Have You Seen Her?

Rate this book
Since the accident, Jack Logan always feels dirty.

He knows it's the guilt. The successful money manager had yet to get his priorities straight - a flaw that led him to break a promise and cost him both his wife and his unborn daughter. Now his life is a maddening series of obsessions and rituals that alienate his friends and plague his mind.

Jack spirals out of control until a postcard arrives in the mail with a photo of a missing, hauntingly familiar, girl.

Jack pours his grief and diminished sanity into finding the runaway who looks so much like his wife. Why would she run away? Why doesn't her father seem to care? And why does his sister-in-law seem to care so much? Jack's search for a girl he's never met takes him down dangerous streets and to shady corners of his wife's past, where he uncovers a truth that shakes his perception of reality. Or does it?

Early reviews call 'Have You Seen Her?' a "riveting psychological thriller," and debut novelist Rich Silvers a "diabolically clever writer."

Goodreads giveaway book.
Hm... maybe I'll have a better-formed opinion of this book once I've a had a few hours to sit on it. The book started out really slowly; it was hard to get into and a little hard to empathize with the main character because he seemed really whiny. However, I really enjoyed the portrayal of his anxiety attacks. The style of writing at those points really got across the point of how much his disorder affected him. Once the meat of the book got started, I liked it a lot more, following the characters as they tried to figure out the truth and find the missing girl. The main character's pain seemed a lot more visceral than in the beginning, and I started to "get" his compulsions and the reasons behind them and like his character a lot more.

The ending really took me by surprise, though, looking back, I figure I shouldn't have been surprised. At this moment, I enjoyed the ending, but that could easily change because 1. I didn't feel it was developed enough, and 2. I feel like there should have been hints at it throughout the book because it was a really jarring and uncomfortable (because it was so jarring, not because it wasn't good) twist, when I know it shouldn't have felt that way, and I really wish it wasn't so that I could like the ending more.

I honestly do hope Mr. Silvers writes more; his style in this book was choppy, but for all the right reasons (to emphasize the main character's mindset), and he's got some pretty creative ideas in terms of story line that were complex enough for secrets to be revealed throughout the book and keep you interested, but simple enough to follow the whole way through and not have to continuously be checking back to see what you missed previously. I think that, if he continues developing his techniques and style, his books will definitely be good reads.

Short review due to being one handed! Loved this book. The writing is fast paced and the plot has a memorizing quality to it. It's about secrets, obsession and redemption. The dialogue is great and i didn't see the ending coming. I don't understand the low average score. Very good and highly recommended.

Not sure I can get through this one. I got it as Kindle Freebie, and lately I am finding the free books to be free for a reason. The writing is so elementary school!

What a wonderful book! I could read it again and again

This book grabs you right from the start , and never lets go even through the s.urprising end. I am not done, I still want to talk to Jack, I don't want it to end. I need to know more. I really loved him. A perfect my and friend. You have to read this book, you can't miss out on these wonderful and awful characters. This book will be on my list to recommend forever. Truly one of the best books I have read. I read five books a week so that is really saying something. 10 stars in a scale of 1 to 5.

Great read...but I want more!!!

When you feel compassion for a character you want more story after the story! The author has left me wanting more, a part 2, a series, something that doesn't leave me wondering what next. The author is new to me and after I click submit I'll be looking for more titles. Who knows maybe there is more to the story in another book. Either way thank you for an enjoyable afternoon.

The ending was such a "Wait..what!? Omg" moment that I just had to give this book 5 stars. I admit I was a bit frustrated in some areas of the book because of how the dialogue was transpiring, but upon reflection of how the book ended, it was completely necessary to Jack's character. Keep trudging and finish the book! I'd love for this to be made into a movie. Think... Shelter Island 😉

Suspenseful Thriller

Things aren't always as they seem. This is a well written story with very in depth characters and a plot you won't suspect.

A captivating study of guilt, obsession, and secrets.

Have you ever thought about the secrets your husband or wife might be hiding? Sure, you know your spouse intimately, but do you know everything about their past? When Jack Logan’s pregnant wife Susan dies in a car crash, he’s wracked with guilt and despair. He can’t return to his investment firm and his obsessive compulsive habits threaten to spiral out of control. One day he receives a post card with the picture of a missing teenage girl named Alison and everything changes.

The girl looks like a younger version of his beloved Susan. Their new baby was going to be named Alyson, and the coincidence is unnerving. Jack’s OCD kicks in and he’s compelled to find the girl. The search reveals facts he never knew about Susan, and he wonders if he really knew his wife. Why did Susan keep so many secrets? Who is the missing girl, and what will happen when he finds her?

Rich Silvers researched his subject and presented a convincing portrait of a man suffering with obsessive compulsive disorder. As a reader I felt the pain of the man, understood his guilt, and empathized with the ordeal he was suffering. The twists and turns of the plot are so well executed that the surprise ending is a shocker. I was so unprepared for the final chapter that I backtracked to make sure I hadn’t missed something. Good job Rich! You made me rethink the whole story and wonder what happens next.

I know that this is your first book Rich Silvers so I feel bad for giving you a two star rating.... But I made it to 34% and couldn't read anymore. The plot is all over the place and I'm really confused. I can't figure out why, because his wife was in an accident that would make him OCD. I thought maybe there was "blood on his hands" but as soon as his wife died things took off in a drastic crazy pace. I figured out that his wife had a daughter when she saw her in the city. So after that and him finding the letter addressed to "A" I was over it. I was so mad at the main character being an OCD freak for what reason? I'll never know. And for the fact that he kept blaming the "A" on his wife's previous boyfriend Alan. Is this how men really think? No wonder why trying to talk to a man is frustrating. I just felt so lost. There was no mystery- no "bulk", "fat", or sustanance to this story. It was just strange. I'd read it if it was revised to have more background, suspense and meat to the story.

