Rate this book

Year of our Lord 1235 A.D., Dorset, England

An epic Medieval romance written in the same old-world vein as 'Ivanhoe', this is a tremendously powerful story of Sir Bose de Moray and the Lady Summer du Bonne.

Bose was the Captain of the Guard for King Henry III until Bose's wife's untimely death in childbirth. Blaming himself and wanting to be free of the memories, he resigns his post and joins the tournament circuit to compete for money and fame.

But dark rumors follow Bose; his mother-in-law is a vicious woman who blames Bose for her daughter's death. She starts nasty rumors that Bose murdered his wife, and everyone on the tournament circuit is fearful of this dark, frightening knight.

Enter the Lady Summer du Bonne. A beautiful woman with a stammering problem, she has been kept hidden away from the world by her embarrassed father and protective brothers. Summer meets Bose at a tournament hosted by her brothers and for Bose, and it is love at first sight. But the terrible rumors plague his attempts to get to know the lady, who is attracted to him as well. Summer's drunken father eventually pledges his daughter to Bose. However, Bose's mother-in-law interferes and Summer's father decides to pledge Summer to an unscrupulous knight who has shown interest in her, and who would like nothing better than to see de Moray come to ruin.

With so many forces working against them, Bose and Summer elope but they are captured and Bose is brought up on charges of thievery. A massive trial ensues and with a death sentence hanging over his head, only a miracle can save Bose and restore his honor.

A interesting story. It is a historical romance set in 1200's London. A knight that fights to keep his young new wife. If you like Monica McCarty's stories, then you will like this one.

Oh Jesus...
Where to begin?
Once upon a time I used to love Kathryn Le Veque. Ok, maybe not love but...really really like her. I found her books cute and endearing.
description
What happened?
The hell if I know. At some point they all just started to seem... BLAH. Every four or five months I try to go back to her because I love Medieval romances and she is the most super prolific medieval romance writer out there but...I just can't keep pretending anymore.

I've just finished this book in another attempt to go back to my old love for this author...but I don't think I can do it anymore. I've read tons of four or five stars reviews so maybe it's a case of 'It's not you, it's me' but I have to express my feelings. Sorry folks.
description
1)You've read one of Kathryn Le Veque's books, you've read them all. Hot, muscular, powerful, handsome knight meets beautiful, amazing, angelic heroine.
Love at first sight ensues! And when I say 'at firts sight' I mean it. In the Gorgon they meet and fall in love in like two days. I know it can happen, but this happens in almost all of her books and usually the only interesting quality of the heroine is her beauty. But we'll talk about the heroine later cause...oh boy.
What happens in another Le Veque novel after the meet cute? Ah yes the hero is in love, the two lovebirds confess their feelings, some crazy villain tries to separate them, often without even a believable reason.
description
Everything is crazy for a while and then things finish with a nice and good happy ending with lots of babies.
description
2)The heroine in this book is the perfect exemple of every Le Veque heroine out there. Summer is perfect. An angel of beauty and perfection. Sweet, caring, honest, compassionate. Have I said that she is perfect?Oh please kill me now. I've lost count of how many times the author uses the word perfect.
description
Besides...she is not. She's a fucking pain in the ass who cries every f*****g minute.
3)The hero: Bose. Oh good Lord. I love alpha heroes but Bose, like all the author's heroes, is...ugh. I don't know, he creeps me off. All her heroes are assholes or men who have gone through terrible grief in their lives. Jesus Christ but this author loves killing off wives and children of the heroes. Bose wasn't even that bad... just bland. At least he is hot and sexi and rich and powerful.
And thiiiis brings us to point 4
4)The hero has: massive arms, a massive chest, a massive horse, a massive castle,a massive...ehm ehm. Seriously, what is wrong with this author and the word massive? She keeps repeating it over and over again. Ok, we get it. The man is big. OMG. Also...someone must tell Ms. Le Veque to stop using the word 'orbs' instead of eyes. Please, I can't stop laughing.
5)Sorry but the characters are flat. There is no dept at all. The villains are just bad guys and nothing more. The good guys are perfect, no flaws, nothing. I wanna know why people do what they do, Their motives and their pain.
6)Some of the speech is...florid to say the least. For example one of the villains accuses the hero of murdering her daughter because "He put his strong and potent seed inside of her..."
description
What the fuck
Who speaks like that?
Again...nothing against the author but I had to say it. I don't think this is my cup of tea anymore.

