About the author

Humayun Ahmed (Bengali: হুমায়ূন আহমেদ; 13 November 1948 – 19 July 2012) was a Bangladeshi author, dramatist, screenwriter, playwright and filmmaker. He was the most famous and popular author, dramatist and filmmaker ever to grace the cultural world of Bangladesh since its independence in 1971. Dawn referred to him as the cultural legend of Bangladesh. Humayun started his journey to reach fame with the publication of his novel Nondito Noroke (In Blissful Hell) in 1972, which remains one of his most famous works. He wrote over 250 fiction and non-fiction books, all of which were bestsellers in Bangladesh, most of them were number one bestsellers of their respective years by a wide margin. In recognition to the works of Humayun, Times of India wrote, "Humayun was a custodian of the Bangladeshi literary culture whose contribution single-handedly shifted the capital of Bengali literature from Kolkata to Dhaka without any war or revolution." Ahmed's writing style was characterized as "Magic Realism." Sunil Gangopadhyay described him as the most popular writer in the Bengali language for a century and according to him, Ahmed was even more popular than Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. Ahmed's books have been the top sellers at the Ekushey Book Fair during every years of the 1990s and 2000s.

Early life:
Humayun Ahmed was born in Mohongonj, Netrokona, but his village home is Kutubpur, Mymensingh, Bangladesh (then East Pakistan). His father, Faizur Rahman Ahmed, a police officer and writer, was killed by Pakistani military during the liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971, and his mother is Ayesha Foyez. Humayun's younger brother, Muhammed Zafar Iqbal, a university professor, is also a very popular author of mostly science fiction genre and Children's Literature. Another brother, Ahsan Habib, the editor of Unmad, a cartoon magazine, and one of the most famous Cartoonist in the country.

Education and Early Career:
Ahmed went to schools in Sylhet, Comilla, Chittagong, Dinajpur and Bogra as his father lived in different places upon official assignment. Ahmed passed SSC exam from Bogra Zilla School in 1965. He stood second in the merit list in Rajshahi Education Board. He passed HSC exam from Dhaka College in 1967. He studied Chemistry in Dhaka University and earned BSc (Honors) and MSc with First Class distinction.

Upon graduation Ahmed joined Bangladesh Agricultural University as a lecturer. After six months he joined Dhaka University as a faculty of the Department of Chemistry. Later he attended North Dakota State University for his PhD studies. He grew his interest in Polymer Chemistry and earned his PhD in that subject. He returned to Bangladesh and resumed his teaching career in Dhaka University. In mid 1990s he left the faculty job to devote all his time to writing, playwright and film production.

Marriages and Personal Life:
In 1973, Humayun Ahmed married Gultekin. They had three daughters — Nova, Sheela, Bipasha and one son — Nuhash. In 2003 Humayun divorced Gultekin and married Meher Afroj Shaon in 2005. From the second marriage he had two sons — Nishad and Ninit.

Death:
In 2011 Ahmed had been diagnosed with colorectal cancer. He died on 19 July 2012 at 11.20 PM BST at Bellevue Hospital in New York City. He was buried in Nuhash Palli, his farm house.

বিপদ গল্পটা এই নিয়ে হয়তো আমার ৪ থেকে ৫ বারের মত পড়া হবে। এর আগে যতবার পড়েছি শুধু হাস্যরসাত্মক দিক গুলোই চোখে পরেছে। কিন্তু গল্পটা কি শুধু এইটুই ?
গল্পের খাতিরে লেখক মনস্ত্বাস্ততিক যে দিক তুলে এনেছেন তা হয়তো পুরোপুরি অনুধাবন করা যায়নি , কিন্তু কখনো যদি আমরা ভাবার চেষ্টা করি তাহলে ব্যাপার গুলোর সীমাবদ্ধতার বাইরে গিয়ে ভাবলে চিন্তার খোরাক হবে।

মিসির আলির আরেকটা অদ্ভুত কেস। এক ভদ্রলোক কে নিয়ে কাহিনী যে কিনা হঠাত বিড়ালের কথা বুঝতে পারে।
কোন পরিণতি নাই কাহিনীর, তবে সত্যি কথা বলতে হয়ত হুমায়ূন আহমেদের লেখা বাজারের লিস্ট ও আমার ভালোই লাগবে। এটাও ব্যতিক্রম না।
আর হ্যা, বই এর শেষে মা বেড়ালটার জন্য অনেক খারাপ লাগলো। :/

প্রকৃতি এত সুন্দর করে নিজেকে শুধু মানুষের জন্যই সাজায় না; তার সমস্ত জীবজগতের জন্যই সাজায়। আর মানুষ মনে করে শুধু তার জন্যই বুঝি সাজিয়েছে। পাখি মনে করে তার জন্য, বারান্দায় বসে থাকা মা বিড়াল মনে করে তাদের জন্য। সে হয়ত তার শিশুটিকে ডেকে বলে, "মা দেখ দেখ কি সুন্দর!"

