Another amazing book by Mr. Thornhill. This book is so funny. Walt and Ox are quite the pair. I might be the only one but I have never had any interest in Star Trek so I have no idea what a Klingon is. I wish a picture was included in the book.Even though I didn't really understand the stuff about Star Trek it was still funny. I did like the references to previous books in the series. I love Morty and Earl the two lottery winners. They are a couple of funny old dudes and how they got involved with Walt and the Gang. As always there were a lot of twists and turns in the book. Never a dull moment and very fast paced reading. I had a hard time putting the book down because I had to find out what would happen next. I really do hope they make the Lady Justice series into a TV series or else a movie. Looking forward to the next adventure of Walt and the Gang. Thanks Mr. Thornhill for such an awesome series!

I don't know what to say about this book - it's funny, it's serious, it's exciting, it's informative. It is written so I felt like I knew the characters and empathized with some of their situations, and wanted to give them advise about others. As the old cop lives, I learn, and as he acts, I applaud. some of the things Robert says in this book, I want to copy to my wall on Facebook for everyone to see, it's so good. I think I'm going to feel about these books the way I did about Grace Livingston Hill's books - I have cases full of them and read them over and over. Not that Robert Thornhill's books are anything like Grace's; but they both have that effect on me.

In his usual dry humor Thornhill hit another home run with Lady Justice and the Lottery. Just amazes me, being about the same age as the author, how he comes up with some of the adventures he comes up with. He always seems to need to save Maggie from something and she is always happy he comes along. Loved the characters he added in this book and they are truly his fans. Hope to see them in future books, especially Morty. I can just see Thornhill setting him up with Mary.

“Lady Justice and the Lottery” by Robert Thornhill is another exciting episode in Thornhill’s “Lady Justice” series. Once again, Maggie, Willy, Mary and the Professor join forces with Walt to help two elderly gentlemen, Morty and Earl, who just won the largest lottery jackpot of all time. Overcome with grandiose plans to turn back the clock to “the good old days” with their newfound riches, the duo encounters trouble at every turn.

After receiving a phone call from a distant and unknown relative, with a “ground floor” opportunity for investment, the two gentlemen begin to believe their attorney’s warnings. Then, while Morty is announcing his plans to build a new baseball park, Earl is kidnapped, along with Maggie. Due to Maggie’s quick thinking, Walt and Ox are able to rescue them. But then Earl gets caught up in another scam, requiring even more – and more dangerous – help from Walt.

“Lady Justice and the Lottery” is a fun read, once again showcasing the talents of Robert Thornhill. The many little factoids Thornhill inserts throughout this book provide surprising edutainment. I learned something about Elvis Presley that I will carry with me to my dying day. I generally am amazed at the historical knowledge of Thornhill, evident in those same factoids. Thornhill obviously does his homework before writing his stories. He has the uncanny ability to weave those factoids into the fictional plot of his mysteries, while maintaining an air of humor throughout his stories.

In short, Thornhill is something of a genius at crafting a good, entertaining mystery, guaranteed to make you laugh. I’ve read quite a few of his books, and there hasn’t been a lemon in any of them. “Lady Justice and the Lottery” is a story everybody can enjoy, and one I strongly recommend to all readers.

What do civil liberties and the lottery have to do with each other? Quite a bit when combined into a tightly woven story by Robert Thornhill, author of the Lady Justice series featuring Walt Williams, the oldest cop on the Kansas City police force.
When the winners give a gift of an air-borne drone to the police force and it then helps save the lives of one of them and Walt's wife, Maggie, the drone is hailed as an invaluable tool for crime fighting. However, when the drone is used to spy on a drug deal in an enclosed junkyard, the lawyer argues that without a proper court order for its use, it is an invasion of privacy, and the dealers go free. Is it a good tool, or a dangerous one?
At the same time, an area wide sweep nets many drug dealers, but also catches the innocent Mary Murphy, manager of Walt's Three Trails Hotel, just because she was taped while purchasing some hydroponic lights to grow tomatoes in her basement. In trying to make the city a safer place by clearing out the druggies, is it okay to have collateral damage such as the wrongful arrest of an innocent citizen?
Meanwhile, the two winners learn that there are lots of people trying to get them to part with their new-found wealth. Walt and his partner, Ox, work hard to save the winners from the bad guys, while still solving an assortment of other crimes in their usual unique way. In the end, Walt makes sure Lady Justice has the final say.
This is a great read for a rainy day...guaranteed to have you laughing. However, it's more than just a comedy. Thornhill makes some very good points about the problems facing lottery winners and the dilemma for crime-fighters when it comes to the right of civil liberties for all...even the bad guys.

Lady Justice and the Lottery (Robert Thornhill)

Robert Thornhill hits a home run in the 14th installment of the Lady Justice series. Two seniors win the big lottery and soon life as they know it is about to change. They want to use their new wealth for good, but (they) find themselves deep in trouble.

