What began as an idea soon set into motion a chain of events which would lead to the next APOCALYPSE...
I want you to imagine that the world as we know it has ended. Total Apocalypse. You only have yourself and one other person you can rely on. There is no power, no water, and you are armed with only a backpack of supplies. In your backpack there are matches, four bottles of water, enough food to make it three days, and one weapon. Spin a web of survival, danger, and conflict. Tell us why the world as you knew it ended, tell us your fears, make up a world in which nothing is the same and survival is hard, and the world is against you. Tell us what you would do, where you would go, how you would get food and water, how you would protect yourself, and how you would make your life over again. You could even throw in some romance and meet some new people to help you on your journey.
11 authors, 11 different stories, one main idea…welcome to the APOCALYPSE…
This anthology was done through a contest held on Cynthia Shepp Book Reviews & Editing's Facebook page. Set with the guidelines of writing about the Apocalypse with only a handful of supplies, the contest took a surprising turn and, thanks to the inginuity of Cynthia Shepp, turned into this anthology!
I will give a short review for each of the eleven short stories in this anthology and then review the anthology as a whole at the end.
Enjoy!
First Story: Fade To Black by Jase Brantson (Jayce Grayson)
The story to begin this anthology is aptly titled Fade To Black. Set in a unique style of telling a story completely through dialogue, this story is a new idea on the zombie apocalypse and how two characters, Rex and Jack, plan to survive. With a witty dialogue and a clear sense of what's going on, Fade To Black is definitely the perfect ice-breaker for this anthology.
Second Story: Artificial Life: The End of Humanity by Kate Charles
This next story is about the world ending through a bio-weapon's force and the creator of this weapon Kat. The world is progressively dying, and Kat is trying to bring back humanity through science. She's growing a little mad and loses emotion as time goes on, her goal becoming her obsession. Though it's a bit jumpy, it's a great display of how one's mind can simply go when faced with the apocalypse.
Third Story: Shelf Life by S. L. Dearing
Shelf Life follows Shannon and her dog Max, who don't know what happened to the world. Shannon ran into a bunker the second things started to get rough, and when she emerges three weeks later the world is so much different. This story was very well written with the emotions of Shannon very relatable, considering she is only just now realizing the end of the world happened and life will never be the same. When she meets Josh, maybe hope can be found from the ashes of Earth's destruction.
Fourth Story: Welcome To The End Of The World by R.M. Gilmore
This story begins explaining how the world ended, with the world coming off tilt and everything just going to ruin. A nameless woman and her husband find shelter in their basement as a lunatic with a scythe comes barreling into their home looking for more than just supplies. Showing the darker side of humanity when pushed to the brink, Welcome To The End Of The World is a delightfully dark tale of survival and the will to live even in a world that has ended.
Fifth Story: Lotion by Jason Brant
Lotion by Jason Brant is, so far, my favorite story. Mostly due to the fact it's so funny despite the fact the world has ended in the most gruesome of ways. It begins weeks after a virus has devastated the Earth, claiming millions of lives and leaving so few to stick around. The main character has been lucky to survive this long, but when he picks up his old neighbor things quickly spiral downwards in the most morbidly hilarious way possible.
Sixth Story: Until The End by Brittany Hiester
This next story felt a little flat, explaining that the end of the world ends because of a tsunami. Brittany and Christian are friends who worked together before the apocalypse, and huddled together to survive the worst of it. Once they come out they face off with an old co-worker who has become a "zombie." Though a little flat, it does have good light humor and good prospects for survival for the two main characters despite what they face.
Seventh Story: I Know My First Name is Clossiana by K.T. Hennessy
This story completely threw me off when I started reading it. At first I was thinking it was another End-Of-The-Earth story when it threw a complete curve-ball in my way and made me gasp! I don't want to spoil it for everyone else who has yet to read the story, but this story is one of the best for its well written dialogue, it's harrowing emotion, and a twist that caught me totally off guard.
