Aria in the Starless Night is a side story of the Sword Art Online series. It shows Kirito and Asuna's first meeting. The first floor Boss fight is also shown, as well as the origin of the term «Beater». This takes place before Volume 1's main events. it also has a ME continuation.
Wow the discontinuity of these light novels is terrible. With each side story, more continuity errors appear. Still an enjoyable story though, but with a little more effort in checking the facts it could be a lot better.
I enjoyed this a lot more than I expected too. I know this story quite well, but it was nice finally seeing it expanded upon. If all the other “Progression” books are like this, this is going to be a great series.
I had heard reference to this Light Novel (LN) series before, but never heard for or against it. If you are a fan of LNs I would recommend this series right away! The series gives me the same feeling as Spice and Wolf, but has more action and brings in an MMO/.hack feel to it as well; both good things as far as I am concerened! I plan to continue on with the rest of the LN series, but I wanted to read this one first so I could get the true beginning. :)
If you've seen the tv series, this short story is episode two, when they're going to go after the first boss on the first floor. But don't think you know everything if you've seen the show, there's enough differences and extra things that make it definitely worth reading.
wow the battle is sooooo much longer than the anime version and Kirito & Asuna's first meeting is different. but nonetheless, it feels good to know more details about the story
A Fresh Start, Some major changes from the original version, but the author said this is how he wanted the story to be like. Hence it's to be considered as Canon.
