin Butler has a great and descriptive writing style that really helped bring this story along. I look forward to reading more of her work.

Meet Eliza Bennett , she is obsessed with the Austen Life from the books especially Pride and Prejudice to the customs and rules from Austen's time to the romance and the love. In the past Eliza aka Liza has been the best friend of Janie Lucas who gets all the guys she wants, but this year it seems that it is finally Eliza's year to be the center of attention but will being the center of attention cause her to become a different person or will she keep her Austen personality and realise that being herself is all that matters and the right one isn't always her version of Mr. Darcy ? During this novel , Eliza has her pick of three guys - there is newcomer Will who is the version of Mr. Darcy and is the perfect guy that she should be falling for. Then there is Ryan Wick who is her best friend Janie's ex-boyfriend and someone who seems to go through girlfriends like socks. His character reminded me a bit of Mr. Wickham and Janie in a way reminded me of a Lydia character as she has on the side an internet chat-room relationship with a guy named Jimmy and right through the book , all I can keep thinking is that he is a creepy old dude and not what he says. The third guy is Ben - when Eliza wins a trip to England and visit the home of Everything Austen - she meets Ben a tour guide and has a holiday fling with him. Though when it comes to the crunch , Eliza starts to wonder if there really is a Mr. Darcy out there for any of us and whether he does really exist ?

Finding Mr. Darcy is the perfect read for anyone who loves Austen Renditions and what I loved about this book was that it didn't just focus on Pride and Prejudice but a mixture of all of Jane Austen's books.

When I began reading this, I was looking forward to reading a modern book with ties back to Jane Austen's beloved book. And by in large, this is what I found. Thankfully, the book has no intimate scenes, and the profanity is fairly mild (but not necessary in a young adult novel). For the high school girl who wants a bit of a sappy romance with "Pride and Prejudice" references, this may very well be the book for you. The book comes across as authentic in its genre, and I believe the target age is around 14-17.

The strength of the book's authenticity to its genre is actually what made this a bit of a difficult read for me at times. I struggled to connect with the female high schoolers in the book because I am far-removed and never was like that. Sometimes the way in which the story vacillates between the various points of view, but that is just a stylistic preference. For me, the book did not deliver as strongly as I wanted, but again, I am not a teenage girl.

In short, if you prefer young adult romances with ties to the classics, this is the book for you. It is an easy-to-read book, and possibly high school girls will connect with the characters.

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

My Thoughts
This teen themed trip through Austenland might best be described as Austen-lite.
While there are several Autenesque nods. (Names, references, quotes.)
This tale does a pretty good job of maintaining its very current, very present day, and very teenaged angst drama persona.
That being said...
The the waffling back and forth between Will and Ryan can be a bit grating on the old nerves after a moment.

All in all, this is a very fun and light not to Miss Austen, and a good reader for the younger teen.
Though female lead Liza's back story is one that lends itself to establishing an emotional connection between herself and the reader; there is not enough true grit there to stand against the frivolity of later situations.

This is easily a one sitting read, at a modest 200+ pages. Making it the perfect way to spend an afternoon or evening.

I'm all for different and twisty retellings of Jane Austen's books, and I love that the message in this book was all about embracing who you are, but Liza was a little too out there for me, and while I loved Will, he just wasn't enough to keep me interested in the story. DNF at 22%.

Loved how this story intermingles and mentions Jane Austen's six novels characters and themes in this YA story of romance.

It was very fun to tagalong on the main character's tour through London that included Jane Austen sights and an evening ball.

Urgh, I though this would be a light read last night while I don’t have internet but this was a waste of the 2.99$ I spent on Kindle, I had to force myself to finish it. The author lost me after the first few pages.

I'll be honest here and say that I've never read any of Jane Austen's books or seen the movies. Admittedly, I'm not a huge fan of classics at all. *hides from all the Jane Austen/classics fans* Anyway, even though I only know the main details of Pride and Prejudice I really enjoyed Finding Mr. Darcy.