Eighth Story: Save Me by Heather Kirchhoff
Save Me is the first story of this anthology that begins just as the end of the world is occurring, rather than skipping ahead to show the aftereffects. It starts as a fourteen-year-old girl named Raven tries to save her family from an invasion, only to fail and be forcefully pushed away by her brother who has just escaped the clutches of their invaders. Trying to survive, Raven makes friends with Nathaniel and together they try to piece together hope in a hopeless land.
Ninth Story: Canyon Bound by Jon Messenger
Set months after the supposed Rapture, Tommy and James are trekking the long distance from Los Angeles to Las Vegas in search of others. Having found a sign that maybe there are people at the Grand Canyon, Tommy is determined to reach Las Vegas to abate his unending lonliness. Showcasing what a person would do to belong and the obstacles they face, Canyon Bound is one hell of a story!
Tenth Story: What If by Jocelyn Sanchez
The idea for this story was very unique, suggesting that the world of the supernatural comes to extinguish humanity in order to obtain dominance over the world. Though I felt it was short and lacked an actual point other than to establish the idea, it was definitely a unique story with great potential.
Final Story: Cheyene Mountain by Nicki Scalise
Bringing an end to the anthology, Cheyene Mountain is about a nameless woman who searches for a refuge from the brutal invasion of an indiginous species similar to demons. Hope is slim in this story, and we find in the end that sometimes hope just isn't enough.
Overall:
With eleven amazing stories written by established authors and aspiring writers alike, Apocalypse is a unique anthology with a rock-solid premise and powerful views on the idea of the end of the world. Each story is as interesting as the last, each with their own world for you to explore. Cynthia Shepp has put together an intriguing story idea and brought together eleven amazing writers to create this incredible anthology. I hope to see another some time in the future, because what this anthology has shown me is that Cynthia Shepp can definitely orchestrate a great book!
Before I begin this review, I will explain how this anthology even came to be. It started out as a Facebook contest created by Cynthia Shepp for her page. She had a few requirements and left the rest to the readers and authors that enjoy her page every day. I read them as they were posted, some were too long to post on Facebook, but Cynthia loved them and wanted to share them with everyone. Apocalypse: An Anthology by Authors and Readers, was born.
Here were the rules:
The results were STUNNING! From seasoned author to writing novice, each tale was spun beautifully.
Fade to black, by Jase Brantson, had witty dialogue, humor, horror and a surprise ending I never saw coming. I loved how fast and fluid the story was, since it was mostly dialogue.
Artificial Life: The End Of Humanity, by Kate Charles, was amazing. The main character was the cause of the apocalypse, although she didn’t really have a conscience about it. The concept of causing the world to stop spinning for an instant, thereby causing it’s destruction, was a great idea.
I loved Shelf life, by S.L. Dearing, which also had a bit of a surprise ending. The characters were realistic, and I thought her choice of weaponry was quite brilliant! This was a love story at the end of the world… loved it!
Welcome to the End of the World (Population: Unknown), by R.M. Gilmore, is psychological horror at its finest! I was trapped inside that basement, losing my mind right alongside the main character. I rooted for her until the very end as her story unfolded.
Lotion, by Grayce Jantson (Jason Brant), was hilarious. The dialogue had me laughing out loud, The second character, Greg, is probably the worst person to survive an apocalypse with, but added a whole level of humor and frustration to the story. I didn’t expect it to end the way that it did, but it’s nice when things aren’t always “happily ever after”
Until the End, by Brittany Heister, was written by a young lady my son’s age. I was very impressed with her vision of the end of the world, and she had very amusing characters in her story. An egg roll selling zombie is quite unique and made it interesting. I really enjoyed this story!
I know my first name is Clossiana, by K.T. Hennessy, is brilliant. It was such a wonderfully different take on the apocalypse. I don’t want to really reveal why it’s different, because I don’t post spoilers. This story made me rethink how humankind would react to a failing world.