Walt Williams is on the case with his partner Ox and they must go undercover at a Star Trek event.
Laugh out loud moments along with danger and adventure on every page. Mystery and comedy lovers will enjoy Walt and gang in Lady Justice and the Lottery!

I am a fan of Robert Thornhill and an even bigger fan of Walt and the gang.

Lady Justice and the Lottery had Star Trek collectables stolen and recovered. An auction for Captain Kirk 's chair to benefit the children's hospital. Walt and Ox helped with security in full star trek costume and makeup. Pretty funny as usual.
There is also the two older men who won the lottery and the decisions that they have to make on how to spend the money but also blackmail and kidnapping because of greed.
Mention is made several times about making a movie or tv show about Walt and the gang. I would absolutely be interested in watching the Lady Justice series on tv!
Another fun read.

I haven't read yet the rest of the series but after reading this I may have to. The author centers the tale around a couple older guys who win the lottery. They have visions of using their money to bring back the past more or less. These intentions are ultimately for the greater good which is how they get hooked up with Ox and Walt. The story has action from the get go and humor. I really love how he mixes it up with an older cop playing the hero and not a young hot god of a man. There is even a damsel in distress again a strange turn of events. This book is anything but stereotypical and a fantastic read for most ages.

I got this book as a free download and I loved it. Another great installment of the Lady Justice series. It has everything from laugh out loud moments, to some intense police work action, and lets not forget some romance as well. I find it so refreshing that the main characters are not only very likable and easy to relate to but they also show that life is not over after 60 or even 70. I can't wait to see what trouble Walt and Ox will get into next.

I have loved both of the "Lady Justice" books that I have read. They are easy to read, funny, and relate to current issues. Walt and Ox get into more shit than a barrel of monkeys. I'll be reading more.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Who hasn't had the thought of winning the lottery??? Well, this is what can happen if you win! The two new characters of the book were interesting, and I found that the book itself was okay. It felt quite slow until the end, with a lot dedicated to Star Trek (which I've never watched and thus didn't really understand) and colonic cleansing. (No, that's not a joke. There is a serious amount of this book dedicated to a man sitting on a toilet and another man talking to him about the toilet). The plot itself was average, and amounted to a little bit of a filler style book.

This was a very interesting book and fun to read. I was glad to have a more light hearted read because Walt can be quite interesting. He is an older cop that gets in the most unusual situations with Lady Justice. His friends, partner and colleagues are all quite interesting and always getting into the most trouble. Walt is always trying to uphold the law and get the bad guys put away. He is very well developed as a character and I enjoyed all the situations he got into.

Cute and entertaining. Being from the same generation as the protagonists, I could relate to the issues at hand. A funny series of events and antics for a crew of older people. Lots of laughs. Reads like a TV sitcom. Easy to read and enjoyable.

This is a very entertaining book with engaging characters. It is good to have some books written with the older reader in mind. I can relate to both the old and new cultural references which make the book so enjoyable to read.

Audiobook review: Lady Justice and the Lottery find Walter Williams and crew once again in the thick of things. Star Trek fans will like this story. The situations/ mysteries Walt and his buddy Ox find themselves in are very entertaining. The lube comment caught me off guard and I had a loud belly chuckling, thankfully I wasn’t at work when it came across. The narrator did a great job with providing unique voices for each character and appropriate tone inflections for each scene! This was the second book in the series that I have read. I didn't like it quite as much as Lady Justice and the Assassin, but I did enjoy it. I liked the bit about the Star Trek collectibles, it was interesting and I wish it had been a bigger part of the story.

Both of the men who won the lottery were nice. They wanted to use their money to recapture the past, but found out that is not really possible. I did not like the part about the drug dealers and the drone. I feel like they should have gone to jail, but the author did make some good points about the right to privacy, and how far do we want to go with it.

Hmm. Two old men win the lottery and reminisce of the days of old. Their fortune will lead them with two cops, Walt Williams and Ox. I can’t say they’re enthralled with the escapades to come, but fate has a way of doing that.

These two are quite a pair they are put in some most unusual and highly, unlikely situations and manage to triumph over evil. If you’re a Star Trek fan, you’ll find a lot of appeal to all references tossed around. You’ll especially enjoy the heist of Captain Kirk’s command chair.

There is a bit of humor sprinkled through the tale that keeps it light.

There are a host of grammatical errors that need to cleaned-up. The most irritating thing I came across was the author putting his hyperlink for his other books constantly through-out the story. I can’t think of anything that would turn me off more than this. It has nothing to do with the story and it is over the top promotion. Very unprofessional.

I definitely didn’t care for the chapter where the drug lords were caught red-handed making a huge cocaine buy and then got off by a liberal lawyer and judge. I wonder if they’ll be standing by their thin laurels when the “smack” hits the street and crime rates soar! Doubtful. Proof, lady justice is blind.

I can see where this tale will have a wide appeal to many of the geriatric crowd as they reminisce of bygone days. Luckily, I’m not that old yet!