The Plot: Who needs boys when fictional characters like Mr. Darcy exist? Certainly not Liza Johnson. Liza's role model is Jane Austen and she's pretty much obsessed with her. Her real life best friend, Janie, doesn't understand her love for this century old author but tolerates it anyway...sort of. Now enter Will. He's the new student, the talk of the school, and just maybe, the perfect Mr. Darcy. However, her budding relationship with Will gets muddled after the addition of Janie's ex boyfriend and a fling during her trip to England suddenly, Liza is uncertain if "Mr. Darcy" is truly for her.
One of my favorite parts of this book were the connections between Jane Austen's works and Liza's love for them. She's the definition of a true fangirl. She's read Pride and Prejudice so many times that she can directly quote it and she sports Jane Austen shirts on a daily biases. I honestly didn't like any of the characters very much, but I really enjoyed the plot and its rendition of the original novel.

The Characters: Liza. I fairly liked Liza's character...most of the time. Sometimes she made decisions that really frustrated me. Including the fact that she couldn't choose between three different guys. Don't worry, I'll get into this more later. Overall I felt like she was somewhat of a bland character, but I definitely liked her more than Janie. Janie is Liza's best friend and for the most part she was a pretty good friend. The thing that bothered me though was her lack of common sense! Janie is going through a tough time due to some family matters and she meets a guy online who provides her an outlet to rant about everything. Now keep in mind that this is a stranger whom Janie has never met, seen, or talked to before. This is the number one rule of safety internet! You do not talk to strangers and you certainly don't offer to meet them! This is the reason for my dislike of Janie. I understand that her best friend was off having fun in England while she was suffering at home, but seriously, the guy could have killed her! *sighs in frustration* Anyhow, moving on to Will and Ryan aka the love interests. Yes, there is a slight love triangle (square?) in this book. But more on that later. I actually liked Will. He was really nice and understanding of everything and I rooted for him and Liza. Then there's Ryan. I didn't like Ryan very much in the beginning. I had a theory about what was going to happen between him, Will, and Liza and I was right on some accounts but mostly wrong. Ryan and Liza have undeniable chemistry together, even though he's her best friend's ex-boyfriend. And after all, Will is her perfect Mr. Darcy. Or is he? This brings me to the romance in the novel.

The Romance: It's finally time to get into the romance! So from the blurb above there's a hint of a love triangle in this novel and there kind of is. It doesn't completely drive plot, but the romance is a main factor. I mentioned a maybe love square earlier in my review, because when Liza goes to England she meets Ben who seems to be interested in her, keep in mind he's also a cute British guy. The reason Liza went to England in the first place was because her school selected her and Will as the winners of a writing contest and the prize was a trip to England that also includes a visit Jane Austen's house. Her fling with Ben didn't bother me as much because it was just that, a fling. But while she and Will were kind of a "thing", she would always revert back to thinking about Ryan. At this point I really just wanted to yell at her to pick a guy! Her revelation of which guy she truly liked happened pretty suddenly and kind of out of nowhere, but I liked who she ended up with.

In the end, the characters and romance of Finding Mr. Darcy weren't outstanding, but I still fairly enjoyed it. The plot was more unique and the main reason why I enjoyed this book so much. Finding Mr. Darcy is a cute, fun rendition of Jane Austen's novel, perfect for lovers of contemporary romance.

Review:

Finding Mr. Darcy is for sure on of those Young Adult stories that Jane Austen fans have to read. Not only for the promise to bring some of Jane Austen' drama to a modern high school, but because these readers might get Liza better than anyone. It is indeed a good story about finding the right person.

This story is told from Liza's point of view and Janie's. At first, we meet the characters in high school, leaving Liza and Janie not in the popular ranking at all. We get to know Liza, who is a Jane Austen fan in big letters: wearing her t-shirts and speaking like a character Jane's novels. And then Janie who's a good friend and, to me, a teenager who's interested in boys and acts as a normal teenager in those ages.

When Liza gets to go to England, she does not go alone. Will, the new kid at school and her possible Mr. Darcy, goes to and she gets the chance to explore with boys, see all England has to offer and live an experience all Jane Austen's fans would love to life. All these scenes were perfectly written and it exuded a romantic style that only a novel from Jane Austen can achieve. It is a completely experience to read through Liza's eyes all they do in England and I think this is what fans are going to love most about this book aside from other aspects in the story.

