Before she was an officer aboard the "U.S.S. Enterprise.".. No one ever said Starfleet Academy would be easy, but Cadet Deanna Troi never expected it to be this hard, either. She's been taken prisoner by pirates on the "Borocco-Kai," and now she's weaponless and helpless.
Of course, its only a test: a holodeck exam all freshmen must pass. But for Deanna, the stakes are even higher than usual. She's opted to take the test early because it seemed like the only way to save her future at the Academy. Her telepathic abilities, natural aloofness, and an overbearing mother have made
I specialize in media creative writing: developing/writing online games and MMORPGs, books, comics, animation, and other products that tie into film and television shows, as well as the development and creation of new tie-in products. I've written everything from Nickelodeon’s RIDE novelizations and Disney's PIXIE HOLLOW MMO to interactive ebooks based on the Mooshka doll line and an original non-fiction text published by Heinemann entitled WRITING IS ACTING: HOW TO IMPROVE THE WRITER’S ONPAGE PERFORMANCE. I've also self-published—an original horror novel that involves the Peter Pan mythos entitled HOOKED (Publishers Weekly gave it a great review!).

I have always been Star Trek fan, particularly The Next Generation (TNG). I enjoy the Starfleet Academy series, and Deanna Troi is a favorite character. There have been so many Star Trek spin-off series, some of which have been rather disappointing. Starfleet Academy could actually have been a good idea for a spin-off TV series, going back in time to the adventures of each character,as young cadets.
This was a quick read, and pretty enjoyable,as Deanna Troi takes the disaster test to determine, whether she can stay on,at the academy. She also tries to break away from the suffocating influence of her mother.
I'm well aware that these are for children, but I enjoy literature for all different ages. This was well-written, interesting, and it provides a different view on a character (or two) that we already know and love, while also introducing us to some new species and characters. I love this little series, even if I'm not the intended audience.
This was way better than the other kids’ Trek book I just read. It dealt with great themes, like being independent for the first time and building an identity away from your parents. Mostly impressively, though, was the way it explored Troi and Lwaxana’s relationship. I think it might have even done a better job than TNG itself did in terms of depth. Actually impressed me.
what a book! a compelling story, narratively interesting, has Lwaxana Troi in it, Auburn is my hero, and it's fun on top of that. I really appreciate the balance of attention given to the Borocco-Kai simulation and Deanna's life at the academy.
Deanna is at the academy and is trying to get away from the influence of her mother. Only problem is, her mother is now a lecturer at the academy to be near her. This was a lot of fun, and showed Deanna taking the first steps to independence. And the illustrations are spot on. A good read.
