Romantic Egyptian Mythological Gulliver's Travels

It took me a while to get into the book. The first third went slowly. By the time they escaped, there had been no Supernatural events. As they traveled through the desert, they ran into multiple unusual instances that reminded me of Gulliver's Travels.

The later 2/3 were different. It was clearly a Egyptian mythological influenced book. I enjoyed the different encounters with the gods and goddesses and the style of the descriptions.

The love scene was erotic and graphic. However, it confused me. She very clearly said she had never given a man a private dance. However her behavior and lack of pain definitely made her seem quite knowledgeable and experienced. I was not 100% certain if she was a virgin or not. The love story was beautiful and ended with words just as sweet. However, I would have liked an epilogue with a few details between betrothal and death.

"What can I do for you?” she asked, looking him full in the face and smiling. “You do so much for me—” “Just love me,” he said, gathering her into his arms and lowering his lips to hers. And so she did, for many long and happy years, until the gods kindly took them both into the Afterlife, together forever as promised."

I would try another book by this author.

This historical romance, set in ancient Egypt, was an awesome surprise. I enjoy finding new authors, almost as much as I enjoy rereading favorite ones. Ms. Scott does a fine job in telling her story of temple/tavern dancer Nima and warrior/spy Kamin, fellow captives of their Egyptian enemies. There's romance, adventure, mythology, magic - lots to love in this tale. And, as an extra added bonus, it can be also read as a stand-alone, which worked out just fine for me, as I hadn't read the first two books.

A clever, fun book, and very recommended.

I came across Veronica Scott's The Gods of Egypt series via Bookbub's daily list of books. This was a free book and given the story was set in Ancient Egypt, I was immediately interested. I did not realize until after I read the novel that this story was the third in the series, however that really did not matter since each story stand alone.

This story is about a dancer and a soldier who were captured separately, but are held prisoner by a group of enemy that is headed back to a secret stronghold. The dancer shows the soldier compassion and soon their paths are intertwined. Scott weaves romance into this mainly adventure/mystery story with a healthy dose of Ancient Egyptian mythology. Scott balanced the story between the three genres and created a very enjoyable story with worthwhile characters that readers want to follow.

I have since read the first shorter novel in the series, but I'm glad I read Dancer of the Nile first. I think it is a solid, blended genre story as well as being a good length.

This was a pleasant surprise! There was a lot of action and some romance and some supernatural stuff going on in here. And let's not forget that it was set in Egypt in 650BC How often do you find romance books about that time period? Not often, I'll tell you :)

I'm definitely going to have to go back and read the others in this series :)

The story was good, but...

This story was good, but there was a very detailed sex scene and some other sexual references throughout the story. Despite this, the story was very engaging and the characters were well developed and drew you into the story.
I received this book free from one of the book subscription emails.

Entertaining & enjoyable. I liked the strong female character who didn't sit back and rely on the hunky soldier to save her but actually got off her backside and saved the day herself on more than one occasion.
I've seen other reviews for this that moan about it not being believable. Well, when the book description clearly says "...Aided by the Egyptian god Horus and the Snake Goddess Renenutet, beset by the enemy’s black magic..." then unless you actually believe in this stuff, of course it stretches credulity!
I enjoyed it, and if you're prepared to accept that it's a work of historical fantasy and not 100% historically accurate, then you might too.

This book started off a bit slow for me as the main characters got closer. It felt a bit needlessly stretched out. Perhaps I'm not much of a 'slow burn' fan. But once that was over, the story really picked up. A lot of well written action scenes made me truly feel like I was watching it all unfold rather than reading about it. Veronica is a gifted author and definitely knows how to keep interest in a story going.

I really enjoyed Dancer of the Nile. For me it ticked all the boxes; exciting, romantic, adventous, mythological, and magical.

Nima was an interesting female character. She was brave and quick thinking. It's so nice to see the woman save the man for a change.

I will be reading more from this series.

Adoro mitologia, e narrativas relacionadas a deuses e deusas sempre me fascinaram. Por isso li este livro, e achei bastante interessante a forma como é relatada a relação ente deuses e humanos, e gostei principalmente da protagonista, uma mulher decidida e corajosa, que não hesita em lutar pelo que quer e precisa.

fun adventure

Stepped outside my comfort zone here with Egyptian history, didn't realize it had so much paranormal influence with the Egyptian gods. Interesting. But really, just a well written, fast paced story of escape and a race to save Egypt.
Sexy, but not overly so.

For some reason, I had expected historical fiction, but this wasn't what I had hoped for.
It is fiction straying into the fantastic, and some romance thrown into it for good measure.
On the whole it was OK, but not really anything making me want to read the other tomes in that series.

Fantastic story. Besides a great romance and adventure, this book gives the reader enough mythological background to enjoy the book without being intrusive. I really enjoyed learning about Egyptian myths.

Interesting story with a mystic touch, characters who are willing to sacrifice all for the greater good and a journey through the desert that kept me reading, couldn't put the book down.

With all the exciting and nervy moments building up to an intense ending, and the delightful joy they shared, this was very good.

The book throws us right into action; the heroine is tied up and being carried in a litter; the hero is being led/pulled on a rope behind the group of Hyksos soldiers.

