Jackie Ivie was born and raised in a suburb outside Utah's capital, beautiful Salt Lake City. The second in a family of four daughters and one son, Jackie was constantly amusing her siblings with her invented games, escapades, and stories. And she was always reading. She would even walk the family dog, with one hand holding the leash, while the other held the ever-present book. No subject went unread, but once she discovered Historical Romances, there was no doubting her favorite genre.
Jackie has always been the busy type, rarely sitting still without being occupied in at least one activity, and usually more. When she was younger, it was nothing to find her watching television, while doing her homework, listening to music, crocheting like a madwoman, and reading, all at the same time.
After graduating, Jackie gained secure employment with a large service company and relocated with her growing family to the neighboring, sparsely-populated state of Wyoming. She then spent several years enjoying the wildlife, scenery, and open space that Wyoming is known for. In addition to writing, Jackie is an accomplished artist in several mediums, preferring mixed media. She has several pictures in print and has exhibited in art showings throughout the West. There was never anything she loved doing more than reading, however, and once she discovered the thrill involved with putting her own words and fantasies on paper there was no stopping her.
In 2001, Jackie and her family took a huge step and moved to the largest state of the nation; Alaska. Although it was her job that brought her here, Jackie has grown to love this land of amazing contrasts, breathtaking vistas, and the ever-present resident, the Alaskan moose. There's nothing else like it, and the very long days of summer lend themselves to hours and hours of energizing tasks, while the long winter nights are just right for her real love...writing.
Jackie has now written thirteen novels and is continually starting more. The thrill of writing has now been enhanced by seeing her actual story in print. Lady of the Knight is her first published work. It will be followed by Tender is the Knight scheduled for release this summer.
I did like this book, but half of the time i felt so confused!!! I loved that the h was not perfect and that she had multiple personality's, I also liked that she was quick with her comebacks. I liked the H, but half the time his actions portrayed him to purposely be an ass hole. Even when it got to the point where he falls in love with the h, he was still purposely mean to her, but in the things he thought you knew how he really felt. The thing that confused me the most was there feelings for each other, she kept thinking "i do love him" and then she would say and do something meant to hurt him and it would be like 20 or 30 pages before she said how much she regretted it, so that whole time your like hmmm, maybe she doesn't like him. And the same thing with the H except for him, his ass holey - ness showed for a lot longer and it wasn't till 3 quarters through the book the reader was TOLD how he felt about her(before that you just had to assume). But again there were things that both characters did and said to one another that was just...REALLY MEAN and really hurtful towards one another. Again I really did like this book, but I am still having a hard time wrapping my thoughts around all the purposely hurt full things said and done, and then to still end up with an HEA. Sex was good.
Revisted this one recently and unfortunately the one star still stands.
I so wanted to like this, as I have liked the other books I've read by this author. But, it was just so annoying. I think part of it is that her writing style which is flippant with quirky dialogue using a lot of sarcasm and innuendo, doesn't lend itself to historical fiction at all. Also I was especially bothered me that the hero who was so sensitive as to see past the heroine's crazy behavior in the first part of the book, should take the word of people whom he already knew had no morals, as to the truth of her past. Mind you I was skimming a lot of this. It was just too annoying. I think I will stick to her vampire books. Short and sweet without all the stupid shannangans.
This book was hard for me to rate in a way. The underlying premises behind this novel was there, it was full of passion, despair and intrigue. But sadly I think the execution wasn't smooth enough. It was a complex book and a lot of the time I was actually really confused as to what was going on in the first place. I probably would have set the book aside had it not been for the interesting characters of Brandy/Helene and Gil.
2.5 stars but rounded up to 3. This was a weird book. Like some reviewers, hard to rate or even decide whether I want to keep it as the characterisation of Helene was really interesting and clever at times, particularly at the start, but her and Gill’s interactions were quite confusing and on occasion nasty in what to expect next, and why did he attack her in the forest when she was running away? I wasn’t sure whether he wanted to rape her (even though he kept saying ‘he wouldn’t force her’) or teach her a lesson, it was uncomfortable reading it. The plot tended to meander as well.
