Utterly destroyed, or lost forever?

This is the question that plagues Riley Poe. After her vampire lover, Eli Dupre, was seemingly murdered by a fallen angel, she receives word that he's actually trapped in an alternate dimension, where hell on earth is revealed and dark forces reign. Riley’s been there before, and it nearly ripped her to pieces.

But her efforts to find Eli are thwarted by a new foe: a powerful, unstoppable vampire is slaughtering humans. Riley knows how to handle a vamp, and with the WUP team by her side, she's determined to take down the rogue.

But what she finds rocks her to the core, as she discovers a startling connection between the slaughter and Eli, who might not be missing after all—and who might not be the same vampire she fell in love with.

My Thoughts:

✜ Wow...this book was totally engrossing and I just love that! I was so into reading that literally hours would pass in no time at all.

✜ The blurb definitely has spoilers but if you read the last book, you know what's going on with Eli...sorta.

description

✜ Things are rough for Riley and it's hard to read but I love all that emotional drama!

✜ I was really happy that the book got back on track after a somewhat left turn with book three, Eventide.

✜ There were a few minor glitches which I can in no way deduct any stars for...sorry, just can't do it. But, basically, the "Marilyn" syndrome is still going strong.

✜ It was great having almost all the old characters in this story and some interesting new ones. ~Rhine~ I could definitely see a spin off with the Ness Boys. ;)

✜ The ending was a-mazing! The epilogue even better! I love how things tied up and was not disappointed with a thing.

description

✜ Well, maybe I am a little disappointed that it's over. I love, LOVE Riley and Eli and I would love to see how things are now in Savannah.

✜ Even with the not so great books, it was definitely worth continuing the series especially to get to this wonderful conclusion!

Favorite quotes:

ღ “I’m going to tell Eli you kissed me like that,” I manage to mutter. “He’s gonna kick your ass.”

Noah’s soft chuckle is the last thing I hear. “He’ll understand completely.”

ღ “God, woman,” he says, almost whispering, “I didn’t think I could last another day without you.”

I won this book from a Facebook competition, and I'm so glad I took the chance to enter. I love this series by Elle and this last book had me tied up in knots. I laughed, I cried, I was an emotional wreck from page one to the very end.
Riley is a one of a kind character, and her world is epic. The characters around her are complex and interesting. The story arc for Darklove and the series had me hooked until the very end. Once I started, I couldn't put the book down until I had finished.
Without spoiling the book since it hasn't been officially released yet, I will say this - Darklove closed off the series PERFECTLY.
I can't wait to see what Elle does next. :) A fan for life.

With the promise of a darker, gritty story with an almost hopeless desperation to save her lover, I thought this story was set up to be a real page turner so I picked it up with great anticipation. And I was not disappointed. This one cruised along quickly and near the end it was a real page-turner.

This was the fifth and final book in the series. I was not aware of that when I chose the book. In fact when I first snagged it, I didn't pay attention to the fact that it was part of a series. And so it sat as I promised myself I would get the other books and read them. Didn't happen. So I did something supremely gutsy and decided that I'd just wade in and see what happened. So, yeah, I got lucky. I could definitely tell that I was coming in after a huge amount of history from the characters and story arc had taken place. And that things had been left in a really bad place with the last page of the previous book. But, that being said, there was enough world building and summarizing that I got up to speed and was able to enjoy the book. Definitely wouldn't recommend this to others, but it worked for me.

The story opens with Riley Poe, human with special abilities and member of an organization that helped police supernaturals, and her partner, Noah Miles, a vampire, arriving in Stirling, Scotland by orders of their boss to take care of a rogue vampire problem. Riley wants nothing more than to stay in Edinburgh where her fiancé and soulmate, Eli Dupree, and his partner were killed. Riley is devastated and keeps her emotions locked away, but she is also convinced that Eli and Vic are not dead, but stuck in the in between. A mutual friend told her how to find them and so that is what she does. Only, Riley's actions have far reaching consequences. She frees the two vampires, but Eli doesn't come back the same.

