Alice's adventures begin as she lies on a grassy bank one sunny afternoon. After following the White Rabbit down a rabbit hole she meets all kinds of strange and wonderful characters. She talks with the Cheshire Cat, swims with the Mouse, takes tea with the Mad Hatter and plays croquet with the Queen.
Lewis Carroll's original 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' was written over one hundred years ago. In this version the story if delightfully retold and beautifully illustrated for young readers.
When I was a young girl, Alice in Wonderland was probably my favourite modern fairy tale. I watched so many adaptions, from really old Disney cartoons to the modern Tim Burton adaption with my favourite actress Helena Bonham Carter, and I even participated in a play that was based on Alice in Wonderland. However, to this day, I have never read the actual book by Lewis Carrol. I only knew the plot from the movie adaptions and the theatre script, and was amazed to find out how much they all left out.
Alice in Wonderland is so, so much more than the Mad Hatter, the March Hare and the Cheshire Cat. That is what I found out, after all of these years, and I'm so glad I decided to read the book for elsewise I would've never known these grandious characters.
Now, especially in the Tim Burton Movie they added a lot of the sequel, Through the looking glass and what Alice found there, into the movie and left out lot of characters that might have been so minor, but they were so lovely in the actual tale!
I adored the pigeon that was looking for serpents and mistook Alice as one, the sad, sad Mock Turtle and the cute, sleepy little dormouse. I might also be slightly biased because I adooore pigeons and turtles, but really, they were great characters. And so was the duchess with her morals, that would have been something I would have certainly missed out on.
The writing style was OK I'd say. I mean I don't know whether it was good for the standards of that time, but I found it to be a little too descriptive, although there weren't too many unnecessary descriptions in the book. The dialogues and the characters of the animals were grandious though, and I chuckled every here and there.
Personally, I thought this was a great book, but nothing too special in writing. Furthermore, I am afraid that having seen so many adaptions has kind of killed my joy about the plot, because if I wouldn't have known about Alice in Wonderland before, I would have been able to enjoy this much, much more. Anyway. It was a solid three star book and I have absolutely nothing to complan about.
By the way, there is a second movie coming out, again starring brilliant Helena Bonham Carter and magnificent Johnny Depp. I so love these two, especially when they team up with Tim Burton. I can hardly wait!
It was every bit weird, mad as I thought. Classic tale as seen in so many movies. Liked this weird kid's story.
My dream of being a writer is realized and I am now a Goodreads Author. People who don't read generally ask me my reasons for reading. Simply put I just love reading and so to that end I have made it my motto to just Keep on Reading. I love to read everything except for Self Help books but even those once in a while. I read almost all the genres but YA, Fantasy, Biographies are the most. My favorite series is, of course, Harry Potter but then there are many more books that I just adore. I have bookcases filled with books that are waiting to be read so can't stay and spend more time in this review, so remember I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and then just Keep on Reading.
Curiouser and curiouser...Why does everyone seem to hate Alice?? Alice in Wonderland is a bizarre story, but what it gives is a sense of adventure and something I live by; "The impossible can be possible - you only have to imagine it." Alice has had such a strong influence on hundreds, if not thousands, of people who can relate to this bumbling, curious, imaginative little girl.
It's a classic; you can't just not read it. I think this was my fourth book that I ever read and it was gifted to me by my grandmother. Couldn't make it to the 3rd chapter without falling asleep - the struggle was real. However, as I grew older (I believe around 10), I fell in love with this book and kept re-reading mad hatter's parts. The story is so beautiful and so very quotable!