Save Me, by Heather Kirchoff, was written by a high school student. Her story was vividly described, emotionally heart-wrenching, yet a feeling of hope was still kept throughout. Hers is a story of family betrayal, surviving under extraordinary circumstances, and new love. It was a wonderful story!
Canyon Bound, by Jon Messenger, was one of my favorite stories in this anthology. He made everything so real that I felt I could see, smell, hear, the end of the world, his struggle to find others that were alive, his survival in the face of illness, and the inspiring “best friend” that helped him on his journey.
What If, by Jocelyn Sanchez, was short but action-packed. It also had an ending that I didn’t see coming! The paranormal cause of her apocalypse was different than the other stories and quite an interesting idea!
Cheyenne Mountain, by Nicki Scalise, was an amazing story. The ultimate betrayal a person can face. I really liked the idea of Anathema. This story had my rapt attention through to the end.
The editor, Cynthia Shepp came up with this idea and brought it to life. I watched this collection of stories go from an idea, a Facebook contest, to a wonderful anthology. This was a labor of love by Cynthia, and she deserves her own little blurb. She put her heart and soul into this project and without it, some of these fine young authors wouldn’t be in print right now. Incredible job, Cynthia! <3
I have to say that I was skeptical at first when I picked up this book, but I was pleasantly surprised. Some of these short stories were amazing and left me wanting the author to turn it into a true novel while others were good as they were; just a short peak into a post apocalyptic world built by some new and promising authors.
There were a few that stood out for me, I enjoyed all the stories, but I truly liked ‘Shelf Life’ by S.L. Dearing probably because it had a little romance to it.
'Lotion’ by Jason Brant was a snarky, fun and sarcastic read that had me laughing at times.
‘I know my first name is Clossiana’ by K.T. Hennessy, this one was a totally different take on the rules of this anthology, so it stood out for me.
And finally ‘Canyon Bound’ by Jon Messenger, I won’t say much about it, though it was probably the longest of the stories and the ending came as a surprise for me I hadn’t expected it at all.
So bravo to all involved in this anthology it was a fun and different read for me and was thoroughly enjoyable.
All in all this book is worth picking up and giving these short stories a shot. I would love to see Cynthia challenge her readers and author friends again because I would absolutely pick up another one of her anthologies—perhaps she’ll do a romance anthology because I can’t help but always want that little bit of love in everything I read!
There are eleven short stories, involving zombies, vampires, aliens and a whole bunch of other undesirables who are trying to destroy the world as we know it. We experience the personal conflict of those involved after their worlds have been devastated and as they try their best to cope with their situation using the tools available. The stories took me back to a genre of film I had loved so much as a child. ‘The Omega man’, ‘Search for the Body Snatchers’, ‘Night of the Living Dead’ and Harry Belafonte in ‘The World, the Flesh and the Devil’ (the first movie I had ever seen that used sound design). Each story has a different style because they are each written by different authors. But it is the story behind the book that is perhaps the most fascinating. It began as a competition on a blog site (Cynthia shepp) and on Facebook, evolved into a group publishing effort and finished with a cover design competition again on blog and Facebook. Do yourself a favor and see what the end of the world is like.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
The idea that several different authors could come together and write about the same subject was rather intriguing. While I love a good paranormal story, I was expecting the same’ol zombie apocalypse and was a bit skeptical about how these authors planned to be unique with their given subject limitations.
Of course, these talented authors did not disappoint! Not only were they all creative with their own individual stories, but they managed to keep me captivated through each twisted plot and varying characters.
Cynthia Shepp, editor and anthology coordinator extraordinaire, really did a bang-up job putting this project together. Starting off as a Facebook writing contest, she quickly realized what rare talent she had on her hands. Deciding these authors needed more exposure, she put the Apocalypse Anthology together, along with a cover contest, to complete the MUST READ anthology of the year!