নতুন বছরের প্রথম বই। গত বছর বই পড়ার ক্ষেত্রে বাজে একটা বছর গেছে কাজের চাপ ও অন্যান্য ব্যস্ততায়। আশা করি এই বছরটা ভালো যাবে।
মিসির আলি দিয়ে বছর শুরু করতে পারাটা মন্দ না।
বইটার কাহিনী খুবই সরল-সোজা। তবে লেখক যখন হুমায়ূন, তখন সরল সোজা কাহিনীও জমে ওঠে। এখানকার অদ্ভুত রহস্যটা অতটা ঘণীভূত না হলেও যুক্তিটা ভালো লেগেছে। বিড়ালপ্রেমীদের ভালো লাগবে মিসির আলির এই রহস্য।

এত পিচ্চি একটা বই ৩০ -৪০ মিনিটে শেষ। আফসার সাহেব বিড়ালের কথা বুজতে পারেন তবে শুধু মাত্র তার বাসায় থাকে সে বিড়ালের।
খুব একটা ভালো লাগেনি।শেষটাই মন খারাপ লেগেছে।
#এখানে মিসির আলীর তেমন কোন অবদান নাই।আর গল্পটার কোন মাথামুণ্ডু নাই।একজন মানুষ বিড়ালের কথা বুজতে পারেন এবং তার সাথে তার নিজস্ব জীবনে অনেক সমস্যা চলছে। তার ফ্যামিলি আর আশেপাশের মানুষ ধরে নিচ্ছে এর পিছনে বিড়াল দায়ী বা লোকটা অস্বাভাবিক। সত্যি কি তাই!! মানুষ নির্মম আর সে তার গন্ডির বাইরে কোন কিছুই স্বাভাবিক ভাবে নিতে পারে না।মানুষ ভাবে সবকিছু তার জন্য।কিন্তু আসলেই কী সবকিছু এত সহজ -সরল।

বেশ অন্যরকম একটা বিষয় নিয়ে লেখা। কোন মানুষ যদি হঠাৎ করেই পশুপাখির ভাষা বুঝতে শুরু করে তাহলে তার সমস্যা কি কি হতে পারে সেই বিষয়ে অত্যন্ত গুরুত্ব সহকারে লেখা হয়েছে। এই ভাবনা সত্যিই হুমায়ূন আহমেদের লেখার গুণ। এবং মিসির আলি তার নিজস্ব ভঙ্গিমায় সহজাত যুক্তিসঙ্গত সমাধান বের করেছেন।

সহজ একটা ব্যাপার, কি সুন্দর ফুটিয়ে তুললেন লেখক। সত্যিই তো, প্রকৃতি মানুষের একার তো নয়, তার সমস্ত জীবজগতের। আমরাই স্বার্থপর আসলে।

খুব একটা মনে রাখার মতো কিছু নয়। একটু অন্য ধাঁচের মিসির আলী কাহিনী। ভয়ডরহীন, তবে শেষটুকু হৃদয়বিদারক। মন ভরল না যেন।

এই বইটি আমার কাছে খুব বোরিং লেগেছে। এই বইটি পড়ার সময় আমি খুব কষ্টে মনোযোগ দিতে পেরেছি।

গল্পটি এঙ্গেজিং ছিল না, । চরিত্রগুলো তেমন ভালো লাগে নেই আমার কাছে এবং সমস্যার পুরো কারনটিও হালকা মনে হয়েছে। সমাপ্তি পড়ে মনে হয়েছে যেন সহানুভূতির ভিক্ষা চাচ্ছে। সিম্পথি ট্র্যাপ আরকি। কিন্তু আমার কাছে, সমাপ্তি বেশ খারাপ মনে হয়েছে এবং আরো ভালো ভাবে করা যেত আমার মতে।

বইয়ের বেস্ট পার্ট ছিলো মিসির আলি যখন অন্যান্য চরিত্রের সাথে কথা বলছিলেন। যুক্তি দিয়ে মানুষের দৃষ্টি আকর্ষণ করা মিসির আলি খুব ভালোই জানেন। এছাড়া, বইয়ে মিসির আলি একটি অচেনা বালককে বিশ্বাস করে তার সমস্ত জিনিসপত্র হারানোর ব্যাপারটা ছিল বেশ হাস্যকর।

This book felt super boring to me. I barely managed to keep my concentration while reading this book.

