There were quite a few hardcore smoking recipes that can’t really be done right without a smoker so if you don’t have one you are going to be missing out on about a quarter of the book, that being said the recipes you do have access to are vast and amazing! I really liked all the recipes I made and I didn’t have any flops. Interesting takes on recipes I have made before with the only downside, perhaps, that much of the ingredients he uses are too specific. For example, instead of saying spicy mustard the ingredient Bobby uses is Creole mustard which none of my mid-western grocery stores carry. He also uses straight up hard to find ingredients like guava jelly and treviso. The good side is there is a source section so you can order the hard to find items online or do like would do and find something similar locally and use that instead. most of the recipes are in the 4-6 range and most of what I made would have been easy to cut in half. A few things in the drinks section made just a couple drinks. I really liked this book and all the recipes worked well and tasted great.
I originally only picked this book up to skim through since I'm a big Bobby Flay fan. But, as soon as I saw how beautifully designed BF's Barbecue Addiction was, I knew I wanted to look a bit more into it. Then, when I read the first section of the book and how detailed he went into how to choose a grill, etc. I decided to purchase the cookbook. I don't have anything like it on my shelf and it has very useful information for the future. All of his recipes sound delicious and I can't wait to try some out with my family this summer!
I am a big Bobby Flay fan and his cookbooks just keep getting better and better. As a grilling novice I really appreciate his detailed information about grills and grilling. The recipes all sound wonderful and his instructions make the recipes seem effortless (well almost) if you are willing to invest the time. His recipes have never disappointed and I can't wait to cook my way through this one.
A cautionary tale down the dark, grotesque path of where Bobby Flay's, or, for that matter, any human being's barbecue addiction can and will eventually lead too. The real, 'A Million Little Pieces' for this generation because it wasn't written by a greedy, manipulative liar. No Oprah apology required!
A really nice selection of grill recipes for all of the meat families, including some game. There were only a small number that I wouldn't make or that didn't tickle my fancy.
Flay delves into what/how makes grilling successful.
If it wasn't a Food Network cookbook, I would have purchased it.
2.5 Stars. As with many cookbooks the pictures are the best part, and the knowledge that no matter how good I am at cooking, my que will never look as good as the images. Got some good ideas for different meals, though, so that was a plus.
I am a big Bobby Flay fan, so it was my first checkout at the library. It doesn't disappoint! All the recipes were great. I was sad when I had to turn it in.
