The twins' 13th adventure finds Olivia on location and Ivy having an identity crisis
Olivia's living it up in London on the set of her film, Eternal Sunset. But all she can think about is ex-boyfriend and co-star, Jackson. Meanwhile Ivy is in for a shock when she starts high school; suddenly the goths are the in-crowd! How will Ivy cope when she becomes instantly popular and her trademark death-squint loses its power to stop a bunny at 10 paces?
Sienna Mercer grew up in Toronto, Canada. She was an only child, and always wanted a brother or sister – especially a twin. A twin would have been awesome! Sadly, she never got that sister so, when she was grown up, she did the next best thing - she wrote books about a girl who reminded her of herself, and gave her the most fun, fabulous twin she could think of!
Sienna began writing stories when she was a teenager, on a very wet day in Toronto when her cheerleading practice was cancelled - and she has not stopped writing since. She used to write in red leather notebooks while sat on her bed, but now does most of her writing in her attic, which is quite dark, and has some spooky cobwebs in the corners - the perfect location for thinking about vampires. She doesn't use red notebooks anymore, either, although she keeps them in a chest by her desk in the attic.
Sienna got the idea for My Sister the Vampire from a daydream she had - what if she had a super-cool twin sister... who was a vampire? She loved the characters - and their kooky friends and family - so much that she just had to keep writing about them.
When she's not daydreaming about vampires and cheerleading, Sienna enjoys travelling and exploring new cities, and keeps a detailed scrapbook of everywhere she’s visited. She lives in Toronto, kept company by Calypso and Angel – her two gorgeous cats. She is happily writing away and we wait for her upcoming books!
Firstly, I must make it clear to anyone who is confused that this book was originally published as 'Double Disaster'. Next I have to say.... AWESOME! Sorry to any of those who aren't reading it, or planning to read it soon, but Olivia and Jackson were ADORABLE!! It was soooo romantic!
It has been three years since I read the 12th book in this series which led me to reading all of my previous book reviews on the first book to the twelfth book in the series. So that I would be able to recall the events that happened in the previous books.
Let me start by saying I HAVE MISSED THIS SERIES SO MUCH! Sienna Mercer is the queen of Intermediate or tween books, in my opinion. Even as a young adult and reading her books as a young adult makes me have so much respect for her because her works captivate me with awe and excitement. That even if this was meant for a younger audience I enjoy it in the eyes of one (and it also helps that I'm a child-at-heart). I also read this in the level of a tween so that I can recommend my future students to read it.
Note: Just to let you know... Throughout all my book reviews in this series I have never spoiled or spoiled little information about the stories in each book and I want to continue that tradition I have unexpectedly made for myself. Don't worry though, I will put the spoiler tags. :)
Okay. I'll start with the wedding. So the last thing I remember from this series was the upcoming wedding plans for Charles Vega and Lillian. I even stated in my review of the 12th book that I expected this book to be the plot that circles around the wedding. Unfortunately it isn't. The wedding was barely mentioned actually. There weren't details about the planning, decorations, cake, dress, drama, tears, etc. But it was nice to know some facts about it. I guess if Ms. Mercer did focus on the wedding as the plot for this book it wouldn't be as much as a My Sister The Vampire book. So it was okay that the wedding plot plan that I had in my head didn't happen. I understood.
As for Olivia's side of the story: Eternal Sunset filming in UK, leaving Franklin Grove, pause on her education, and reuniting with Jackson. SWOON! I really fell in love with Olivia and Jackson's journey in the other books and when they broke up I completely fell apart as much as they both did. Also I loved knowing dreamy things about England and how posh it is there and how much I'd love to visit if I ever got the chance.
As for Ivy's side of the story, I felt that it was more in the spotlight's than Olivia's. Just because of the whole idea of starting high school and the drama and dilemmas that come along with change and having to experience something new. There were a lot of new characters like Finn the skater boy and Amelia the goth queen. But there were also familiar faces that were mentioned like Charlotte the ex-mean-queen bee of Franklin Grove Middle School and Camilla the sci-fi loving director. I love it that Sophia is back and has a lot more input in the story . Ivy and Brendan, ugh, the love just consumes me. I swear these two are my favorite couple sometimes. I dont know. Ugh. Just. So. Freakin. Sweet.
Ivy has a lot of struggles in this book . A lot of these struggles comes to play with her character and who she is now as she is older and is in a new environment. I felt the same way as she did with all of the hardships she has encountered in different situations in my life that don't particularly focus with popularity and high school. And I think I have the same views and emotions as Ivy in dealing with it all. This touches me because having to have a connection with a character makes me feel like I'm not alone.
