Readers become writers, and Christina has always been a reader. Ultimately she discovered she liked to read romance best because the relationship between a man and a woman is always humorous. A woman wants world peace, a clean house, and a deep and meaningful relationship based on mutual understanding and love. A man wants a Craftsman router, undisputed control of the TV remote, and a red Corvette which will make his bald spot disappear. When Christina’s first daughter was born, she told her husband she was going to write a book. It was a good time to start a new career, because how much trouble could one little infant be? Ha! It took ten years, two children and three completed manuscripts before she was published. Now her suspense, paranormal, historical, and mystery novels have been translated into 30 languages and sold more than 15 million copies in print. Praised for her “brilliantly etched characters, polished writing, and unexpected flashes of sharp humor that are pure Dodd” (Booklist), her award-winning books have landed on numerous Best of the Year lists and, much to her mother's delight, Dodd was once a clue in the Los Angeles Times crossword puzzle. She lives with her family in the Pacific Northwest, where her 700 lavender plants share the yard with her husband’s various “Big Projects,” including a treehouse, zipline, and their very own Stonehenge. Her legions of fans know that when they pick up a Christina Dodd book, they'll find the story, "Wildly entertaining, wickedly witty!" Christina is married to a man with all his hair and no Corvette, but many Craftsman tools.
I feel kind of bad giving this less than four stars since I normally love this author and this series has really come into its own. However, the writing wasn't up to snuff in my opinion. I think it felt too thin and maybe a little silly at times. That is really harsh of me, but there you have it.
I love British and Irish heroes, but Liam felt a little too much like a caricature instead of a fleshed out hero. Amanda was fine. The idea of the Other who could turn people into living statues, now that was pretty brilliant, and so was Liam's ability. Also the message about love and sacrifice. I also enjoyed revisiting the Chosen Ones, most of whom are happily married. Aleksander is AWOL, and Charisma is worried about him. Pretty soon, I'll read Wilder and find out what happens there. Looking forward to it.
Overall, pretty good short read, but also disappointing in comparison to others by the author. It's not up to the same caliber of writing for Ms. Dodd. I think the short format was a factor.
Stone Angel is a e-novella in The Chosen Ones series by Christina Dodd written with Audrey Shaw. While the main characters of the series play a role, the story is centered on nurse Amanda Reed and the choices she has been forced to make to free her sister from The Others.
In order for her rescue plan to succeed, Amanda must rely on the assistance and special abilities of Liam Gallagher, the man she loved before he betrayed the sisters to The Others. Liam is determined to help Amanda and prove his love no matter the cost...and when you work for the Devil himself, that cost could be very high indeed!
I enjoyed Stone Angel and it was nice to visit the series again before the the final book, Wilder, is released August 7, 2012. Stone Angel could be read as a stand alone, but I would recommend reading the previous installments of the series first so you'll have a full understanding of the factions and the players.
The saving grace of the story was catching up with the Chosen Ones. The whole Liam and Amanda thing happened to fast for me to believe, I would have thought it would require more forgiveness for a guy who turned you and your sister over to the bad guys (and got your sister frozen as a statue).
It was a good rescue attempt and I was glad to see some of the bad guys get theirs. Looking forward to the last book to see Osgood hopefully, finally get his.
Although it starts out initially looking to be a Charisma short – she's one of the Chosen who still needs to be mated – it instead is a story of Amanda, Irving's nurse, who initially looks to be a viper in their midst but instead turns out to be a pawn betrayed by Liam, the man she loved, and force into helping the Others spy on the Chosen with her sister being held hostage to insure her cooperation.
I really enjoyed Stone Angel, there were just some really intriguing elements to the story, Liam's power is cool and the whole idea behind the Sculptor's ability to trap his victims in stone is chilling but very interesting as well. I also like Liam, the not so bad boy with a heart, and I liked that when all is said and done everyone gets exactly what they deserve.
So Stone Angel is a nice little Chosen Ones connected short that wet my appetite for the final book, the upcoming Wilder, without really moving the series forward. And has me really wondering, with the title Wilder is sounds like it will be Aleksandr's story (who appears to have been beguiled into marriage, but who really isn't 'technically' a Chosen) but Charisma still needs her HEA - fortunately I don't have long to wait to see what happens as Dodd wraps up her series.
Amanda is a nurse for Irving while he is recovering from his fall and stroke but she has a secret. She has been blackmailed into harming him in order to save her sister from the Sculptor. Liam is the man that betrayed her and her sister. Every week she has to share information on the Chosen Ones. Liam is trying to make Amanda see his side. After teaming up to save her sister, can they forgive each other?