Riley and Noah are kept busy and on the alert because the rogue vamps are a bigger problem than was anticipated. In fact, a strong evil force is creating them and has Riley in her sights. And Eli is sighted with her filled with bloodlust and in her thrall. Riley has gone through so much that she will do what it takes to get the old Eli back though others are worried that Eli might be too far gone and may need to be put down.

With the help of friends and new allies, Riley takes on a powerful group with their own agenda that involves Riley herself. Innocents need to be protected and Riley will be pushed to her very limits and then some for a chance to restore Eli.

Alright, this was an exciting story. It was the finale book in a series. Things are pretty desperate for the heroine. Her soulmate was thought to be dead and now he's alive, but almost as unreachable as he was when she thought he was dead. Riley tends to go her own way and has to be reined in by her friends and partners. She cares about others, but because of her powerful gifts, tends to feel she can do it all. She was more lucky than skilled in many of the situations. Not sure I would have liked that for a whole series, but it was tolerable for the one book.

There was a bit of mystery behind the who and why of the situation in Stirling. I was a little confused, but I think it would have made more sense if I'd read the previous books especially when it came to the motivations and agenda of one of the villains.

The world building was a strong piece. I enjoyed the paranormal world the author created that had a complex vampire lore and still included other races like werewolves, witches, angels, and demons along with gifted humans.

The secondary characters surrounding Riley like Noah, Rhine and the rest were fun. I loved the scenes when they were all working together to patrol and protect. Can't say I was impressed with the thing where almost every male other than her brother was in love or crushing on Riley. Just a bit much. She doesn't waver from her own deep love for Eli and even though they are separated and even enemies to a certain extent, it is obvious through dreams, flashbacks, and tantalizing encounters that they have chemistry.

So in conclusion, I was definitely into the story and found it was a solid and exciting last book. Definitely would have been better in order, but I still had a good time reading it. I would recommend it to Urban Fantasy fans who enjoy tough and gifted heroines and a strong cast of diverse characters and missions.

My thanks to Penguin Group for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

I read this in two hours and I was so disappointed. Everything has turned into a shortcut. I feel gypped. When Riley goes to the alterna-Hell, I had to re-read it. It took like 5 minutes. What the hell? The whole book is abbreviated with a new set of supporting characters, sort of. It's a race to get to Eli, but there is nothing that endears me to Riley anymore. From Book 3 or so, she does what she wants without thinking about other people - I hate that character trait. It's entirely selfish when the rest of the team is looking out for you.

Kudos to Noah for sticking around. I'd stab myself already if I had to keep trying to watch out for Riley. What for? She's just going to run into trouble anyway.

This last book felt like a big clusterfuck. I'm bummed because I liked the first few books and how they were turning out.

There are no words... Other than this. If this WAS the ending? It was perfect. The perfect ending, and well deserved after a long fight. For friends, for family, for life, and for love.
This will be a series I will read MANY times over.

Utterly destroyed, or lost forever?

This is the question that plagues Riley Poe. Favorite Quote(s)/Excerpt(s): ” Why does everyone love you so much, Riley?” Rhine asks in the shadows. “Have you bewitched every ale around you?”

“Nah,” I answer, and I’m searching for the way out. “It’s the ink.”

Thoughts: First off, it took me forever to get around to reading this book. It has been sitting in my TBR pile for awhile. It has nothing to do with the author or the book itself. Frankly, when I snatched it up because the blurb sounded so good, I didn’t realize it was part of a series…and definitely not book five down the line in it! I could tell to from trying to start it that it is not one of those ‘stand alone’ in a series books that you can just grab and start. Needless to say, it took me around to starting the series.

