The year is 2097, but the future is not our own.

It's so good to get back to this.

Three years, wow.

Overall, saddened to revisit some of the characters. None of it's unreasonable, of course, just... Damn. Feels less dated than the original HoE, which is just not surprising.

Need to, at some point (in my copious free time, hah) standardize the titles on these things.

so here's the big flaw for this book. HoE had a metaplot that wrapped up in a big giant adventure that sent all the big bads into space and brought all the major faction into big giant fight that nearly crippled each of them. This moves past that point, so the story is mostly about reconstruction without any giant looming threat to humanity.

a plot point would have been nice, too.