I don’t usually give classic books less than 5/5, but for this one I feel disappointed. Maybe because the voice of the audiobook was awful, and ruined the book for me :/ I might reread again someday

In Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, the story line is simply complex. Basically, a young girl named Alice falls into a rabbit hole. Alice travels through the rabbit hole to magical world known as Wonderland. Wonderland is full of unreal creatures. Alice encounters a white rabbit, mad hatter, talking flowers, a large caterpillar, the Cheshire Cat and much more. Alice also means the Queen of Hearts. The Queen of Hearts sends Alice with the Gryphon as her escort to meet the Mock Turtle. Alice shares her interesting experiences with the Mock Turtle and the Gryphon, they listen to the weirdness of her adventures. Alice insults the King of Hearts, and the Queen becomes furious with Alice and orders her beheading, but Alice grows to a huge size and knocks over the Queen’s army of playing cards. Alice suddenly wakes up, realizing it was only a dream. Through the plot events, we see the author’s message that everyone is different in their own way. We understand this theme through events such as Alice thinking that she was going insane from boredom, just before she entered Wonderland. An important quote from the book that reinforces the theme is “We're all mad here.” This is important because it shows that in Wonderland, everyone is crazy in their own way, and that it is okay to be different. This book was very interesting for me because I feel like Alice and I have the same mind. The slightest things bore us, but also the slightest things amuse us. This book showed me that there are places in the world where everyone will be accepted for themselves. Alice in Wonderland relates to me because I often have very vivid, elaborate dreams and imaginations. After reading the last page of Alice in Wonderland, the reader is left with the feeling that there is a place for you in this world. As humans, we should take the advice of the author which is be yourself. I believe this book is worth our time because it really puts things into a different perspective.
Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll made me thing about people's major insecurities and doubts in life, the author represents this trough Alice, the protagonist, that would represent ourselves and her adventures in wonderland that would be the life. Alice, when she first felt into the rabbit's hole, she found a little door where she wanted to pass and a magic bottle; if you drink it you'll grow bigger or smaller, she tried several times to get the correct size but she couldn't, so she get frustrated and sad, just like people in real life when they can't get what they want despite their efforts. "And when she had tired herself out with trying, the poor little thing sat down and cried". After all her tries to pass trough the door and get the perfect size drinking from the magic bottle, she just sat down and cried. farther in the book, Alice founds a giant caterpillar, smoking from a hooka, and this caterpillar asked Alice the question 'who are you? and Alice couldn't find the answer to this question because she couldn't realize if she was still herself or other person. Find our real identity is hard, sometimes you don't know yourself enough, like Alice in the book. "Who are you?' said the caterpillar...Alice replied, rather shyly, 'I-I hardly know sir, just at present- at least I know who I was when I get up this morning." Alice can't respond to the caterpillar question because she can't find her identity." This book represent peoples insecurities and doubts about life in a animated and distortionated way.
This book was super interesting to read. It was kind of harder to follow until you got into the rhythm of the writing. I can see how some people might think it promotes drug use only because of how much it is associated to getting high or tripping i suppose. It is a good read I think but I would recommend this to older students in high school. Alice goes into an alternate universe and discovers that it isn't her first time there and I think it is taking us through her mind set of coping with what is going on in her life. After the she returns it is like she had her eyes opened for the first time and makes life changes.

I read this book because I thought it was something else. Someone was telling me about a really interesting book about a girl who found a place in her dreams called wonderland and said it was really exciting and interesting. This one is kind of bland and plain, and the main character doesn't really have a personality. Unless they meant that the cartoon is the thing that's interesting, maybe. The book must be too deep for me, all of the lessons my friend was talking about seem to have went over my head. Or maybe this is a sequel to something I never read?
Alice in Wonderland was never one of my favorites, but I decided to read it for one of my book challenges since it wasn't very long. Alice kind of gets on my nerves. She questions everything and gets a little hateful. There really isn't much more I can say about it other than it wasn't my cup of tea.
I wish I read this earlier. I loved the story, even though it has no plot. The characters really kept the tale going and interesting. I know that Lewis Carroll was NOT on drugs when he wrote this but I did learn that this tale is a social commentary on England in the early 19th century. I'm going to read up on some criticism on that but overall I love the tale.
Alice in Wonderland is a lovely children's tale. But it's so charming that I believe anyone can read it. It's very different and strange but it's a fascinating world. Alice doesn't really speak like a child but she definitely acts like one which I think proves something very great. The whole story over all is very imaginative and 'wonderful'. 5/5
Alice wants to know what’s going on and who she is but she seems to be constantly changing and the things around her are as well. So Alice tries to find her way through wonderland Then she finds that wonderland isn’t as bad as she thought it was but as she starts realizing this she comes back to her own life thinking it was all just a dream.
It was wonderful reading this with my son. We laughed and wondered together, and we discussed the peculiarities of Wonderland at length. My son was delighted with the riddle, and we tried to figure it out together. An amazing experience.