I really enjoyed all the stories. I found them to be engaging and thought provoking. This is a great anthology and I am impressed with all the talent portrayed in this one book. It was cool to see what each writer would come up with when asked to write about the world coming to an end. It is an unimaginable thing to grasp your brain around and even more difficult task to write about it as if it were really happening. I can’t say there was one bad story in the mix. I especially enjoyed Shelf Life by S.L. Dearing and Save Me by Heather Kirchhoff.
Save Me Heather Kirchhoff "My throat cried in protest as I swallowed, fear beginning to cling to me. I had to go back. I had to save them. I had to do something. I couldn't just go into hiding without making sure they were safe first. So I did the only thing I could. I went back."
This started out as a project on Cynthia's book page and got turned into an anthology called Apocalypse. I enjoyed reading the other stories in this anthology. Some of them were funny while still sticking to the apocalypse theme. Some were serious giving you that full apocalypse feel. I thought a lot of the stories were going to contain zombies, but not all of them did. There were different ideas which I was impressed with like the world being taken over by vampires and aliens. One story even had a scientist who was the sole reason why the world was no longer the way it should be. This was a fun project and I'm happy it got turned into an anthology. Great job everyone hope you all will enter for the next project!
I don't normally read anthologies, but this was too good of an idea to pass up. I couldn't wait to see how each author took the same basic idea and ran with it.
As usual, most of the stories left me wanting for more (which is a good thing).
If I had to choose a favorite, I would say that it was Lotion by Jason Brant. The characters in his story held me captivated and had me laughing out loud.
Awesome job to everyone that came together to put this one together!
There's a real eclectic mix of short stories in this lovely anthology. I loved the selected theme; you can't beat a good apocalyptic story to get the heart pumping. As a whole the collections were well crafted, with lots of creative plot developments and interesting characterisations. There were two or three in particular that I prefered and really enjoyed. These were ones with touches of realism and touches of humour too. Overall very entertaining and engaging. I think the selection of shorts were well selected and compliment one another nicely.
AWESOME!!! Each Author nd reader have great imagination.. some of these stories were really creepy too...lol Each person put their own twist on what would literally happen if the Apocalypse literally happened. Some said it was Aliens, Vampires, Werewolves and Zombies.. To All that wrote in this book.. AWESOME effin job!!!
First of all this anthology was put together by a smart, savvy, reviewer/editor friend of mine. I already know what she has in her is absolutely brilliant. This started out as a contest on her book page that brought writers of all kinds together with one idea.....an apocalypse. Cynthia never ceases to amaze me with her editing skills and wonderful ideas. I am excited to see what journey she embark upon. She is a rock star through and through. Now on with my individual takes on each story~
Story 1~Fade to Black by Jase Brantson Jase wrote this story through dialogue, which to me was genius. Not only was that clever, but he threw me for a brilliant loop at the end of this story. No more details book lovers. Read it!!
Story 2~Artificial Life: The End Of Humanity by Kate Charles Kat was the reason for the apocalypse. The father of her child, Christian dies and she is left alone. What Kat does to recreate a new human race will blow your mind!
Story 3~Shelf Life by S.L. Dearing Shannon has been in her shelter for three weeks before she decides to wander out and see what has become of the world she once knew. Shannon and her dog Max find another survivor named Josh. Josh and Shannon encounter many obstacles. Good and bad, but they have one another. Will the survive the Apocalypse? S.L. Dearing brought a unique aspect to this story. In a bleak situation, there seems to be the hope of love. This was one of my favorite reads.
Story 4~Welcome To The End Of The World (Population: Unknown) by R.M. Gilmore The world has comet to an end. The main character of this story is forced to seek refuge in her basement. A man with a scythe enters her home and terrorizes her from above. He just doesn't want to rummage through her house for food and supplies. He is vile and wants much more. This psychological thrill ride will leave you dumbfounded.
Story 5~Lotion by Grayce Jantson (Jason Brant) First of all this was another one of my faves. A deadly virus has claimed the lives of millions of people. The main character is smart and on his own until after he runs into his neighbor Greg. This creates havoc and humor all at the same time. Greg is annoying to say the least. Jason Brant's imagination had me laughing from time to time. Even more than that, this story scared the s*** out of me.
