This book wasn't nearly as good as the first. First and foremost, I had hoped the editing would have improved but it got worse. In fact, there is a spot where the wrong name was used accidentally and actually told us who the real culprit was halfway through the book. I was also turned off by the obvious attempt to replicate aspects from Harry Potter and Gossip Girl/Pretty Little Liars. With that said, I still enjoy the characters and I love that it is a quick read. I'll be reading the next book in the series with the hopes it is more similar to the first book than the second.

I love the story behind this book... The editing (or proof reading) for this books was very poorly done and there are lot of errors, so I wish these would have been fixed before publishing.

She's done it again!! What can I say ... Tonya Kappes has done it again! A Charming Cure is definitely a 'must read' especially if you have read “A Charming Crime.” (If you didn't ... what are you waiting on?) I laughed, I cried (the ending was very touching) I was literally on the edge of my seat in some parts! I don't know how she does it but Tonya has a way of really taking you into June's world and she makes you feel like you are really there. I love that because June leads a very interesting life and so do all of the other characters in the book. I couldn't wait for this second book to come out so I could see what was going on in the world of June Heal after moving to Whispering Falls and opening her shop "A Charming Cure" but now I am sad that it's over. I can't wait for the next book in the series so I can visit Whispering Falls again. I highly recommend A Charming Cure. It is entertaining the whole way though. You will not want to put it down.

June's all moved in and settled into her new life at A Charming Cure in Whispering Falls. She seems to have accepted her new "talents" and begins using them for the good of her customers. But now it's time for her to really hone her skills and Great Aunt Helena, the Dean at Hidden Hall, A Spiritual University is here to help

Great Aunt Helena! Wow, here's a surprise for June. She didn't even realize that she has any living relatives, and now she has to go to school!

It is at this point I became disappointed. The references to various other stories, both fictional and real, made this particular story a little less believable for me. Okay, so June only had to go to school for four days, but still, I can't help but wonder how the idea of a "hidden" school came to be in the first place. Hmmm...can anyone think of anything? Oh say, something that has been around for at least a decade. Something really popular...can anyone guess?

The storyline of Good-Siders vs. Dark-Siders in A Charming Cure could have been just slightly more exciting and original...starting with the names. Although Ms. Kappes did a fairly good job in hiding the secret of who the real "bad guy" was up until almost the very end.

The most disappointing and the thing that practically killed it for me was the reference to "Jeffery Dahmer". This was completely unnecessary and highly disturbing to use this in a book that could be read by a younger audience. I grew up and lived in the same town where this man committed his crimes and to use his name in a book is inappropriate, inexcusable and a disservice to the readers. The story did not need it and even if it did, I am sure that there were other fictional references you could have used.

Leaving that point aside, Ms. Kappes develops the cast of characters even further and introduces us to a few more which will become important in the next story. Although Tonya does a fairly decent job in her story writing, this particular one didn't do anything for me except annoy me with the lack of originality and finesse she showed in her first book. I hope the third one will be better.

Another fun book from Tonya Kappes, in this one June is settled into her new (old) shop dishing out healing potions cough sorry Homeopathic cures cough (after all everyone knows that witchcraft doesn't exist!), only to discover that she needs to go back to school! She can either go for a series of 4 day intensive courses or a year long course, having picked the former she leaves Sheriff Oscar in charge of the shop (having stocked up) and headed off with Madam Torres (her crystal ball) and her Fairy God Cat Mr Prince Charming, June's problems start on day 1 though, when a potion poisons another student (not one of June's it must be said), and she discovers there is a conflict between the Dark and Light, with the Dark wanting the ultimate spell so they can run everything.

Now June needs to save the student who drank the poison, sort out where the professor who made it is, figure out who is on her side and who isn't - oh and put everything back to rights in Whispering Falls, no stress there then!

This was my second time reading A Charming Cure. I loved it even more than I did the first time. I'm behind on this series so it was nice to refresh myself with everything. June must attend school since she's new to being a Spiritualist. What could go wrong? June has a lot on her plate in this installment!

