This book was stupid, that's my opinion of course. I guess the story itself could have been interesting but the way it was put together was horribly done. There were lots of inconsistencies and things that just made no sense. I felt like the author was kind of jumping around, so at times it was hard to follow what was going on. I noticed several grammatical/punctuation errors. I couldn't stand Scarlet. Her constantly comparing Pre-Dante to Post-Dante was really annoying. Although since there wasn't really much said about the characters in looks, I can't say I really cared about any of them. I kept reading the story to find more errors. I can say that I did have somewhat fun reading it though, at least it was fast paced. In the end, I'm not continuing with this series.
My questions/comments for this story:
So Scarlet was found wandering around covered in her blood and her friend Graces', not remembering anything. What state is this girl in to where Scarlet would be sent to the mental hospital because of that? For 6 months? And even though there was no proof of anything really, the police assumed she killed her friend and her friend had struggled back? Again, what state is this happening in? I would have to say some 'hole in the wall' kind of town.
When Scarlet arrives at her new house with her mom, her mom's bf and Skylar, men end up breaking in. Where in the world are the grown ups? Is the house so huge they can't hear anything going on? Like an ax breaking through a door? Then prior to her and Skylar driving away she makes mention of the note that the nurse had given to her mother. Why would she suddenly think of that? Yet Scarlet doesn't seem to find this strange. Or the fact that Skylar, whom Scarlet just met, suddenly wants to help her find out what happened to Grace....the same day Scarlet gets out of the hospital. Nope, nothing weird going on there.
Skylar/Dante. He's at the house when Scarlet 'gets home.' Right now his father is the cop that her mother is dating and lives with. Okay. So Scarlet knew Dante prior to the Grace situation and getting locked up. In that regard, she most likely knew his parents too. So how does he end up at the house, with a different father and her mother not recognizing him?
We end up finding out that most likely Scarlet's mom has powers too. Her mom's power is to make people forget. Hence Skylar saying that Graces' parents didn't remember her. YET!!!!! Scarlet's mother tells her the reason for the move was because she didn't like all the stares/gossiping from other people. That doesn't make sense. It was still never explained why her mother never visited her either.
When they're driving to get away from the bad men, Scarlet mentions that they were 'about to go by the hospital.' Suddenly they're driving up to the gate? Why would they be doing this?
Stupid question: When they stop to rest, Scarlet gets out of the car to find Skylar, 'swatting corn stalks out of my face the whole way.' Did Skylar plowed some corn stalks down and park on them? Hence there would be more all around them.
What is with the people that Scarlet dreams about? That first girl that stabbed her in the arm? Scarlet ends up changing her face back to how it originally looked, that being normal and suddenly everything's okey dokey.
Second rest area, they end up at the 'shore.' The next morning, after meeting Annabelle, Scarlet finds her 'walking along the shore.' Sorry but when I hear the word 'shore' I automatically think of somewhere near the ocean, am I wrong in saying this? Suddenly there's a man flying across the beach. First, what happened to the man? I wouldn't really say Annabelle's power was really explained there. Second, they are at a beach. But wait. 'We took our shoes off and walked over to the long wooden dock.' Now unless you have a part of the beach in your backyard, that including a dock for your boat...I don't think I've ever seen a dock at a regular beach...THAT...is low enough for you to put your feet in. One more thing. But wait again. They are in fact at a lake. Sorry I haven't done much traveling around, but those descriptions do not make me thing, specifically, of a lake.
How does Annabelle know so much about the Alliance? She was adopted (maybe) so her parents wouldn't naturally know of her powers. Yet, she knows where there locations are and knows there should be a clubhouse in the backyard holding prisoners. Yet when they get into the building, they don't try to save anyone. (Couldn't Skylar have tried? Or maybe they could have called the police?) And when Skylar 'moves' them away from the building, turns out Annabelle was left behind. No problems though because Scarlet can suddenly turn invisible, and she would be better off getting Annabelle, not Skylar who can magically move them to a different location. Nope, Scarlet's the best for this job because no one will see her, no one stops to think about the fact that Annabelle will still be seen. Stupid.
They are then heading to the house hidden in the woods, which Skylar/Dante of course knows about. How? No clue. Yet, they're walking through the woods and Scarlet doesn't see any house UNTIL Skylar/Dante moves A SINGLE branch out of the way. Pure magic there.