There's much to love here. Nima is a strong character, both physically and mentally, and a VERY skilled dancer. Kamin is a spy (or something more). She wears a snake amulet bead, linked to Renenuet, the Snake Goddess; his personal God is Horus, the Falcon (and those two critters are never friends IRL). Nima contrives an escape and the two of them flee the evil Hyksos before reaching the stronghold, carrying vital information that MUST be passed to Pharaoh.

I found the start, fast-paced and exciting though it was, a little confusing. I wasn't sure if this was a continuation of another book in the series (it's not) or if I'd missed the set-up; I wasn't sure if these two characters were supposed to know each other or not. Although there's plenty of chemistry, there's only one sex scene - given the plotline of the story, it would have been impossible to staple in more, but some readers might be disappointed with that.

But I liked that these characters fall in love with each other's NOT merely based on sexual attraction or chemistry (which they have, in spades) and that Nima really isn't sure what she's supposed to DO with her amulet. Enjoyed getting to see another Egyptian goddess (Renenuet) strut her stuff, as well as a little of Horus's trick. The pacing holds up well (though this is almost a novella, at under 200 pages), the ending is suitably exciting and (of course) there's a happily ever after.

Veronica Scott has a talent for forming characters. Nima and Kamin meet while captives of an invading army. Nima is a dancer of talent but little note who has been taken and for a General to dance and possibly die for the foreign god. Kamin is an Egyptian who the savvy Nima instantly recognizes as a warrior. Her bravery and natural sympathy which leads her to offer him some much needed water forms a bond and together they escape.

Scott takes us on a wild ride with the pair. Aided with the special magic and unique characteristics Scott grants them they have strange experiences that fit perfectly with the well crafted plot. There was never a point where I said, "That shouldn't or couldn't happen" because though some of the plot points are not of this world Scott forms them in a way that could be believed of THAT world.

While not my favorite Scott book - an author for whom I am now a huge fangirl - I could not give "Dancer of the Nile" less than five stars. There is literally nothing wrong with this novel. Not a thing I would change. Loved every moment of this paranormal/historical romance. Pick it up today.

One of the things I hate most about reading is stumbling into a series mid-stream and having other stories referenced. Half of that happened here, I stumbled into a series at the third installment but none of the other stories were referenced. It was a completely self contained story.
Nima and Kamin's story was incredible from start to finish. They both start out as captives for the enemies of Egypt, each for their own distinct reasons but both captives none the less. They both expand their escape plot to include the only other Egyptian captive in the camp but when the escape happens it is Nima (the female protagonist) who engineers and sets the escape in motion. This was a refreshing change of pace from books where the man is normally the hero, don't mistake this story though. While Nima is a strong character who can take care of herself, Kamin is a soldier in the Pharaoh's army and not a slouch in the hero department. In fact, one of the best scenes in the story is when Kamin argues with the god Horace to save Nima, who has been recaptured.
Overall, I would say this was a great book and I now want to see the beginning and end of the series.

Veronica Scott is becoming one of my favorite Romance Authors. This is the third Scott book I've read, and she doesn't disappoint.

Nima, an Egyptian dancing girl, and Kamin--who isn't what he seems, are thrown together by fate, both as prisoners of a group on the move in the Egyptian desert. A bond forms between them, and as soon as an opportunity materializes, turns into the two of them on the run.

Adventure, risk, mystical happenings, ancient Egyptian culture, and a whole lot of romance blossoming make for a delightful read.

This is a fun story. Romance, Adventure, HEA.

An enjoyable story. Nima and Kamin both bring strengths to the story so the plot is fairly balanced regarding their input and actions. It was a little heavy on the Egyptian Gods helping them out (if the Gods have this power why didn't they just swoop in and fix everything? but if they did there would be no story so maybe I answered my own question :). I was a little worried at the end with the *mild spoiler "I'm just a dancer" but it wasn't prolonged and I was happy with the ending. I'd recommend to others.

Good Book

Page Turner, loved the history and romance together in one book. Throw in a little magic from the Gods and the evil that threatened them, kept me reading.

What a pleasant surprise! Honestly I wasn't looking for anything in particular the day I found this little gem for a hot deal. I was pleased that even though it falls in the middle of a series is stands alone very well. The story draws you in quickly, meaning no dull setup when learning about the characters, you learn back story as this story progresses. There was just the right balance of perilous adventure and romance to keep me turning pages.

A fun read

Both captured by Hysoks, Nima and Kamin must escape and carry the plans back to the Egyptians. Nima is dancer, and she has been stolen for the Hysok's general. Kamin, is a soldier, sent to spy on the enemy and discover the location of their fortress. The romance flows well, but the I introduction of Egyptian religion is stilted and forced.

A cute book. A quick read.

A captive dancer and solider escape and must get back to warn the Pharaoh and save Egypt. I liked both characters. Love a strong female and Nima didn't disappoint. I also loved Kamin the solider spy. Together these two brave the dessert to get important information to stop an invasion and with the help of the gods they get it done.

It was real slow getting started, I almost stopped reading. If a book doesn't grab me by the end of the first chapter, it may not. The premise was good, but I just lost interest. Sorry, but I really didn't care for this book.
