Last of the Duncans

Leaving behind the Highlands for the New World at the tender age of ten, Connor Duncan learned quickly that only the fit and the fortunate survive. As a scout and an expert marksman he is both...and a man to be reckoned with. But what is a rough-hewn frontiersman like him to do with a sheltered beauty like the governor's niece?

There seems to be no way to avoid the "Virgin Widow" when she insists on accompanying him on a mission through the wilderness to Fort Savannah. Neither capture, nor torture, nor the violent birth pangs of a young nation can keep them apart or stop the founding of a brand new dynasty of Duncans.

I've always been a writer. Ever since I could remember my biggest desire was to put words to paper. Finally my dreams of publication came true in 2002 with the release of Chase The Wind, the first book in my historical family saga. But I've also looked to the stars since I was a small girl. Which led to my writing of Futuristic Action Romance under the pen name Colby Hodge. And since I've got a knack for relating to teens, I also enjoy writing for them under the name Kassy Tayler.

And just so you know a bit about me. I've been married for several years to the man of my dreams. We've also raised two exceptional sons and enjoy life in the shadow of Pilot Mountain in NC where we share our home with a long haired dauschund and a cat who thinks she's the queen of the world.

This book came highly recommended from likesbook.com. As an ardent fan of the movie 'Last of the Mohicans' I have been wanting to read it for a while. I was not disappointed. It makes a great read but it somehow follows the template laid down by the movie rather too strictly. The author has blended history very well in this book and to her credit it works well on the plot. But I wish the conflict had not followed the movie's script too closely and had added more dimensions. That would have made this very interesting. But it still has its moments. And since the original 'Last of the Mohicans' is practically unreadable, I have to make do with this.

This book reminds me a little of "Last of the Mohicans". This is about a man that lived with and adopted Indian ways. He is a scout and gets involved with a mility man's daughter.

I would have given this four stars but it's a touch too derivative (Last of the Mohicans) to get full marks.
