This was a great little collection of short stories featuring canines finding human companions, based around the Pawley Rescue Center, by some of my favorite MG authors who write dog stories. Perfect light-hearted read on the elliptical during this time of COVID-19. I know now why I'm drawn to reading and writing Middle Grade -- there's HOPE. Can't face dystopian YA right now as we're living it. HA.
Solid library purchase which will be enjoyed my dog lovers reading early chapter books. Twelve short stories about dogs finding their homes. The stories were often predictable and somewhat flat due to the story length. Bio of each author included at the end of the chapters. Book also includes information about RedRover charities.
183 pages. I read the first 15 pages and it was so BORING! No real plot to this one, just a puppy dropped off by an old person who was going to a nursing home and couldn't keep it. No real plot. BORING! Not recommended for ES.
We really enjoyed this collection! It made for great read aloud, as well. Each story had a different take of dogs and their found families, and some were from a human's perspective, some from a dog's perspective. We each had two or three very favorites and looked forward to reading each one.
i love any book about the dog, it start is sad, but end is happy, it have twelve story in side, and it all made by different author, it is interesting. i like it.
I really liked the stories, from the POV of a Pomeranian, to the competition of two twin girls. This book has tales of children, dogs, and the Pawley Rescue Center.
I think this book was truly spetacular. The last tale is about a bernese mountain dog. The part that states that bernese mountain dogs can be over 100 pounds is actually acurate. BErnese mountains are truly loveable just like any other dog. The pawly anumla sheltar that all the books have in common sounds like a truly awesome anial sheltar.
When I read stories like those in this collection, I often wonder who's being rescued--the dogs or the humans or maybe both. Twelve dog-loving authors tell various stories about canines at the Pawley Rescue Center and how they found their forever homes. Keep a box of tissues handy since these stories will wrench the heart of just about any reader. There's something for just about everyone here too--a story about loyalty among the dogs at the shelter, one concerning a Pomeranian who thinks of her best friend even while she finds a comfortable home, and there's even a story about how a dog named Beatrice helped her human companion make friends with the bully who had been giving him a hard time. The stories are quite short, easy to read, and thankfully, have happy endings. To make things even better, royalties from the book are donated to an animal welfare nonprofit organization. Next up: Short stories about rescued cats!
Beautiful book with 12 stories of dogs that have been rescued and the owners that find and love them.It is an easy book to read and each story lends itself to a theme of never ending love we receive from our pets, particularly dogs. Dog lovers will really enjoy each short selection all by different writers. There are no illustrations but the written descriptions are enough to let the reader see the dogs and how the owner feels they are just right for them. The story with the twins ending up working together to get a dog with the twist of a forgotten dog from their infancy and my mom was not ready for a dog had a really good twist.
