What a beautiful book this is! Diana: The Portrait by Rosalind Coward has so many phenomenal photographs and portraits as well as en extremely thorough narrative by Ms. Coward of Diana, Princess of Wales, it makes me feel as though Princess Diana is still here. What a tragedy that she is not! I admired the Princess throughout her public life. She was a dynamic mother to fabulous sons, a fashion icon as she wore any and everything beautifully which is shown in this book, a dedicated patron of many charities which became only six at the time of her horrible death, an excellent Ambassador for Great Britain worldwide, and a truly compassionate person which is illuminated in this book. Diana: The Portrait is broken into the areas covered by the following partial statement and the final sentence of the eulogy her brother, Earl Charles Spencer, gave at her funeral on September 6, 1997. “-the unique, the complex, the extraordinary,...the irreplaceable. Diana whose beauty .....will never be extinguished from our minds.” These five parts contain 200 plus interviews and over 500 photographs - some never have been published before. My very favorite photos and interview are with Wayne Sleep, Diana’s dancing partner to Billy Joel’s Uptown Girl, at Friends Christmas Party at Covent Garden. The Princess wanted to dance for her husband, Prince Charles, as a “Christmas present”. Reading about this “Christmas present” made me smile and laugh. “She was hysterical with giggles just before we went on......Well, when she came on I’ve never heard 2500 people gasp at the same time. I made her do eight walks. Uptown, three, four, five, seven, eight, look at the audience, three four, five, six, seven, eight, in order for them to register it was her.......Then I gave her another eight steps. I knew what the audience was going to think.”

“So we did a little bit of ballet in the routine, we did a bit of tap and then we did a big kick line from Chorus Line. It was perfectly up her street. And we made it funny. We did a one-up thing. She’d do a pirouette; I’d do a pirouette. She’d look at me, smug, push me down and kick over my head and go there, and walk away. It was so hysterical. And then when we did the kick line at the end.......it brought the house down......I think she developed self-confidence through doing this. The dance she did with me was the first that she showed complete defiance of what they wanted. And it was something none of the rest could do. It gave her strength......” Wayne Sleep. How fun and how talented! What a Christmas present that must have been!

Princess Diana gave a great deal of herself in everything she did. The reader is able to see that in this throughout this book, and many of the good things she did were never caught by the press. She would do something just because she wished to do it. For example, having breakfast at 7:30 am with a patient in the hospital with whom she had become friends. Princess Diana was an extremely compassionate person. The statements made by people illustrates that they knew and understood her. “Lady Diana was the most beautiful symbol of humanity and love for all the world.” Luciano Pavarotti 1997. This book does tug at one’s heart, but it is also uplifting. I cannot recommend Diana:
A Portrait highly enough. Beautifully done.

This is one FANTASTIC and important book that portrays the undeniable heart, soul and courage of Diana, Princess of Wales, who cared so much about people, and sought to make so many positive changes in our world. Diana is still a living example of taking what you've got in life, and turning it around to make lasting and positive change for others. The book is extraordinary! It is a HUGE, beautiful coffee table size book that captures the true Diana. Rosalind Coward did one outstanding job. This book is an inspiration, and brings the truth about Diana to light. She is still a beacon in the dark, and her causes, thanks to this book, will continue to help others, just as Diana would have wanted them to. A MUST Buy and Read!

Hoe noemt men dat tegenwoordig?

This book is full of amazing pictures and the story of Diana's life from child to the People's Princess. It takes a long time to read and look at all the photographs, but it really goes into detail about her charities and how much she loved to help people. What a sad ending to a wonderful person.

i love princess diana. i remember my mother waking us up in the wee hours of the morning to watch the royal wedding on tv. the old vhs recording of that day survives still in a cabinet above the television in the den of my mother's house. i will remember until the day i die the night diana was killed; i sat glued to the television for days afterward watching news coverage of british crowds leaving an ocean of flowers at the gates of kensington palace, the tidal wave of photos from her life, and the funeral- william and harry, just boys, walking the distance between buckingham palace and westminster cathedral, her brother's eulogy, over and over again the media montage of her life.

i simply think she is stunning. in her life and in her death she changed the face of royalty, for britain and the world. my husband asks me "what are we going to do with a book about princess diana?" i simply tell him that i will look at it over and over again, and probably make him look some, too.

Lots of interesting stories of people that came into contact with Princess Di and the impact she had on the world. If she had received more training and support when first becoming Princess Di her story might have changed. Sad situation all around.

Very beautiful telling of Diana's life and none of the junk. The book itself is the size of a coffee table book.