What truly shocked me is that, for the attitude, I thought I would feel more identified with Liza and like her more than Janie due to all his love for romance and Jane Austen. But as the story progresses, I found myself liking more Janie 'cause she shows how good a friend can be and I truly enjoyed her chapters. She was the most realistic character.
Moreover, Liza is in this stage in adolescence of trying to find the right person and there are two boys that have the potential to end up being her happily ever after. I'm excluding one, Ben, because I knew this character was only there to make the others jealous.

Few stories get to surprise readers and for some readers, Finding Mr. Darcy kind be one of those. Not only the authors leads us to experience two potential relationships with a perfect, romantic and Austen-esque ending, but leads us to experience what is like to find the right person. Not the person you have thought would be your prince charming, but the person who you are comfortable with and you do not have to work extra hard to keep the relationship alive.

Full of romance, teenage drama and friendship, Finding Mr. Darcy was a good and cute read.

Finding Mr. Darcy is a younger feeling YA story that will appeal to people who enjoy Jane Austen and a heroine has to kiss many frogs to find her prince kind of story. There are guys galore at this high school. And Liza seems to be jumping all over the place. She wasn't really, but there are three...count them three love "interests" in this book. Finding Mr. Darcy: High School Edition was a cute read and I was pleased with the way things turned out. I did have some character issues with the book but the Jane Austen aspect of the story and the writing were wonderful.

Liza starts out as kind of a loner with her best friend Janie. I really liked Liza and Janie both at the start of the story. Liza was kooky with her Jane Austen t-shirts and proper way of speaking. She was endearing. She lost a little bit of that appeal to me throughout the story with the way she was ping ponging back and forth between the guys and how she wouldn't tell Will how she felt. She is young though and at times she acted immaturely, like someone her age is prone to do.

Janie is a good friend. She was jealous at times, but I thought considering everything she was remarkably loyal. I think I liked Janie most of all. Will, Ben and Ryan are the guys in this book. Let's just cut Ben out of the equation because I don't think anyone will actually put him as a front runner, but Will and Ryan had me going back and forth quite a bit. There are ups and downs with all of the characters throughout the story and you feel like you are thrown into a Jane Austen inspire high school soap opera. Or maybe the Jane Austen contemporary version of the vampire diaries or something.

I did enjoy the way Erin Butler wrapped everything up. I think Liza ended up with the best guy for her, but it was almost too much at times for her to figure it out. I enjoyed the story, but I think it would appeal most to a younger YA crowd. The Jane Austen aspect of the story was by far my favorite. I loved Liza's trip to England and I loved all of the Austen inspired assignments and balls that they had. This made me want to dive back into Pride and Prejudice. I'm glad that Liza had a few epiphany growth moments about herself and how she was acting towards the end of the story as well, they redeemed her in my eyes. Finding Mr. Darcy might not have been my favorite book of 2014, but it was a good read. One that I think fans of Ms. Austen and a girl just trying to find her way in high school might really enjoy.

Eliza’s mother passed away a few years back from an automobile accident. As a way of connecting with the mother she lost she picks up her mother’s obsession with Jane Austen’s novels. This obsession kind of makes her an outcast but she’s got her best friend Janie, and Janie is all she needs. But the worlds about to shift.

Theres a new kid and he kind of digs Eliza even after hearing her bag on him. They become pretty good friends. Especially after it is announced that Eliza and Will (the new kid) will be traveling to England for 2 weeks where they will tour famous literary places including Austen’s home. Now up until this point Eliza hasn’t had any male suitors. Now they are coming out of the woodwork! Because not only does Will like her but Janie’s ex boyfriend Ryan is hitting on her big time and not like the skeevy way. He’s actually kind of sweet. Which infuriates Janie, I mean obviously hello! Girl code!

Of course the trip to England is amazing. Eliza and Will get closer but there’s also another guy who is interested in our little Eliza. Ben is the tour guide and really he shouldnt be mingling with the “Ambassadors” but it’s happening. Basically your head is spinning with all these guys pining over Eliza. And really it isn’t until the very end that we find out who she ends up with.. If any at all. And I was totally happy with her choice!

The story was fun and fresh. Though it wasnt “action packed” I was totally hooked and really sat and read a HUGE chunk of it in one sitting. Like I said before I was kept guessing who she would end up with I’m pretty sure Eliza herself didn’t know. She was a fun little character, and she felt real to me. I really tried to put myself in her shoes and goodness I don’t know what I would’ve done in her situation. To go from ZERO prospects to 3. Mistakes are bound to be made and there are and that’s just what I love. Flaws, I love a flawed character.

