Once bitten, twice shy.

Betrayed by his late first wife, Gallien will never give his heart to a woman again; however, he has a duty to remarry and sire heirs for the Montbryce earldom.

Peridotte has long fancied herself married to a handsome Angevin nobleman. She fears the cold, arrogant Norman, to whom she finds herself betrothed, when political intrigue forces them into an arranged marriage.

This is dramatic, suspenseful, tragic and romantic. Gallien is untrusting, harsh, stubborn and insecure. Peri is naive, insecure, hopeful and caring. Gallien swore to never give his heart again after he found his first wife already pregnant on their wedding night. Peri was crushing on Geoffrey when she was sent to serve the king's daughter. The king decides to betroth Gallien to Peri, Gallien is not happy about it, Peri is heartbroken. While Peri is living with the Montbryce's before the wedding Gallien ignores her. On their wedding night Gallien is not very gentle with her, until he finds she's a virgin, then he lets things heat up between them. But the next day he's right back to ignoring her. This goes on until he leaves to go to war. The distrust Gallien has wreaks havoc on their lives iver and over. They face kidnapping, misconceptions and tragedy. This is one of the more gripping stories in the series, I loved it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.

I just don’t know how she can come up with such great books time after time!! Infidelity by Anna Markland is book 9 in The Montbryce Legacy Anniversary Edition Book is truly another great. Anna has a way of writing medieval politics with romance that I am in awe with every time I read one of her books. Her stories and characters are just wonderful with a true medieval feel. Though in a series you can read this as a standalone. This story has revenge, innocence, deceit, resentment, arranged marriages, torture, pain, injuries, loving families, death, pride, a dark past, sadness, acceptance and yes love. It has everything you want in this amazing story! I highly recommend this book!

***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.

Infidelity
By Anna Markland
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

As the saying goes once bitten twice shy. Gallien de Montbryce has decided will never give his heart to another woman again. He was betrayed by his first wife who ended up dying in child birth while having another mans baby, but he knows that he has a duty to uphold. He must remarry and father heirs for the Montbryce earldom so he marries a woman who the crown has betrothed him to.

Peridotte has always fancied herself married to a handsome Angevin nobleman, but instead finds herself marrying a cold, arrogant Norman.

Afraid to admit that they both have feelings for eachother they appear to be doomed to a life of resentment, but there are people lurking in the background that want to hurt them both.

Anna Markland writes a story that is rich with history and rife with anger, resentment, and villainy. I really enjoyed it. I read the book in a day as once I opened it up I could not put it down

A great addition to the fabulous Montbryce Legacy. Each one seems even better than the next! Gallien has given his heart once but will never again. Betrayal cannot be forgiven, but he has a duty to wed and sire a heir for the earldom.
Peridotte (love that name!) has only wanted to marry a good man, but she is fearful when she finds herself in an arranged marriage to Gallien. Will he ever bend to allow himself to have feelings for her?
Anna Markland brings the history alive in these unsettling times full of political intrigue and struggles for power. The characters bring you into the story as it progresses and there is danger but also an unfolding romance.
Be prepared for another page turner that will leave you wanting more from this compelling author!!

I could have done with a little less politics and historical facts. At times, all those hard to pronounce names just confused me. I know there needs to be some back story, but it was heavy at times. I liked it when the story focused on Peri and Gallien. But I have to admit Gallien's pigheadedness made me want to throw my Kindle.

So exciting

Gallien the son and heir of Baudoin Montbryce, Earl of Ellesmere discovers on his marriage night that his wife Felicite was not a virgin and was actually with child. She ends up dyeing with her child in child birth. Gallien did not know who she had been with until he found her in an embrace with Devlin de Villiers at Henry’s court in Westminster. DeVilliers ended up losing his hand in a sword fight, Gallien intending to kill him except for the intervention of Henry’s guards.Gallien was upset that Henry had secured the throne for Mathilda his daughter and she was betrothed to Geoffrey Plantagenet of Anjou.

Peridotte dePontrouge was upset when her father told them that Geoffrey was to marry The Queen Mathilda. She had been in love with him for a long time, she then learned that she was to be one of the ladies in waiting to the queen. She was against it but to please her parents she went.
What happened from there was so exciting and what an ending!!

Enjoying the series

Betrayal is hard to overcome.
When a king demands you marry, you don't have a choice. The story is original and the characters are easy to become involved with their problems. Ms. Markland has a way with a story to draw you into the story and not let go. On to the next book in this series.

Brilliant

Another riveting tale from the Momtbryce Legacy series. Although I have read them out of order none the less it doesn’t take from Anna’s wonderful historic fiction. Full of detail, intrigue & romance.