Story 6~Until The End by Brittany Hiester Brittany added humor to this story immediately. Brittany and her friend Christian worked together before the apocalypse. There was a tsunami that ends the world. They run into a fellow co-worker that has become a zombie....or has she?
Story 7~I Know My First Name Is Clossiana by K.T. Hennessy Hmmm.....this one definitely threw me of course. It is short and very different from the rest of the stories. It is entertaining to say the least. It is one you have to read yourself and be the judge. I say this with the utmost respect. I liked it.
Story 8~Save Me by Heather Kirchoff This story was gut wrenching to me. This story was written by a high school student. She takes us on a ride of pure, raw emotion in her efforts to survive. I wanted to reach in and strangle her brother. Raven is only fourteen and pushed away from her brother. According to him, Raven is holding him up. She ventures out on her own to survive. Feeling utterly betrayed, she meets Nathaniel. Together they have each other and a new found love. Will all be lost?
Story 9~Canyon Bound by Jon Messenger Tommy and James are bound and determined to reach the Grand Canyon, where there are possible other survivors. This was riveting and will knock your socks off.
Story 10~What If by Jocelyn Sanchez Very short story. I would of liked it to be a bit longer, but I applaud what detail was brought to the story.
Story 11~Cheyenne Mountain by Nicki Scalise A woman and her dog are traveling to Cheyenne Mountain hoping to find a safe place to hide from the Anathema. Some say these could be demons, vampires or evil spirits that have taken over. She comes across a young man to whom of which she thinks is one of her. Oh boy is she sadly mistaken. One should never be so trusting!
I really love that this was a contest that ended up to be a book! I gave 4 stars only because I wasn't a fan of the first two stories. They were very well written, I just wasn't a fan of the story lines to them. Just not my cup of tea. But don't let that discourage you from reading this book! I really enjoyed the rest of the stories! They were phenomenal and the authors are great! I actually wanted more of them! This is a definite must read if you are into apocalypse books! Very well done and put together :)
Apocalypse: An Anthology Print Length: 192 pages Publisher: Indie Style Press; First edition (November 13, 2012) I was given this book as a gift for review purposes in exchange for a honest review.
Cover~ I love the interesting take on the Apocalypse type of Cover. It is quite intriguing and eye catching. Makes you want to pick up the book and read it!
My Reviews~
Fade to Black by Jase Brantson This was quite interesting short story and had a twist that I wasn't expecting. This was very very intriguing especially at the ending between Rex and Jack.
Artificial Life by Kate Charles This was an interesting story of a scientist who survived the end of the world yet partially blames herself for the destruction and builds a new "human race" somewhere else. This was fascinating. I though in parts that she was out of her gourd but in others that she seemed very logical. very well written short. wished there was more. This story was very creative and would highly like more.
Shelflife by SL DEARING This story is one of my favorites in the whole anthology. A woman goes into a shelter due to sirens going off and emerges with the world gone to pot. I love love the characters and the interaction between Josh and Shannon. I would love to see this in like a full novel. I would definitely buy it! Superb! Loved this authors writing!
Welcome to the End of the World by RM Gilmore This story was interesting and well written. I liked it even though it was way to short like stories are in an anthology. I wish it was longer. Great read.
Lotion by Jason Brant This ironic story is funny at times. I thought it was funny how it ended. This author has a great writing style full of humor that transfers to the story.
Until the End by Brittany Hiester This was a great short of survival. Very unique twist on the zombies now and the apocalypse.
Clossiana by KT Hennessy I loved this short. It was so intriguing and over way way to quickly. It was a twist on the apocalypse theme. I loved it and hope there will be more.
Save Me by Heather Kirchoff This is another story of hope through an alien invasion. Nate and Raven are a good combination. Can't wait for more by this author.
Canyon Bound by Jon Messenger This story is about loneliness and seeking others of the human race through exhaustion and the willing to overcome had obstacles with the help of imagination.