If you love an epic story full of passion, love, action, honor, courage, humor, and villians; this is for you! You really get to to know and fall in love with not just the main characters but a whole arsenal of minor charcaters as well. Bose the hero is the perfect knight, but is guilt ridden over his wifes death in childbirth. And it doesn't help matters he has an evil deranged mother-in-law that abuses him verbally, emotionally, and physically. Bose is also constantly plagued by rumors (thanks to his mother-in-law) that he murderd his wife. The rumors never bothered him until he meets Summer. Summer is exactly like her name bright, beautiful, and with an open honesty thats refreshing. She has one small flaw...she stutters. Her family is very protective especially her wonderful older brothers. They don't want her hurt from the cruel world that would judge her harshly. I LOVED her older brothers. I wish they had their own books!! I couldn't decide which relationship I liked more; Bose and Summer's or her and her brothers. Bose even had his own "band of brothers" that look out for each other. This story is very rich in characters and character development. I was so attached to them I didn't want the story to end. I also have to say I like how this author makes her characters (male and female) emotionally open. They cry, laugh, and love openly and that is as wonderful in a book as it is in real life.

I enjoyed that Bose and Summer fell for eachother with out some big misunderstanding between them. I find a LOT of romance novels do that. And while I do enjoy it sometimes its refreshing to see it doesn't always have to be that way. They love eachother and will do anthing to be with one another.

If you are a lover of medieval romances you have to check this one out! You won't be sorry! ;)

3.5/5.0

This one had a few plot devices that were hard to make believable for me but it was still the addicting, can't put down read I've come to know and love from this author!

Margot is a wicked witch ! I hate her so so so much. Somehow her character felt really real, her hate toward Bose and her vicious need to control and manipulate people around her is despicable. She is the kind of villain that is pure black, with no shade of grey (like the jealous knight... I forgot his name because I just call him "pimple face" in my head). I mean, sure, she's sad about the loss of her daughter. But she was manipulative from the very beginning.
Anyway, I love Bose and Summer. Some things about their relationship or the way Bose deals with Summer's stutter weren't perfect, but I still enjoy this book a lot. I mean, I don't care for perfection. All I care about is the way the book makes me feel. And this one was very sweet, their love was tender and I love the communication between the two of them.
The secondary characters were awesome! I loved Summer's brother and Duncan !!! I want to read their story now !! (I need to investigate this author more, this book was the first one from her)

Well~written and well~crafted. It is also a very creditable representation of medieval times (at least for me) because I was deeply immersed in the story. The author is truly a Gifted Storyteller and I am quite happy to be counted among those who can empathize in this milieu. I suppose grief over the death of a loved one as well as jealousy and envy are all negative emotions that can cause some people to be crazed. I may be considered blood thirsty about this but I am glad that Breck and Margot got what they truly deserved. It is poetic justice that Margot must die by Bose's hand if only to let her know that he could have done away with her all those years ago but he didn't and she wielded his guilt as a weapon to torment him. So it is just right that he experience a deeper relationship and love with Summer for his second chance of having a family and strive for peaceful contentment. I am still chuckling at that Epilogue.

Loved it!

Another wonderful le Vecque book! This one tells the story of a great knight, Bose de Moray, who meets the beautiful Summer de Bonne at a tournament to celebrate her younger brother's knighthood. The attraction is immediate but there are a lot of obstacles to keep them appear. When all options are exhausted and Bose is in big trouble, it takes help from a very unexpected source to save the day!

The Gorgon by Kathryn Le Veque is an amazing listen/read. Lord De Beaux is a widowor of four years, his beloved wife dying in childbirth along their son. His mother-in-law, a viper and hateful and spiteful because she blames De Beaux for her only child's death. He left the King's Guard to join the jousting tournments. A fellow Lord grew to hate De Beaux because of his winnings. De Beaux catches the eye of a very beautiful woman and then trouble ensues.

I read this book back to back with another book from the same author because I was so much taken in by the atmosphere of the Middle Ages. This book didn’t disappoint either. Slowly paced, the plot unraveled gradually, keeping me riveted from cover to cover. I loved Bose de Moray. His true character and mature behavior in difficult and delicate situations saved the day many times. Lady Summer was less “urban” but her persona fit the storyline perfectly. Very nice!

This book was awesome from start to finish. Not one dull page. The characters were extraordinary and I hope to read about some of them in future books. I have to say that Bose definitely is a favorite of mine as there is just something about him. This was a wonderful tale.

Wonderful and impacting

Remarkable and full of pageantry. Ms. Le Veque writes full bodied stories that capture your imagination and emotions. Her heroines are strong and independent and her Knights breathtakingly strong and powerful...just perfect!!

Full of Suspense and Romance

This story is the type that is hard to put down once you start reading. From the inception of the couple's interest in one another it seems as if the whole world is against them. Highly recommended!

Exciting Romance

Kathryn Lee Veque never disappoints with her medieval romances. I wonder though, at this time in history were the terms darling and sweetheart actually used?

I thought this story was highly entertaining and I had a hard time tearing myself away from it. The only thing I didn't care for was that the heroine seemed to be perpetually crying over something. But then, she was young and lived a sheltered life so its understandable. The hero was awesome and so were her brothers. Great cast of characters and a story I will probably read again.

I hate Margot and Edward. And Bose seems too good to be true, allowing his MIL to manipulate him like that.