The whole story of the book wasn't engaging. The characters weren't that likable, and the whole cause of the trouble also seemed mild. The ending felt like it was begging for sympathy. A last ditch effort to make people like the book. But to me, the ending felt horrible and poorly done.

The best part was when Misir Ali interacted with the other characters. It was kinda cool. Also, Misir Ali losing all his belongings by trusting a random boy was hilarious.

নামের সাথে গল্পের মিল নেই। পড়া শুরু করার পর মনে হলো কাফকা ইন দ্যা শোর এর মতো হবে কিছু একটা। মিসির আলি সিরিজের একটাই দুর্বলতা আমি মনে করি, সেটা হলো গল্প গুলো অনেক ছোটো।

কিউট একটা বই।প্রথম দিকে পড়তে খুব মজা লাগছিলো কিন্তুু শেষে এসে বিড়ালগুলোর জন্য মনটা খুব খারাপ হয়ে গেলো।মা বিড়ালটা কী ম্যাচিউর বাবা!আমার বাসায় বিড়াল নিয়ে অনেক বেশিই কাহিনী আছে।তার মধ্যে ২টা বিড়াল অন্যতম, মাশেল আর আদামা।মাশেল কে আমি মাশেল আন্টি বলে ডাকতাম।বিড়াল ২ টাকে খুবই জ্বালাতন করতাম আমি, বিশেষ করে আদামাকে কারণ ওরে আমি কোনোদিন শুয়ে থাকা আর খাওয়া বাদ দিয়ে দৌড়াতে দেখেছি বলে মনে পড়েনা।ওদের কথা খুব মনে পড়লো, জানিনা ওরা এই পৃথিবীতে আর আছে কিনা!

মিসির আলি সিরিজের সপ্তম বই 'বিপদ'। একেবারেই ছোট একটা বই। এক বসায় পড়ার মতো।

আফসার উদ্দিন একটি জাহাজ কোম্পানিতে চাকরি করেন। বেশ গুরুগম্ভীর মানুষ তিনি। স্ত্রী মীরা এবং দুই মেয়ে রুমী ও সুমীকে নিয়ে সুখের সংসার। তবে আফসার উদ্দিনের কাছে সবচেয়ে বিষয় কোনো বিষয় নিয়ে হাসাহাসি করে। তিনি নিজে কখনো হাসেন না; যারা হাসে তাদেরও তিনি দেখতে পারেন না। দুই মেয়ের বয়স কম, তাই তারা কারণে অকারণে হাসাহাসি করে। এই কারণে তখন তাদের বকাঝকাও করেন।

এক সোমবারে খাবার টেবিলে বাড়ির বিড়াল আফসার উদ্দিনের কোলে লাফিয়ে উঠে। তখন খাবারের প্লেট মেঝেতে পড়ে যায় এবং সবাই হেসে উঠে। এতেই ক্ষিপ্ত হন আফসার সাহেব। সবাইকে তাড়িয়ে দিয়ে তিনি যখন বসে আছেন, তখন তিনি সেই বিড়াল ও তার বাচ্চাদের কথাবার্তা শুনতে পান। প্রথমে ভুল ভাবলেও তাঁর বিশ্বাস হয়, বিড়াল নিজেদের মধ্যে কথা বলছে। বাড়ির মানুষদের বললে তারা অবিশ্বাসের সুরে কথা বলে। সবাই ভাবে হয়তো কোনো মানসিক অসুস্থতা। এই অবস্থায় মীরার ভাই মহসিনের পরামর্শে আফসার উদ্দিন মিসির আলির সাথে দেখা করেন। মিসির আলি কি পারবেন আফসার উদ্দিনকে বিপদ থেকে মুক্ত করতে?