Turned White By Betrayal

Galliano felt betrayal to the depths of his being. Enough that his hair turned white almost overnight. His joy destroyed by the bride pregnant with another man's child. Withdrawn and different even after relief as she and her babe die in childbirth.
King Henry's unwise choice of his successor has political unrest throughout all the countries effected and war or loss of properties if wrong choices are made. Peridotte is chosen as one of Maud's Handmaiden's at the suggestion of Maud's new husband for his underhanded schemes to get this young girl in his evil clutches. Maud finds out and arranges a marriage between Peri and Gallien against their wishes. To refuse could cost his family all of their holdings. She is sent straight to his Estate and they are married. She tries to make it work but the only think he makes work is the fantastic sex at night. In the day he ignores her as if she's invisible.
She becomes pregnant and has twins and hopes for his acceptance, but he is tricked by his old enemy and imprisoned before they can make peace. He is secreted away and beaten and whipped. She is lured there with the intent to rape and kill her in front of Gallien. Her cunning and anger give her the upper hand hand she kills de Villier, but she is scalded and he can't help because he is hanging from the ceiling. His father and brother find them and rescue them, but she is in serious danger from her burns. With his love and care for her everything works out for them in the end.

5+ Stars!!! Gallien & Perri have a very interesting and intriguing story that I am sure you will enjoy! This is another phenomenal Montbryce Story.

For a man who has been betrayed before, it would be extremely difficult to trust again. Then it appears as though he's reliving the nightmare all over again in the name of duty. Gallien Rambaud de Montbryce struggles internally with his past and is now very vocal about what he feels, but he is a Montbryce and respects his family. Now a beautiful red hair and green eyed beauty will unfortunately be the target of his bitterness and his armor being up.

Peridotte, is nursing a crush for the man who must marry a future Queen. Her consolation is to serve as lady-in-waiting to this future Queen. Jealousy and intrigue are predominant at Westminster which sees Perry having two submit to a marriage alliance. Can she make the best of her new circumstances or will she be condemned for more than one thing in your life?

Baoudin de Montbryce is witnessing his son's struggles and can't help but feel guilty. A fine let me is to be walked in between political strife. Can his son ever let his guard down long enough to truly find happiness?

This is another great historical romance from Anna Markland. She takes us to the political minefield of the royal court. Our hero is a bitter man who mistrusts all women. Our heroine an innocent girl who fancies herself in love with a boy who will be a prince. The detail of the day to day life of the young ladies in waiting is fasinating. Life below stairs in a royal castle was hard and horrible work. Some people will do anything to get their way . I loved this latest book in the series. If you have not read the others you can still enjoy this on it's own. But it is a great series so why not read them all.

Fabulous Characters

What a wonderfully enthralling tale! The author drew me back to medieval times quite easily, providing enough historical detail to imagine a scene without letting minutiae bog down the storyline. Her characters were well developed - heroes and villains alike. Hearts and Crowns is the newest story in a much larger collection about the Montbryce family. I've not read any of them, but I don't think I missed anything by starting with this one. I'm going to start at the beginning of the series next!

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for a review. Markland now has another fan.

Although the sometimes cold, calculating antics of the characters in "true" regency romance are usually a bit off-putting, realistically, their arrogance and boldness will always stir up the emotions. This series always gives me the jaw-dropping shock-factor and that keeps me glued to the pages. It's so enticing that you want to tell someone, can you believe they did/said...... I love the strength of Peridotte, she is a giver and a force to be reckoned with. Gallien is....very prideful aka stubborn as a mule. I enjoyed reading their story and the challenges that surface within and without. I am voluntarily reviewing a free copy.

I really liked this book a ton! I enjoyed each aspect of the historical world in the book. I was a bit annoyed with the hero multiple times when something seemed so forward yet he second guessed it. Though in his defense, he had good reason. I loved the heroine, she was wonderful, and I thought the author did a wonderful job with the romance. The family was so intriguing I really want to know what happens next!

Another fabulous story in the Montbryce series. Your heart goes out to Gallien from page one. Although he takes his anger and distrust out on Peri you still hope that his heart will open to her. There’s a lot of court intrigue in this story and as usual Ms. Maryland walks you through the political mire of the time bringing clarity to a turbulent period. The story does not pull any punches and there are some vividly gory parts, but also some beautifully romantic love scenes.

Gallien betrayed by his wife on their marriage bed. He will never trust another woman. Peri was in love with "Handsome" but he was betrothed to another. Gallien and Peri have a rough road ahead. Gallien with his beliefs who should be king and Peri's life in danger. A lot of intrigue and danger going on in this book. But a las a HEA.

Great read

Although I would not want to live in the medieval times, I have to admit I enjoy reading about them. I enjoy the tough warriors and what things some of them go through. The romance is different but so enjoyable to see the finale. Loved this one. Please continue writing more.