So Scarlet ends up dreaming that night and wakes up (maybe?) to find that Skylar/Dante isn't in bed anymore. She's then outside wondering around, sees a weirdo in the woods after her, then runs into Skylar/Dante who had been looking for her. That scene was very confusing. I wasn't sure if Scarlet was sleepwalking or what?
Annabelle ends up shooting a man while they're trying to peek into the house where Grace was last seen. Where did she get the gun?
"We need to find what Grace wanted us to find. That means poking around the house, leaving fingerprints, looking in the woods, leaving our footprints." Huh? While looking for clues, they'll intentionally leave evidence they were there?
When they break into the closed motel, what happened to Annabelle? She was with them when they left the clubhouse but suddenly is gone. And somehow ends up with Elizabeth.
We find out from Elizabeth that they shouldn't worry about the dead man that Annabelle killed, because he was serial killer. Of course, figures. Sounds a little too convenient for me.
After meeting Cooper they decide to find something belonging to Grace. Yes, going to Grace's house would make sense. Not! If her parents don't remember her, why would they have anything of hers still? Or the fact, that Elizabeth whose driving, doesn't know how to get to Grace's house, yet Scarlet sits in the very back. That's always the best place for giving directions.
Scarlet and Skylar/Dante had been talking about how he thought it best that he leave. "Is it because of Cooper?" Scarlet asks. Nope, "it's not because of him; it just took him being here to make me see." Um...isn't that the same thing? Who knows because they stop the conversation there.
Who plastered over Graces' bedroom door?
So Annabelle tries to kill herself. Where did she get the pills? And why does she sleep all night long? Yet in the morning be pale with blue lips, but wakes up then? And seems basically fine?
When they're about to go inside the mansion, Lilly mentions her duplication power. What's Elizabeth's? And now thinking about this, why didn't George go with them? He sends his family but stays at home in this kind of situation? And why would Dante have Elizabeth and Lilly hide on the side of the house while everyone else was going inside?
When they're inside, Connor and Annabelle get captured. So by the way the book reads it sounds like there are stairs leading down to where the people are and Scarlet and Skylar/Dante are up above looking down at them. Hence 'I looked down at the tables.' And that was when she Connor and Annabelle. Yet after she does the book trick, One of the bad men, turns and goes after Scarlet. 'The other came charging at me.' That makes it sound like they were on the same level now. And why didn't Scarlet try anything with him, like she did when she paralyzed the man upstairs? Instead she just stands there. 'The man hit me over and over again.' Why would he be doing this? If the books that she had fly off the shelf didn't hurt them, then why would he be acting so extreme towards her? Again they're on the same level because while she's getting the crap beaten out of her, she's admiring the room. haha And sees Elizabeth and Lilly looking in the window from outside.
How did Annabelle and Connor not get away while the man who should have been watching them, was fighting with Lilly? Suddenly Scarlets' able to get the bookcase to fall over (a little too prefect for me) and the guy holding Connor...with a knife to his throat...is dead...but Connor is fine. Of course! Oh and let's not forget about Skylar/Dante. What happened with him? There were only 2 bad guys, one with the Connor and Annabelle and the other with Lilly and Scarlet. So what was he doing? Browsing the books? Getting bored and looking for something good to read? Something better than this story maybe? haha Because he's suddenly just standing next to the fallen bookshelf. Apparently I was wrong because a third bad guy showed up and Skylar/Dante had to kill him out in the hall. Again...how is the library set up? Because their locations and all are aren't adding up to me.
Why was Grace prisoner for so long? 6 months? And how was she shackled to the wall, to where she couldn't reach the key on the ground had no problem getting herself unlocked? And why did the key shock Scarlet and Skylar/Dante? And not even 2 seconds after Grace being rescued, she's ready to go back for revenge? Seriously? Why if everyone is dead? And she's mad at Scarlet because Scarlet's questioning her?
At the end of this story, there's a part 2 preview. I couldn't help but see how it started. Well Dante and Scarlet are having a conversation. Basically about how her mother could make people forget, which we already learned in the first one. But then he talks to her about Skylar as if he was a completely different person which makes no sense at all. So I stopped.
