Gentleman Spy . . .
Bold, dashing Webb Dryden remembered the reckless hoyden who'd pursued him as a child. I liked the book better than Brazen Angel. I liked the intrigue of this one, but wasn't too fond of the characters. The character development of the heroine was a little iffy. We met Lily in Brazen Angel when she was 15 or 16. She had a child's crush on Webb, 21. In this book, they meet again as adults. At times she seemed like a simpering debutante. Then, the author would have us believe she was an effective spy. She had me confused most of the time. As far as the hero, Webb, I am not sure he lived up to his reputation as an accomplished spy. He also appeared in Brazen Angel, but he had just been rescued from France. This book didn't develop that part of the adventure at all. Still, I am forging on to Brazen Temptress, the last of the Trilogy.
Sequel to the Brazen Angel. Unfortunately little new here. H/h are spies and travel between France and England. Practically a replay of Sophia and Giles' adventures with a few differences. Sorta slot in new heroine/hero name. Nevertheless a good read.
I’ve tracked my reading progress in The Brazen Trilogy.
I didn’t like Lily at first ... but gradually changed my mind about her as the adventures evolved. Although this marked her foray into Webb’s work world, she acquitted herself well.
I enjoyed the roles that the secondary characters played in this love story that played out in the world of global espionage. 😁
How interesting that Napoleon’s tyranny helped the two step foot on English soil again. Spoiler?
A very enjoyable adventure in the days of Napoleon with all the greed and craziness of that era. It is full of a blossoming love between the two main characters with excitement, wit and a simple story yet very engrossing told by Elizabeth Boyle. I have thoroughly enjoyed this second book in this series and am looking forward to reading the next.
WHAT PART OF THIS STORY WAS ABOUT A HEIRESS? ALL I SAW WAS A SELF CENTERED, VAIN HERO WHO JUST GOT ALL PISSY WHEN THE GIRL WHO USED TO FAWN OVER HIM SEEMS TO BE OVER HIM, AND THE HEROINE JUST WAS MEHH
Spectacular!! As good or better than the first book in the series!! I love the history in these books, it's entwined with the fictional story to a point that it seems part of the real past. Very interesting!!
Lily was spurned by Webb all those years ago. Now with a failed marriage behind her she's being tossed back in Webb's direction. With lots of miscommunication and a solid storyline this is a great second part to the trilogy. Webb's overconfindence in himself and Lily's determination is what make the situations even more deadly. I did feel that the ending was a little rushed, especially when it comes to their relationship.
I really enjoyed this book. I thought the story was exciting and the romance was good, but my only complaint is that there were no breaks between the changes in who the story was following. I would be following Lily one minute and the next minute I would be following Webb with no break or warning and I would feel lost for a few seconds until I figured out what had happened.
Not nearly as good as the first book but still very enjoyable. Lily has loved Webb since she was young. Now a spy for the Americans, her adopted country, she is forced towork with Webb in Paris. Again, lots of great action and ramance but not as breathtaking as the first book.
