Just because many of us live the life of singles or doubles doesn’t mean we should deny ourselves one of life’s finer pleasures: delicious, home-cooked meals! Move over, fast food . . . and watch out, takeout! Creative Cooking for One or Two has arrived. With recipes for soups, salads, entrées, baked goods, and desserts, there’s something in here for everyone (or two) looking to prepare meals that are tasty, satisfying, and won’t leave you with excessive leftovers. College students will appreciate that virtually every recipe in the book can be prepared using either a microwave or toaster oven or a hot plate. Couples learning to cook together will love the shopping tips, suggestions for appropriate cooking utensils, and easy-to-follow instructions. Health-conscious cooks are in luck, as each recipe includes an approximate calorie count.
Gotta say that I love when I find a bargain and this book was definitely one! I grabbed it off Amazon when it was $1.99 and it was a smart buy. It is loaded down with fantastic recipes...including breads which are often omitted in these 1-2 eater books. There were only a very small handful of recipes (mainly in the dessert section) that I didn't see myself eating.
I just wished I would have purchased the print version because I don't like taking my tablet into the kitchen.
I have tried a few recipes from this book and found them satisfying and easy to make with no leftovers for days! This is what I was looking for. Having ordered the kindle version when it went on sale, I suppose I lost the pictures. So when it came to describing rolling up dough for buns (I believe) I was confused by the words and unsure of which "ends" of the dough to pinch. Some or all, lengthwise or not, end to end....maybe I need more practise with baking these kinds of goods and this will make sense. All in all I am pleased so far. My best recipes for two however, come from America's Test Kitchen special magazine publications. They always work and describe their techniques and problems in detail.
59 yrs ago I received a cookbook for 2 for a wedding present. I learned to cook using that cookbook. We moved 4 times in the first 10 yrs of our married life and somehow in the moving the cookbook was lost. I was so sad! Today I found this cookbook, which is like an updated, new copy, combination of old and new recipes. I have spent the afternoon reviewing this cookbook and deciding what I want to try cooking first. I am so excited! Thanks for a trip back down memory lane and the chance to discover new and delicious food. Elaine
Great book for cooking for small groups of people. I lovevthat recipes are catalogued from easy to more complicated. Have already tried a couple. Recommended
I thought that the premise was a good one. Take a recipe, cut it way down for one or 2 people and see how it turns out. And at the beginning, I thought, yeah that works. But halfway through browsing I realized something wasn't right. It was the pictures. They are terrible. And make the food look awful. Poorly styled, very old school dishes and table settings/fabrics (which were not antique nor retro, just old) poor camera work. The cover photography was good, but the inside made the whole book look like a cookbook from the 80's. Too bad.
Classic recipes for couples. Simple food without leftovers, as promised.
I'm always telling my husband it's just the two of us, please halve the recipe. His response is always NO if your following the recipe then you should follow all of the instructions. Well, now he can.
Yes I agree these recipes aren't new ideas and the pictures are gross but the concept of less food waste is an important one. I'd like to see more cookbooks like this, not everyone has to feed six.
Creative Cooking for One or Two has many creative recipes for "empty nesters," or other families consisting of one or two members. Although I prefer to eat low-carb meals, I found many useful recipes... omelets, quiches, delicious soups, roasts, chicken cordon bleu, pineapple chicken, potato salads, cobb salads... even fondue on a bun. Recipes are rated as to difficulty. This is a nice cookbook.
So I'm a decently boring cook with allergies and intolerances but I like to try to get new ideas. This book didn't inspire me and the majority were just too.. fancy?.. for my taste. It was alright but not good for me.