Now, with that being said, I really enjoyed the series itself. It is interesting, refreshing, and just a different type of urban fantasy. After reading Darklove and getting my own thoughts on it, I looked at what other people had to say – many of which praised this one as best in the series. Personally, I actually enjoyed the first book much more than this. Darklove is special in it’s own way, because so much happens up until this book…and you are so invested in the characters by then that you just have to see what happens! I can’t say that it pulled enough emotion to bring a tear to my eye, but it is an emotional book, no doubt. We see our characters hit some lows that we never saw coming. We also get a bunch of new characters that I wouldn’t mind seeing more of. And I just know I’m not the only one hoping Noah gets his own book! 😉

The first book (as I mentioned above) is my favorite – probably because it has the promise of a great new urban fantasy to it – plus, we get to slowly get to know Riley before the sh*& hits the fan. Book four (Black Fallen) was my least favorite, but not enough to keep me from continuing on. All in all, a great series to start if your looking for a new series to begin!

Gritty and dark, Riley frees Eligius from the alter realm, then he poofs, re-emerging with an evil she vamp who seems to enjoy toying with Riley. We get to meet new hunters and a lot of Inverness. While I liked how it ended it just seemed too long to get there.

Quick & Dirty: Riley is lost without Eli. Then she discovers that he may not be dead. Nothing will stop her from finding the man she loves…

Opening Sentence: It’s cold here.

The Review:

Let me start off by saying I have not read the previous books in this series. The first book has been on my to-read list for a long time, but I just haven’t gotten around to reading it. That being said, I had no problems following what was going on in this fifth and final installment of the Dark Ink Chronicles. While I would probably say my true rating would be closer to 3.5 stars, I have to round it up to 4 based purely on the fact that I had such a hard time putting this book down once I started it.

Riley Poe is still reeling from the events of the previous book, struggling with the loss of her fiancé Eli and her friend Victorian. Hope stirs in her heart when she finds out they may not be truly dead, but trapped in a purgatory-like dimension. Riley takes off on her own, determined to rescue them. She believes she’s successful, until she finds out that, while Victorian is back, Eli is nowhere to be found. As she and her friends try to figure out what’s going on, they also have to deal with a string of vampire killings in Inverness. Will they be able to stop the killings? Will Riley ever find the man she loves?

I have to say, I’m not a huge fan of Riley. Maybe my opinion would be different if I’d read the previous books, but based on this book, she seems to be the type of person who does what she wants, no matter the consequences. Numerous times, her friends advise her against a certain course of action. She agrees to their faces, but as soon as their backs are turned, she goes ahead and does what she wants. When things inevitably go awry, she really doesn’t appear to regret what she did. This became incredibly frustrating to me. Something else that annoyed me is the fact that every male in Riley’s life is in love with her. This is a particular pet peeve of mine in books. It just doesn’t seem believable to me that every male character would fall in love with the heroine.

On the plus side, I loved the side characters, my favorite being Noah. I would love to see a story from his perspective. The glimpse we get of his past in this book made me very intrigued to know more about him. His personality alone would make him a great hero in a novel.

All in all, while Riley as a character annoyed me, I can find no complaints about the actual plot of the book. It was fast-paced and kept me on my toes the entire time. I was constantly eager to discover what would happen next. In the end, that’s really all that matters. As a newcomer to the series, it intrigued me enough to want to go back and read the series from the beginning. I believe fans of the series will not be disappointed by this final installment.

Notable Scene:

All at once, the last tree falls. The mist hovers and swirls over the downed forest, obscuring the browns and greens with a white blanket. In the next second, it begins to recede, and in its wake, darkness. It’s almost as if my vision is blurred, and I can’t make out figures, forms, or shapes. I even scrub my eyes with my free fist. Then I blink, and my vision sharpens. I’m standing at the end of a street. Dark, shadowy, desolate. No cars. No trash cans. No storefronts. Just a street. At the far end, a derelict church. Ruined stone buildings flank me, along with cracked and torn-up sidewalks. Windows are glassless, and rotted two-by-fours crisscross the gaps. The air around me is dead still, yet some of the windows have tattered drapes that flap in a breeze that doesn’t exist. My eyes search every angle, every sharp edge, every shadow. I glance down, and at my feet, a dead raven. Half of it’s smashed to the broken pavement, its wings unnaturally bent backward. The eyes have been burned out. Nothing but a singed hole looks up at me. I step over the dead raven, and it begins to flap its broken wings. Billy Squier’s “The Stroke” starts booming from one of the broken windows above me. My eyes scan the gaping holes, and I see nothing. I take a long breath and move forward. I can’t let this world get to me. Besides, I love Billy Squier. What the hell?

