Usagi goes from village darling to castle clown, but that's not going to stop her from doing her best! She's going to get her man and become a ninja, and not even two super-skilled shinobi beauties can stop her!
Usagi is the granddaughter of the leader of a prestigious ninja village, but she's such a klutz that she's never made it out of the kiddie class. Frustrated with Usagi's lack of progress, her grandfather sends her to marry Lord Hanzo and have lots of ninja babies. But the lord has no interest in her or her childbearing potential!
Usagi's mission to bear Hanzo's child is not going well. The father of her future babies has no interest in her, and she has a beautiful, brilliant rival. In order to regroup, Usagi goes back to her home village, arriving just in time for the annual Ninja Games--and the prize is a love potion! In order to win the race Usagi agrees to team up with her ex-fiancé Goemon...and then Hanzo drops by the village unannounced! Who will win in this game of love?

Pretty entertaining. I like the introduction of Goemon. Interesting ending. Curious to see where her stay there goes. I liked that Usagi got closer to Hanzo in this book. Overall a hilarious book! 5 stars. Very fun.
If I thought the last volume has amusing, awkward scenes this one has more. And naked too! To those wondering, yes it is clean. We don't see anything. Strange bathtub encounters especially. We get a new character who takes joins center stage in this volume. Goemon. We met him briefly at the end of volume one but this one gives us a much better look. Got to say, I am not impressed. He seems alright but arrogant in strange ways and I don't get why he is suddenly interested is Usagi. But then Usagi is obsessed with Hanzo though she barely knows him. I like how Uagi is trying to put Hanzo's feelings above her own. And even Hanzou's and the princess. I do like her quite a bit.
This was so good that I kept reading even though I was running on 4hrs of sleep and was late at night. Eating this up like candy doesn't even describe how fast I went through this and the next volume. I inhaled them! I'm so glad I finally picked this up!
I was so overwhelmed by how much effort was put into this volume. I can easily tell that it was done with a lot of thought, effort, and time. This volume had my heart aching and I laughed. This just keeps getting better and better.
Excuse me while I get myself under control, but for the record, WHAT EVEN.
You know that the main Love Interest is written just a shade too dull when you're catching feelings for the pushy Childhood Friend Love Interest and would rather see them end up with the MC. I did not expect to end up liking Goemon as much as I am when I had set down the first volume but listen. LISTEN. I have a soft spot already.
If you couldn't tell by now, I'm still absolutely enjoying where this series is going. It still does a great job of balancing all its thematic elements without over-focusing on any one of them for too long a stretch of time, and so far I don't think I've been introduced to a single character that I actively dislike. They're all flawed and it's still very early, so it's not like they have a ton of development and depth written into them yet, but they're all incredibly charming in their own ways, and between all of that I feel like I'm going to continue enjoying this series as I read through.
On a serious note, I do love that Usagi's skill with herbalism is really being focused on. It's nice to see an area in which she's passionate and knowledgeable about something, and excels at it. The narrative feels like it focuses a little too much at times about her shortcomings and weak points, so it's nice to get those scenes where her knowledge and skill with medicines can really shine, and I do want to see her blossom in that regard.
On a slightly less serious note, I absolutely saw the plot twist of chapter 14 coming, but you know what? That didn't make it any less hilarious.
When I first read this section of the series, it was through the Shoujo Beat magazine. At that time, I didn't really notice it as much, but reading the chapters back to back in the manga, the pacing is very quick. I would say this is appropriate for young teens by the way the characters act and how immature they all are, except for the naked sections... Not sure how to gauge it as I thought it was really scandalous as a kid, but it's not that bad, lol
I do like Goemon as a character, but I'm not really on board for his feelings for Usagi. I just find it weird he enthusiastically agreed to marrying her when he was a child and she was an infant. Then there's the whole back and forth of it all.
If I was reading this for the first time I would probably stop here, but I know where the story goes and I'm revisiting the whole series.
I must be an outlier here but I’m not getting into this. It’s still very early, so I will definitely check out the next volume, but I find it difficult to understand the characters. They all feel flat. Usagi’s infatuation with Hanzo feels shallow and it’s irritating to see her proclaim her “love” for him. Also, there is a point in the book in which a character is surprised Usagi is a girl and not a boy…but in that chapter said “she” and “her” many times when referring to Usagi. I’m not sure if the author forgot they wrote that, but that revelation was so unnecessary.
This is still mostly alright. I'm liking the characters a little more, but I'm not really loving any of them. It starts by showing that Goemon and Usagi as little kids, with Goemon being tested as a ninja by having to carry Usagi on his back until she can talk, so he gets used to carrying her for two years. And also that they're supposed to be getting married. Which we find out later that Goemon has refused to do, until he finds that someone else wants her. She enters in this race, and Hanzo shows up and helps her. And then Goemon makes a big scene by kissing her and stating that they're engaged, and he continues with this throughout the rest of the book, while she denies it. And then Hanzo leaves, Usagi runs after him, and then does something dumb and they end up falling down a cliff and staying on their own for the night, naked, in only a blanket. Nothing really happens, aside from some lines being exchanged... (Read the rest here: http://geekyreading.blogspot.com/2012... )
Usagi is such a goofball! She makes me laugh. Cute artwork. Hanzo or Goemon? Who is it going to be?
Notes on content: Some suggested/partial nudity (the bathing scenes are completely lost on me), I'd give it a PG-13 on some of the art. PG on the language for one or two suggestive comments; no cursing that I can recall.
The introduction of Goemon is promising, but it's clear almost immediately where this is going. Goemon has more depth to him than our main man, and so I can't find myself caring about the main characters love interests...
Still, I'll hang on to see where it's going.

I agree on the 4 stars that I initially gave the first time I read it because I kind of wished Ueda can give more diverse character designs on the pretty female characters. I mean Sara and Yuki look identical if you give Yuki dark hair.
