A fun light read! Our heroes manifest their powers and work together. Will the city be spared from destruction? Will the villain's plot be uncovered in time? And will the fry machine at MagDonald's ever get fixed?!? Tune in next time, I guess, for even more ridiculous antics!
This was another good and enjoyable volume. I love how we're seeing more of the good side of Maou instead of seeing an evil side. I also like how there was a lot of action this volume and seeing Maou and Emilia working together in order to defeat Lucifer and Olba. It's also clear that Emilia really likes Maou whether it be as a friend or more than that. I didn't really find this volume as funny as the first volume, but there were still some funny moments.
Okay so I am kinda getting into the whole comedic part of the story for sure. Also, there was some action in this volume. This one was better than the first volume. I think I'm going to read more of this. I enjoyed reading this volume too much that I just inhaled it in one go. It was short I think. Meh. This was nice, more context.
Re-read: April 2018 This volume marked the introduction of one of my favorite characters in the series: Lucifer/Urushihara. I don't know why, but I really enjoy his character. He's a good contrast to all the happy-go-lucky characters that fill this series. Chiho also becomes more of a central character after this volume. I love her dynamic with Emi and Maou, and her blatantly obvious crush on Maou. I liked meeting Emi's friends from Ente Isla, but I was a bit dissapointed that they didn't do much. They just kind of showed up...and that's it. And from what I remember, they don't do much up to volume 8. Hopefully they do something useful eventually.
Original Review Better than the last one! Still not amazing, but definitely enjoyable.
This edition nicely finished the arc of the first light novel and teased some funny stuff from the future stories. Not really as plot heavy stuff but as comic relief.
I like how, as in the light novel, the characters were portrayed slightly differently from the anime. Emi was a little more sympathetic. And instead of being just misunderstood, Maou admits he did bad things and apologizes to Emi after she tearfully screams at him for his conquest of her home that killed her father and destroyed her home.
The artwork was fun, and the author had a good argument for how magic can work in our own mundane world.
Cute continuation. As with the anime series, I enjoy the characters, but I'm a little confused as to what happened to the villains' evilness. How did Satan and his general go from destroying and killing and conquering to the model employee, househusband duo they are in Japan? The change has yet to be explained.
I don't really know how I feel about this series right now. It's not boring, but it's not particularly interesting either. I totally love the concept... but as usually, the bad guy is becoming a good guy, and it's only volume 2 and I'm already over that. I'm reading the first five volumes for a monthly read, but I may not care to read after that. We'll see.
This was interesting to read after book 21 (yes, out of order—I have trouble finding volumes of this as is, much less in sequence), what with 1. Satan being all hot and all (haha...ha) and 2. Lucifer being... less awful "back then." It's also interesting because this is the end of the anime's first season?? Already??? They just PACKED in the content, huh?
On 1.: even :D
That said, I do prefer the newer art of the more recent volumes, which really did seem to intentionally play up his looks a bit. Like, Satan went from studly in what would be his teens in human years to grizzled war veteran to... reverting to some scrawny twerp when he crossed over into Japan. I'd be kind of annoyed, too!
...I don't know what else to add. The anime followed it pretty closely, I guess? If memory serves? Though I guess there must be some filler I don't remember (my Season 1 viewing was a while ago). It's good but not interesting enough for me to want to hang onto forever.
Did you know that the Devil worked a part time job? Well if you didn't know you should check out a book called The Devil Is A Part Timer. It's about the Devil who left hell to start a normal Human life but some of his devil servants don't like that. An angel who has fought the devil before came to help him. Before when they were enemies, the devil killed the angel's father but at the time the Devil could not control his power or himself. The Devil feels sorry for killing the angel's father. Lucifer comes to attack the devil because he's mad he left. That's all I'm going to say so if you wanna learn more check out the book, The Devil Is A Part Timer.
SPOILERS AHEAD
My favorite book in the series is the second one. I like the second book because it has a lot of action and it just goes back and forth. Other reasons why I like it is because, how many books are there where the devil is the main character NOT A LOT! Some of the other demons are evil and you would think the demons would be on the devils side. So the devil has to team up with angels. My favorite part is when the devil goes into his true form and uses his power. When he did that the book got so much better because we didn't know he had a true form and when he unleashed it, It was so cool and how strong he was is amazing.
Pretty good. Maou never actually went to work in this volume, which is kinda funny. My only criticism is that some times it is hard to tell whose talking because not every speech bubble has that little arrow thing.
I really need to get the rest of this series cuz it is one of my favorite and especially since the next season is coming out which I am so freaking excited for it'll just be a minute before I can buy the rest of the manga I only own one and two but hey it takes time.
This volume dumped in a bunch of new characters, making the plot harder to follow and lessening my enjoyment. The angels and devils do not conform to usual expectations; this allows the protagonist to be a likeable character.
An interesting continuation in the world. I like that Emi confronted Sadao about his character change but wish that it had lasted longer. Also, I liked that he refused to let the villains monologue and just spoke over them. A fun volume and I'm interested in continuing on.
This is a fun series, but I think the translation suffers a little bit. I'm not sure if I'll continue because the plot can be a little confusing. But I like the idea of these characters! 3/5 stars.
This book covers the rest of the first light novel. It doesn't have nearly as many shenanigans as the first one but there was a good amount of plot. And now onto more shenanigans in the next one!
I liked meeting Lucifer for the first time and the fighting scenes were pretty cool.
Edit: I don't think I'll continue the series. I feel like Sadao is far too kind given the fact that he's-oh y'know just Satan! He is supposed to be ruthless and evil in this other world and yet we get to see none of that. Might as well be a completely different character. Hopefully it explains this later on, but I'm not interested enough to see.
This volume was funnier and more action-packed than the first volume. I love the lightness and the characters. I highly recommend this series to anyone looking for something airy and different.
I really enjoyed this volume. I like getting more back story as to why there is conflict between the humans and demons in Ente Isla as well as seeing Maou become more of a leader rather than just bent on destruction. I liked the action sequence and the B-list movie script. That was enjoyable and I like seeing how the culture of Japan is affecting Maou's ideology overall and how he interacts with people. I think it will be interesting to see where this will go next.