I was a bit thrown off with Janie’s every now and then POV and really there’s a big question mark regarding one night which I can’t divulge Id really like to understand what exactly happened. Sure she got dealt some not so great cards here after all her ex is trying to hook up with her best friend but that’s not all not by a landslide.

This book really was wonderful! I look forward to reading more from Butler and wonder is there going to be a College Edition? Whether your like myself and havent read Austen or you have I think anyone who enjoys a good amount of finding yourself and sweet clean romances will enjoy this book. It really took me back to a time of innocence.

I received Finding Mr. Darcy: High School Edition in return for an honest review as part of the tour hosted by YA Bound. Liza is obsessed with Jane Austin particularly Pride & Prejudice which she gets from her mom. She even has her mother’s copy of the complete Jane Austen works. With a new guy in school her best friend is determined that one of them will be the one. While her best friend is focused on the new guy Liza still has a thing for her ex-boyfriend Ryan who is off limits. When Liza is caught sneaking around with Ryan her friend Will (The new guy) claims he’s using her as a Friend with Benefits causing Liza to break it off.

When Liza learns that her teachers have entered her into a contest to visit England and all things Jane Austin she’s thrilled to learn she’s won. Only she won’t be going to her dream trip alone, Will the new guy is going too. While Liza is torn about her feelings for Ryan she heads off on her dream trip with Will not expecting anything to happen but things suddenly change. And when she makes new friends with a local guy what’s Liza to do. She’s gone from being the nerdy JA girl to having all the guys’ attention. Who will capture her heart and be her Mr. Darcy? After that’s always what she’s been looking for her Mr. Darcy just like the book.

I loved Liza right from the start we have a lot in common like we both lost our mom to car accidents, and love Jane Austin books. She’s one of those characters who’s innocent and naïve in the beginning but grows thoughout the book. I liked Janie even though the way tried to manipulate Will into liking Liza frustrated me a bit. Both the guys each have their own positives Ryan and Will but in the end I think she’ picked the right one and it worked out in the end.

I’m a huge fan of re-tellings of Jane Austin books and have read several of them over the years but this is my favorite so far. The author does a fantastic job taking the old concept and putting her own unique twists on a classic story. I think all of us girls are secretly searching for our own Mr. Darcy till the right guy who comes along even if he isn’t a perfect Mr. Darcy he’s right for us. I loved Liza her story was entertaining and a great coming of age story. This is my first book by the author but I’m curious to check out her other books. After reading the novel I feel the need to watch the Pride & Prejudice BBC version again. I may just have to find a copy it’s been ages. A must read for Jane Austin fans as well as people who haven’t read the JA books it may be a perfect bridge to the classics.

At first I had put this book aside because I was going through one of those book mourning periods and I just could not read anything other than the book I had just finished. Usually it takes me awhile before I move on to another read but I knew that I had to get this done and it was going to happen. Surprisingly I finished the whole book in one sitting!

Finding Mr. Darcy is the type of book that has just enough cute and tender compelling moments that you feel as if you have to finish right then and there. I will admit that I have yet to read any of Jane Austen's books and I felt like a disgusting cheater while out main character Liza raved about Jane and I had no clue what was going on. Sure I heard of Pride & Prejudice (I even seen part of the newish movie) and the other books but never gave me own time to try and read any of them.

I adored going through Eliza's head and enjoying her love for the Austen classics. Also her using all of Jane's books/characters to help her throughout life lessons and her love life had me aching to read one of or any of Austen's novels.

As we read on in the book, Liza's best friend, Janie, usually is the one to get the attention from guys and Liza is hardly ever glanced at. However this year seems to be the year for Liza where she had not one, not two, but three guys pining for her attention and she doesn't exactly follow her own instincts but Jane Austen's. I was actually quite frustrated with Liza's decisions with her love interests that I wanted to throw my Kindle out the window with a sickening passion. One moment I loved Will (Liza's version of Mr. Darcy), then Ryan (her best friends ex boyfriend who is somewhat a bad boy and player) and then Will, Ryan, then Ben (guy in England you meet later on in the book) though I didn't like Ben and missed Ryan.

