INVADER ZIM Hastings Exclusive!!! ZIM and his filthy evil ways have been gone for what feels like years. But Dib KNOWS the alien menace will rear his head again, and he won't leave the house, or his 900 security monitors, until it happens. And it WILL happen. Oh, it WILL.
ZIM IS BACK! This issue is actually a bit meta: Dib says that it feels like it has been years since he has seen Zim on the screen through which he has been trying to watch him. After all this time, Dib has become lethargic and is unable to remove himself from his chair. I love how he sings his own montage music when trying to get back in shape and how Gaz is all up for it as long as it means Dib will not stink anymore; the humor is still there. Even the dark humor: Zim, as we find out, is keeping Prisoner 777's children and can "erase" them whenever he wants, thus explaining why Prisoner 777, originally a one-off character on the show, does his bidding. Minimoose is still one of Zim's sidekicks, even distracting Dib by just uttering one line repeatedly and having Dib interpret it as he wants. And GIR still sounds very much like GIR. I can hear the character voices in my head. Now we have to wait SIX WEEKS for the next issue! But, at least we know that the story is being continued. A good aspect of my childhood has been reborn.

This was everything I needed right now in my life. I've missed the days of being tickled funny by Gir & Zim. This was PERFECT! It had everything I loved about the show and translated wonderfully in comic form. I didn't doubt that it would be this way... It is Jhonen Vasquez who wrote it. I'm more than excited to see this coming back in comic form and can't wait for the next installment (shaking fist at invisible time creature holding the next issue away from me). I couldn't ask for anything more... really. This made my month.
This is a comic adaptation of what used to be a kids tv show. I personally never watched the TV show but I really liked the colours of this when I flicked through so I thought I would pick this up to try it out.
The storyline of this book is okay, for me it's nothing overly original or enticing and it didn't really feel like something I was reminiscent over either. I enjoyed this in the sense that it was bright and fast paced, but honestly I just felt such a distinct lack of connection or mystery surrounding the characters or what might happen next and so I don't think this is a series I'll get much further with. I do own issue #2 so I'll try that out, but it just felt like a bombardment of colour and capital letters and not really something I was connected to or intrigued by... 2*s
I suppose this came first or was a storyboard but it’s just like the Florpus movie made after the show. I do still like the sassy computer, edgier humor (“badder” words or death threats), and Zim’s sinister faces, but I feel like I’m watching blended up reruns.
After all that bugging and bitching and poking and petition signing to bring Zim back after more than ten years. Also, with JV saying he would never bring it back and look what we have here, ZIM IS BACK! I'm so grateful he gave in... or was forced. I'm not sure which. But thank you JV!
Im ready for the next one ✨ 👽 🚀
Antes de leer el cómic vi la película, lo que fue un poquito tedioso, pero fuera de eso amo el humor de invasor Zim, su arte tan particular y le tengo mucho cariño a los personajes por lo que me encanta volver a seguir sus locuras.

This comic was pretty much setting up the second comic. It didn’t really make me feel like i had to get the next comic. There are few good jokes. Though this comic is very identical to the beginning of the movie. The comics show what would happen if Zim remembered his plan.
Note: I haven't seen all of the Invader Zim show. (I got turned away from watching them on TV here, because they were horrendously Dutch dubbed. *shivers*) But I know the gist and Zim was a favourite character for quite some time, even with me not watching the show. Also even if I didn't this comic starts off with a hyperactive kid telling us what has happened so far, who Zim is, who Dib is and several other things. I loved that introduction, it was silly, over-the-top and brilliant.
However, the rest of the comic falls short. I know I used to like the antics between Dib and Zim (well for most of the time), but for some reason I just don't like it now, at all. Maybe age? Maybe my kind of humour is different now? I just was bored for most of the time and annoyed the other part of the time. The whole Dib x Zim just is so utterly lame. Zim is overly hyperactive and Dib is just freaking annoying and should just be buried somewhere far far away from people. What a horrendous character. Obsessed, stalkerish and so much more. :| His sister is also not really great, she is acting a lot like a mother. A role that doesn't fit her at all.
The illustrations are the part that kept me going, they are colourful, fun and it looks like someone just plucked them from the tv and pasted them to make a book. Sometimes things like this don't work out, but I think the comic book format works perfect for Zim.
Would I recommend this comic? I am not sure, if you are a big fan, then sure.
I was absolutely thrilled the day I found out that the original creator of Invader Zim was back at creating Invader Zim. I've missed having Gir, Zim, and Dib in my life over the past few years, besides re-watching the show over and over to the point of being able to nearly quote it word for word.
The comic is amazing and nothing is held back. You can definitely tell that the author is passionate about Invader Zim and that he's ready to take on the challenge of bringing his world back to life, and I'm really excited that he's resurrected Invader Zim for a new generation to grow up with. Even more so that it still embodies the same elements that the show did years ago. Dib and Zim still have the same feud, Zim still wants to take over the world, and Gir is still the loveable, clueless robot that we all love to pieces.
The comic starts off virtually where the show ended and it does so in a manner that doesn't feel pushed or flawed in any manner. Which I was concerned of at first because going from a cartoon to a comic. But the introduction with a fan character to sum up what happened in the show to start it off was a brilliant idea to get people up to speed with what is going on in the world of Invader Zim.
I'm stoked to read the rest of the comics and keep up with this series, and am beyond excited to see Invader Zim back in the world.
When I heard that Invader Zim was coming back as a comic book, I got so excited. Invader Zim? Like, the same Invader Zim from my childhood? At first, I was worried that they wouldn't be able to do such an amazing cartoon justice with a comic book, and I was right. Although, it is still really good, it's not as good as the cartoon. But it does have the same comedic timing. My one complaint is that they focused too much on Dib. This was supposed to be Invader Zim's big return, and they didn't even introduce the titular character until halfway through the comic. Overall rating: 8.5 out of 10
I'm a big fan of the Invader Zim series in Nickelodeon. I even remember having Zim's evil laugh as my ring tone way way back. lol. When I heard it's going to be made into a movie, I decided to read the comics. . . . I LOVE IT!!*zim voice*