This was my first Charming Cure book and I loved it- especially Mr. Prince Charming. The mystery was well developed and I didn't guess correctly until right before June figured it out. Up until that point I was as mystified as she was, but then I would never have figured out how June was going to not only save Eleanor but Faith, Raven and of course the town. A wonderful narrator brought the story to life.

This was a good read. June finds out that there is a spiritual school. Here she can learn to enhance her abilities. Due to her age she is only there for a short time. While here a person is poisoned. June then spends the book trying to figure out who did it and why. This was a good continuation of the series and I look forward to reading the rest.

This was a wonderful follow-up to "A Charming Crime." We got to catch up with June, who is settling down in Whispering Falls, and enjoying her brand-new store, A Charming Cure. But when a relative from the past shows up and tells June she must go to Hidden Hall A Spiritualist University, June is anything but thrilled. But she agrees to go for the four-day course. After all, "what could happen in just four days?" A lot! Suddenly June is faced with another mystery to solve as people starting getting sick and disappearing all around her. As she worked to solve the mysery, June was faced with her own magic growing, and learning to accept more and more aspects of the magical world. I especially loved reuniting with characters from the first book, like Oscar, Izzy and of course, Mr. Prince Charming, and meeting new ones. Oh, and I'm espeically proud to say there is still a Ding Dong or two left in the box. I can't wait for the third book!

June Heal is attending classes at Hidden Hall to learn more about her psychic abilities. While gone she leaves her shop in Oscar’s hands. Upon her arrival she learns there is a war being waged between the dark siders and the good siders by someone at the school. Can she discover who is behind everything before all magic as she knows it is gone.

This is a really fun series. June Heal and her familiar Prince Charming are a wonderful team. However when you add in Madame Torres, June’s crystal ball, you know things are going to get interesting. I am really enjoying the relationships that are developing. Besides a wonderful cast of characters and relationships, the mystery is well plaited with plenty of surprises.

I listened to the audiobook. The narrator is a great June Heal as well as the other characters. She really captures June’s personality. Overall a great listening experience.

All thoughts and opinions are my own, I have not been influenced by anyone.

Tonya Kappes has done it again! This is the second book in the series and was even more delightful then the first one. It's fun and fast paced. Chalked full of magic, mystery, surprise's, and fun character's you can't help but love! Before you know it your at the end of the book and wishing there was more to read. I have also have had the joy of becoming friends with the author herself through facebook. She has a fun street team that you should look into joining. You don't meet great authors like this everyday who take so much of their own time to reach out to each fan individually. If you are looking for a new series full of magic, look no further. Magical Cure Mystery Series is the real deal! Off to go start A Charming Potion (Magical Cures Mystery Series Short Story)! :)

Feel like I'm reading a series for younger generation

I truly think these books are geared toward teens & young adults. I've read other books by this author & truly enjoyed them, but this series is very different. I can hardly stand reading the cat's name, Mr. Prince Charming, over & over. Just call him Mr. or Prince or Charming, full name gets old. Too many repetitive words, often in the same paragraph. Too many references to ding dings, eat some real food. And the story does not flow. I often found myself thinking I missed something. I read the 1st book, thought the 2nd would be better, I was wrong & I am done. My intuition tells me these books will not get any better!

This is the second book in the Magical Cures series by Tonya Kappes. This book starts out just weeks after the ending of the first book. June Heal has come to grips with her psychic and spiritualist ability. She feels like she is actually making a difference in the life's of those who come to her shop, A Charming Cure, looking for a homeopathic cure for what ails them and living a quiet life. Unfortunately, things don't stay quiet for long. June's Aunt Helena, whom she has never met or even heard about before this day, shows up. Aunt Helena is the Dean at the Hidden Hall, the university that spiritualist go to for training. And now June must go, for her mandatory training.

Of course, nothing goes right and everything starts to go wrong almost as soon as June steps foot onto the campus. It isn't long before June is embroiled in the middle of a battle between Good-Siders and Dark-Siders. June's not sure exactly what is going on, but when June's mentor, Eloise is accused of harming a student and then goes missing, June will stop at nothing to find her and save the student. Even if that means being expelled from Hidden Hall and not being able to eventually have a place on the town council.