This is a good addition to The Chosen Ones Series. Although Amanda and Liam are not part of the Chosen Ones, their destinies are intertwined with them. This is a story of how love can change lives. If you like The Chosen Ones, you will enjoy this story.
Liam and Amanda story was ok, it works in the middle of the series, we see the Chosen Ones, but it does nothing for the series plot line. It’s a bonus, with a shapeshifter guy as the lead, and a nurse that’s taking care of Irving, trying to save her sister, who’s power is creating force fields.

I've been a Christina Dodd fan for years, but this may have been the final nail in the automatically-to-buy coffin. I haven't been terribly impressed with any of her books for the last two or three years (although I loved all but one of the Fortune Hunters books, and loved 2 of the 4 Darkness Chosen books, I didn't love any of the Terra Bella series, and the only Chosen Ones book I've thought was worth re-reading was the first one) and the books in the three years prior to that have been very hit-or-miss for me. This was definitely a miss, and it shouldn't have been because the plot had so much potential.
I like short stories, and I'm usually not the kind of person who thinks that there should be more to a short story than there is - if the author is good, a short story should be fully realized, otherwise the author would have turned it into a full-length novel. Unfortunately, "Stone Angel" definitely gave the impression it would have benefited from a longer page length. The characters were pretty shallow, and the heroine goes from I-hate-this-man-who-betrayed-me (and technically, Liam, he really did betray her - he wasn't an undercover double-agent trying to learn the secrets of the Dark Ones the way a lot of heroes who have betrayed their heroines are; he was a Dark One who apparently had no trouble doing nasty things to people for years before he met Amanda) to oh-my-god-we're-having-earth-shattering-amazing-sex-even-though-I'm-a-virgin-and-oh-I've-loved-him-all-along in about one page and with very little reasoning to support it. I get that you have to lend a certain amount of disbelief to a romance novel to believe that two characters who've spent the entire book fighting each other are suddenly going to manage to have a happy-ever-after marriage. But when you find out that the guy you've fallen in love with has only been with you to lead bad guys to your sister - and then he DOES lead bad guys to your sister (after trying to half-heartedly warn you that the bad guys are on their way) - it should require more than just oh-I-love-him faith on your part to trust that he's not actually, you know, a BAD GUY. Of course because this is a romance novel, we knew that Liam wasn't REALLY a bad guy, just more of a Han Solo anti-hero type who would come through int he end, but there should really be more than just the requirement of oh-I'm-a-character-in-a-romance-novel-so-this-will-end-fine before the guy who helped bad guys find your sister is suddenly let into your top-secret circle of friends.
Furthermore, the plot itself seemed like it was only half thought out, with a cardboard villain committing dastardly activities that seemed like they were only focused on to fill the page count, which shouldn't have been an issue since, again, this was a short story.
I'm going to give Ms. Dodd one final chance with "Wilder", but that is really because I already own all of the rest of the Chosen Ones books and it seems like a shame to not own the full set - my fritzy OCD just won't allow it. If I don't love that one, I'll still be reading Ms. Dodd, but only when the books are checked out from the library. My wallet just can't take more disappointment.
"Stone Angel" by Christina Dodd. Novella 4.5 of the Chosen Ones series.
I really enjoyed reading this novella. The characters of Amanda and Liam were established very quickly with just enough background so that you feel for the characters. The Chosen Ones are in the story, they are not the main focus. But if you read this without reading the series, that would be fine. The story is very easy to follow and gives enough information from the series to know who is who and what is going on.
I really like it. Can't wait for the last book in the series!!
I'm sorry, Christina, but I would love it if you write a book by yourself instead of sharing. Don't get me wrong but I am a fan of yours and I've read plenty of your books and I could distinguished clearly that some parts in this novella is not your writing. And I don't like that. I know it's horrible for me to say this but I think the story would be so, so, so much better if you are the only one who's writing.
I think with this I only have one left in this series to read...I think? I'll have to double check later. This was a super quick side story and I liked it. It can be read as a standalone, but you'll get more of the fear and fraughtness better if you've read the other books. It was nice having a story about someone other than the holy Chosen Ones. I also liked getting a better peer at what The Others COULD be. Recommend, with the caveat that this is a quick bit of a fluff. Okay for Aayesha ;)
Great little e-novella, featuring Irving's nurse, Amanda. I appreciated Dodd giving us something fun to read before Wilder came out in August. Funny, touching, and some of the best meal descriptions I've ever heard. =)
A nice little interlude. However, I was disappointed in the editing of this ebook. I got the amazon kindle version of this and there were A LOT of typos.
