Skye Walters thought waking up on the side of a river with no memory was her biggest problem. She had no idea that the man who had saved her from drowning, the man she now depended on, Aiden, was more than mere mortal. A warrior of ancient.
No memory, nowhere to go, Skye stays in the mountain town, only to discover she herself, has unexplained powers. Her life, her destiny, are soon out of her control, as are her feelings for Aiden. The deeper Skye gets sucked into Aiden’s hidden world, the more the past, and who she really is, threatens her future, her love, her sanity.
Note: I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I really was intrigued first of all by the cover. Even though it is simple, the color really makes it pop and stand out to an eye that is scrolling through on the screen. The concept of a different take on gods and goddesses was excellent, unique, and inventive.
Skye was a great strong-willed character. I liked how she had her own ideas that she was not afraid to express, especially to Aiden, who most people were afraid of. I also liked that she always seemed positive even when she was thrown into the impossible situation of good versus evil and the fight between them and also not being able to remember who she was. Aiden seemed distant to me and not a completely developed character. I think the author was going for a little aloof and mysterious, a hero with a troubled past but I just got blah from him. Nothing about him really excited me, he was kind of just there. I had a some issues with the sex scenes. I could definitely read the chemistry there but it seemed forced. The whole relationship between Skye and Aiden was just not working for me.
This is a very difficult review for me to write. On the one hand, the world Jackson created was engaging and an interesting twist on the origin of mythological stories. On the other, the romance was meh and the fight between good and evil was meh. I mean, I get it, the author was trying to say that even forces of good can be evil - she beat it over our heads a LOT. In fact, that was the problem. You knew right from the beginning that the "good" forces were just as evil as the "bad" forces. And can we please stop including "mal" in the naming of every evil character/entity/organization??
It could also just be that I'm tired of the trope "us vs. the world" because that's what this was. The four friends versus everyone else, good and evil. It's been overdone and this was not done in an interesting enough way to forgive that.
As for the romance - I just didn't understand it. It was like, the two main characters barely tolerated each other, and then it was explained this because they just "knew" they were soulmates deep down or something and suddenly a switch is flipped and it's all or nothing between them. They were both willing to die and kill for the other, and they barely knew each other.
The narration was spotty. Sometimes it was third person limited, sometimes it was third person omniscient, and there didn't seem to be rhyme or reason to the changes. Quite a number of jarring typos or misplaced commas.
I think if you're into darker paranormal romances this would be a great story for you. The created world is rather interesting, and setting it up slowly to accommodate a heroine who lost all her memories was a great way to bring readers up to speed.

In enjoy this author’s historical romances. I wanted to love this book, but I had some problems with it. The characters made some juvenile decisions and their constant withholding of information was detrimental to each other and themselves. I didn’t see the point. Skye finds out she’s a hybrid between an “evil” and a “good” race of gods. The problem was the “good” gods did evil things, too. So, everyone was just misunderstanding each other!
I felt the romance between Skye and Aiden felt too contrived and forced. I didn’t feel any real chemistry between them.
Overall, it was entertaining and the world building was good. I will likely not finish this series though, as I found myself skimming a little.

OMG!!! This is so cool. I can’t believe how intense the mythology behind this story was. I was completely taken by the twist on the Greek Pantheon and the brilliant explanation behind it. Jackson creates a whole new world based on a very, very old concept and immerses readers in it in a manner that cannot be beat.
The characters in this story are just amazing. They are all such complete people. Some of them may be a little off of their rockers, but that is just their personalities, not a lack of creativity on the author’s part. Each and every character is unique. They all have a back-story, complete and very interesting. These back-stories also mesh very well with their current characteristics and personalities.
The mountain forest in which this story takes place is very well developed. It is very difficult to write well about such serene and scenic locales, but Jackson manages it with a flourish. Her descriptions and writing style lend themselves to this. It also lends itself to the great deal of action and intensity in the story. Jackson does not give the audience a moments rest, keeping up the fast pace throughout.
I cried, I laughed, I loved. I thoroughly enjoyed every second of this novel. I cannot wait until I can read the sequel.
This book was a pleasant surprise. I honestly did not expect to like it as much as I did. Being so busy with my colleges and classes this past month I had not had enough time to properly read a book (depressing...i know!) and Flame Moon was a great book for me to get back into the reading wagon.
The story starts with Skye waking up on a riverbank having not a single memory of her past. Skye was a tricky, volatile character but I really liked the way she was growing throughout the book and recovering her memory bits by bits. I like how she interacted with other characters, especially Triaten and Rafe. I really liked the chemistry between Aiden and Skye too.
