STEVE NILES is one of the writers responsible for bringing horror comics back to prominence, and was recently named by Fangoria magazine as one of it's "13 rising talents who promise to keep us terrified for the next 25 years."

Niles is currently working for the four top American comic publishers - Marvel, DC, Image and Dark Horse. He got his start in the industry when he formed his own publishing company called Arcane Comix, where he published, edited and adapted several comics and anthologies for Eclipse Comics. His adaptations include works by Clive Barker, Richard Matheson and Harlan Ellison.

Steve resides in Los Angeles in his bachelor pad with one cat. While there's no crawlspace, there is a questionable closet in one corner and no one is quite sure what is hidden in there...but we have an idea.

This is the first volume of the ongoing series with Steve Niles back as writer. Sam Kieth is doing the art, and while he's a polarizing artist, I have to say this is some of his better work. He's trying to keep it more sequential and less stylized, which works better for a horror comic.

Overall this is a good story with a shocking ending. Curious to see there things go next.

Collects issues 1-4 of the latest 30 days of night, with a cast of new characters and the return of Eben & Stella. The story looks good as the action shifts to Los Angeles and an FBI team investigating the emergence of the vampires, Alice Blood runs a website after information and soon enough she gets just what she's after. The artwork lets the story down a little as it doesn't do the macabre violence justice, thankfully the rest of the series looks good as a different artist takes the reins.

I have never known how far Steve Niles could stretch the original premise of 30 Days of Night, but the ongoing series proves it can be stretched pretty far. Alice Blood's warning by Stella drags her into the world of vampires but also fundamentally changes one of the original key characters. Sam Keith's art is welcome from the work of the original volume, but his slight whimsy does feel out of sorts with the level of violence in the comic.

Art not by Templesmith—tends to cartoony for me so not as powerful. Stakes seem lower too (har har) in the story.

Alice Blood is an FBI agent in an anti-vamp unit. She trolls vamps online to draw them out, trying to capture a live one for study.

A vamp civil war, offing the elders by a younger vamp couple, Jill & Paul.

Stella & Eben in AK, Stella travels to team up/help Alice.

Jill goes after Alice, Alice fights her then decapitates Stella accidentally. Wtf?!

Perhaps the art itself isnt the most interesting, but I really enjoyed the story. I liked the way they expanded this world and Alice's character is powerful. Plus, there are even political questions that arise and a bunch of obstacles for both counterparts. It has a pretty gripping ending by the way. Yeah, Barrow is a main character on this series but it is still a very enjoyable and easy read.

30 Days of Night is back with a new protagonist, an FBI agent out to prove vampires exist. Meanwhile, there's a new group of vampires trying to take over mankind. Sam Keith does the art, so it's of course weird. I kind of liked it though.

The idea behind the story was good, but it just didn't play out for me in a way that makes me want to continue beyond this book to find out what happens. Very disappointing...

Still a great concept, still horrible gutter language [showing a stilted, juvenile, limited vocabulary] and artwork ranging from brilliant to sloppy.

Set in LA

It was ok. Mostly in LA, some in Alaska. Decent storyline. Eben and Stella are back. Typical vampires gone wild.

Okay

The graphics were okay, not the best in my opinion. The story has a great twist to it involving the FBI. Decent read.

This series has run its course. The story is devolving as the ideas run out. There remains the constant of ugly artwork regardless of artist.

I always love a good comic and it's 30 DAYS OF NIGHT so how could this go wrong? It didn't but that doesn't mean I'm a super fan now either.

This is actually the first 30 DAYS story that I've read so I know I'm coming into it pretty late. I've seen the movie but I'm pretty sure it doesn't do the comic justice. So my ignorance aside I did like the story about the website host trying to find vampires and biting off more than she could chew, pun intended. And the vampires turning on vampires conspiracy going on. It was all very intriguing and it definitely got me interested in wanting to read more.

But I was kind of turned off by the art. I just felt it was substandard and didn't provide the story the additional oomph that I think far better artwork would have garnered. I didn't think there was much depth to the drawings and they ended up being mediocre compared to others that I've seen. Frankly I'd expect better in such a popular series. It could have been my on-screen reader. I did have some issues setting it to a decent-enough size to read the text well enough but it didn't appear to be affecting the images too much. I'm pretty sure the images were kind of off all on their own.

As a noob to the whole 30 DAYS OF NIGHT series I liked what I read in this volume. I was interested in the whole works before but I'm even more so now. Not thrilled with the art, like I said, but it wasn't enough to turn me off the work entirely. Just kind of blah in comparison to the rest of it. It's got it's gore, it's horror and for this uber-vampire fan (of the non-sparkly variety) it had the fangs. I absolutely appreciated that. A must-read for any true vampire fan that appreciates that vampires are rather ruthless and should probably be feared more than lusted after.

This is a short, high octane graphic novel based on the 30 Days Of Night series by Steve Niles.

The story involves a girl who runs a website asking people to contact her about their real-life encounters with vampires. And while the story was interesting, it only fills up approx. half of the 44 pages (the rest being a preview for another graphic novel). I enjoyed what I read, but it seemed like just as I was getting into the story, it was over.

I found this book underwhelming. I did not realize until I reached the end that I was not reading the very first book, but the first of a new series in the franchise. I do not recommend it to new readers, as little time was taken to establish the setting or rules of the universe, and in that absence the assumptions I made were quite bland. Perhaps the book would be better received by someone who already knew the world.

Another addition to the 30 Days of Night series. This volume introduces new characters to the scene. It is short for my liking but it's a good start. The gore and the fast pace storytelling is still there. I can't wait for the next installment.

A spin-off storyline, 'The Beginning of the End' expands the '30 Days of Night' storyline outside of Barrow, Alaska and introduces new characters into the mix. Overall the story is sorta 'meh' but I really enjoyed Sam Kieths artwork and lush use of color.

Surprisingly poor comic from what should be a good creative team.

30 Days of Night was originally a sharp surprise on the vampire genre, now I think it has lingered too long.

I’m not sure what I was expecting but I’m slightly disappointed. I’m not disappointed in the particular story per se but I was guessing that the story would be about the actual movie when in fact it takes place years after and it really doesn’t have anything to do with the movie. Sighhhhh