No interest in reading any of the other stories in this series.

Two and-a-half stars.

I enjoyed this book. I like the fact that with each book the author gets you thinking about the subject even after the story has finished. In this book Walt and Ox tackles a number of cases with there usual good luck, charm and sometimes bluster all of it very entertaining.
Walt and Ox are traveling to outer space were no man has been before, we'll okay going undercover at a star trek convention when a number of valuable items are stolen from the tv series. Walt is in his element, Ox not so much. At the same time two men win the jackpot by picking the winning lottery tickets and have great big ideas of how to spend the money. Unfortunately this brings lots of con men to Kansas city in the hopes of parting them from the money. When one of the schemes goes wrong and Walt rescues one of the men he steps into motion something that might change his and his friends lives forever because everybody needs a super hero or a tv show.
George Kuch is once again a good choice for the reader as he does an excellent job with all the characters and sets the comic scenes up well with his delivery.

Have you ever wondered what you would do if you won the lottery and suddenly had unlimited resources? That is what happens when 2 70+ year old men find themselves holding the winning ticket and have over $200 million after they pay the taxes. However they also learn having unlimited money can cause it owns problems. Someone tries to kidnap one of them for ransom while they are receiving their money and making an announcement about what they want to do with some of their money. Walt and Ox come to the rescue and save not only the new millionaire but also Maggie who somehow got tangled up in the kidnapping. Then they find out that money attracts even more problems when someone tries to extort money from them. They try to bring back the "good old days" of their youth and learn we can't go back in time. Another wonderful book about the adventures and misadventures of Walt and Ox.

I received this audiobook for free in exchange for my honest review.

"No amount of money can turn back the clock."
A superlative series. Walt Williams, the 69 years old cop, is his usual chatty self, telling tales about, and speculating on the wider consequences of, his exploits with the police as well as things said and done by friends. This time it's drugs, and personal liberty as well as meeting two old men who have just become super rich - and want to change the world.
As always, George Kuch's reading perfectly captures the character of Walt, warm, thoughtful, occasionally conflicted, very humerous, an excellent teller of tales. And his voicings of the other protagonists is also well performed.
A perfect pairing of story and narrator.
Excellent.

I love this series and find they keep getting better and better. Robert Thornhill is a very talented author and writes so well and has some of the best humor. He is able to have several stories going within one book that tie together so well. George Kuch is able to consistently perform so many characters within the book and sound age appropriate for each of them. He has a magical way of delivering the humor that is laugh out loud. Maybe its my age, but I totally get these books and the locale. I love how the author pulls actual events and encompasses them into the books. I cannot recommend this book (and series) enough! I am so looking forward to the next adventure of Walt, Ox, Maggie and the crew. I requested a review copy of this book and have voluntarily written this review.

This series of books help me so much on the many nights I can't sleep. Unfortunately, reading does not put me to sleep, just entertains me through the sleepless hours. This is yet again a great story. This time the author has added a couple of new characters that I am hoping we will see again. What would you do if you won the Lottery...BIG TIME? My husband and I have had many conversations on who we would help and what we would do. These 2 gentlemen who win are faced with all the complications that coming into great wealth entails. There is lots of action and still fun and grins through this book. Happy reading, people!

Lady Justice and The Lottery is my fourteenth enjoyable read/listen from author Robert Thornhill. Another entertaining clean read, filled with puns & one-liners, as always dealing with current social topics. Each book in the series seems better than the last as Thornhill continues to up his game. Narrator George Kuch again adds greatly to the listening enjoyment with his wide variety of entertaining voices & inflections, Kuch IS Walt Williams! I’ll definitely be reading more from Thornhill! I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. Up next is Lady Justice & the Vet. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

The good guys of the SLPD are back! A different pair of retired guys win the lottery and engage a cousin who is a good lawyer to help them to avoid the pitfalls that other lottery winners have faced. There are a lot of other lessons to be learned, and Walt and Ox are right in the middle of the stickiest ones. We also learn a little about the use of drones, and even a little visit by Captain Kirk/William Shatner. Be ready for lots of laughs!
George Kuch is the voice of Walt and crew, and continues to do a fantastic job.

I have read several of this author's books in the lady justice series. This time the scales of justice have been turned upside down as Walt meets the winners of a big lottery. Earl Lassiter and Morton Friedman just struck it rich and while Walt fights for the men against the evils that come with money, readers get to follow along on a twisted adventure. As always, Robert Thornhill writes a great story and the characters of Walt Williams and his family and friends are people you will love to meet and share stories with.

What would you do if you won the lottery? Two people in this book did and tried to do some really nice things with the money. Unfortunately when you win the lottery you have more dangers than you did before and in this book one of the possibilities is shown. Walt, Ox and the police are they to save the day once again and get put in a precarious position. Luckily this is Walt, so all ends well again. Loving this series so far!

I definitely recommend. The National and Author do a fantastic job at bringing the story to fruition. I love the audiobook.