The point of view of this book is told exclusively from June. There were parts of this, especially at Hidden Hall, that reminded me strongly of Hogwarts, but at college level. June is growing in her psychic gifts, but most of her magic seems to be of the "winging it" variety. And we see very little ritual or training going on.

We do get to spend some time with all the very unique characters from Whispering Falls that we came to love in the first book. Though I do sometimes have a bit of a problem keeping them and their shops straight. This was a great follow up to the first and really works on expanding the world and letting the June's character grow. Still a solid 3 stars on Goodreads.

*UPDATE* after reading the 5th book i am back to loving it again! all of the things i mentioned im the bottom of this post has been redeemed! i will now go on to her splitsville

Sooooo there is so much I want to say and beware that SPOILERS shall have to pop up so I can give an accuarate review. When I first started this series I was in LOVE. The author has amazing creativity. I highly enjoyed the 1st 2 but the 3rd ruined it for me and so did the synopsis for 4 and 5! I feel that the story could have been developed much better. My first issue is the fact that the main character is thrown into an unknown world where hardly anything is explained. They just tell her what she needs to do and she does. Everytime dhe tries to get more info she is stonewalled....WHY???? Then they have the audacity to make her village president so early on in the series.....again WHY???? She obviously has none of the knowledge she needs. they say ita because of her father but shouldnt she develop as a character more and learn more about her spiritual gifts before giving her such responsibilty. It made no sense to make a woman who is new to this and new to the towm the village president. And Oscar...omg Tonye i love you but come on....he has to renounce his gifts AND lose his memore in order to help her??? what freaking sense does that make. that was so heartbreaking to me!! & how in the heck is he supposed to help her when he doesnt have all his memories. and to add insult to injury his memory loss makes him think that she actually abandoned their friendship when she moves. none of this makes sense...not to mention a native american killed over a freaking order of ding dongs!!!! wtf im so done with this. going to try another series by this author and hope its better because she really has good ideas!

June's going to school! Yeah, it's a surprise to her as well! Her Aunt Helena literally swoops into June's shop in Whispering Falls, Kentucky, declaring that June is to report to Hidden Hall University, leaving Oscar (who has NO knowledge of cures!) in charge of A Dose of Darla. Off she goes, with her ever-present cat Prince Charming.

At 25, June's older than most of the students but...hey, it's just four days, right? Just four days...There's the first clue that June's time at Hidden Hall is going to be a bumpy ride.

On the first day of potions class, June refuses to drink the potion made by Professor Sandalwood (June's mother's friend Eloise) because she knows it will taste nasty. Another student quickly volunteers and falls ill. Eloise is put on leave and the student is in the hospital and deathly ill. June's determined to help Eloise and the best way is to try to cure the student.

It turns out there are two sides of the spiritualist realm....the Good-Siders and the Dark-Siders. They co-exist fairly well, but one Dark-Sider isn't happy with the status quo. It's soon apparent that there's a "disturbance in the force" of the Spirtualist world.

There are similarities to Hogwarts, but at a "higher education" level and with the personalities of June's friends tossed in. I'm definitely going to continue reading the series...I like these people and want to know what happens next!

This is book two of Magical Cures Mystery series. June Heal, A Magical Cures shopkeeper, lives in Whispering Falls Kentucky. This is a small town where its residents have some special little magic in them. When her great aunt Helena the dean at Hidden Hall A Spiritualist University shows up Junes world us turned upside down. Joining the school she is immediately thrown into a mystery she must solve or something dark might take over the world with serious magical consequences.