বইটা তেমন ভালো লাগেনি। একে ত ছোট বই, তার উপর হুট করেই শেষ করা হয়েছে। আগের বইগুলোতে মিসির আলিকে ক্লিনিক্যাল সাইকোলজির শিক্ষক বলা হয়েছিল। এই বইতে প্যারাসাইকোলজির শিক্ষক বলা হয়েছে। হয়তো লেখকের ভুল, যেহেতু দুইটা বিষয় আলাদা। হ্যাপি রিডিং।

It didn't quite struck me like I thought it would. Sure, the book reveals a wide acknowledgement about this earth being a world not only for us, humans but just as much for other animals and plants. Though we, are just much too self-engrossed to look far upto that.

Though this whole concept and the last-page-tragedy weren't enough for me. Like any other time, when I pick up a Misir Ali book, I look forward to getting those glimpses of logic, the mystery being solved in a completely different angle, which just wasn't in this one. To be true, things felt somewhat unfinished, or maybe I couldn't quite grasp the 'mystery-solved' part.

সবাই পারফেক্ট হয় না। লেখকও নন। পুরোটা পড়ার পরে এটাই মনে হয়েছে যে লেখক স্রেফ প্রকাশকের একটা বই দরকার ছাপানোর জন্য এজন্যই লিখে দিয়েছেন, না আছে এ গল্পে ভালো প্লট আর না আছে কোনো উত্তেজনা। মিসির আলী যেন মিইয়ে গেছে এ গল্পে।

সহজ সরল মন ভালো করে দেয় এমন একটা গল্প। টেলিপ্যাথি মিসির আলি গল্পের একটা কমন বিষয়, দেবী, নিশিথীনি, অন্যভুবন এই গল্পগুলোতেও ছিলো। আর এইখানে বিড়ালের সাথে টেলিপ্যাথিক কানেকশন। ক্যাট লাভারদের মাস্ট রিড।

রেটিংঃ ৩.৫ তারা।
মূল ঘটনা আফসার সাহের তার স্ত্রী, মিসির আলী সাহেব এবং বিড়ালকে নিয়ে। আফসার সাহেব বিড়ালের কথা বুঝতে পারে এবং এটা একসময় তার জন্য বিপদ তথা মানসিক সমস্যার রুপ নেয়। গুজব ছড়ে চারপাশে তিনি নাকি বিড়াল হয়ে গেছে এবং সবশেষে তারা তাদের বাসা ছেড়ে অন্যত্র বাসা নেয় তবুও সমস্যার সমাধান হয়না । এর আগেই তারা অবশ্য মিসির আলী সাহেবের সাথে যোগাযোগ করেছেন এবং এর পিছনে তিনি কিছু যুক্তিও দ্বার করিয়েছেন কিন্তু পুরোপুরি সমস্যার সমাধান করতে পারি নি এই গল্পে....

This one was unusual due to the hilarious comical and humorous elements in it. I was surprised as I didn't expected it to be a story with such funny dialogues and turns, though it has seriousness enough for its part. Excellent fluid read as well. The ending was a bit sad, yet set the reader free. And also, it makes you think, just like it's predecessors on the grave damages we are inflicting on mother earth and other species.

এখানে তেমন কিছুই ঘটে নি। আগে হলে এই বই কেমন লাগত জানি না, কিন্তু এখন আমার নিজের একটা বিড়াল আছে। তাই সমগ্র বিড়াল জাতির সাথে আলাদারকম আত্মীয়তা অনুভব করি। রাস্তাঘাটে যেখানে যখন দেখি মনে হয় এদের সবাইকে আমি চিনি, এরাও আমাকে চেনে। বিড়ালদের দুঃখভোগের ব্যাপারটাতে খুব কষ্ট পেয়েছি।
তবে মিসির আলীকে এখানে পেয়েছি কম। তার তেমন কোন ভূমিকা ছিল না। তারপরেও, মিসির আলী সেই অল্পতেও অনেক!

এ বছর বই পড়ার শুরুটা হলো এই "বিপদ" দিয়ে! এক লোক হঠাৎ করে বিড়ালের কথা বুঝতে পারছে, তাই নিয়ে নানা কাহিনী। শুনতে ভারী ছেলেমানুষি মনে হলেও ব্যাপারটা তেমন নয়। জগৎ বড়ই রহস্যময়- এই কথার উপরই যেন গল্পটা দাঁড়িয়ে আছে। জগতের রহস্যময়তা হারিয়ে দেয় মিসির আলিকেও!

পড়তে পড়তে বিড়ালের প্রতি একটা মায়াবোধ সৃষ্টি হয়েছে। আর শেষের দিকটা খারাপ লেগেছে