No sooner do I move five feet than my heart seizes. I feel it thump, heavy, like a chunk of lead, and my first and immediate thought is Eli. My eyes latch on to the church at the end of the street. He’s in there. I know it. I feel it.

FTC Advisory: Signet/Penguin provided me with a copy of Darklove. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

I jumped into the Dark Ink Chronicles a little late. I started with book #3. It’s OK though. I got to know and love our kick-ass, sassy heroine, Riley Poe and her hunka-hunka burnin’ love, Eligius Dupre. And then, in book #4, I watched everything fall apart. Book #5 of the Dark Ink Chronicles, Darklove is a fantastic book. With emotions high, Riley and Noah set out to rid Inverness, Scotland of a pesky rogue vampire problem only to find themselves neatly primed to vanquish a new paranormal being. Well, not so much new as a hybrid.

**SPOILERS FROM BOOK 4** At the end of Black Fallen, Riley was bereft. Think: Bella Swan during New Moon. Except, her only reason for living was revenge and keeping innocents safe. With both Eli and Victorian thought dead, Riley was largely comforted and protected (mostly from herself) by Noah. Even though he’s Eli’s best friend, that doesn’t stop him from developing feelings for Riley. Interesting, since he’s got that erotica talent that is kept at bay by a bag of herbs hanging ‘round his neck.

Whew. Alright. Now that I’ve gotten THAT out of the way, I can talk about Darklove. If you’ve been reading this series, you know that Riley is a total wild card. She’s a rogue that doesn’t always play by the rules, and that’s what makes her so incredibly effective against the paranormal creeps that are hanging around. At the beginning of the book, we see Riley trying to make it to a realm where she believes that Eli and Victorian exist. Again, going off-the-grid and leaving her constant companion, Noah – who promised Eli he would keep Riley safe – banked on a crap shoot. Whether the advice she’d gotten regarding the way to find her love, as well as a Stregoi that she’d grown to trust would work was of utmost importance to her.

Throughout the entire novel, one can only appreciate Riley’s tenacity. Even when faced with the possibility that Eli was lost to her, she never gave up hope, and never gave up on their love. I think that’s what wrapped me up in the story so tightly. I want to believe in that enduring, no-matter-what kind of love. I want to believe that Riley, with all her tendencies, will be able to fix everything. I also want to believe that Riley – after everything she’s gone through – will get that happily ever after.

One thing that kinda bugs me is that it seems like everyone is in love with Riley. Whether it’s a vampiric Arcos brother or Aithos, one of the black fallen, or even the new character with tendencies - musically inclined Rhine, they’re all enamored with Riley. Heck, even Eli’s own (unattached) brother is into Riley. It’s the way Riley is, though, and probably that vampire DNA that’s attached itself to her own DNA causing everyone to fall for the spunky chick.

Watching Riley further develop her talents – New and improved, with fallen angel! – was definitely awesome. She’s even more kick-ass now. It’s awesome to watch her manipulate situations in which she would have formerly been manipulated. She’s becoming a calculating adversary. I’m pretty sure everyone in the WUP (Worldwide Unexplained Phenomena) team is glad that she’s on their side. As the recent outbreak of drained corpses plagued Inverness, the gifts and talents Riley brought to the table were definitely appreciated by her comrades during battle. What’s kinda creepy is that little narcolepsy thing she’s got going on. It’ll be interesting to see how that plays out over another book or two.