Apart from a few minor (and kind of funny!) typos the writing flowed smoothly. I loved the premise of the story and I hope to read more about the Panthenites/Malefics struggle in the sequel! And also more about Skye's special ability.
I found this book when I was doing my free Kindle eBook posts and was immediately intrigued. A mysterious young woman with strange powers, an ancient warrior, sounded like a win to me and I wasn’t wrong. I ended up really enjoying this tale.
What I wasn’t expecting was this was a new take on Gods and Godesses, however in this book they are actually called Panthenites it’s actually the humans that gave them the title of gods. They are not actually gods but a long lived species with special powers. There are two factions of these “gods” the Panthenites (good’ish”) and the Malefic’s (Evil); of course they are at odds with each other and almost always on the brink of war.
Skye is a strong female character. She wakes up with no memory of who she is, but instead of freaking out she seems to take it mostly in stride. Of course she feels lost and wants to know who she is but with the support of Mary, Triation and Charlotte she doesn’t completely freak. When she displays huge amounts of power at first she has a hard time taking it all in, but with the support and explanation of Aiden she soon starts to come around and start believing. She takes all the training that Aiden forces upon her and doesn’t complain … much … when he’s putting her on her a$$ time and time again. Even though Aiden is pushing her hard she seems to understand that it’s for her protection. The passion between Skye and Aiden is a slow burn at first but once it catches it ignites into an unstoppable force. But forces are working against Aiden and Skye, namely the elders and the Malefic’s. Skye may not know who she is, but it appears that others do and the danger surrounding Skye escalates to the point that even Aiden may not be able to protect her.
Aiden is a complicated man, for centuries he has been the councils personal weapon. He has warred and killed all for the “greater good”, but years ago he realized that he can’t always live with acting towards the greater good, it was killing his soul as much as it was killing his targets. His anguish towards those deeds is heartening, you know that he’s made a difference but at what cost to himself? These days he keeps a low profile, until Skye. For weeks he fought his overwhelming attraction to Skye, but something always held him back until he all but imploded with feeling towards her. His bliss with Skye is short lived however, with forces beyond his control gunning for the one person he would give anything protect he realizes that he may not be enough to keep her safe.
This title is action packed and faced paced. You are swept up into the story, there are twists, betrayals and enough fight scenes to keep everything moving along swiftly. It doesn’t take long to get wrapped up in the characters as well. Not only are Skye and Aiden engaging but you find that you come to care for Triation and Charlotte just as much. I quite enjoyed this story and will be looking forward to the next book, because I will want to see what the flame moon brings! Rating: 4
This story gives a whole new twist on the Gods and Goddesses of myth as well as a little romance and adventure. It is the first book in what is to be a series and I look forward to seeing the story unfold in the upcoming books.
Well this book took me a long time to finish. Life kept getting in the way. Made the experience less than the book deserved. I actually was able to enjoy the characters they were all great good guys and bad guys. There were times where the characters switched teams too, which was very interesting. The only part I had trouble with was that the time shifts were somewhat confusing. However, Time is always confusing when it is changing, so I expect to be confused.
Sometimes mythology can be boring and very predictable. When reading the summary of what the book was about I thought, "Sounds like mythology & that's not a genre I like." However, this book wasn't what I was expecting. It wasn't a book that would be considered about mythology. It was a book that spoke on it, but it was able to look at what humans think mythology is and what it came to be. Meaning, there are terms used by humans to describe Zeus, Apollo, Athena, Opolla, Hercules, etc. There were even some discrepancies that got confused with superheros that were mentioned in this great tale. However it touched on this and spoke more of present day gods and goddesses. However, this is a depiction of someone's life who has no idea about whether any of it was true or not or what lines of separation there are for those with supernatural powers that exist in ever increasing amounts in some "beings" lives.
This is a story of having a life, then it being lost. Not having memories or understanding of how you even got to the point you are at in this moment. It didn't matter whether Skye believed in gods or goddesses. She was about to have her life forever changed. She was very "lucky" or so it seemed that she was rescued by Aiden, the stranger who seemed to be cautious of her. She is a stranger in a foreign land... she knows nothing about her surroundings & is very fortunate to be alive & have had Aiden save her.
So, what is all the secrecy about when Skye is being nursed back to health? Why all the scrutiny? Why does the subject change when she enters the room? Is it just coincidence? The characters in this book are definitely that of superhero & god & goddess type. However, they don't see the history of their lineage the way humans do. They don't fight what they know but they will fight for what they know is right... to save others for the good of all mankind. But it hadn't always been that way.