What if by Jocelyn Sanchez This was interesting the end makes you think and it was very good.
Cheyenne Mountain by Nicki Scalise I loved the writing in this sotry but the ending I didn't quite care for. But it was good nonetheless. Great writing style.

11 authors, 11 different stories, one main idea…welcome to the APOCALYPSE…
The general overview of this book is as the title suggests the apocalypse. Each story shows how the writer views how the world will end. Some range from the world ending in earthquakes and fire to being invaded by aliens.
Fade to Black: this is a twist on how a guy trusts another to be able to get to his sister in what he believes is a zombie attack. When he finally gets to his sister, he finds out that the guy he'd been trusting all along was actually one of the "zombies"
Artificial Life: This is where woman believes that she is the reason the world ended. There is a space station that they try to get to but her partner ends up dying. After harvesting her eggs, she believes that she can create an new race of humans. She also switches souls of her love and the man that she ends up being with because he is the only one left alive.
Shelf Life: How long can you live without food? Well that's the question. Shannon is searching for any other signs of life besides her and her dog. She meets up with Josh and they begin to try and travel out of town so that they don't get caught up by the search teams. Shannon learns that Josh was part of these teams and almost stops trusting him, but she puts what little trust she has in him and escapes with him.
Welcome to the End of the World: A woman is trapped in her basement by some crazy guy who is taunting her and living in her house. She also has hallucinations about her husband being there with her, but soon remembers that he isn't there. To fight for her life and the life of the child she is carrying, she ends up killing her would be murderer and going out to find her family in hopes that they are alive.
Lotion: Two guys stuck together. One only leaves his safe place to get supplies from his apartment and find the other. He is shocked to learn that he knows nothing about what has happened because he's been holed up in his apartment for a month. They are stuck together no matter how much they hate to admit it. Not only that, but they are exact opposites of each other.
Until the End: Sometimes people aren't always what you think they are. They act one way and then are actually the opposite. That's how it is in this story. There is a coworker who acts dumb but is actually quite sophisticated but she is also a zombie.
I Know My First Name is Clossiana: An alien planet is invaded with humans and there is only one left alive. The last thing she remembers is her love telling her that they know their secret.
Save Me: Abandoned by her last remaining family member, Raven goes on the run from the aliens that have invaded Earth and are taking hostages. She meets up with a boy and together they survive.
Canyon Bound: This is the story of the last survivors heading towards the last place they believe is safe. A canyon. They have to go through some tough problems in order to get there safely but their lives depend on it.
I was unsure if I would like this anthology at first. Only because this is not the usual genre I read. With that being said, I loved it and now my husband is reading it also.
Fade to Black: I wasn't expecting how this story ended, didn't see it coming and I loved it.
Artificial Life: How would you react and what would you do if you were the cause of the end of the world? I liked how this story was told. It's different from what I've read before.
Shelf Life: This book was more along what I normally read, but with an apocalyptic twist to it.
Welcome to the End of the World: I have read everything by RM and it still doesn't surprise me that I never know which way she will take a book. You never know what you are going to get with her stories and I love that about them.
Lotion: I was actually laughing and calling one of the characters a stupid idiot while reading this book. Really enjoyed it and makes me want to read the authors other books.
Until the End: This was a good read, I really enjoyed it.
I Know My First Name is Clossiana: This was different, not in a bad way though. Humans invade, and cause an apocalypse on another planet.
Save Me: Is about a 14yr old girl that thinks things are hopeless after she has lost her whole family. She learns that there is always hope though.
Canyon Bound: This is a story about, what the media is calling, The Rapture. No one knows for sure, but people just disappeared suddenly. Tommy and his friend, Jim, walk to the Grand Canyon to look for other survivors. REally liked this story
What If: The world has been taken over by zombies, werewolves, and vampires. Jocelyn and her friend are trying to survive and not be turned. Really fast read. Wish that there was more, but still liked it.
Cheyenne Mountain: The anthology ended on a great story. I loved this story and was surprised at the end of it.
