There are times when a book's worth cannot just be measured in terms of its story and characters. This is quite likely the very first book I ever read, during those most amazing summer vacations from childhood days. I had read comic and short stories before, but nothing what could be characterized as a book in its own right. What an amazing one it was, although back then, even a hundred odd pages had seemed like so much to read. To Mrs Jeeper's Secret Cave then, I am forever indebted to inspiring a love for lost treasures, adventures, mysteries, old maps, the wilderness, and ultimately to the most magical of human creations: books.
The collection of "The adventures of the Bailey School Kids" stories are among my all-time favorite children's books. Witty, mischievous and fun, these short and silly books continue to bring giggles to the young and old. Just as I have enjoyed them as a kid, my own children also love them today. I even catch myself re-reading them (alone) from time to time. What can I say? I guess I'll always be a BSK kid at heart.
I read this book when I was a kid and it was one of my favorites. This is one of pivotal books that got me really into reading. I remember this copy in particular came with a glow in the dark skeleton keychain that I thought was the most magical thing on this planet.
This one had all sorts of cool things in it. A lot of facts about caves, a legend, and mysterious caverns that have death in the name.
It makes me want to go exploring caves. Or maybe on a tour of one...after seeing the Descent I'm not really down for being in charge or going too far into a cave.
BUT,
Mrs. Jeepers is really pretty cool. I don't even care if she is a vampire, she still made sure they were all safe. Even when they all followed her into the secret part of the cave with all the bats. I'm just surprised Eddie didn't break anything, I really thought he was going to.
What is the book about? My book is about 4 students being looking for their teacher. Then they began to look for him at the doors. And they found a strange door, so they went in and found. A mysterious cave.
What's your opinion on the book? What did you like it? What did you not like? I like this book because it's about horror And I love horror
Did the book change you or helped you grow? How? Yes because I'm hardly afraid of big foot anymore
Who would you recommend this book to? Why? Those who like horror
the children are really caricatures of themselves in this book. overly exaggerated. but the science ave the education in this book is very good. lots of information about caves and natural formations.
An interesting story, but not a lot happens. Mrs. Jeepers takes the class on a field trip to Ruby Cave, and the kids are interested in discovering whether it has any clues about her own suspected vampire identity. The ending was a bit too abrupt, though.
3 stars because I remember not much of this. I read it when I was 9 or 10 years old and I know that it changed my life. For that I would give it 5 stars! This was the book that made me want to be a writer. I still remember the Stalactites and limestones and bats mentioned in this book! It was a very exciting read for me back then.