I had a whirlwind of emotions but always seemed to come back to Ryan, I really, really liked him despite all the rumors of him going through girls like it was nothing. He had something about him that was better than Will could ever be.

Overall after Liza goes through boy problems, finding her Mr. Darcy I was pleased with the ending. I kinda saw it coming but whatever, it came out how I wanted it and I couldn't have been happier! I gave this book a whopping 4/5 stars and recommend it to anyone who had been waiting for a cutesy novel with a cutesy HEA.

Of course, anything Jane Austen/Pride and Prejudice-related, I am down to read. A fairly quick young adult, chik lit work, we are thrusted into the realm of teenage drama in this generation with a Jane Austen twist. After finishing a complex book prior to Finding Mr. Darcy, it was relaxing to dive into a story of young love. However, I wished Butler had spent some more time on the supporting characters. Each of their stories was touched on briefly but not followed through and resolved. The story focuses on Liza and relationships, but I felt that the most important relationship in the book was with herself - making mistakes and having inner dialogues with what feels right and what is challenging. Her relationship with her widower father could have been such a beautiful exploration as well as with her best friend's mom, Assistant Principal Loucas - a mother-like figure for Liza.

Reflecting on my high school days, my, how things have changed. Liza, while admirable to make mistakes, is taken up with herself for most of the story, completely missing significant signs from the boys she is interested in as well as her best friend, Janie. One of her love interests, Will, tells Liza simple yet thought-provoking statements in a potential relationship: “I want to get to know you, Liza. There’s something blocking me though. You won’t let me in... Will you let me in?” Personally, such beautiful advice to take, though Liza doesn't let her guard down.

A fan of the Jane Austen references, Liza's trip to England inspires me to visit the historic sites of my favorite classic authors. Although fast-paced and quick-witted, I felt the story jump around too quickly, not too immersed in one major theme but hitting the surface of multiple throughout. The changes in points of view (between Liza and Janie) was refreshing, but I was not satisfied with the limited face time for Janie, as she dealt with a mother who doesn't understand her and an online dating situation gone dangerously wrong. I am hoping that the story post-novel and post-high school leads to more revelations and self-discovery for Liza, especially seeing how she comes about finding her Mr. Darcy.

What I liked: One of my biggest pet peeves when reading YA is when the main characters don’t sound their age. Like yea, I get it you are a werewolf fighting against a curse, going through puberty, and trying to protect that chick over there, but come-on sound like a teenager. Luckily, Erin Butler’s characters sound like teens. They use slang and the vernacular of their (our?) generation. They have teen problems and they talk about it in a way that makes sense to their age group. Can I just say FREAKING FINALLY. It was so refreshing to read something in YA Contemporary that sounded, well, contemporary.

When I first picked up this book, I thought it was going to be a re imagining of “Pride and Prejudice,” especially given the main characters first name and was more intrigued as to what this was going to look like played out through High School, as opposed to, the Regency-era. However, I would classify this as a story that borrows rather than retells and I think it adds all the more intrigue. Half way through the book I stopped trying to figure out who was playing what P&P character and really began to enjoy the story as it stood.

What I didn’t like: The boy drama in the beginning between Ryan and Will. It felt very trite and was honestly super confusing.

What I meh’ed on: So, while I wouldn’t say that this was something I didn’t like, but I will say it did make it difficult to really fully get into the book when I began, is that fact that it is clearly for a teen audience. While I think that gives it a ton of charm, it did make it difficult for me, as an adult, to really relate until I was well into the book and suspending some of my post-first relationship boy knowledge.

Overall, this was a really charming story and Butler wrote what, to me, feels like a genuine teenage experience. I think an older reader can appreciate it in a “Omg, Eliza and Janie get yourselves together and use your brains!” kind o f way, but this would be even more appreciate for those in the same age-group as the main character. I’m excited to get this book into my students hands since I think they’ll really enjoy it and possibly learn a new appreciate for P&P and Jane Austen. (7.5/10)

huh all the switching boys and twisted friendships kinda detracted from the enjoyment.

Like me you would be forgiven in thinking that Finding Mr Darcy would be a re-imagining of Pride and Prejudice (P&P) set in a high school. Unfortunately, while it does use significant elements of Pride and Prejudice it also weaves in elements of other Austen novels especially Sense and Sensibility alongside Persuasion. So you have a real mish-mash of the tropes; while this did expand the story it also made it confusing to follow and fully establish a true connection to the plot.