Apocalypse: An Anthology by Authors and Readers was gifted to me in exchange for an honest review. I am a huge fan of apocalyptic novels and I enjoy an anthology now and again, so I was eager to read this collection of macabre stories. Vampires, werewolves, zombies, aliens, well pretty much every horror your heart desires can be found in this anthology. One thing I appreciate about short stories is that the reader starts off with limited knowledge and has to construct the clues to glean exactly what the heck is going on and by the time you think you've got it all figured out, the ending knocks you on your head, I found these stories to be clever with just enough of the creep factor to make each apocalypse equally horrifyingly unique. This anthology will not disappoint PA and horror lovers alike, but be warned...it's not for the faint of heart. It's truly gruesome!
This was a group of some great little short apocalyptic stories! Quite creative, and a few were pretty surprising! Each story had their own setting, their own background, their own reason for the world ending, and the items in their bags were for the most part, quite different. A few of them I enjoyed more than others, but they were all good, and it made for an easy evening read. They were well organized, well edited, and each was just the right length to fit in what needed- although I could have easily read them as full length novels. Very entertaining! Review by Kendra @ www.FaeBooks.co.uk
this book is not for the faint of heart - some of these stories are downright scary - others just frightening - all worth the read - Cynthia Shepp did an amazinf job in creating a collection of stories that not only keeps the reader's interest but make you think about possibilities
For a book filled with short stories based on a Facebook challenge, I was very impressed. Each author made sure to entrap their audience into their stories almost as if you were fighting for survival with them. I'm so happy that my sister lent the book to me, it was a very good book.
"I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads."
This is a collection of eleven stories written by both authors and readers. The readers are aspiring authors and many of their stories in this book were comparable to those by seasoned authors. As a lover of dystopian/apocalyptic stories, I felt myself drawn to more of the stories than others, but they each were unique in their own way. I feel that the collection has something for everyone. Unfortunately though, some were very good and some were not so good and seemed like they didn't need to be included.
Each story sheds a different light to the possibilities of an apocalyptic time on Earth. (Or not on Earth as some of the stories tell.) Some in this book were excellent and unique and I absolutely loved them. While others were lacking something.
Topics found in the stories included vampires, zombies, cloning, cannibals, all around bad guys, and aliens. One story even had humans as aliens invading another planet and causing it's apocalypse. The voices were unique in each of the stories and they were a great collection to read for for the most part.
Unless I miscounted there are 11 end of the world short stories in this anthology. Here is how I graded them individually:
Fade to Black - 4 Artificial Life - 3 1/2 Shelf Life - 2 Welcome - 4 Lotion - 1 star..misspelled Mcgyver! Until - 2 Clossiana - 3 Save Me - 3 Canyon - 3; Way too much like a revamped Left Behind What If - 0; Too short and no point Cheyenne - 2
Overall, it was entertaining and a quick read, some of the stuff by the "readers" was promising but came off like basic fillers (anything less than 3) and shouldn't have been in the book, that falls on the editor Cynthia Shepp, but some of the stuff by the "readers" was very impressive (scored 3's). I can't say I'd look for any of the authors in the future besides Jase Brantson and R.M. Gilmore
I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
This book was very interesting, and I enjoyed it. I am not normally a reader of the Apocalypse but I thought a book that had a bunch of short stories from authors and readers would be fun; and it was! I like how different each writer is. They all have a different idea of how the world will end, and how the people left will survive. I recommend this book to anyone who loves short stories that are given the same criteria but are very different.
What else can I say. Someone actually took the time and effort to amass this collection poorly framed, half written dreck. I would feel sorry for them if I didn't have this rotten taste in my mouth.
These short stories are brilliantly written. All of them are about all forms the Apocalypse could come in! Most are creepy and make you hope you could do what some of the characters did to survive!
The other stories in this are amazing! I read it in a day-I couldn't put it down. I can't say a favorite because I loved them all equally so good job to the other authors.
