I never thought that I would be this lukewarm about Grimm Fairy Tales. Maybe it's because I read this so soon after reading the Robyn Hood installment.
But I think it's mostly the artwork. Despite the cover illustration, the art put me off. I'm not sure why. It's far better than I can do, but there was something about it. Maybe it was just a result of reading it via Adobe.
The story line is okay, but it seems to lack the power that some of the other Grimm tales had.
This installment left me rather cold. Though, I do like what was done with Venus, and it is nice to see Sela kick butt.
So all the endings of previous 4 volumes come together here and all our heroes and villains fight on. People meet people die people fight people and of course all have powers. Nice series.
I have always loved comics, and I hope that I will always love them. Even though I grew up reading local Indian comics like Raj Comics or Diamond Comics or even Manoj Comics, now's the time to catch up on the international and classic comics and Graphic novels. I am on my quest to read as many comics as I can. I Love comics to bit, may comics never leave my side. I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and then just Keep on Reading.
Lots of really good action and the illustrations are pretty good, but because this is Volume 5 and I haven't read this series before I was lost in the lack of story line.
After reading the first four volumes I thought that this would be another stand alone volume in the Myths and Legends series, but I was wrong. It takes characters from those books and creates a new story. This was a happy surprise. But the execution was average. The story needed to be fleshed out and extended much more.
The story had all the makings of a Dream Eaters Saga or the amazing Age of Darkness Series, but the build up very disappointingly fizzles out. I was disappointed in how it ended and the characters like Sea Witch, Gina, Erica, Marcus, Hank, Brittany, and especially my favorite Cindy seems to be just extras tossed in for filler.
The art is fine. It is done by different artists. Some of the elongated faces is not to my liking, however the fire effects are really well done.
Great way to close off a side series and leave it with a possible incorporation to the main story line. I enjoyed the final battle between the two groups that were introduced and how the characters from the main story line were brought in to help near the end. The story would be very confusing to a person that has not read any of the main storyline and would think the ending had a deus ex machina twist but it completely isn't. If you're a fan of the other Grimm Fairy Tales stories Zenescope has produced so far, you will also enjoy this.
As this was the first book in this particular series I had read, I had to get myself up to speed in regard to who is who and who works against who. This is a typical super-powered fantasy comic that is tied into other Grimm Fairy Tales series that I have read. Will be interesting to see how this all plays out in future issues.
what should have been an epic conclusion was mediocre at best. it pains me to say this, but the art was just terrible. it really took away from the story and all the action going on because i was so distracted trying to guess what was drawn. The lack of detail, the coloring, idk, just everything about the art was sub par. If only the art had been decent because the story was there...
The Myths And Legends series finale pits the evil sorceress, Baba Yaga, and her evil cohorts, against Sela Mathers and the forces of good in a battle to control Helios, who if released into this world will leave a wake of burning chaos. Wow! Highly recommended.