I enjoyed the book from beginning to end. The characters are funny, magical and entertaining. The details and descriptions bring the town and the school to life specially all the magical characters. I like the level of suspense and mystery to the story it really keeps you captivated. There were parts that had me laughing especially the conversations between June and Madame Torres. With all the characters from the town and the way the book ends with Oscar it leaves it just right to keep going with more exciting and mysterious adventures with June. It was a light and easy read, although it did have some misprints and a few editing issues but overall a good book I'll be looking forward to the next book.

have to say, I do have a soft spot for this series and I'm only on book 2! What I like about it is the romance between June and Oscar burns in the background of the main plot line, adventure magic an mystery are the main factors then you remember that June and her Ding Dongs are being drawn to her oldest friend, the love story is not blinding the whole book but u get satisfaction at the end, sugary sweet satisfaction, once the mystery is solved, secrets are revealed and new relationships are forged and new characters are thrown into the mix ready for the next book! The book is fun light and a perfect read for any fan of female leads with spunk magic and a sugary obsession! I won't give spoilers because I never see the point in it, I want to know if the books good if it's going to make me laugh cry or if I'm going to get bored lose interest an give up! so to some up my experience of A Charming Cure it's fast paced, delightfully sweet and imaginative story that leaves you wondering more about your heroine and the characters that surround her. No doubt the next instalment will take us on a new mystery that will entertain us immensely

My interest in this series is quickly dwindling. Book 1 was cute, and I was intrigued by the colorful characters in Whispering Falls, Kentucky. But I don't know if I can continue. The dialogue is terrible. It reads like a high school creative writing project at times. The purple prose pops up at the most awkward times and completely pulls me out of the story. I could overlook this and just enjoy the plot, but I am discovering how much I dislike the main character, June. June is insecure--a character trait I absolutely hate. She eats ding dongs non-stop, which is strange, but more importantly, she just isn't very smart. If she would stop and think before acting she would avoid most of her troubles. She is ridiculously naive about her relationship with her best friend, Oscar. I can handle the, "will they or won't they" nonsense. Hey, they are both 25 years old. No need to rush into anything. But her inner dialogue makes me cringe, and I just don't like her.

I will give book 3 a final shot before throwing in the towel, but it isn't looking good for me continuing the series. Sorry, June, you may have to continue on without me.

The first two books in the series were cute, as was the Christmas story (6.5 in the time line). But I won't be reading any more of the series.
The blurbs on the other books note that in books 3-6 June will be suspect number one in every crime, which is my number one pet peeve in mystery book series.

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.

5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

I love the June Heal character and with the description of her tiny shop and the village I can almost believe it's real and somewhere I'd like to visit. In this, the second book of the Charming series, June along with her "pet" the cat, Mr. Prince Charming and her special crystal ball Madame Torres, is off to college to learn more about her powers. On her first day in class a fellow student is poisoned and lay near death, June with the help of Madame Torres and Mr. Prince Charming look not only for who is responsible but also try to come up with the correct counter-potion to save the student. A "Charming" who done it, kept me guessing!

I loved the first book! This series isn't like any other. It's different, it's sweet, it's charming as all get out. It's a quick read and so fun! So far in the book there is a mystery going on and June is trying to fix it. June tried to not leave fingerprints but what about anything else you touch. I was beginning to think about why can't magic be used to find Eloise but before I knew it the story was telling me. It made me laugh when June took Madame Torres away from "Rico Sauvé."
One of the things I love about this series is that it's funny. The characters and personalities of everyone in the community is fabulous. I love the new addition. And I loved the ending quote.

Meh...I liked the first one better than this one, and I had a few issues with the first one. I felt like the foreshadowing in this was so obvious that I couldn't believe she didn't figure it out earlier. The end felt really rushed, and I didn't feel like there was enough explanation about the whole "good-sider/dark-sider" issue. I just didn't love it. I almost gave it two stars, but I think I will probably still read the next book in the series. If it doesn't get better, that will be the last one, though.

I just loved this story! i love the whole magical story line to start with and i enjoyed this as much as the first book. I believe Ms.Kappes has great writing potential and that she could draw her stories out better with a few more details. But the whole thing in general is just a fun, easy, fast read and great for summertime! And i am again looking forward to reading the rest of this series and then checking out other books by this author. Thank you Ms Kappes for the lovely entertainment!

It was different

Books about witches and fantasies are not my favorite type of book so when I say it was a hard read, it was that for me. I felt the ending dragged a bit. This author has a variety of books written and what I like is that there is something for everyone.