Overall, I adored Darklove, the fifth title in Ms. Jasper’s Dark Ink Chronicles series. I really think that readers should have at least the fourth book under their belts prior to reading this one. Too much back story happens, and there’ll be things that are only touched on via the plot devices Ms. Jasper adeptly uses. I’m eager to see further adventures of Eli and Riley… and I simply adored the end of the story. *content sigh*

There have been reports that Darklove will be the last book in the Dark Ink Chronicles series by Elle Jasper, but that is only speculation due to the ending of this installment. Jasper ties up a lot of loose ends with Darklove, but also shows the possibility of new avenues to take the series, so readers will just have to read this one and wait to see if others follow. Jasper's knack for writing about the paranormal is showcased against Riley Poe's heartbreak at loosing her vampire lover Eli. They story is emotionally charged and full of surprises, readers will not be disappointed.

What I liked:

This is a very unconventional series, even for a paranormal reader. Fans have learned to love the tenacious main character, Riley Poe and her gang of interesting friends and foes. You have everything from vampires to fallen angels in this series and it never slows down. The pacing is incredibly fast and furious. Riley goes from one situation to another at break-neck speed. I liked that strong urgency that was present in Darklove. Riley is dead set on finding Eli and in order to do that she must first solve another problem with a rogue vampire. The pace doesn't slow down until the very satisfying ending and that made me want to read all the faster to see what happened next.

Riley is a great character. She started out a bit disillusioned in Afterlight but she has grown so much between that first book and this fifth one. In Darklove we see Riley as a very tenacious and determined woman. She know what she wants and she isn't afraid to take any risk to get it, including returning to hell on earth for Eli. But there is also a vulnerable side to her that endears the reader as they watch her agonize over Eli's supposed death. Jasper does an amazing job with this character.

Eli is definitely what I would call a dark hero. He is what he is and he isn't ashamed of it. He embraces his vampire abilities and he teaches Riley how to use her own gifts in previous books. In this one there is some possibility that Eli will be a very different character from what readers have learned to expect. That he may have some part in the slaughter of innocents. I liked the who idea that Riley may not be able to love him as he is now and how love triumphs in the end for these two unlikely lovers.

The ending was fantastic to say the least. Riley and Eli were certainly meant for each other and seeing them get their happy-ever-after has many readers wondering if this might be the end of the series. If it is... it was a great way to go out, if not... Jasper has shown some great possibilities for the future in this book as well. Perhaps a spin off series, or even more adventures for Riley. I'm looking forward to seeing where we go from here.

What I didn't like:

I have had this needling issue with this series throughout. It is a paranormal series and one must throw out their ideas of a convention and what is possible in order to enjoy it, however there is one part that I don't quite get. Riley must be absolutely irresistible because every single unattached character in the series has a thing for her. I understand that she is the heroine and to some extent that is natural, but I think Jasper goes a bit overboard with Riley's charisma sometimes, even Eli's brother is not immune... LOL. It was just a little over the top and certainly not a deal breaker in reading this wonderfully written series.

Bottom Line:

If you've read the others you are gonna love this one. If you haven't you have to read at least books three and four to make sense of some of the stuff that happens in Darklove, but you are going to go that far, why not read the whole thing? It's a great series and Darklove is probably my favorite so far. It's definitely worth your time if you love paranormal romance or just romance in general... Try something a bit out of your comfort zone, you might be surprised at what you like.

I highly recommend that you start this series from the beginning. A lot will be lost in translation if you don't.

In Book 5, Darklove, we get to see an emotional train wreck named Riley Poe. Her vampire fiance is presumed dead but then is discovered to possibly be trapped in an alternate realm. Her main mission, with Worldwide Unexplained Phenomena (WUP) partner Noah, takes them to Inverness. There is a rogue vampire that is indiscriminately killing humans out in the open that must be disposed of and fast.

Unfortunately, Riley's head isn't in the game since the realm that Eli may be trapped in can be accessed not far from where she and Noah are hunkered down. Using some of her "gifts," she is able to escape the protection detail, namely Noah, and get to the realm to see for herself. Riley finds more than she's bargained for, making her stay in the realm a little longer and bit more challenging. What ensues is a battle to understand the whys of what transpired after her escape from the realm.

