Tetragrammaton Labyrinth, Volume 1

Rate this book

W hen darkness falls on the foggy streets of London, demons and monsters emerge to prey on human life. But demons aren’t the only ones prowling the streets. Two women stand as humanity’s defense against the darkness--a young gun-toting nun named Sister Meg and her mysterious, eternally youthful, scythe-wielding partner, Angela. Together, they have made it their life’s work to spend their nights hunting the vile demons that stalk mankind.

Tetragrammaton Labyrinth is supernatural horror series that contains mild yuri elements, lots of violence, and superb artwork.

The fight scenes aren't clear enough and I don't feel particularly drawn to the characters. There are some ecchi scenes, like when the two girl protagonists bathe together, and when the younger girl touches the older girl's boobs; the change in atmosphere sort of pulled me out of the story.

The story and setting itself aren't super original: I was especially reminded of the series Chrono Crusade, which also features a human nun and a demon sidekick who combat demons in Victorian England.
This volume also reminded me of Black Butler, Godchild and Hellsing, in a way, but that's more of a stretch on my part - it's more that they all share a similar sort of feel and setting to each other than that they have similar characters or stories.

So in summation: I've read multiple manga with similar themes and settings that I am more drawn to than this one, mostly because the fight scenes aren't drawn very clearly and because I don't super care about the protagonists. I also feel like I'm just not part of the intended (male) audience; I'm sure there are loads of people out there who love this series, though.

The art is only okay. My problem is with the story. The author must have something in mind as he or she draws and writes this manga. Unfortunately, not enough of that something finds its way onto the page.

What does make its way onto the page is that a 17-year old nun and a 7-year old girl are fighting demons with scythes, swords and whatever in old London.

I don't particularly like these doings being attributed to Christianity. Christianity has enough problems without getting help from the manga industry.

Fortunately, I only have one more volume.

The art in this manga is phenomenal. It's incredibly detailed, the monsters look great, the dismemberment looks better, and Meg and Angela are both adorable. I cannot wait to see where this story goes after volume one. 4/5

i'm scared...this book is full of horrible scenes, such as heads being cut off, yet i can't put it down... i have to just continue reading because it was really interesting. i really like angela- she's so cute- and i'm looking forward to the next volume.