Told in dual first person narrative from the perspectives of Eliza and Janie (yes, they are named after the heroines in P&P). The majority of the story focuses on Eliza with the odd chapter from Janie, Eliza’s best friend. Janie’s chapters really didn’t connect with the main parts of the story. I have to say I didn’t really like her in the slightest. I don’t know if this was Erin’s intention but that was how I felt. There was also an element of Janie’s plot focusing on internet chat-rooms and the dangers they can create. I felt that there was a lot of potential in this story arc however, for me it didn’t culminate in a fully developed plot piece. Rather it felt as if it was a tangent that didn’t become fully realized.

There is a lot going on within the plot, death and bereavement, friendship, coping with illness among other things. In fact there was so many peripheral aspects it detracts focus from the characters and main plot. Being a romantic I wanted to concentrate on the ROMANCE. I have to mention my intense dislike of the way in which the relationships became interchangeable; the best friends wrong choice, swap (Urgh NO)

I’m sorry if I am coming across as completely negative I don’t mean to be as the story does contain some really humorous parts, especially the Austen heroines offering romantic advice to Eliza.

I don't know about you, but I'm always happy to dive into stories based on Jane Austen's novels. What can I say? Her love stories are classically stunning and the love interests are so interesting.*cough Mr. Darcy cough* So when I had the chance to read Erin Butler's YA inspired book, I crossed my fingers and hoped to be swooned by her story. And I was!

I simply adored the cuteness of this book! It was such a fun, light read that made me smile constantly. The main character, Eliza, was crazy in love with everything that had to do with Jane Austen, making her an awesome Jane quoter (is that a word?). She's a nice girl, with troubles and faults, and in her quest to find a Jane approved love, she immerses herself in her own sort of version of Pride and Prejudice, and more.

The love interests were very swoon worthy and I was so rooting for Will (high school edition of Mr. Darcy). He was perfect and adorable! Okay, not that perfect, but I developed a huge crush on him so his perfect in my eyes. However, there's also this guy who was super sweet too and, despite not being as perfect as my Will, he was a worthy candidate as well.

I have to say I was a bit bummed on how things end up with Liza. Nothing bad happens really and I must admit it's quite clever and unexpected, but I fear that wasn't what I wanted. Still, I liked how Liza came to know herself and did what she think was best for her and everyone.

Overall, if you're looking for a sweet, fast-paced read inspired by the great Jane Austen, then this one is undoubtedly one you should try soon. ;)

3.5/5

I really liked this book; and it has nothing to do with the fact that I love Jane Austen (ok maybe a little bit).
Really I just loved how Liza was using all the lessons from each book to help her find her perfect match but along the way began to realise that not all lessons about real life can be taken from a book. Everyone has to figure these things out for themselves; no two people are alike in any situation.
I have to say though, I absolutely hated Janie. To me she was the worst best friend in the world. I have no idea how anyone could think of her as a friend when she had such horrible thoughts about her friend. It made no sense to me.
I'll be honest again and say I didn't like Will from the beginning. He just didn't seem like someone I would get along with.
To be honest, at times Liza really wrecked my head with some unnecessary behaviour.
There was one part of the story that was left blank and I am rather curious about what happened.
Now, I know what you're thinking, "How could you like this book with all that negativity?". Well, the answer is that there are a lot of people like these in real life and you have to navigate similar situations that Liza did to find the person for you. (Though maybe not in quite the same way)
I really enjoyed the ending because I was hoping and praying for it from the beginning. I would really like to see this story from another perspective and maybe with a bit of a prequel. ;) Just saying.
Overall I liked the lessons learned in this story. I liked the idea of them coming in the form of Jane Austen novels but with a twist. And I like the idea that no one really knows what they're looking for until it's staring them right in the face and even then it may take a while.

is a cute, fun read, especially for fans of Jane Austen. It’s full of first love and misunderstandings and fangirling and figuring out how to make sense of the things you love. Liza, a self-professed Jane Austen fangirl, gets the surprise of a lifetime when she’s told she’s won a trip to England to study British writers. And it just so happens that the hot new boy at school is going too. It’s the perfect contemporary set up for a Jane Austen mash-up. With lots of Austen references and quotes—not to mention Liza’s fun JA tees—it will speak to readers who’s copies of P&P and Emma and all the rest are as tattered as Liza’s.