Riley also discovers a link between the rogue and a vampire from her past that is not only disturbing but down right infuriating....for both Riley and the reader.

To prevent any unwanted spoilers I'll leave my general rundown of Darklove at what you've read above in the the synopsis and my review.

Let me just say that there is NEVER a dull moment in Darklove. Of the five installments, Book 5 is clearly my favorite since it's the only one to receive a 5 star rating. There isn't enough Riley/Eli time but that's the nature of this book. Noah is a fantastic character; strong and compassionate at the same time (which is unusual since vampires tend to lose most, if not all, of their humanity). The newbie characters, Rhine and his band of protectors, are a nice edition to the cast. Rhine, like Riley and Seth, has tendencies that help him and his group of friends keep the unruly paranormal creatures at bay.

Darklove ties up most of the lose ends from the rest of the series; however, the author left wiggle room for, perhaps, a spinoff or two?? If not, I won't be left wondering since the author did an excellent job of answering all of the burning questions and taking care of the most important issues. The voice the novel is told in and the really quick reunion/acceptance at the end (you'll have to read it to find out what I mean) are the only detractions from the novel and they didn't bother me enough to warrant a reduction in rating.

If you love (or even just like) the series, you'll love Darklove!!

Darklove, Dark Ink Chronicles #5, by Elle Jasper
Grade: B+

“Why does everyone love you so much Riley? Have you bewitched every male around you?”

Riley Poe saw her fiance killed right in front of her but Riley knows things are not what they appear to be. Determined to find her fiance Eli she dives deeper into the underworld of Inverness, Scotland where she finds many new surprises. Fighting new forces also means facing new powers and Riley must fight to keep her sanity if she has any hope of finding her fiance and bringing him back to her.
With the help of her friend Miles they will take on the new powers in the highlands, travel to new realms and make new alliances. Riley knows her love with Eli is a once in a lifetime kind of love and she will stop at nothing to get it back.

If you have never read the Dark Ink Chronicles please stop reading this and run as fast as you can to your nearest bookstore and kindle and start from the beginning. This is a complex series with tons of different characters and locations and by no means is this book meant as a stand alone. Riley Poe is by far one of my favorite characters in UF/PNR and in this book she becomes even more badass than I thought possible. For one thing Riley is broken in this book, very, very broken. Her fiance and very good friend have been killed trying to save humanity but Riley is convinced they are still alive. Here’s where the fun starts.

For the majority of the book it’s just Riley and Miles together. I love these two so much and they have a great chemistry that drags you into their world and keeps you there until the end. The beginning is a little slow and very dark. About a third through we meet the Ness Boys and these guys are game changers. The entire book picks up from here and turns into one giant action-adventure ride that I never wanted to get off of. I don’t want to give anything away but I think all Dark Ink Chronicle lovers will love this book and the new and old characters that appear.

I wasn’t a huge fan of this series when I first started but it has grown on me and this book just sealed its place in my must read list. I think all UF/PNR lovers will love this series and I highly recommend taking a ride on the crazy train with Riley and Elle Jasper. You will not be disappointed!