This story makes you wonder whether the history of God & Goddesses is true or a wonderful tale made up by Kris K./K.J. Jackson. The book is that good. It is like reading a mythology book that has loads of suspense & romance & the GI Jane theme as well! It can't really be described as I have never read any of it's kind. It's simple yet intriguing. It lets you go into the worlds of gods & goddesses knowingly. But you may think you know who is one, & who isn't. You will be surprised. The ones who are known to be of the Panthenite lineage may possibly not be. They may be human or even something else... something more evil.
However, the balance of good & evil is one that usually always ends with good prevailing. Here it is more realistic. Although this is a book, you can never tell when fantasy crosses over into reality. It is a very well researched and written book. You feel like you live in the world that this author creates. It is very real for the short time you read this book. Once I opened Flame Moon, I never closed it... until it was done.
I was given this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
I liked this book very much. I was a little uncertain when I began the book and I was a little confused as to what was going on, but (I think) it was designed that way for the reader. Thus there was a lot of suspense. Even the "Prologue" drew me in right away because of the intrigue and wondering what it is that Aiden had done, what his "sins" of the past were.
"Chapter 1" baffled me as well. With a first sentence that says, "The shard through her skull was her welcome to consciousness" (2) I was hooked all the way. One of the main characters named Skye has a traumatic event prior to "Chapter 1," and she must now deal with who she is with the help of others: Aiden, Triaten, and Charlotte, each of whom has a special power. Another character, probably the one that shocked me the most, is Mary. (It's so hard to write without giving things away!)
I loved all of the characters and especially found myself empathizing with both Aiden and Skye. Through the course of Skye's journey to know who she truly is, I found her to be a strong and even heroic female, which is always a treat. At times I thought that Aiden was a real jerk, but then I ended up seeing him for who he really is and I fell in love with him.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys suspense, paranormal, and who doesn't mind being wrong regarding the outcome of all the various relationships and the resolution to the main conflicts of the story.
Thank you, K.J., for a fantastic read! I definitely want to read more of your work!
Wow what a book Flame Moon was great. I just loved it. This book sucked me in from the first page and there was no turning back. I completely devoured this book. First off love Greek mythology, I loved how the mixed It into the story. The pace and story line was great. There was a lot of ups and down. Some parts would get really intense and you could feel the emotions coming off the pages.
I really loved the main Skye. She went through a lot of emotional stuff. Skye was the most realist and relatable character. She is very strong willed. I love how she stood up for herself and I also loved how she would go toe to toe with Aiden.
Aiden was my least favorite character. There wasn’t much to him. You don’t learn that much about him and he really didn’t have a back story. You learn that he has a dark pass but other than that nothing. Also I didn’t like him and Skye as a couple. Their relationship felt force to me. I really wanted Skye to end up with Triaten.
Overall this was good and I had a fun time reading it. The only down side was the end it started to feel really dragged out. But other than that it was a good read and I am looking forward to reading the next book.
4.5 This was really freaking good. Mythology mixed with action and a beautiful romance. This book gave me a full range of emotions. What do you do when all your emotions have been tortured out of you? That moment truly had me worried. I loved warrior Aiden he was so fiercely protective but had no problem kicking Skye's butt into shape. And Skye would lost all her memories never had a pity party. She just fought for what she needed and wanted. She was truly a strong woman. Lastly I loved their friends Charlotte and Triaten. They were always there with their unwavering faith in Aiden and Skye. Cant wait for the next book.
I liked this book very much and would love to read more of Aiden and Skye's story.
The story was very well written and I found myself wanting to know more .... The characters were craetive and easy to picture in your imagination. Triaten was my favorite though, I so want to learn more about him and his connection to the Elders esp. Horace.
The story moved smoothly and I found I had a hard time putting it down..... I often found myself extremely mad at some of the things the characters did, lol.
Congradulations on this book and I will look for more of this story..... Thank you
A new twist and I hope a second book! I loved the two main characters and their ups and downs. I usually get tired of a romance because I feel that they become predictable(man falls for women, women falls for man, something happens and they fight then they get over it some how and get back together). This book was a new twist on that and I did not want it to end! I loved this love story, it is a must read!
Skye, wakes up disoriented and not knowing who she is. With this the adventure begins. It felt fast paced which I loved, it sucked me in had some sexy scenes without making the whole book about that. Yeah! I love it when their is spice but a story that makes it more than that.
Aiden, Charlotte and Triaten, are the best I would love them as friends.
I came across this book on a freebe from the amazon. I just read a lil about it and was interested in reading it. Turns out that this was pretty good. I was shocked myself to enjoy this book and how different it was.