I just loved everything about this book. Especially Gillian. I loved the way he always seemed to be joking with Helene when she was trying to be serious. Just a great read!
The book was funny and heartbreaking, smooth flowing read. The characters were excellent. They were heart warming, exasperating and endearing. I need another book by this author!
Brandywine is a wonderful novel with romance from the start to the finish. From the introduction to Brandy, through the revealing of Helene and the interactions between her and Lord Gillian Tremayne this story held me entranced. I would happily recommend this story to both friends and family as I was, seriously, unable to put it down and read through until the morning (I’m writing this really quite tired).
With involved historical reference this book covers some themes of conflict as well as being set in a period of history that is sometimes depicted graphically.
The relationship that evolves between a married couple is sexually explicit and readers should be aware of this before reading, although it is completely in context to the novel and story-line.
A great read that I will definitely be re-reading at some time – A Kindle keeper!
I rate it 4.5 stars!! This is the first book I have read by Jackie Ivie and it definitely won't be my last! I really enjoyed this historical romance. Gillian and Helene's story begins with being duped into marriage. With her defensive persona (that she developed while being forced into an asylum) getting in the way and causing Gillian to distrust her it's really any wonder how these two will ever be able to let down their defenses and love each other as their hearts desire. A true journey from deception to distrust to acceptance and love! At times you will laugh at their barbs to each other and the situations they find themselves in because of their defenses!! An very enjoyable read!! I look forward to reading more by this author!!
This was a new twist on Regency romance for me (confusing at first), but it grew on me as I read more and more of the story. The heroine, Helene, had devious relatives and lustful “friends” who knew she was an heiress but mistreated her so that they could put in place an imposter. Helene adopted the character of Brandy (a sarcastic jokester) to protect herself during her travails with her “jailers.” Along comes Gillian, who thinks he’s marrying the imposter but instead marries a woman with a veil that hides her face (Brandy/Helene). The unusual “courtship” that occurs between Gil and Helene after their marriage was humorous and sad at times, but there was a happy-ever-after at the end and the imposter got her comeuppance. Yea!
This book is hard to review. I liked it, it kept my interest, but it was hard to read sometimes. I loved the heroine Helene/Brandy, but the hero was an ass and he treated her like crap. She was abused in an asylum, he called her a "whore" and "frost bitch" sometimes and I really hated that. It took too long for the author to let you into his head and what he was thinking and feeling. I wanted to know sooner why he was treating her the way he was. I did like it though and I will read more from Jackie Ivie, sex was okay, it could have been juicier for me.
Just finished this Regency romance and it was fabulous!!!! Jackie Ivie never fails!!!! Brandy/Helene and Gillian's story is heart-warming and heart-breaking in equal measures, but leaves you smiling in the end. I have no clue why anyone would be confused, as some of the other readers claimed, unless they weren't paying attention!!!
**2.5/3** Interesting with humor & emotion. By the second half I was slightly confused by the male leads feelings/conclusions(?) Also kept waiting for something hmmm more towards the end, maybe better explanations/ties for cousin & family.(?)
It seems like half the book is missing- any parts that show time or character progression. The main characters are supposedly in love, but there is no love, affection, or friendship shown through out the entire story. The end has them together, but I'm not sure why.
I really tried to like this book. It had great potential, but the story did not flow smoothly and the characters became tedious. Would like the option to add half a star to the two stars I gave it.
This book started out really good. Then about half way through, the author switched gears! Did I miss a chapter or something? Finished it to see how it would end. Kind of disappointed in this one!

Historical English romance with a beaten and abused high born lady is forced into marrying a Baron to escape her situation. There is so many twists in this story that I added an extra star. The reader will be surprised about who Helene is and what she endured to finally end up in a loving marriage with kind family members, the first step was to abandon and run away from her actual biological family. 300ish pages and kindle freebie 3 stars