All of the Dark Ink Chronicles were absolutely amazing, these books sucked me in so fast! I was randonly searching for great new paranormal romance books and i found the first book Afterlight i think. Anyways i zipped thru these books and then coudnt wait for this last book to come out 'Darklove.' Riley Poe is my favorite sexy ass kicking heroine. She's hot, smart, rather unaware of how sexy she is, which makes her sexier, and has a heart of gold. She is kind of thrown into this mix of vampires, ghosts, and werewolves(among other crazy stuff too), when her lil brother and his friends go missing in the first book.Snatched up by evil vamps, Riley will let nothing stop her from saving her lil brother...she ends up teaming up with the delicious Eligious Dupre'...good vampire. And his entire 'good' vampire family. All the characters were so likable and awesome, i loved all of Eli's brothers and his sister and parents. The whole storyline is really appealing to me, espescially when Riley gets bitten by the 'evil' vamps, who are kind of like 'the originals' vamps. They have been around forever and they are downright deadly. She survives but now carries the 2 brothers vampy venom in her and it gives her remarkable supernatural powers.... But in this last book the search is on for Riley's fiance' Eli. He was seemingly murdered in the previous book by evil fallen angels. They find out in this book that Eli is alive and surviving in an alternate dimension under the powerful control of witch/vamp Carrine. Shes turned Eli evil and is having him kill. He does not even recognize Riley. at first. But with the help of the WUP (all different paranormal supernatural creatures) team that she is part of, and the awesome group of vampire hunters they run into, they are bound and determined to save Eli and put a stop to all the killing. Love these books, and i have noticed alot of ppl have not read them. I have read alottt of series and this is my favorite, right up there with the Fever series.

What I enjoyed most about this series was that Riley Poe was this chick who was a tattoo artist, who lived in new orleans, who had crazy/awesome tatts on her body as well. And what really put the icing on the cake was the kind of music she liked listening to while she used to kickbox/workout before she became a super human. I believe it was the first book that she mentioned listening to 30 seconds to mars while working out and I LOVE that band.

Now with that being said I kept reading the series because a) I did enjoy it because of key things and b) because I have a super huge crush on Noah, and c) I was really interested in how the series was going to end.

There were times when the story wasn't grabbing my attention as much as I would have like but I did enjoy meeting some new characters like Rhine. The only thing that gets to me though, about this series, is every man that meets Riley falls in love with her. Like EVERY guy.. And its not like "oh she is hot, I'd date her," no its "I really wish I met her before she met Eli, I could love her forever, she is the only woman I think about." It kind of gets a little much.

The book was interesting and definitely different from when you meet riley and the gang from the first book. I did like the Epilogue though. I thought that was a really cute ending to the book.

Its not a bad book, and the series itself is pretty good too, but for me there was just a little something missing that made me not want to put the book down.

If you like vampires, an inked bad a*** chick, the whole new orleans setting, action, and romance then you will like the book/series

Ok. It should be a 5 star. This is the final book right? Anyway, Riley just keeps surprising us. Even her lack of common sense makes sense. "Don't go alone Riley." What does she do? Goes out alone. :/ "Stick close to Miles" then she goes, "I need to be alone, Alone!" Ugh! We know it's because but come on! Sheesh. So you can imagine that 1st part of this book is torture for me but a necessity to make the whole story congruent.

The story or my interest picks up when they meet the Ness boys. After that, it was hard for me to put the book down.

The men in the story... Wow, everyone loves Riley, like seriously. In love or in lust. And everyone is a male model, even the humans. Now that's what I call fantasy. Hahaha! Eli is really lucky. Miles here is really sweet like crazy loyal and crazy in control. Poor guy, give him his own woman.

The book sounds like the series can still continue or spin offs can happen but I want this series to end here. This is the epic ending. Just seems like EJ left potential novellas or spin off opportunities here and there.

I've read this series about three times now and I've had a different thought each time. I first read them last summer and I loved them, I thought the characters were great and the storyline was interesting. The second time, the characters lost some of their appeal, mostly Riley, and the story line was less interesting. The last time I read them, which was recent, I abhorred Riley for the majority of of the series and thought she was a tad ridiculous. I loved the side characters more than the main ones and would have rather read about them. I didn't like that most everyone was in love with Riley and thought the sun shone out her ass, because, really, it didn't and she was mostly just ridiculous throughout the entire series. I also didn't like that everyone could mind read, I felt like they could have just spoken telepathically instead of having actual conversations. It was annoying. I did like the relationships that Riley had with the Dupre's and how they were there for each other throughout the series. I would love to see spinoff stories about the rest of the characters: Phin, Noah, Victorian, Luc and Nix, to be exact. I loved that Luc and Nix got together (and engaged) but I didn't like the fact that it was just thrown in there like an after thought. I would've liked to see it pan out in the story instead of just getting a line.