As always, the endings are the greatest and exciting parts about this series. It always ends well and good but also leaves a bit of what will happen next in the following book - which makes you excited for it. That's all really. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
I remember reading this six years ago, I remember loving the whole idea and the characters so much. But reading it now is a whole different experience. My taste has definitely changed over the years but I still can't help but love this book!!! It's always so lovely to come back to this whenever I'm looking for a short and easy read. Sienna Mercer is a very talented author and she executes the idea so well, no matter how many times I read it it never stops making me smile and laugh. I would definitely recommend this book to young readers interested in fantasy or romance. Double Disaster was a very interesting yet frustrating read. It was frustrating wherever Jackson was concerned. Sometimes I just don't understand what is happening in their relationship and I hope it will be clearer as I continue re-reading the series. I really loved what was happening with Sophie. It's kind of realistic(Not like some other books I've read). And as always I love the relationship between Ivy and Brendan. I hope everything works out fine for Olivia in the next books.
I really enjoyed this book because it had drama in it and I love the way Sienna Mercer wrote the book. I rate this book 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. It was an amazing read.
The title is called My Sister the Vampire Double Disaster by Sienna Mercer. The type of book is fiction because of the vampires. The characters are twins who were separated from birth named Olivia and Ivy. Olivia is a human while Ivy is the vampire. Olivia is in London filming her movie called Eternal Sunset and her co-star is Jackson Caulfied a world famous teen actor. When Ivy begins high school she suddenly becomes popular. The theme is “do not change your appearance for someone else, just be yourself.” The story is told in third person. The plot is about Olivia filming who in London with her ex boyfriend and Ivy becomes popular at high school. The intended audience is for young-teen and the genre is fiction because vampires aren’t real. The author kept me interested because it is easy to read and there aren’t that many hard words. The author’s style is contemporary so that young teen can relate to the characters in the story. The book affected me because when I read it, it made me think vampires were real .Also it made me want me to read more it made me think about the Twilight series. Before I read the book I didn’t know that vampires like rock music. It changed my view by vampires and humans can be twins. I like it that it wasn’t boring and it was fun. I didn’t like it that it was so short because I wanted to know more. Make another book because I checked on Amazon and it didn’t have any new books. Juliann Lee Oct.27,2013 Rating****
In my opinion, this book was a bit of a downgrade from the previous ones in the series. It definitely wasn't awful, and it was an enjoyable book, but I had some definite problems with it. These were; the way that Londoners were portrayed as speaking Cockney all the time (seriously, people haven't done that to that scale since like, the 19th century) and the way that Ivy's sudden popularity was portrayed (it was unrealistic and just agravating). I also thought, for the most part of the book, Jackson was acting really weird, and although we did find out his motives for his behaviour in the end, he did THE WORST job in the world at keeping it hidden (I thought he was supposed to be an actor!). Plus that scene at lunchtime in the cafeteria where Ivy bumped into that bunny, for some reason drove me crazy. I know that there has to be some kind of conflict or problem to solve, but asdfghjkl I just hate that scene so much!
Anyways, onto more positive thoughts, I did like that in this book Sophia had a main storyline, and the way said storyline was resolved, plus the incorporation of the new character Will was awesome too. And I can't deny that although all the Olivia and Jackson stuff could sometimes be a little silly and melodramatic, it was pretty cute. Recommended to MSTV fans, but definitely not one of my favourites.
I read it in only one day it was so good! I was kind of surprised that Sophia would crush on a blonde guy who rides a skateboard! I wasn't all that happy that they had been put in to two different schools because I preferred it when they all went to Franklin Grove Middle School. I thought it was funny how Sophia went so far to impress Finn the skateboard boy she went and got a blonde pixie cut! So not Goth! I was also happy that Sophia's character is returning a bit more because in the last few you hear her mentioned once or twice at the most! Seeing Olivia filming a movie in London is very cool, and I also thought it was cool how she and Jackson rekindled their romance. I was kind of glad that Olivia wasn't as emotional about Jackson. It was so funny how Ivy kept referring to the school bus as a banana on wheels!Overall it was very well-written and plotted.

I like these probably only because I started to read them when I was around 8 but now that I'm older I find that I'm not as curious as I was when I first started reading them cause the seires has started going on for a bit I find its kinda predictable. This book was okay definitely read it if you are quite young and want to start exploring romance novels but want to start of small!
Jackson is back- I am so happy! Olivia & Jackson are so cute together! It's the cutest book I've read so far this year! The ending especially was so cute my mouth ached because I was smiling like mad! Definite 5 stars for this.
I thought what Jackson did for Olivia was so sweet and romantic. Although with Ivy I wonder why everyone thinks she's so cool. I mean she's a normal girl well, as normal as vampire girl can get. But I do love ALL my sister the vampire books I mean ALL.
