Ruby arrives in Verdanturf Town ready to participate in his first Hoenn region Pokemon Contest. It looks like his dream of becoming the Pokemon Contest Champion is finally back on track! But soon he gets sidetracked yet again when he is asked to rescue a Trainer from a Rusturf Tunnel collapse. Could Team Magma be behind this latest unnatural disaster...?
Then, both Ruby and Sapphire begin a losing streak...
Meanwhile, the Hoenn Gym Leaders can't agree... Which group is evil? Team Magma or Team Aqua...or both?!
Meh. Much like previous volumes of this series it just kind of goes through the motions. The dual narrations is what really drags it down to an almost halt plot wise. I really only care about Norman and I don't think we're even supposed to like him. Maybe if this wasn't aimed for children and the stakes were raised a bit I'd like it better. But it just sort of chugs along with too many plot points that aren't very interesting.
This manga really sets up the stakes between the protagonists and the two evil teams in a deeply enticing way, portraying those GBA sprites in a way that I really didn't appreciate. It's a lot darker and gripping in these chapters.
This was a good book. I'm not quite sure why all the gym leaders have to decide which organization is evil or not, otherwise I loved it. Ruby is finally getting headway in his goal.
While the last volume was a little meh at the end (idk, the Mt. Chimney storyline was always a little boring to me), I love how this picked everything up. The Gym Leaders all meeting and debating, Ruby up in Fallarbor with Wallace, Sapphire making her way into Fortree. It all had great momentum that never really slowed down.
This book is one of my favorites. This book is about a boy Ruby age 11,and a girl Sapphire age 10 who don't meet until towards the end of the book. They both have different goals.Sapphire wants to defeat all 8 gym leaders an Ruby wants to win every pokemon beauty contest. When I started I flipped the goals the other way until I saw what was happening in the pictures.in this story two legendary pokemon are about to awaken and cause mass destruction which is the reason the volcanoes are cooling down and the sea level is rising so the gym leaders are trying to (when they awaken) find a way to protect the hoenn region. To read this book you have to read it right to left to keep it in the original japanese format. It is a graphic noval what and what I call a long comic book.
This volume was very fun and I really am liking the Horn region a lot more this time around. I am however, not a fan of Ruby as a main character and think he needs a little more development.