Riley Poe's love Eligius "Eli" Dupre is lost to her since Edinburgh. She's become a shell of who she used to be harder and colder without him. Jake Andorra founder of Worldwide Unexplained Phenomena (WUP) has assigned Noah Miles and Riley to cover the rogue vampires over running Inverness. Riley's unusual ability to dream keeps her seeing her love and another woman together. When Riley comes face to face with Eli, she's stunned to see him kissing another woman. Riley has jealousy ripping thru her to attack but Noah holds her back until they know more. Noah and Riley meet up with Rhine MacLeod, human with vampiric tendencies taking care of vampires, werewolves, and other nasty supernatural creatures. Rhine explains that Carrine is witch and vampire or witchpire and a powerful one at that. Can Riley get Eli away from Carrine? Who else is pulling Carrine's strings? Will Eli come back to Riley whole? Your answers await you in Darklove.

I love this series! Riley is kickass and powerful person. Eli is lost to her but has moments where he seems to know recognize her. I sincerely hope this series continues. I highly recommend this book and the rest of the series for anyone looking for strong female character.

As much as I wanted to read this book for the resolution of the story, there were several major issues with the writing that caused me to give it three stars.

The present tense was especially irritating to me, but I could've overlooked it if it weren't for the wildly swinging between sometimes giving too much detail and sometimes leaving me flat confused with too little. Several times, I went back to reread a few pages trying to find something I though I'd skipped over. Also, several major plot turns seemed very out of character for both Riley and Noah, and several times, information comes their way seemingly out of nowhere.

Even with all its problems, it was an entertaining story, and I'm glad to have wrapped up the loose ends.

I love this series...what else can I say...just this...read this book...read this series...it is awesome and gut wrenching and you'll love Riley and Eli and all of the wonderful characters.
As is typical of Ms. Jasper's stories this one will have you on the edge of your seat...glued to your chair.
Noah is sooooo wonderful, strong and loyal...I really fell in love with him in this story.
You can just feel the love Riley has for Eli; it makes you feel like they are real and not just characters on a page.
This girl is tough as nails and sexy as hell and nothing and no one will stand in the way of her finding Eli...loved it!!!
HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Well what a way to finish the series!
This book, just like the rest of the Dark Ink Chronicles, has it all. Action, funny moments, moments you want to hurt certain characters, times you want join Riley on her emotional journey but most of all you want to be part of the ever expanding friends and family.
It was great to see the introduction of new characters that fitted in well with the ongoing saving Eli storyline. Riley was her normal kick ass self throughout and that just makes you love the story more!

I'm glad at how the story and series ended but I'm sad to see it finish!

I'm confused, since we got our happy ending and all bad guys were vanquished, does this mean it's the end of the series?

I did like the story, however I found it more laid back than the rest of the novels in the series. I'm also sad she married Eli, I'm glad he is alive but I liked it so much better when she had all the guys wanting her. It kept Eli on his toes.

This book is written as the ending of a series, I missed two highly anticipated conversations that where just skipped/forgotten. Low on Ri/Eli scenes.

Full review will come closer to release date.

I am sadden with the way the book was written as if it is the end of the series, if that is the case, I will truely miss Riley & Eli. I did enjoy this book as I have all the rest I will not get into detail as I do not want to spoil the read for anyone who has not read this one yet.

I am absolutely in love with this series Riley Poe is an amazing character. Her only flaw is her one tracked mind that is like tunnel vision. I love how Eli compliments her and how loyal they are together. I can't wait to see future installments and see what happens.

I was surprised but this was actually pretty damn good and clawed back my kinda of dissapointedness from the last book. I think it ended off the series nicely.I also liked Rhine, he was pretty cool but I kind of wish they would address a kind of important thing, like who and what his dad is!