The story got bogged down about halfway thru but overall I enjoyed it! Good vs evil but turns out to be just shades of gray. Descendants of gods have some of their powers. Halfbreeds are considered evil. Skye has amnesia but comes into her powers! Is she a Pantheonian or a Malevic?
Aiden saves Skye when she almost drowns in the river. After the incident she has no clue who she is. Her memories are gone. She stays with Mary at the ranch and meets Charlotte and Triaten. The storyline centers around Aiden telling Skye what she is and then training her to protect herself. The two factions fighting against each other are going to want her taken care of one way or the other. She is a mystery for most of the book because she has no clue about herself. She and Aiden have great chemistry and I like the pairing. Things go well until a box shows up, then everything falls apart. Skye seems to get her memories back, Mary does shocking things, and Aiden is taken. I didn’t see some of those happening. The author presents these impossible situations that Skye has to confront and tough decisions concerning. She is a strong character and I liked her throughout the whole book, even when she seems to lose herself. She fights her way back. The other characters could have stopped a lot of things if they were honest from the start. That was frustrating. Aiden’s behavior was disappointing at times, but he finally comes through in the end. I was shocked at how the politics of both groups was carried out. Who would truly follow these people? Their judgmental views were truly outdated and disgraceful. I’m assuming they will continue to cause issues for the four main characters for a while to come. I was a unique storyline with a great main character. I give it a 4 out of 5.
I really did like the beginning of this series, not loved, but heavily liked. As beginning go when it comes to series the author has to build a lot on the characters for the readers to get them to see, feel, understand their characters. While the story of Sky, to me, was spotty throughout, by the end you had most of her story complete and I really felt, and still do, that I want to continue reading the series to see where her and Aiden go.
As for the historical content parts in which this story really does not pull on but just hints on I hope to see answers to the actual past and what led the two warring societies to be where they are in this book.
As for the romance parts, not really in-depth nor erotic, but quick snippets of the verbs and adjectives that deal in that area.
What I recommend this book? Yes. Do I want to continue reading the series? Yes. Am I hoping that the blank areas get filled in? Of course.
I know the rating seems low but because o can never do half stars, I round down and have it as a 2.5 stats, which is my average. It was a decent book. I really liked the world building Jackson did and how fresh it was. The characters were okay although they were sometimes very predictable and very one dimensional. The story itself Ifelt jumped around too much sometimes and Ifelt like I'd missed parts because of the style of writing. It was also a typical love story at the bones of it which I sometimes don't mind. I'm intrigued to read the last two books purely because I want to see how her powers play out and I want to see what happens with Charlotte and Triaten because I'm vibing them.
Panthenites are supposed to be good, and the Malefic's are supposed to be evil. Yet it becomes clear there's both on each side. Aiden and Skye are products of these sides and manipulated by them too. Despite the twist of these God like persons, Ms. Jackson has created a believable, intense, and loving story. The overall quality of writing hasn't changed from the Historical Romance I'm used to reading from this author. I'm anxious to read the others in this series. No cheating or cliffhanger and you get some steamy intimacy scenes and a happy ever after. Enjoy 🤓
Skye Walters is attacked on a train and ends up killing the person with a knife. Aiden is the man who saves her from drowning on the river. During this time she finds out that Aiden comes from a hidden world of magic both good and evil and she is learning bit by bit who and what she is and why people are trying to kill her. Initially I found this a bit violent for my tastes but I have to admit that as the story progressed I found myself immersed in a world that I did not fully understand and as I began to sort it out I wanted to cheer on the good guys but not until the end did I completely know who the good guys were! An interesting tale!
This book was amazing. Their was a twist on every page. It had suspense, romance, power. As you read you feel as if you know the characters and you cant stop reading. The point of a book is to get you attention and hold it until the very end, and make you want to read the second book. This book has done both of those things. I absolutely can not wait to read the next book.
Not related to the story until the end of the story. I initially thought this had something to do with werewolves. It was instead something a little different. I enjoyed the story. The characters were complex with enough issues to keep you reading. I'm looking forward to the next part of the series. I may try some of the historical writing by this author also.
This story caught me by surprise. I read the preview and decided I would read it. It was a page turner that you can’t put down. The intensity is insane and the plot is really original. The characters are so well detailed and incredible. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
Enjoyed this book. Very different world build. Myths and legends hinted at, but the characters drive this book. Aidin and Skye are of a different race, but the story is mostly love and tragedy- human themes. Quite a bit of violence but thankfully, only 3 books in the series. Lovely to be able to finish a series!
