Heather Graham was born on March 15, 1953 and grew up in Dade County, Florida, and attended the University of South Florida at Tampa, majoring in theater arts and touring Europe and parts of Asia and Africa as part of her studies. Now, she had five children. Somehow, this prolific author manages to juggle it all - family, career, and marriage - while reaching a level of success to which few can aspire.
Take it all in all, a pretty standard historical romance.
You've got an enemy-to-lovers romance in the first half, in which both the hero and heroine are being mean to each other in order to resist the attraction between them.
Then, in the second half, after they've finally given in to their feelings of attraction, you have the "heroine gets kidnapped, hero goes to rescue her from all kinds of peril" plot.
Standard stuff, all in all. Not bad in any way, but there's nothing to make it stand out, either.
And he had liked the life in the saddle on the plains, dealing with the Indians, far better than he had liked to see what had become of the South.
This book is about Jamie, the youngest of the Slater brothers. Few years has passed since the last book. The war is over and Jamie prefered to wear the US uniform and enlist in the cavalry rather than witness what was happening to the South during the reconstruction.
He and his regiment are back from a mission when they fall upon the remains of an attack of a wagon. Tess Stuart is the only survivor and she insists that the attack is Indians staged by white men and that she knows the instigator.
Was he judging her? Trying to decide if she was crazy or if she was having female whimsies?
They take her to the fort and there Tess asks Jamie to escort her to her ranch and stay to help her defeat von Heusen.
Like in her other books on the subject I loved how Heather Graham handled the political matter (here Indians and Whites). Like in the second book there is a lot of action and unlike in the second book the heroine isn’t too stupid to live, also like in the second book I enjoyed Jamie/Tess relationship.
Smiles for him, and taunts for me! And still, Miss Stuart, we are irrevocably bound, aren’t we?
That war taught me a great deal. You can’t always wait to seize what you want. Life is too short, too quickly severed.
This book is a good end to a really good series but my fav remains The McKenzie - Old Florida Civil War series. I really can’t get enough of it *Le sigh*.
Tess Stuart Beautiful - light brown hair - violet eyes - young - fearless - strong - 24 years old
Jamie Slater Tall - handsome - grey eyes - a soldier - a gentleman - an excellent shooter
Honestly, I did not enjoy this as much as I did with the first 2 installments. It was a bit flat, with not much angst. I almost put down the book, but then decided, I just needed to give it another chance. Like I said, the chemistry between the main characters was not that palpable. The whole story felt rather monotonous. A bit tedious.
This is the last of the Slater brother trilogy and it was full of action. Tess Stuart needs to hire a gunslinger to help her fight an unscrupulous land-grabber in Wiltshire, Texas.
Jamie Slater gets involved when he saves Tess' life after an assault on her wagon train (all the men were killed, including Tess' uncle).
Read the books in order.
Slater Brothers of Virginia Trilogy: 1) DARK STRANGER (Cole), 2) RIDES A HERO (Malachi) and 3) APACHE SUMMER (Jamie).
Jamie Slater, the third Slater brother, is an ex-Confederate turned Indian fighter. On the plains of Texas, he comes up on a wagon train, everyone seemingly slaughtered. While searching one of the wagons, he finds Tess Stuart, beautiful and tramatized from what she's witnessed. With her uncle dead, Tess has no choice but to follow the calvary back to the fort. Upon witnessing Jamie's skill with a gun, she decides that she must to anything to hire him and bring him back to her ranch to stop an old enemy that's trying to destroy her. Jamie agrees upon the condition that she gives him half of her ranch. Seeing no other way, she agrees. What Jamie didn't count on was falling in love with the self-proclaimed old maid (she's 24). It's that love that distracts him one day and Tess is stolen by the enemy and taken to Mexicans and then sold to the Apache. Jamie will do anything to get her back, even if it means dying for her.
Irmãos Slater 03. Filha do Sol Heather Graham Pozzessere Irmãos Slater 03 Nova Cultura 1990

Poor Jamie got hi jacked. After fairly decent stories for Cole and Malachai it was disappointing to see the pitiful tale for Jamie. Not impressed. I found book 2 to be the best of the series.
