I found this book pretty useless. It contains a lot of commonplace hints how to organize your life better but doesn't offer many original ideas on how to implement them and help yourself in achieving results. I guess, most of us usually know WHAT our "time wasters" are and would rather need an advice HOW to change situation. The book style if old-fashioned and many illustrations (especially tables) are impossible to read because of the author's scribble. It seems to be written by a manager for other managers ignoring the day-to-day needs and specifics of anybody else. Abundance of slang and "simple language" is another feature of this book. I found David Allen's "Getting things done" a much more inspiring and useful.
Definitely a book for you if you want to get more done in a limited amount of time, if you're a manager, or if you're a procrastinator. The book is old, and the references to computers will make you laugh, but the principles still stand. His book has a lot of parallels with Allen's Getting Things Done, which only underscores the usefulness of the book.
The back has a nice listing of time wasters by category, with a list of causes for each and how to deal with it.
One of the best books that summarizes time management in a no nonsense way. GTD is even better, but I love the old-school stuff in here. It's easily applicable to emails etc anyway.
This book will help you identify, and deal with your time wasters - they're not all other people! Most useful for me is the "Ideal Day" concept which I've been using for many years.
Released in 1997, this book is a bit dated but will be useful for those who don't do everything electronically (if you do, get the 2009 fourth edition The Time Trap: The Classic Book on Time Management).
Some helpful tips on not wasting time and staying organized when it comes to completing tasks. But most of it is geared to a work environment or if you are the boss of a company.
Very helpful but tough to follow through Audible. It references charts and diagrams in the book. A PDF of the diagrams are provided but having the whole book would be better. I will get the book.
Maybe it is due to the fact that I have read other books on the subject but I thought this was terrible. Not sure how it achieved "best-selling" status or made it through so many editions.
Briefly paraphrased: “doing something by choosing a few details and ignoring a systematic understanding/approach will make you less efficient in the end.”
I loved that the entire novel was really a letter, in a way. There’s a mystery at the center so I can’t say too much more. But this YA book was short and sweet. I really liked it.

Amazing - all of the knowledge about time wasters have been known in 1971 (and even decades before, as substantiated by many references and citations way back into the 1950s and 1940s) --- and even the "treatments" have been the same way back then as prescribed by expensive consultancy firms and coaches today.
We have learned -- nothing! since then.
So, the real question is: Those who still don't see the obvious and what needs to be done about it, will they ever learn (think about the old-new recommendations of better meeting culture and meeting management)? And is everyone else doomed to work with these people who are - unfortunately - very often the line managers and/or decision makers?
This has been one of the most influential and useful books in my life. It changed my approach completely and for the better. There are chapters in this book that I feel would take me a year to learn and if I could master it, make me a better person and, oh yeah, earn me a promotion. I've read close to a dozen other highly-recommended books in this genre. This one is concise, clear and covers all the material. The one thing that is missing would be some exercises or a workbook. I recommend taking a class to fill in that gap.
Very hands-on approach on how to manage time. Caution: This book focuses on time management at work. Some solutions can also be applied to private life but to understand the time traps the book talks about it is essential to have experienced them at work. As a nice side-effect this book has taught me a good way to get promoted: Once you're good at certain tasks you're doing, formalize your approach to tackle them and then delegate them.
All in all, this book is very focused and with that focus it accomplishes what it promises: Better time management for all of us.
The first time I heard an earlier edition of this book mentioned was in one of Charles R Swindoll's books, so when I saw this new edition, I had to grab it and am glad I did.
Rather than simply being a collection of tips and strategies for better time management, it talks about how to change your habits and gives solutions to the top ten time management problems.
No matter how well you manage your time, you'll gain useful insights from this book. Buy it, read it, get more done.
2007 wrote: Time management for dummies. This book is dated but I have found out that it has been updated and repinted. Though the references are dated, the philosophies remain the same and have helped as of late.
This book, when paired with another Time Management book, works very well to go from an action plan to mitigating the risks associated with taking back your time.
As promised, this is a straight-ahead, no-nonsense assault on all the dumb things that keep us from being productive. Thankfully, all of the tools needed to right the ship are included.
The most important point I got out of this book was: The best way to manage time is to document it. It is an extremely simple point, and one that has had an extremely huge influence on my life.
