It is really Pieter Bruegel the Younger and Jan Bruegel whose art works I enjoy more than their father’s art works. I do appreciate the fact that Pieter Bruegel painted the common folk, the peasants in many of his works. These are the reasons for the two star rating of this title in the Getting to Know the World’s Greatest Artist’s.

I read this to a group of children in order to introduce our artist of the term (Pieter Bruegel the Elder.) My children really love these biographies.

I love this series Getting to Know the World's Greatest Artists by Mike Venezia; hell, I love every book I have read of Venezia. His books are fun and memorable for young readers.

I have been crediting much of Pieter Bruegel's art to Hieronymus Bosch, an artist who very much inspired Bruegel. His work ranged from gorgeous landscapes to twisted proverbs (a short saying that that teaches a lesson). My daughter and I both laughed when we read "people thought that he was just a fun-loving artist who wanted to make people laugh." Really? Were they looking at the same paintings we were?? I very much enjoyed learning a bit about Bruegel, an artist ahead of his time who's life little is known about.

We love this series. Excellent biography information and has several paintings reproduced here with short explanations.

The kids continue to look through these books. We'll use more in this series as well. They are books well worth owning.