I feel bad giving a 2 star to a first timer, but I'm glad the book was free... (sorry)

I won this book in a GoodReads First Reads giveaway from the author, Rich Silvers. Thank you!

I was hooked on this book by page 20. There were so many questions about what was going on right away that I literally couldn't put the book down. I ended up reading the whole thing in about a four hour car ride.

The book had great twists and turns, the writing with the main character's OCD was fantastic, and all around it was completely engrossing. I really felt for the main characters and what they were going through.

I recommend this book to anyone that likes mysteries or psychological thrillers! I will say, I had an inkling about the ending about halfway through the book, so if you're good at guessing the endings to books and don't like knowing beforehand, this might not be one for you.

Side note: The best part of this book is that part of the profits go to organizations that help find missing persons!

I won this book in the Goodreads giveaway. This was a great novel. Well done Rich Silvers. Mr Silvers did a exceptional job using metaphors to give the reader a visual characterization of what was going on. I could almost see the white furniture and smell the bleach.
I felt so much pain for Jack Logan. I couldn't imagine what he was going through. I loved the technique Mr. Silvers used to show Jack's mental state as he began to talk to himself, irrationally, and see Susan and have two sided conversations with her ghost.
It was definitely a page turner and then at the end ZOW. What? I am totally caught off guard. Well done. I absolutely recommend this novel as a quick page turning suspense. I will be looking for more of your works to read. Thanks for the opportunity to read and review it. Best of luck.

This was a decent novel, but not without flaws. The first two chapters dumped a lot of background information on the reader, using very choppy sentences, and it was a bit off-putting. After the first two chapters, however, the story hit its stride and became a quite a gripping tale of grief and obsession (though the sentence structure still lacked a certain eloquence).

Other reviewers disliked the ending so, I'm assuming, the author added the epilogue. I'm sorry to say that may have been a mistake. It did add to the story, but only once I figured out what it was trying to say. The addition was very disjointed and read as though the author rushed to add it in response to the negative reviews and didn't take the time to properly flesh it out or edit it. Overall, I feel, with a little tweaking, this could be a four-star novel, perhaps even a five-star novel.

I won this book in the Goodreads giveaway. I really liked this novel. I thought the author did a great job.
I felt so much pain for Jack Logan. I just couldn't imagine what he was going through. I loved how the Author used to show what Jack's mental state was ,when he he began to talk to himself in a irrational manor. It was a fast paced read and kept me intrigued all the way though ,a really great Thriller! I cant believe it's the Author's first novel. I am really looking forward to reading his next book, "Remember " when it comes out.

Again an author I have never read and decided to try him out... I read Have You Seen Her while on vacation.

Insanity? Loneliness, fear, depression and guilt? Or simply anal to the extreme? Richard leads us on a surrealistic ride in his debut psychological thriller (or is it a love story?) Have You Seen Her. Don't miss it. It'll keep you up at night waiting for his next release. Because "Sometimes ... the story doesn't end the way you want. Sometimes the characters just go in their own direction." A must read!

I couldn't put it down! mostly because I had a hunch that the addressed of Susan's letter wasn't who Jack thought it was. As I read the letter the first time through, I had a suspicion about who A was to her. I reread if again after Jack figured it was intended for Alan. I found it plausible, but not likely, so I had to keep reading. That's the first sign of a really good book. I'd give it 5 stars if Jack & I had both been completely wrong.

I won this book, although I would have bought it, so thank you Rich Silvers! I really enjoyed this thriller! It was fast paced, and kept me intrigued throughout the story. A percent of the profits go to organizations for missing children, so this is a win-win situation! Really nice work for a first novel, and I am looking forward to Mr. Silvers next book, Remember.

Gosh this book was weird! It is funny because I am going back and writing reviews for books I read over the past two months and that was my first thought when my mind was jogged by the book cover: weird. 3 stars at best. The story was good-good-good and then the ending was fast, short and completely out of left field.

I saw the reviews and looked forward to this book and was very disappointed by the end. The story of Jack, whose wife dies in a car crash that he feels responsible for. As he tries to put his life back together he sees a picture of a girl who looks like his wife and begins a search. The end is ridiculous!

I thought it was an interesting story line. I didn't care for the dialogue he maintained with himself and I thought the author could have lead the toward the ending, which came out of nowhere. I would have liked if the plot of the ending worked better throughout the story.

I struggled to get through this book. I did not like the main character very much. He does not like germs very OCD etc. Once I start a book though I hate to quit on it. The ending was very surprising I never expected that!

The main character's pain at losing his wife and the subsequent spiral into mental anguish is quite deftly portrayed in this book. The mystery is original and well plotted but it is the emotional ride that I found most unique.

This is what I call an "airplane" read. Not too heavy material but engaging enough to keep me occupied for several hours. The story was fairly predictable, but still enjoyable. The ending however was defiantly not what I anticipated and it was nice to be surprised for a change.

Thought I was reading a different book on the kindle but started this one. Not sure how that happened but good so far.
It was okay. Not great not horrible. Too unbelievable which is then "understood" in the end. Quick but nothing real special.