A few of the plot points didn’t work for me, and unfortunately they were the ones that the story was built on, so I had some trouble getting lost in the story like I wanted. I didn’t buy that Liza won a trip to England from a contest she didn’t know she’d been entered into (why wouldn’t her teachers tell her???) or that all of a sudden three super-hot boys all wanted her and then she couldn’t help but jump into intense make-out sessions with all of them (separately, of course!) without even thinking if she liked them back. I know she’s young (and lustful) but I wanted her to be more sensible and less easily swayed by what boys said to her. But I was happy to see how it all worked out in the end, and that Liza picked the boy who I’d been rooting for all along.

Review
*This book was given to me, in exchange for an honest review*
Finding Mr Darcy is a mixed book for me. There were a lot of things that I liked, for instance, I liked that there were some parts of the story told from Janie's perspective as well as Liza's. I liked that it was a quick and fun read. I liked that there were a lot of references to Austen's work, even if some didn't quite hit the mark, and seemed a little forced in places.
I enjoyed the overall idea of the story, it was cute and I'm a fan of cute books.
The downside is that I didn't like Liza until probably the last ten or so pages. I found her to be really annoying, and at times selfish. That took away from my enjoyment of the book, because I just got mad at her.
One other thing is that although I loved having Janie's parts included, I felt these needed to be expanded a lot more. There were things that were happening with Janie's character, which if I'm honest, sounded like a more interesting story, than what was happening with Liza's. I would have liked to of seen a lot more from her, because what we did get was fantastic.
One thing I did like was that it did keep me guessing, I wasn't sure how things were going to turn out, so that was good.
Overall, this was a decent book. I enjoyed a few things, others, not so much. Mostly I just felt that it needed a little more development.

original can be found @Books & Swoons

I am a fan of Jane Austen; so naturally I jumped at the opportunity to read this book. I thought the story was cute, and had a modern twist on Pride and Prejudice. The story flowed seamlessly from beginning to end, the pacing was steady and kept me moving right along with the story.

Eliza is a bit of a flake. She doesn't really know what she wants and is having a hard time deciding who she wants to be with. Although she is a nice character she comes off as a little silly and very self centered. Janie is much like Eliza, but she likes to dye her hair and acts rebellious. Will and Ryan are the main love interest and neither really had the swoon factor for me.

There was a love square I would call it going on throughout the story which had me confused for most of the book. There are some very touching scenes in the book which warmed me up to the story, and the trip to England was fun to read about and imagine. All in all the story was good but not really my cup of tea.

This book is perfect for all those people who fell in love with Mr. Darcy and can't recover from it.
To all those people who compared the people in their life with Jane Austen's books. To those who are blindsided by labels, they're not even in the same category.

As this is a YA book, this is for the girls who are looking so hard for their own Mr. Darcy, they forgot that their Mr. Darcy has been there all along.

------

I loved reading this book. Especially the WWJD t-shirt. I wish I had one.
And there's the part where they went to England. It's not Paris, but it came close.

Spoilers:
I was not satisfied with the ending of the book. When Will broke up with Eliza, I didn't ven see that coming. There's no indication. Totally shocked me.

- Non-Spoiler Review -

This book was quite good. Like it was pretty enjoyable. I liked the characters in this book and the different personalities they had. The romance in this was good and there was a great balance between dialogue and actual romantic stuff which is great because reading a book where the characters are mostly kissing or snuggling or anything is else is probably the worse to read because it gets sick and repetitive. I also liked how this book went and how the different events ran next to each other very smoothly. I think this would be great if you read lots of romantic contemporaries .

I liked this book. I feel it was a younger adult book than I expected but I still enjoyed it. I was always rooting for Ryan through everything. I liked Liza and Janie's relationship but felt that they were super close at times and at others, they were worlds apart. Overall, perhaps this will encourage high schoolers to read the classics and fall in love with them as we all have done.

~~~RECEIVED FOR HONEST REVIEW~~~
Mixed feeling on this book. It was a good read, don't get me wrong, but I think that appeals more to the younger youth. But I will tell you this, this book is well written and I strongly believe that the teenagers are more at the angle of this read.
